This will become a bigger Diorama with maintenance (emily) ans a beaching scene (Rufe). Both are HAsegawa kits with a lot of etched Parts for the Emily.
I have to say i never had such difficulties to join two Fuselage Halves than with the new Hasegawa Emily, though it is well engineered by Hasegawa, the weakpoint is that you have to cement with pressure downwards (joining the spares for the Wing assembly inside the fuselage correctly) and from the side.
Progress so far see thepictures

very nice work! I'm in - a flying boat and a floatplane in one build is not to be missed!
27. March 2018 at 20:23:19
Thank you Björn and Thomas, much appreciated... But i have to correct you Thomas..... 2 Flying boats.. Got my hands on the H8K1 Offering from Hasegawa for a very good price so i decided to expand the Dio for another Flying boat
Inspiration was a pic with a H8K1 in the water and another one already under maintenance ashore..

Mega Project!!! I spendet a lot of time with watching your progress.
2. April 2018 at 20:38:23
Thank you very much folks... @ Joerg yes indeed...alltogether around 280pcs. Ok in the end you will see about 30% but I know they are there
@Guy glad to read that from you!, @Miro Yes a year goes by so fast ...thank you for the patience.
And now i pray that everything stood in position when i release the tape.
4. April 2018 at 14:04:53
Well that's a hell of a job ! Although I tend to use or to scratch parts that you won't see when the model is finished , what you did it's amazing. Keep up!

The Clearparts of the Emily kit are a dream btw: shiny, thin and the fit is excellent. Cheers Daniel

Masking, masking man I've got to be a masking man.....
9. April 2018 at 22:31:54
10. April 2018 at 05:25:26
That is a LOT of mask
. However, let us remember how this would go in the age before pre-cuts masks...
. May I ask how you attached the canopy to the fuselage?
11. April 2018 at 11:25:47
11. April 2018 at 11:28:54
I have never used a pre-cut mask yet, but one like this one would certainly make think about it....
11. April 2018 at 11:37:30
@Spanjaard, yes nearly 140 single patches to fo fix... But except of the ones for the fusealge windows, they are included in the kit for the 1st release edition. It makes things definetely much easier with this flying greenhouses from Japan, France etc...
I wish i had those for the Renzan.
@Lukasz Thank you very much and welcome
@Alec Yes once upon a time when frames were mainly brushpainted
The Canopy fits that perfect i just needed 4 spots of Micro Lristal Klear (white glue) to fix it....
11. April 2018 at 18:41:41
140? holy..... yes, enough to get you insane
11. April 2018 at 21:13:05
Nice. Thanks for the info Daniel.
12. April 2018 at 13:22:26
Hi there, the mask from the kit weren't mainly of the correct fit, so i had to cut new ones of my own and now i am stisfied with the result.
It cost many time but now i am in the mantal state again to continue the detailwork
For this Emily will be the beached one i started with the "legs"
. Tonight i will practice some soldering of etched parts, because toglue the Maintenance platforms would be insane to do.
Best regards Daniel

@stefan yes but it is a slow start.. guess it will take 4-5 years to finish this project....
24. September 2018 at 10:51:28
Daniel, we will wait patiently as you write your progress in time
24. September 2018 at 18:00:21
Good luck with restart of this project. You know, Wilnsdorf is end of April, jeff Jas!
24. September 2018 at 19:25:16
Da-da-da- ba-ba-bam-bah , Pressure pushing down on me
No,no a WIP will do as long as there is any progress.. April is so near again
24. September 2018 at 19:32:32
Such a beautiful seaplane. Must be huge in 1:72 scale.
26. September 2018 at 15:13:22
Thank you Teehugger.. Yes ist is a big Lady when finished ca. 40x50cm. THe kit itself has 283 pcs. and with the PE and Resinparts..nearly 500
Meanwhile the other project is drying , i gave the Rufe its first colour coat... and i have to say after over 1 one year the masks were fitted. It is ok.
Not too much to rework on it

27. September 2018 at 18:04:09
That's real moddeling! great job! Only I think the cocpit fuselage under the canopy should be painted black. And the Instrument panels more Mitsubishi interior green than aotake.
But in endeffect, I like the both excellent planes. Looking forward to the finishing.
27. September 2018 at 20:49:58
Hey Miro, glad that you like it.. you are right... The Aotake is just the first coat.. It will become an Tyreblack finish. But the PAnels were in early A6M2 Aotake overall, especially the units aboard ships. Unluckily the filter of the CAmera makes the plane look white. But in reality its very lightendes Blueish grey.
And the plane is not ready at all. There is still a lot of washing and shading and lining to do..
Thanks Cuajete.. Yes it is the Hasegawa, simple but quite correct and overall good details.
27. September 2018 at 21:27:00
Thank for the info about cocpit painting Daniel. I have got my Rufe in my stash and the yours is for me great inspiration now.
28. September 2018 at 14:35:31
Woah, Gonna follow this, got 2 H8K's staring at me, now i can watch you build 1 first. Maybe i learn something.
28. September 2018 at 15:30:02
@Miro pleases me to read this. and for the colours.. do not mention it. Glad if i could help.
@Rick thank you for your very kind words. And as i see you are quite young enough to watch my building progress and then build your own

Thats gonna be a big base Daniel! Really want to see how you make the base for this
26. November 2018 at 15:47:00
Hi Rick ! Nevermind, it is not only for the Emily Dio base..
The base for this will be about 100 x 75cm!
Added an artistically valuable sketch, as example for the dio
26. November 2018 at 17:03:11
Some model railway bases are smaller
26. November 2018 at 17:54:34
Hi Frank, jap, if i get this finished til Wilnsdorf, you will have to built a smaller board for your gems
26. November 2018 at 17:59:56
Wow, Emily looks awesome
. I am looking forward for the maintenance platforms. Are you planing to use all in the Eduard's package? This platforms are really interesting for me.
26. November 2018 at 18:17:11
Hallo Daniel, I'm curious about the diorama and look forward to see it sometime in Wilnsdorf. Cheers Stefan
26. November 2018 at 21:21:42
@David thank you! Planned are all of them. The H8K1 will be shown in full maintenance state in the Dio.
@Stefan Iam also looking forward to to WIlnsdorf. But the next 2-3 times it will be a WIP Presentation i guess
27. November 2018 at 09:07:24
Daniel 100 X 75cm is still very big haha. Do you already know how you want to add the water? I Always think of that as the hardest part in a dio
27. November 2018 at 09:38:24
Hi Rick, yes still big and you mean what material I plan to use for it?
See 1st pic
27. November 2018 at 14:55:31
Yeah, that was what I meant! Just got me the same stuff a month ago. Didn't use it yet. Wondering how it will look. Heard great stuff about those AK products!
27. November 2018 at 16:11:09
27. November 2018 at 16:22:55
@Rick, i will report and we will see how it goes with these. I donot need tons of it because the sea will be quite shallow and even. For the spray i got the Vallejo snow foam. Will be my first big dio with water. Let's see if i can handle this and if the products keeps their promise
@thank you spanjaard always much appreciated
27. November 2018 at 18:36:06
You have a very interesting and ambitious project here. It will be fantastic to see progress and en results
28. November 2018 at 11:41:03
Now I could not wait any more and started my own Rufe now!
28. November 2018 at 15:34:03
Really big project! Very interesting!
28. November 2018 at 17:40:53
@Spaanjard that is exact the way i feel about it
@Miro selbst ist der Mann
@Flop_Se Big and time consuming yes
30. November 2018 at 15:18:25
Well, thats really an ambitious project my oh my.
110*68cm is the Base. I think i will make two halves for better Transportation. The Emily's Wings can be separated easily thanks to hasegawas well thought engineering one do not have to glue them.
Their fit is excellent. Room at home is not the problem.
17. December 2018 at 21:36:28
18. December 2018 at 06:21:57
Hallo Daniel, the idea for the base is very good. If space is not the problem, it may be better to build the base in one piece, because the cut does not look good. Cheers Stefan

Yap, I think the broken canopy serie (remember the Kobayashi Lightning? - Still not heard a thing from Airfix btw.) was a sign to get back to the voluptuous Lady(s). - and they really are
So i started fixing the wings and preparing the maintenance platforms so that sh can get her first bit of colour soon.

Engines, carts and many pe parts.. the electric-hydraulical Beaching gear (second-last Pic) contents about 21 Pe Parts
26. December 2018 at 18:51:56
Wow, this is a wonderful, ambitious and wonderfully implemented project. Of course, I am going to follow this!
26. December 2018 at 20:24:48
27. December 2018 at 12:37:30
Daniel, perfect work with all these photo etches. You can send it to Eduard as a perfect PR material
27. December 2018 at 13:07:41
so many tiny details, just wondering! I would need the whole year to finish this Project with the high quality.
27. December 2018 at 17:39:30
@Roland nice to have you her! Thank you for your kind words Mate
@Cuajete Thank you!
@David wow many thanks for your encouraging and very kind words.
I'll give the compliment further to eduard. Very good Pe Parts and research
@Miro Yap, i will need at leat more than two years
27. December 2018 at 23:13:49
Backboard-engines mounted and dryfitting, dryfitting and dryfitting for the starboard with the maintenance platform
28. December 2018 at 21:54:33
29. December 2018 at 03:49:23
Daniel, I'm following your project witj great interest and I'm really impressed with your progress. May I have a question. Have you used Eduards brassin engines on Emily? As I checked your last pictures it seems to me that you have standard engines, is it true?
29. December 2018 at 20:12:07
Hi David yes, i used the standard engines. In my Opinion the kits engines are good enough and the eduard offering is not that much better. I got them in my stash and will probably use it for a later project. The Guns and armament is a must have but the engines does not make the big difference in the end. Too many small parts to glue either. Ah i had them in the list of used items now i understand. Just removed it
Iam a rather lazy type of guy
29. December 2018 at 20:18:01
Daniel, thank you. I' ve got the same opinion. I have also one Emily in my stash with most of Eduards aftermarkets except the engines. I think there are also some parts for engines in exterior set.
29. December 2018 at 20:23:09
I agree with Daniel. Engines looks fantastic!
29. December 2018 at 20:23:49
But your work as I can see doesn't confirm that you are so lazy
. On the contrary your work goes very quickly.
29. December 2018 at 20:25:35
@DAvid, yes the cables are in the exterior set and thats enough. The Frame for the engine mounted to the Firewall can easily be made yourself if one like.
@Cuajete Yes they are absolutely crisp and well shaped by HAsegawa. If i would plan to show the engine under maintenance then the eduard parts could be useful in addition.
29. December 2018 at 20:28:48
QUickly is realtive as i started this in May 2017 with a 8-9 months break due to hot summers im Germany and professionell Duties
29. December 2018 at 20:31:56
Detail, details details...Will have to do nearly 40 of this window frames...all i need is a little patience...
Though you won't see them despite you are looking under the plane i know that they are there
30. December 2018 at 16:48:40
Damn, Daniel! That looks so arduous. You're a better man than me.
31. December 2018 at 01:08:54
31. December 2018 at 04:10:43
@Tom not better more endouring perhaps
@Clifford I really hope it will be woth the effort in the end
31. December 2018 at 12:24:21
Great progress so far Daniel! It seems Emily is a diorama himself with such a lot of lovely details!
31. December 2018 at 12:59:43
Thank you mate.. Yes the whole thing is really complex.. If i count the kit and PE, Resin Parts together it contents over 500pcs in the end
The Maintenance Platforms are in work. (4 PArts) with 2-5 bending points each... Crazy and really small but they look really nice in the end.
2. January at 22:04:40
A woman will laugh about a 500pcs puzzle
Great details, picture 74 shows a gun? Nice!
2. January at 22:32:59
Hi Frank, thank you sir and master of the Stringbags and the Pe implementation
Yes it is a 20mm Typ 99 Cannon of the waist Blisters
2. January at 22:50:08
Daniel, that platform is amazing, I'm looking forward to see it in place on the wing.
3. January at 05:42:51
Thank you guys
But i have to aadmit i really underestimated the time and patience needed.
It seems to me that nothing goes forward while doing all this itsy bitsy stuff
5. January at 21:03:34
you may have underestimated the patience needed... but you have patience to spare
5. January at 22:16:03
Looks amazing. I like when airplanes are on a diorama, it brings life to it. I'm excited about the finished model.
5. January at 22:42:09
Hi Daniel, you are on the right way. While we can enjoy, only you know when it's done
5. January at 22:49:56
Wingmounted Floats are almost ready..
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words guys
5. January at 23:38:04
Would it be appropriate to say that this is "sehr großes projekt"
6. January at 03:34:45
Piecemeal, a great job is being done, Daniel.
It would be possible to do a small tutorial when you do the water?
6. January at 19:18:26
I would like to encourage you further: such a beautiful work you are displaying!
6. January at 19:25:53
@ALec yes that would be on spot
@Cuajete THanky you sir. Yep that would be possible and i will link my Build review of this from Modellboard over here then
@Roland THank you Roland, think it already works. Much appreciated though
7. January at 20:05:13
Thank you, Daniel. That would be fantastic!
7. January at 20:08:06
No problem Cuajete..
May i introduce the most powerful and potential Aerial Torpedo off WWII.
The Type 91 Kai-II
If it had been that good in directional stability ist would have probably been the most potential
Torpedo in WWII.
8. January at 19:20:07
Thank you very much for your kind words Clifford
9. January at 12:42:42
Nice torpedoes! Is it included in the kit?
9. January at 13:12:28
Hi Cuajete.. Thank you! Yes they are without the Pe Parts of course
9. January at 15:41:15
Hi Guys, before i start with painting i will sand this structure on the undersurface down to minimum i think. It is much to prominent in my eyes. Hasegawa wanted to show the welded sheet metal i guess.
What do you think?
10. January at 19:04:30
May be a combination of sanding down, and some Extra Thin and then manipulate it with some metal to look like a welding seam? But that will be not easy in the smale scale.
10. January at 20:10:31
Hi Frank, just sanded it half way down and it a base coat of Gunze Dissolved Putty.. Then i sprayed a thin coat of Mr. Metal color Aluminium. Tomorrow I will polish the undersurface and seal it with Mr. Metal primer. If that looks ok and a bit Dull the wings and Engineparts both undersides will get the same treatment but instead of the Dissolved Putty, Black will be the base coat.
14. January at 18:42:52
Image 79 show a very good pose for this and probably any aircraft I think.
Including a 1:144 scale X-Wing, which I have on a tiny stand in front of me, in a similar pose.
16. January at 16:30:53
Those welded plates on the lower hull turned out great Daniel
16. January at 20:39:22
Thank you mates for your very kind and encouraging words!
Yap it is getting less abstract day by day
16. January at 23:02:23
Going better and better, that is easily sensationell!
18. January at 10:30:27
Allein die Perspektive ist schon sehr dominant Daniel
18. January at 19:26:35
The Emily is looking impressive!
19. January at 18:55:37
Thanky you for your kind words Miro, Bryn, Tom and Roland, much appreciated.
19. January at 20:38:53
@Rick Thank you but still some work to even the aluminium look and weathering etc. to do.
The squares under the belly need some minor polishing too before all can be sealed with a semi dull coat.
22. January at 16:23:14
Thanjk you very much Cliff and Stephan.. Basecoat and preshading started
6. February at 12:48:51
Looks like you spend much time into preshading!
6. February at 13:22:05
I like the idea of dirtying up the surface creating a subtle irregularity in the shading, I must try this myself sometime.
I had previously dismissed pre-shading airbrushing, but I think if being subtle enough, and being limited to creating an irregular shading, then I think it could look great if being careful not flooding the surface with the last layers of paint (which I guess would fully cover the surface effect, making it not visible).
6. February at 13:37:27
very nice preshading Daniel. it looks just perfect
@Treehugger, it can work really well, but you need to be as careful as i am sure Daniel will be
you can try with some old model to get the hold of it.
6. February at 13:41:21
Looking great, a beautiful beast!
6. February at 13:51:46
Coming along nice there. The pre-shading is going to pay off for sure. Those Japanese planes always show lots of wear since they operated in such tough environments.
6. February at 15:43:47
How many hours have you spend roughly?
6. February at 18:42:45
THanky you all Guys for your kind words , much appreciated...
@Tree It is like spanjaard said a matter of careful finishing the top coat..
It will take its time but in the end it should outcome well..
@spanjaard.. i will be as careful as a man can be
@Nathan Yes they were often very bleaches and dull, because of salty water, high humidity in the air and at leat heat and sun...
@FRank about 4-5 hours netto..
6. February at 20:53:23
Top work on the pre-shading/black basing Daniel. Looking forward to the final color coat
6. February at 21:39:32
Nice work, it is perfect study material how to paint such a nice kit.
7. February at 07:15:27
Thank you Moritz and David, i feel honored indeed by your nice and encouraging words.
I added mor coats of brownish green and blueish green very thin coats .
Last to simulate the faded Top coat and the from underneath through shining aotake coat.
@Moritz it is rather a Grey basing in my case. I somewaht do not like it to totally blacken my projects except of overall NMF.
Hope you can see it in the last 8 pictures.
7. February at 11:43:50
Fantastic pre-shading, Daniel!!
7. February at 12:22:25
Impressive indeed. And that's a LOT of surface area to cover
7. February at 13:25:44
Thank you ALec and Cuajete, much appreciated.
Last pics show what the way is and we get close to the finishing coat with Dark Kawanishi Green..
7. February at 14:39:49
Thank you Roberto! And thats why i like this technique and how HAsegawa has engineered the wings in this kit. You can easily work step by step and get closer to the outcome you like.
It is very controllable... Backboard-wing is nearly finished.. Only the fabric parts will be reworked and of course the yellow wing markings will follow.
7. February at 16:13:41
Gosh you do such an amazing job with these!
I'm just hoping I can fine a Finemolds 1/48 A7M Reppu at the model show on Sunday.
8. February at 17:13:06
Hallo Daniel, it come out more and more nicely
. Cheers Stefan
8. February at 19:25:16
I like the preshading as well. The outcome on the left wing is superb.
8. February at 20:16:56
Thank you all mates, that is really encouraging and satisfying to hear
Added some more pics with the paintwork started on the fuselage.
I had to interrupt because my airbrush started to stuck . But no need to rush things.
8. February at 21:06:37
Sehr schönes Farbspiel, gefällt mir sehr gut, inspirierend!
10. February at 15:05:30
Cool das es Dir gefällt Holger und ist auch echt easy... BTW: 3:0
10. February at 15:12:52
Excellent paintwork Daniel.
11. February at 19:31:57
Thank you James.. Since yesterday afternoon I am completely out of order..
Have not been that ill for years with Fever and whole body hurts etc..... Thanks to my wife
Anyway i managed to dull the coat of my Emily partly to get an even more worn effect and to even the contrast a bit.
Hope you like it
12. February at 17:23:05
I hope you get better soon, Daniel!
12. February at 18:32:17
Thanks to your wife? Lol, I hope it wasn't intentional! Just kidding mate, hope you recover quickly.
12. February at 18:46:46
. James if it was intentional she tried it first on herself
12. February at 19:11:25
Interresting colours-playing. Is it in this scale not too dark? But otherweise excellent work so far.
13. February at 08:21:28
Thank you spanjaard! Fever is gone
typical male says my wife! Monday to tuesday nearly dying and asking for mummy, and in no 48h later back to my playground????
@miro thank you mate! The last pictures are too dark and bad lightened. It is not that dark
13. February at 09:26:51
Glad you recovered so quickly!
13. February at 17:18:02
Thank you mates! I am back in business
@Jose Welcome and thank you for your nice words! Much appreciated
Masking worked as it seems
17. February at 19:46:56
Ohhh wow... you even have the crew in there... just amazing!
17. February at 19:47:39
PS: I am surprised how good the masks went off after nearly two years
17. February at 19:52:49
Geez man... leave some modelling for the rest of us!
19. February at 02:32:56
Wächst und gedeiht! Wird gut!! Braucht wohl sehr viel Farbe....
19. February at 12:21:08
Wow!! Thank you all so much for your encouraging and appreciative words Mates
The decals are a bit of a fight but if you do not want to paint the lining , you have to deal with it.
But in the future i will always spray the yellow wingmarks
19. February at 17:38:16
She is coming along fine...
19. February at 18:28:55
The painting of the fuselages is well done, not easy in this large size.
22. February at 05:36:21
It just keeps getting better and better each time I view the updates. Looking fabulous mate.
22. February at 19:30:02
I agree with James. Fantastic result!
22. February at 20:11:05
Thank you JAmes and Cuajete
I grow a few inches now
22. February at 23:12:32
Last bits for my Emily arrived today from Japan
Weekend is saved
23. February at 11:32:54
Congratulations, have a nice time and share the results of your perfect and inspiring work. And what suprise was in the packet?
23. February at 12:05:26
Some more PE parts or Resin parts I guess? It looks absolutely awesome Daniel! Perhaps a competition winner?
23. February at 16:17:18
Hi David and Rick,
@Dave Thank you very much for your encouraging words and yes i will share but at the moment iam wrestling with the kit decals. Quite a lot and not to easy to bring on.. Next time i will airbrush the markings. The packet contains the Hasegawa etching part set for the exterior details that Eduard did not mention in their sets.
@Rick, Thank you very much mate.. well i do not think this will be good enough for a competition winner, i also do not plan to take part in one
But i'll try my best and it makes me happy to write such nice words
And pe Parts is right yes these:
Type 2 Large Flying Boat Det..Parts (Hasegawa 72167, 1:72)
23. February at 19:59:14
Finish line comes closer. A whole weekend for the F++ing Decals
24. February at 22:18:08
I am in awe... it really looks so amazing I have to snappy comment to share.
25. February at 02:28:06
Thank you very much Guys
Maintenance Platform added
25. February at 10:42:46
Are they steps leading into the wing ?
25. February at 20:28:54
These were integrated and retractable maintenance platforms
Sunderlands got similar ones to get easier to the engines
25. February at 20:50:19
Hm, seems a little bit to big for 1/72 the figure
26. February at 16:17:47
Ok the figures fit but hey looks like Aliens took control here
27. February at 19:20:40
Nearly every parts are added now.. SO i can start with the partial weatherng and postshading
28. February at 15:53:27
Already looks totally complete to me Daniel, beautiful
28. February at 17:34:55
Thank you Guy and STephan.. Very much appreciated
So before we go for the last steps with the emily it is time to care about the service and Maintenance items.
28. February at 18:54:55
Amazing, is this the part where you bake the giant cookie? That's always my favourite part!
28. February at 22:48:45
Wow, the result is really impresive. It looks like real plane and in this scale it is unbelievable
. And will be there another Emily? I remember your dio schema and I suppose there were two
1. March at 07:22:31
Wow... Looks great, Daniel!
What brand is the truck and the items it transports?
1. March at 11:58:42
Thank you all so much Mates for your kind words
@David Thanky ou mate - the second Emily is cancelled due to space issues
@Cuajete the items are from Black dog and are originally made for a Chevrolet C15. the truck is a Kitbash and should look like a Nissan type 94 truck. The basic kit is the Fiat 634 of IBG.
@Greg no cookie this time... more like a big sheet cake
1. March at 14:48:44
Trying to sculpt a Tractor out of a Resin Brick.. Hmpf!
1. March at 14:49:23
Hard to believe it's one piece. Looking great, hats off, you are also a sculpturer
1. March at 15:53:22
Hi David, of course it is not in one piece but the form and moulding even of Resine is rather clumsy.
A lot of holes bubbles etc.. but japanese equipment is especially in 72 more than seldom to find.
1. March at 17:23:57
Added the maintenance ladders provisionally...They were in fact semi-gloss Black
1. March at 17:24:38
I just love the ambition of this project! And your execution is spotless, can't wait to see the finished result!
2. March at 06:16:32
Thank you guys for your very kind and encouraging words
The truck got some preshading and khaki colour
3. March at 19:54:37
@Bob thank you so much btw for the very nice words.
@Olivier QUesions ?
@Björn Thank you and the emily is almost finished. The project itself will still need some more time..or even more time
3. March at 20:35:49
Glad you like the outcome so far.
Bread, Fruits and Vegetables- Bread, Fruits and Vegetables...
4. March at 09:40:21
No question, Daniel. Ummm is the sound I make when I eat very good chocolate.
4. March at 12:30:50
I hope that the Teppichmonster do like to eat mudguards!
4. March at 14:57:50
Been following the build progress but haven't been able commenting lately. Absolutely epic work here, Daniel! While I've not been able to do much building myself recently I love seeing all the amazing work you and others here are doing. Truly humbling.
4. March at 16:38:15
Thank you very much for your nice and your appreciation
Hope to see more progress of your works too. I love Classical Cars.
4. March at 16:44:26
@Frank, got no Carpets in my man cave.. I have no idea where the mudguard went after brushing the colour o the model. The lift headlight also disappeared
4. March at 16:45:41
Mmhh don't know why I missed this?! Great work so far Daniel. I guess you have a way to go, so I'll take a look to any more progress.
4. March at 20:21:45
Fantastic, Daniel! It will be difficult the long wait until the finished complete dio.
4. March at 20:39:33
A beautiful airplane and lovely detailing.
4. March at 21:01:01
Fantastic job Daniel, very sad that your not in Lingen this year. Would love to see the lady live.
5. March at 07:41:09
Added some dirt and dust pigments and a light washing to the truck. Really hope i will find the missing mudguard soon
5. March at 22:06:13
@Christian Thank you and yes it is still a long way to go
@Cuajete thank you mate for your very kind words. It is hard for me too but with every finished or nearly finished part of the projects, finish line comes in sight and the whole thing take its shape.
@Treehugger Thank you and yes it is really a lovely design for such a big bird.
@Sascha. Much appreciated thank you mate.. Yes Lingen i always missed for some reason. But next year it is a must whatever will happen
5. March at 22:24:23
You should bring this beauty to Veldhoven!
7. March at 07:37:31
That's a great looking truck, and I especially like the cargo and tarp etc in the back. Hope the front guard turns up.
7. March at 19:32:44
I'm still waiting for the giant cookie baking... or does that only happen around the holidays, Daniel?
7. March at 23:05:18
@spaanjard..quality shown there is too good for my works
@James THanks mate..yes have to find this f.ng thing
@Kim welcome and thank you very much
@Greg, before baking the cake i'll have to gather and prepare all the ingredients for the topping
But i doesn't take much longer till baking starts.
8. March at 11:06:41
Played a little around with the figures and peripherie .. felt like a child again
8. March at 11:08:18
Wim van der Luijt
Currently reading "Days of Infamy" in which Japan has invaded Hawaii after the attack on Pearl Harbour. The H8K is mentioned a lot in the story and then I remembered that somebody was building one of those beasts on scalemates........very nice work so far!
8. March at 15:18:57
Daniel, this beauty will have every right to be there!
you are too critic with yourself!
(we all are
9. March at 12:30:59
Very nice work so far. The paintjob on your Emily is really a top job.
Your composition on the dio works but it would be even better in my eyes if you place the Emily not right angled to the edges of your base. Maybe you can give it a try.
9. March at 16:07:00
What a huge diorama
You should request the stage at the front of the hall in Wilnsdorf for Emily alone
9. March at 17:41:45
whoo Thank you so much Mates for your big amount of kind and nice words !!
@Wim is this a novel? Japan never invaded HAwaii
But the H8K was a Big Player in the japanese Pacific warfare. In my opinion it was their best and most succesful desig beside the Zero. Thanky mate!
@Miro Danke Dir
Die EMily für sich genommen ist schon sehr beeindruckend.
@Stephan I really hope so
Thank you for your encouragement!
@Spanjaard Thank you so much Sir. Yes because we know the little issues in every build
@Moritz Thank you mate
The paintjob result is really not bad and i am really happy with the outcome.
Thanks for the hint with the placement
yap with a pacific Background on the curtains
But a table should do..I will cut the Base a little bit. Round the edges and make a triangle at onne edge to give it a not to square look..
10. March at 12:55:31
My Interpretation of "breakfast on a skyscraper"
10. March at 12:57:37
I thought so! Lovely figures but I think a bit to soft plastic....
10. March at 17:07:24
Yap, soft like rubber, a real treat to clean and you have to paint them very carefully and even when you seal them touching after paiting is risky, to peel of the paint again. But they are the only game in town, despite of Hasegawas Figures coming with the Trucks in 72
10. March at 18:03:43
Wim van der Luijt
Days of Infamy is alternate history, I know the invasion never took place
10. March at 18:31:09
I fully agree with you! Or pay some more money for the resin figures there are on the market.
10. March at 18:32:18
or make your own copies in resin of the plastic ones
not that i have done it myself....yet but it is an idea!
10. March at 20:43:28
I've done that with 1/144 figures. it's not that easy... at least not to get ones with all their arms and legs.
10. March at 22:26:50
Looks so fantastic Daniel, so excited to the final result!
11. March at 05:10:26
Hi How doy ou like the mechanic guys... I am not that skillfully with painting figures...
Too much wash or dirt on it? sealing Matt coat is to follow of course
12. March at 23:11:21
Hi Guys, really what do you think honestly about the figures? should i try to paint eyes etc. or is it ok this way?
13. March at 09:00:28
It looks okay to me and, even though this is just advice I read somewhere else, I heard that painting the eyes is usually a bad idea. Basically, your eyes will fill in the blank if they're not there... but you can't unsee giant googley eyes and it'll make them look odd.
13. March at 09:20:12
Thank you Greg
That was also my intention. I saw several tries of others which did not convinced me and I have never painted the eyes before. With natural light outside they also look ok to me now.
13. March at 09:24:26
Figures look good. It`s a wise decision not to paint eyes; very often they look oversized and the guy looks scared and scary spoiling an otherwise good build.
13. March at 09:41:00
I always think of it this way. If you were standing at a distance from someone who appeared to be 1:72 in size, would you see their eyes? I think your figures look just fine.
13. March at 11:27:23
First thank you all very much for your hints and answers
@Rick, the Resin figures are much too expensive and not much better. And you have to clean and sand them widely, and that is not the best for my health
@SPanjaard never did that before and Resin is not my favorite stuff to work with
@Neuling thanks and yes they all look out of proportion .
@Nathan good Point
@Stefan cool book thank you
Just 6 weeks left to WD btw. Time is running out
13. March at 12:41:56
Mechanic added to the Maintenance Platform.. Though the size ( of 165cm in real) seems plausible to me, it looks like a mismatch somehow. It would have been difficult to work in this narrow gap
13. March at 15:02:25
seems plausible to me... think it is meant for basic maintenance, so difficult but not impossible is admitted
13. March at 15:58:38
I think it looks good, Daniel
13. March at 18:07:38
not the most comfortable place to work.... but think of a tail gunner of B-17
13. March at 22:33:00
Thank you mates
@ Bart and Spanjaard yap And the japanese weren't that sophisticated anyway i guess.
Did some more posing and positioning of the ground crews and maintenance
13. March at 23:48:56
Daniel, just amazing. I'd like to be that man on the maintenance platform
14. March at 07:52:04
But I'm not sure the plane will be able to fly anymore
. All the figures are very nice and real.
14. March at 07:53:09
Daniel, what a joy to see your diorama grow - every day a worth seeing addition!
14. March at 08:10:17
Looking great Daniel, already has come to life
14. March at 08:51:10
The whole set looks very good. And there is still much more in the whole dio!
14. March at 11:26:15
Nice job painting the ground crew
14. March at 17:10:05
Thank you all guys for your nice and warm words, much appreciated really
Now the modified Starter Truck is ready for Duty
15. March at 10:21:29
May i introduce to you: The japanese Hulk
He looks like he could catapultstart the Emily by hand
15. March at 21:43:06
He's praising you for the amazing job you are doing!
15. March at 22:31:53
Thank you Mirko and Tom! Your nice comments are most welcome
STarted to scratchbuild a Pulley for the upper wing to pull up the Torpedoes and Bombs under the wing.
17. March at 11:30:16
Fantastic Daniel, scratch rocks
17. March at 12:14:18
Very clever this scratch construction !
17. March at 12:22:25
Hi Olli, Yep just using and improving the starter truck parts
@Sascha, thanks mate...
17. March at 12:24:29
Hey Guys, do you think this would come out nice with the improvised Pulley..?
17. March at 23:32:30
Hi Bob and Greg ! Thank you mates!Of course this is not the final version of it but happy you like it already
Tells me iam on the right way
17. March at 23:59:05
Those figures are so nice having with the model. It really makes the notion of scale so much more interesting with the human scale showing.
That truck also add to that effect.
18. March at 13:15:11
@treehugger thank you! Yes figures and peripherie always bring some life and perspective ????
@ Holger thank you very much !
19. March at 11:49:00
And your talent is puzzling us all.
19. March at 12:16:35
even on top of paper towel is simply incredible.... on top of a dio will be .... do not have even words any more.
20. March at 13:48:58
Awesome indeed. I am loopy from all this myself...
20. March at 15:13:20
And a motorbike added too
Picture 124 looks like a Harley frame
20. March at 16:25:47
Great attention to detail!
The figures really make it come alive!
I was also thinking bike-frame when I saw pic 124. Must be the biker in me that wants to get rolling again.
20. March at 17:02:45
Very nice scratch pulley, Daniel. Maybe you should consider making a motorbike from scratch too
20. March at 20:30:19
Cheers Mates, and thank you for all your nice and encouraging comments..
@Frank as Cuajete and Björn also assumed - this comes next.... but as a single project.. do not want to overload the scene
20. March at 22:36:06
By the way. Have no odea and no sources what colors the japanese equipment would have had. So i just choose it freeminded.
Do not want to loose to much with such questions.
Yot think that stuff will do? I am quite satisfied with the outcome.
20. March at 22:38:14
Would you consider producing such things for other members ?
20. March at 22:45:00
Would really such a huge flying boat be used to launch torpedoes ? Does not seem very practical to me...
22. March at 08:46:11
@Olivier Bike Frames? No i would not consider it, though it makes me proud that there would be demand for it
and yes they did use Torpedoes and they were succesful with it
22. March at 14:54:47
@Tom, Clifford and David, Thank you very much for your warm and nice words..
22. March at 14:55:52
Just wow Daniel, wonderful progress!
22. March at 18:38:21
Thank you Erik and Sascha.. But now it is really getting urgent with the base
22. March at 21:08:38
Last set of pics with the final set up before doing the base outdoors. Sadly the light wasn't that good as i thought..too cloudy
23. March at 12:10:09
So excited to see that base, pics please
23. March at 13:46:27
Black & white makes it look like archive. Good idea !
23. March at 18:17:38
Thank you stephan, Sascha and Olly! Pictures of the base will follow soon
24. March at 21:14:03
Not only is this still an awesome build, it gets an award for the longest running post too!
24. March at 22:28:53
I know! I don't know how people manage the patience to do this...
25. March at 07:18:39
@Nathan, thanks mate
Getting slowly a bad conscience, cause it takes so long
@Katya do not know how old you are but i think patience increases with getting older and experience..
That does not mean that i am a patient person in general
25. March at 17:13:23
I have to travel to Scotland for a few days, so this is the actual state..
29. March at 22:46:47
The whisky cave needs resupply ?
30. March at 08:14:24
Erik De Smet
Getting better at each step, will be an impressive dio
30. March at 13:04:39
Thank you Christian, Erik and Miro for your warm and nice comments
@ Olly yap 2 edition malts
5. April at 23:16:19
Thank you very much Roberto and Clifford
As the Base is developing some more neat stuff and equipment bashed together for the maintenance crew
18. April at 22:27:04
Nice idea Daniel to put that figure on that ladder with some weight to the other side
19. April at 06:56:14
Hi Mates! Do you think this chains would fit?
21. April at 20:09:00
Maybe just very slightly over scale, but it's another small detail that's going to add to the overall project mate. I like them.
21. April at 20:41:37
They look good to me. That is going to be one beautiful dio when you get it finished.
21. April at 22:07:37
THank you guys the warm words are very welcome
Chains now drying after burnishing....
@James in reality they would be less than 4m high.. but the width is somewhat oversized thats true
22. April at 11:56:10
I think James meant the size of the chains. But I could be wrong.
22. April at 12:56:35
I didn't know you were... into that sort of thing...
22. April at 14:13:15
You are still working on this? It is truly amazing... and to think for me spending 2 weeks on a model seems like an awfully long time...
15. June at 18:38:30
Great stuff really, overal finish just top & so many details to look at.
+ real respect for the dude on pic 141 doing his morning workout with the long lance
16. June at 05:46:55
This is a work of art and love, a master piece in every way
16. June at 07:33:34
@katya Thank you and yes im still working on it
@clifford and Slavo thank you mates-much appreciated
@spanjaard nice and love is in nearly every part of it
20. June at 21:49:57
man, image 141, that one helluva strong japanese guy....
26. September at 12:19:06
Such a fun build to look at with the figures all around.
