Good progress so far!
7. September 2016, 20:26
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Andor. Hopefully I will continue with this project soon.

Ekki
Interesting.
7. September 2016, 20:38
Maciej Bellos
I hope the masking turns out ok. If so it will be interesting indeed.

Adam Gudynowski
I have mine started too (ArmaHobby 1:48 ) but masking this strips really freaks me out.
12. September 2016, 19:18
Maciej Bellos
Adam, I am not really worried about the strips. What freaks me out is how I am gonna do the curvy parts like on the sides of the nose cone. Eitherway, I'll let you know how it goes in 1/72.

That kit of yours, I know it is resin, how is the fit of it?
12. September 2016, 20:05
Adam Gudynowski
The fit and quality of casting is rather good, but there are some difficult places. Master is 3D printed basing on true factory drawings, so I don't think we ever get better model😉

For curve lines try new Tamiya tape for curves
[img1]
Or 3M vinyl for curves.

12. September 2016, 20:35
Łukasz Gliński
That's very encouraging, I have to rethink starting mine😉
14. September 2016, 07:41
Bart Goesaert
very nice build of a not so descent kit. Will you replace the end of the pitot-tubes by a wire or tubes at the main wings so that these are a bit more in scale?
14. September 2016, 08:17
Maciej Bellos
Łukasz please do! I'll be watching for sure. Thanks.
14. September 2016, 17:58
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Bart. I will replace the pitot tubes for sure. I was thinking of using pins but then I saw that some sewing needles are a bit thinner. Just let me finish the Apache, I put on most of the decals and there are 6-8 stencils left (not taking into account the 8 Hellfire missiles and the rocket pods)

Aris aka Amen
Mathie Kit has serious fitting issues but it seems you managed it well. Very interesting project. I have a similar kit in the wishlist but in the version i want is out of stock. I'm talking for the arma hobby of course. I'm waiting their eshop so i can combine with some mig-29 after market they recently released!
17. September 2016, 12:28
Maciej Bellos
Ari, that Arma Hobby kit is on my wish list too. I suppose it sold like crazy. Good for them! There are a few mates here that have it and started it.
The mastercraft was really a handful and I am pushing it mre with my choice of camouflage. So after that a 48th kinetic F-16 (notorius for the fit issues) must be a walk in the park. :-D
17. September 2016, 18:58
Aris aka Amen
haaha yes. that's the good part of it , next modern kits would look very easy! I will take a look the builds of iskra.
17. September 2016, 19:04
Peter Klin
You are doing a very good job with this uneasy kit! I have one in stash, too, and your approach inspired me. I'm following with great interest.
9. October 2016, 10:05
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Peter. I'll get on with it at the end of the month, after the IPMS Nationals in Athens.

Getting it on with the masking tape.

Nice masking work Maciej 👍
3. March 2017, 22:33
Maciej Bellos
Thanks Erik :) It took me a lot of time and I cross my fingers that it will be worth it.
3. March 2017, 22:45
Erik Leijdens
I will cross my fingers too mate 🙂
3. March 2017, 23:02
Łukasz Gliński
Exquisite masking, you must be extremely patient 🙂
4. March 2017, 11:38
Maciej Bellos
Thanks Erik!
Łukasz, it seems I am a bit. :)
4. March 2017, 21:50
Bart Goesaert
thumbs up for the result... but the work before looks promising..
6. March 2017, 08:25
Maciej Bellos
Masked off. Not thrilled with the result. There is red in places it shouldn't be and there isn't red in places it should be. Lot's of touching up needs to be done with the not so friendly white.
20. March 2017, 22:23
Bart Goesaert
looks pretty good though, can't you scrape away some red carefully?
21. March 2017, 08:31
Łukasz Gliński
It's not perfect, but still I would've been quite happy with such result 🙂
21. March 2017, 08:58
Maciej Bellos
Yes Bart, that's what came into my mind right away and I will try it out.
Łukasz, well, I was hoping for it to be better, but it could also be much worse. Hopefully it will turn out ok, it's a good base point to take it up more.
I'll keep you posted.
21. March 2017, 21:19
23. March 2017, 07:04
Maciej Bellos
Thanks Adam!
23. March 2017, 20:09
Maciej Bellos
Touched up. Actually I used clear decal film painted with red and applied it as decals in the problematic places. I also scraped some of the red that went over the white. Time for decals!

I'm astonished and jealous😉

Excellent work so far and thx for the step by step photos and information 👍
4. July 2017, 17:51
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Łukasz! Some patience and you can do it!
Thank you Christian, your kind words mean a lot!
Sorry for the scarse updates...
4. July 2017, 19:37
Łukasz Gliński
If not your pics I'd say it's impossible😉
4. July 2017, 21:11
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Lukasz for your kind words. NowIneed to persuade or to be more presice to beg the people at Mastercraft to send me a decal sheet... My home made print is rather crude.
5. July 2017, 17:49
Peter Klin
Good improvements! Waiting for the last steps...
6. July 2017, 14:57
Łukasz Gliński
Maciej, it would be much easier and cheaper to buy another BCI Iskra just for decals IMHO 🙂
6. July 2017, 16:49
Roland Sachsenhofer
Wow, that bird looks great! Marvelous work!
6. July 2017, 18:32
Maciej Bellos
Getting a "Wow" and a "Marvelous" from a modeller such as Roland is really great! Thank you very much!!!
Łukasz, I might actually resort to that... :)
6. July 2017, 20:02
Adam Gudynowski
Very nice 🙂
6. July 2017, 21:49
Oleg Smilyk
Very nice work!
7. July 2017, 18:12

So I am troubled now... I have been going through pictures of the Team Iskry birds and the effect of the panel lines is very subtle or non-existent at all. So I am thinking that a wash is of no use, it will make the model toylike. When looking at the model from a close distance you can easily see the panel lines. When it is a bit further the panel lines more or less disappear as in the photos of the real thing. I came to the conclusion that white is a very tricky colour for a camo... Your thoughts?
8. July 2017, 21:00
Gordon Sørensen
Incredible paint job, Maciej! That masking in 1/72 is no small feat!
8. July 2017, 21:27
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Gordon!
9. July 2017, 07:06
Roland Sachsenhofer
Hello Maciej, I would let the surfaces without any outlining of the recessed panel lines. These recesses are anyway not in scale, especially on a model scale 1:72.; they are just approaches to simulate the real thing.
Looking at an real planes surfaces, there often you will find a mixture of raised and recessed lines- so flat you can hardly mold it 72 times smaller.... 🙂
9. July 2017, 09:18
Maciej Bellos
Thanks Roland for the insight.
9. July 2017, 20:14
Łukasz Gliński
Hi Maciej, my proposal would be different 🙂 I'd go for very light gray or dark alu wash, I'll try this idea soon on my SR 53 (not decided yet whether this gonna be a classic sludge wash or pencil drawn)
10. July 2017, 06:15
Roland Sachsenhofer
Lukasz, your approach sounds interesting! I will try that for myself on the next adequate model.
10. July 2017, 08:30
Łukasz Gliński
Remember it's not verified!😉 (almost - I had pencilled my Blue Impulse Sabre a bit using light gray colour)
10. July 2017, 08:32
Roland Sachsenhofer
For sure! It´s quite interesting to get ideas and inspiration from fellow modelers!
10. July 2017, 08:37
Bart Goesaert
I also tried with a very light wash on my Tu-160 which was all white... Looked good though: build pictures | Album by Silenoz (1:144)
10. July 2017, 08:59
Maciej Bellos
Some progress. I have put on the decals and after seeing tons of photos of the aerobatics team, I decided not to apply any wash at all. The lines are barely visible on the real thing and you can't distinguish them when you are starting to go away.
The panel lines in my model are already visible enough, so no need to do anything more.
18. August 2017, 23:25
Łukasz Gliński
Wow, looks grand
19. August 2017, 09:59
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Łukasz. I'm glad it's coming out ok.
19. August 2017, 12:15
Alec K
That color scheme is TOUGH!! inspiring masking job, it turned out very well imho 👍
19. August 2017, 12:55
Maciej Bellos
Thanks Alec! Yes, the masking was tough and time consuming.
19. August 2017, 13:01
Aris aka Amen
Now it stands out with those decals! just wow!
19. August 2017, 21:55
Adam Gudynowski
Paintjob turns out very nice 🙂 Are you going to polish before last layer of gloss?
21. August 2017, 06:00
Roland Sachsenhofer
Wonderful work Maciej! Again, my deep adoration for this subtle painting in this scale!
Adam, interesting question: polish the Polish 🙂
21. August 2017, 07:28
Dave Flitton
Beautiful! When I bought mine, I did not know it would be such a putty munster
21. August 2017, 12:16
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Ari, Adam, Roland and Dave. Adam I got a layer of semigloss varnish and I am considering to apply a layer of gloss. Will see if I polish the Polish as Roland said 🙂 (whose adoration I humbly accept)
Dave, yes it's a putty monster, but with a little care it can come out good. Now that there is the Arma Hobby TS-11, this one is, well to put it softly, obsolete.

Bas Jansen
I like it so far!
22. August 2017, 17:52
Erik Leijdens
Insanely good Maciej, hard to believe you had troubles with the stripes earlier!
22. August 2017, 18:41
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Calvin, Łukasz, Bernhard, Bas and Erik. Yes Erik, a lot of cleaning up with a new scalpel was required.

I am a bit puzzled, since the aircraft seems to be quite glossy in some photos and semiglossy in others. For example the one that is ready to take off is rather glossy, while the other that is parked is much less glossy.

And the ones in the video (AFW 2016) seem semigloss.

Youtube Video

I uploaded some new photos under the sun just for you to see how it looks like.

I think I might leave it as is. What do you think?
23. August 2017, 11:15
Peter Klin
I think the glossiness is just right, therefore I would keep it as it is. Wonderful job... can't wait to see the cockpit "unmasked"...
23. August 2017, 14:30
Gordon Sørensen
I agree with Peter, I think it looks great 'as is'!
23. August 2017, 14:37
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Peter and Gordon! I tend to believe that it is good as it is right now.
23. August 2017, 14:42
Łukasz Gliński
Maciej, I added couple of pics in support of your idea: TS-11 Walkaround | Album by Woody (check the end of the album)

Bernhard Schrock
Your patience and precision with masking is admirable! I'm curios to see your completed Iskra.
23. August 2017, 19:33
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Łukasz for the photos. It seems that those Iskras look more somigloss than gloss.
Thank you Bernhard for your kind words. I am flattered!
23. August 2017, 19:50
Łukasz Gliński
No problem - I took the pics in 2009 and 2014 and they usually don't look that glossy.
24. August 2017, 06:34
Adam Gudynowski
Great progress on yours Iskra makes me feeling bad about my in 1/48 awaiting so long for masking😉

25. September 2017, 19:16
Maciej Bellos
Adam, you should try it. It might be easier in 48th. I can email you the schematic if you want.

Big thanks to Mastercraft. Without the schematic they sent me, I wouldn't be able to paint this bird.

Congratulations for the excellent work!
Your finished model encourages me to take the same kit from my stash and give it a try...
26. September 2017, 19:43
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Łukasz! You exaggerate a bit. Up close and personal and you can clearly see the shortcomings of the Mastercraft kit.

Thanks Bart!

Thank you Michael! The whole thing was a test of my skills and I think I passed it!

Thank you Stephan!

Thank you Ekki

Thanks Peter! Do try it! All the info for the problems I encoutered is in this album and ofcourse I will be here for any questions that might arise.

Nice 👍 Do You know that Arma Hobby has new much better TS-11 model in 1/72 since few years? Much less painfull than MasterCraft 😄
12. November 2020, 09:29
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Adam! Yeah, I know about the Arma Hobby Iskra. This Mastercraft was a gift and I started it about the same time the good TS-11 came out. Didn't know it then and wasn't a member of scalemates to find it out either... Maybe I will get my hands on one later on.

Thank you Marek. This one fought the cleaning lady and got away with a missing pitot tube. Phew!
20. January, 18:36

Fantastic result! Congratulations!
13. April, 20:09
Maciej Bellos
Thank you Robert, Patryk, Villiers and Peppy!

Robert, the masking was challenging and my first attempt raised the question of how am I going to make this symmetrical! After pondering about a solution I made masks which were placed carefully. I am glad you like it!

The model earned Bronze at the IPMS Nationals here in Greece about one and a half yeas ago.
