And I'm going to follow yours ... haha🙂! I intend to display the canopy open, flaps down, remove before flight tags and missile head protectors...mine will be an interceptor version.
2 June 2019, 20:28
Maciej Bellos
Following this one also!
2 June 2019, 20:38
Jos Jansen
Haha...welcome on board Maciej...two Eagles for the price of one 👍

Jos Jansen
Pic 7: "I have doubts about the paint, Gunze or Ammo from Mig ...?"
7 June 2019, 19:36
Maciej Bellos
I'd say Gunze. They spray pretty good. The gunze light ghost grey is less blueish than say Humbrol 127, which was my preferred cup of tea. So there should be some contrast between the light and the dark ghost greys.
7 June 2019, 22:06
Daniel
I think I would chose 203 as is & 307 with some drops of White...really like your choice of markings, I built one of those wolfhounds with the ancient monogram kit some years ago, when I re-started with modelling
9 June 2019, 22:27
Jos Jansen
The first phase of the primer is ready, lightly sanding with a Tamiya 3000 sanding sponge sheet...
16 June 2019, 16:08
Kees Kleijwegt
Looking good with the primer on Jos! 👍
16 June 2019, 16:22
Jos Jansen
Finished sanding, tomorrow the pre-shading ...!
20 June 2019, 21:16
Donald Dickson II
Ah, another of these! I will say again, you can not go wrong with the Model Masters colors. IMO they are spot on.
20 June 2019, 23:14
Stephan Ryll
Very nice progress on that bird 👍
21 June 2019, 04:43
Jos Jansen
Thx guys for all your comments, highly appreciated!

I add some new progress pics; pre-shading / gloss black base for the metal color on the fuselage and open exhaust nozzles / creating a clear canopy by immersing it in the future...
21 June 2019, 22:35
Jos Jansen
She is ready for the final layers...!
22 June 2019, 07:05
Slavo Hazucha
Promising looking pre-shading! Seems the journey is going in the right direction, happy to follow 🙂
22 June 2019, 13:30
Jos Jansen
Thx....hop on Slavo! 👍

I am completely convinced of the quality of Alclad, the appearance of the metal color comes out perfectly with the Gloss Black Base from Alclad. After I applied the pre-shadin I applied accent spots with satin white from Ammo, Mig J. The final layers of paint I also choose Ammo from Mig, because I feel that these are the closest to the original colors that were used on the F-15 in the 1980s. I'm not in a hurry so I build in a slow pace with different phases.
23 June 2019, 09:31
Kees Kleijwegt
Very nice progress mate! 👍
23 June 2019, 15:48
Jos Jansen
Thx Kees, Iam taking a break these upcoming days...hopefully the first layer of the final paint these weekend!
24 June 2019, 18:14
Jos Jansen
Finally started with the final colors of the seventies and eighties F15 color scheme ...!
7 July 2019, 06:37
Konrad -
Very nice progress Jos 👍!
It turns out really nice!
7 July 2019, 07:28
Kees Kleijwegt
Looking really good Jos! 👍
7 July 2019, 12:59
Slavo Hazucha
Pre-shading seems to work excellent on both greys, with the panel lines & some decent weathering it will look just great. Your process shots also brought me to an idea for a future project😉
7 July 2019, 20:05
Jos Jansen
Thx Konrad, Kees, James and Slavo...!

@James, I am not done with the camouflage yet, I want to add some gray accents (post-shading) here and there before applying a glossy varnish.

@Slavo...a little bit of advice from you my friend, what about the weathering, shall I do a black panel line wash or ... I also have several gray panel line washes from Mig Jimenez, the A.Mig 1600, 1601 and the 1602, this perhaps gives a more subtle look ... what do you think?
7 July 2019, 20:51
Maciej Bellos
Nice camo Jos! Since the colours are a bit light, some dark gray wash would be ok. The black would be too profound.
7 July 2019, 21:00
Slavo Hazucha
Morning Jos, my humble bit of advice: On my model, I worked with oils, mostly pure black & thinned to different degrees - on MRP colors (lacquer, semi-gloss), they were absolutely controllable in terms of final effect & hue so I could get what I wanted. But I also wanted the side effect of a slightly darkened & uneven finish on the major color surfaces, not just panel lines. Black was OK for my project, because it was no problem to remove as much as I needed, with dry or slightly thinner-dipped towel or cotton wad. If you do not want the slight darkening of surfaces, I'd probably go for the darkest grey panel wash. Depends on the degree of effect you want.
8 July 2019, 07:08
Jos Jansen
Hey Slavo...thx brother for your feedback, I understand what you say Slavo, now I have reasonable experience with a black wash and therefore also for the panel lines. For this I use the black oil paint of Abteilung 502 in various diluted variants. I think I will go for a general wash over the plane and emphasize the panel lines, whether diluted or not. The color scheme is light enough in itself, so it doesn't hurt if a slightly dark (gray) filter comes over it...
8 July 2019, 11:49
Jan Raska
WOW!
8 July 2019, 14:01
Patrick Hagelstein
Man, that looks good already! 👍
8 July 2019, 15:52
Jos Jansen
Thx Jan and Patrick, today I finished the final painting scheme of the early F-15 in the eighties...only some pre-shading and I am ready for the glossy varnish to apply the decals...happy!
13 July 2019, 18:52
Slavo Hazucha
This looks seriously crisp Jos - and it can only get better now😉
13 July 2019, 19:54
Maciej Bellos
Looking pretty good there Jos. Can't wait for the decals.
13 July 2019, 20:06
Erik Leijdens
Amazing work mate! Really looking forward to the end result, so I have a benchmark when building mine 🙂
14 July 2019, 12:56
Stephan Ryll
Very nice work so far Jos 👍
14 July 2019, 16:52
Kees Kleijwegt
Great work mate! 👍
14 July 2019, 17:21
Jos Jansen
After the post-shadening, I finished my Eagle with the ALC-600 Alclad Aqua Gloss Clear ... fantastic Gloss, becomes a super hard layer... lightly sand with a Tamiya 3000 sponge for a super smooth surface. Before I place the decals, first I treat the panel lines with A.MIG-1602 Deep Gray Panel Line Wash. I find this more subtle than a black wash ...
16 July 2019, 21:00
Jos Jansen
Decalling in progress...🙂
21 July 2019, 17:42
Slavo Hazucha
Already a beauty in mid-decal work 👍 the process you describe seems very reasonable - on my Su-34, the panel lines were so thin and shallow that I chickened out and did panel lines before the gloss (but MRP's have a semi gloss+ finish already), afraid to fill them up too much with varnish layers before weathering... 🙂 This looks great, the shading, lines & decals...
21 July 2019, 17:51
Patrick Hagelstein
I agree, a black wash would be way too harsh. The grey looks very subtle!
21 July 2019, 18:05
Daniel
good job, the shades and panel lines looks just right on that eagle 👍
21 July 2019, 19:24
Jos Jansen
@Patrick and Daniel, thx mates...a gray wash is indeed much more subtle ... I am very satisfied with this result!

This method worked out well Slavo, I actually think that I will often do a layer less to keep the panel-lines as deep as possible. Military jet aircraft do not have to be heavily weathered, a panel-line wash is often enough. What is important is that every time the layers you apply are smooth for the best results. Possible weathering can also be applied with pastels.
21 July 2019, 23:07
Jos Jansen
Almost ready with all the decals...
23 July 2019, 20:22
Konrad -
Very nice and detailed work 👍!
23 July 2019, 20:23
Maciej Bellos
Looking really good with all those decals. One thing that I didn't like going to low visibility, were the insignia used on the F-15s. The F-16 insignia look much better. Looking forward to the end result.
23 July 2019, 20:55
Slavo Hazucha
Rock & roll😉
23 July 2019, 21:04
Jos Jansen
Thx Konrad, Maciej and Slavo...it's a hell of a job but it turned out really nice and yes Slavo I agree...."Great balls of Fire"...😉
24 July 2019, 07:59

24 July 2019, 16:12
Jos Jansen
Thx Stephan, appreciate it...👍
24 July 2019, 20:16
Jos Jansen
Thank you James, the build is on hold for a moment ... in Europe, it is now high summer, in recent days it was around 40 degrees in the Netherlands...!! In my mancave, it was bloody hot, so for now, no modeling for me ... instead of the bench, I prefer to grab a beer and sit in the shade relaxing...😉
26 July 2019, 22:24
Jos Jansen
The high temperature slowly drops back to normal here in the Netherlands, finally finished decalling my "Slobberin Wolfhound" ...
27 July 2019, 23:00
Chris Greathouse
Very cool decals!
27 July 2019, 23:09

Patrick Hagelstein
Air con what???
28 July 2019, 05:14
Erik Leijdens
Great work Jos. A lot of dedication is put into it, good to see that 🙂. Gives me inspiration to go back to the bench!
28 July 2019, 07:55
Dominik Weitzer
Jos, that paintjob looks amazing! I have to read and watch your work again to get this look. I like it! Not too much, just right.
Btw, my bench is in the baseground - was really cool those hot days on the German borderside of the Netherlands .
28 July 2019, 08:01
Kees Kleijwegt
Great looking Wolfhound Jos! Excellent finish 👍👍

That F-15 is getting better every time I see the next picture. Nice work Jos!
31 July 2019, 00:59

Great weathering job on the engine section Jos! 👍 Really like the approach with the increasing streaks from LG wells backwards, well done!
31 July 2019, 05:52
Maciej Bellos
Very nice engine section!
31 July 2019, 06:03

Jos Jansen
The Slobberin Wolfhound is on its feet ... 😉 Once the resin ejection seat of Aires is ready, I can start assembling and apply the final layer of a mix of Satin and Matt Lacquer Clear Coat from HATAKA.
1 August 2019, 18:52
Stephan Ryll
Ah that's looking great Jos 🙂 very nice work 👍
1 August 2019, 19:14

Thx guys...I am almost ready to reveal my Eagle...🙂
1 August 2019, 20:18
Erik Leijdens
Can't wait to see the end result mate 🙂
1 August 2019, 22:07
Jos Jansen
I almost finished your resin seat...pics will follow in our app...👍
1 August 2019, 22:25
Erik Leijdens
I discovered that the Aces II seats of the F-16 and F-15 differed in the position of the ejection handle. For the F-16 it was a single piece in the middle and the 15 haves 2 handles on the outsides.
1 August 2019, 23:21
Jos Jansen
Seat is ready...before I place it in the cockpit, a picture of the result.

@Erik...thanks for your research, by the way, I have also seen the single ejection handle on photos ... I can remove it in no time, no problem...🙂 (...again thx for the support 😉)
2 August 2019, 19:52
Stephan Ryll
Great work on the bang seat Jos 👍
3 August 2019, 08:48
Jos Jansen
Thx Stephan...!
3 August 2019, 09:02
Slavo Hazucha
Expert job on the seat - a nice mold & PE as a start, and you really got the max out of it! 👍 Looks like this will be one of these jury-proof builds!😉
3 August 2019, 09:02
Daniel
Amazing ACES II, great weathering job jos 👍

3 August 2019, 21:58
Jos Jansen
Thx guys...roll out this weekend...🙂 👍
5 August 2019, 17:06
Daniel
Definitely something to look forward to 👍
5 August 2019, 17:42
Sergej I
Nice model! I like the lacquer paints. How is Hataka lacquer thinner? Slow drying, fast drying, how often do you clean the needle in a 0,3ish airbrush?
5 August 2019, 17:47
Jos Jansen
@ Daniel...glad you like it, this weekend I'm going to photograph him in a photo booth, please wait...😉

@ Sergej...I did not use HATAKA paint, only the final layer was done with a mix of 50:50 Satin and Matt Lacquer Clear Coat. I do have the pressure between 1.2 and 1.5 Psi for a nice thin final top coat. I have 0.2 nozzle and have no problems with quick drying on the needle. I mix the Satin and Matt 1:1 with the HATAKA Lacquer thinner.

I painted the plane with Ammo from Mig Jimenez acrylic paint, the spray is nice and tight with a little Mig thinner, but the paint from Gunze is stronger and you can also sand the Gunze paint lightly to apply a nice smooth Gloss layer.
5 August 2019, 20:30
Sergej I
Thanks, Jos
5 August 2019, 20:55
Slavo Hazucha
Something to look up to for the weekend 🙂

Looking great
7 August 2019, 06:25
Holger Kranich
Damn nice build! Really a tasty Eagle. But why the russian cockpit blue in your pit? I am looking forward your rollout.😉
7 August 2019, 11:20
Patrick Hagelstein
That's only for the avionics compartment. For some reason that was primed in a blue metallic primer similar to WWII Japanese aircraft.
7 August 2019, 14:06
Holger Kranich
Nice to know that, Patrick. We always learn & learn here. 🙂
7 August 2019, 14:13

Today is the roll-out, may I introduce you to the Slobberin Wolfhound, an F-15C 32TFS USAFE from the former Soesterberg airbase in the Netherlands. Thanks to everyone for the often praising and enthusiastic words during the building of my Eagle, this was certainly appreciated!
Enjoy the roll-out photos it was an honor to build a former American interceptor who has flown for years in the Dutch skies. 🙂

This kit will be published in Model Aircraft Monthly soon.

Absolutely great show Jos! 👍 👍 👍 Consistently superb work start-to-finish, agree with James, the whole engine section is a joy to behold & also special praise for the smart work on the 2 main greys plus weathering - shading, colors & post production just create a seriously cool outcome overall. You know your trade sir & I am very much looking forward to the Aggressor October show!😉

My first publication of a built model, I am so excitic! Due to delivery problems, I haven't received the December edition of Model Aircraft Magazine yet, but I want to share this with you!

Congrats Jos! Outstanding!
I just bought the same kit and I am researching other mates' builds. Questions:
(a) Any trouble fitting the AIRES ejection seat in the cockpit? Are the dimensions ok?
(b) Did you use the kit's decals for the cockpit? I am thinking about getting the Eduard PE for Hasegawa, as I see other mates here have successfully managed to fit it, but I wonder how the decals look like in the finished model... Would a close up photo be possible at this stage? (I hope this is not too much to ask 🙂 )
