The lettering is on the outside of the tailgate, visible in flight mode. Thank god I decided to show the landing mode before noticing that crazy fact. But I now already sanded it away.

Album image #8
Started to get rid of the problem areas.

Album image #9
Some more greeblies for the interior. With open doors there are good visible areas.

Album image #10
I tried to make a carbon freezed Trooper for the collection of Mando. This was before I ownded a Resin 3D-Printer.

Album image #11
So the first colors for the interior are supplied.

Album image #12
Carbon freezing in progress.

Album image #13
Some hours worked on painting interior details. I will not use all of the decals for the cockpit. Painting the buttons and lights is so much more fun. 😉

Album image #14
Cockpit is painted.

Album image #15
A friend of mine has a new 3D printer and tried to print a Grogu figure for me. The smaller one fits better to the scale of 1/72 but the details are poor and it is hard to paint. So I am not sure which one I will use for the RC. Think I will paint both and see how it comes out.

Album image #16
Finally painted both figures. The big one looks better to me, of course. But with a height of 15mm it will never fit to 1/72 scale. So I think I will use it later for any other project. The smaller Grogu must take place somewhere in the Razor Crest.

Album image #17
Some last pics with lights from above. You will hardly see all the details later.

Main parts glued together.

Album image #28
Glued some parts and tried to paint the engine fire with orange. Since I don't use electronics (electricity and I are kind of at war), paint will have to suffice.

Album image #29
Weapons and landing gear was a lot of work on seamlines.

Album image #30
Some putty and sanding needed to get the big parts together.

Album image #31
Ready for priming.

Album image #32
Gloss black is sprayed.

Album image #33
First layer of Aluminium color applied. I used Vallejo Model Air Aluminium. Looks a bit bright but it will darken a lot with all the color variations and weathering.

It would be interesting to know what a response from Revell looks like

Your build looks great, but yikes, I'm not thrilled with Revell's molding quality. Certainly not a Bandai Star Wars kit.

Looks great. Seems to be a fun kit. 🙂

Chris T. An
Thank you all for watching. Now I have improved all the problem areas, and it was less work than expected. So in conclusion I must say that the kit is really cool, I'm enjoying the build.

Next steps are adding more battle damage and some small surface damages before painting the hull.
16 January 2022, 12:59
Gary Kitchen
Chris loving your build so far. A notch above mine for sure. Have you dry fitted the top d bottom of the hull yet? Im seeing some resistance and wondering if the cockpit is too high, although can't get it any lower.
16 January 2022, 22:41
Chris T. An
Thanks for your praise, Gary. In fact, I haven't put the top on yet including the interior block. You're scaring me now. Today or tomorrow I will probably be ready to test it. I will report back.
17 January 2022, 10:39
Gareth Burge
Looks great so far Chris, definitely keen to see how this goes. Loving the wee Grogu figures...can I ask where you sourced them from?
17 January 2022, 11:11
Chris T. An
Thank you Gareth. A good friend of mine printed the figures and he told me that he got the files from Thingiverse for free.
17 January 2022, 12:31
Pierre Pierre
my problem is : I just bought one for my christmass tree 🙂 and now I really do not know how my skills is not at your level and I still want to do something worth seeing for everyone ! I need an orginal idea for this kit 🙂 congrat it is really amazing detailling
17 January 2022, 15:45
Chris T. An
So Gary, I had no bigger problems with putting the parts together. Some putty and sanding will be required but the cockpit height is ok. Maybe the Mando figure is too tall. I did not use it inside the cockpit.
@Pierre: please don't give a damn about my abilities. I also only boil with water and patience is probably the biggest challenge. The metallic paint job already makes me feel sick. I've seen great finishes on the Razor Crest with LED lights and so on... that I will never be able to achieve. So don't worry, just do it.
17 January 2022, 21:00
Stu Perry
I wouldn't waste my money on any revel kit.
20 January 2022, 17:40
Torsten
Very nice progress. When I see the pictures after assembly, the model seems to become quite a hunk. I'll keep the idea of the orange in the engines in mind, I'm not that talented in electronics either. I am curious about the further painting of the metals. Do you have pictures of the "original" or do you work intuitively?
22 January 2022, 09:30
Chris T. An
Torsten, for inspiration I have been looking for various photos from the series and also for built models. With this input, I am now trying to design the surface according to my ideas. I guess it would be really hard to render every single panel exactly like in the movie, because there are just no clear color specifications for every square inch of the surface. It's science fiction, so you can let your imagination run wild.
22 January 2022, 19:12
Pierre Pierre
hi can you let us know which technique did you use to differenciate pannels ?
23 January 2022, 12:21
Chris T. An
Of course, I masked off all the panels one after the other and sprayed them with the airbrush. 😉
No no, I wanted to do that first, but have previously tried another method that works great:
3-4 drops of metallic paint (Vallejo Model Air Aluminum) diluted with 2 drops of water and then mix a drop of tinting color (light brown, dark brown, black, gray, etc.). The whole thing can then be distributed very well with a fine brush on the individual panels, without seeing brush strokes. The recessed panellines help wonderfully.
23 January 2022, 14:10
Robin (WhiteGlint)
Sounds like a nice way of doing this. Otherwise you'd need all that time and more for masking. 👍
23 January 2022, 15:21
Rui S
Your paintjob is simply looking excellent, inside out 👍
23 January 2022, 15:27
Ben M
Nice way to color panels.
23 January 2022, 15:53
Tim van Dooremalen
Interesting technique for the panels. Got to remember that one.
23 January 2022, 16:15
Erik
The panels really look good.
23 January 2022, 16:43

it sounds a hell lot faster than masking and airbrushing. and certainly looks good

👍
23 January 2022, 19:15
Gary Kitchen
Still going strong Chris. Great work on the metallic externals, certainly adds a touch of individuality. Otherwise all these Razor Crests will look a bit samey. Interior nozzle choice is interesting too 👍.

Dietmar Bogatzki
Nice paint and weathering job, Chris 👍
25 January 2022, 07:36
Torsten
Maybe I missed it, but did you use the decals from the kit? I had read that there could be problems with the cover due to the metallic surface and that it is too translucent.
29 January 2022, 09:03
Chris T. An
Torsten, yes I used the decals. Wanted to try it and if it hadn't worked well, I would have removed it again and painted it myself. But I had no problems. With Microscale Set and Sol the decals sink wonderfully into the recesses, there is no silvering. And after the first wash they don't look so "artificial" anymore.
29 January 2022, 22:06
Torsten
Thanks Chris, I'm currently collecting all the info on the build so I can get mine to work just as well one day 🙂
30 January 2022, 08:33
JD
I've been meaning to say something about how fantastic the paint job looks, and how cool the build is and all, but even as a Star Wars nerd, I've yet to see a single episode of the Mandalorian.. how embarrassing 🥺
30 January 2022, 22:45
Gareth Burge
Agree on all counts there JD! stunning work on the painting...high target for the rest of us! As for not watching Mando yet JD? Go and sit on the naughty step and don't come back until you've watched it! :-D
31 January 2022, 12:23

The addition of a little Grogu really finishes it off! How big (or small) is that 3D-printed Grogu anyway?
5 February 2022, 13:05
Robin (WhiteGlint)
Very well weathered. 👍
5 February 2022, 14:35
Chris T. An
Thank you all. Next step is creating a simple landig pad for the Razor Crest to take the final pictures.
Tim, the Grogu is 9mm small. 😉
5 February 2022, 18:24
Gary Kitchen
Going strong Chris. Looking fabulous. I hope I can get even somewhere near this and I'd be happy.

Outstanding work...weathering is spot on. Now I just need to find somewhere that will sell me a 1/72nd Grogu.... 🙂
10 February 2022, 08:39
Brandon H
Top notch work here, Chris!
10 February 2022, 13:26
Torsten
It was very exciting and interesting to follow your construction of the Razor Crest. Some of it I will implement when building mine and also benefit from your experience. In the end, in my opinion, a very nice model has come out and the base supports this very effectively, because you look more at the model. Congratulations 🙂

Now I just have to see how I get to the little figure, which is for me the icing on the cake 😄
11 February 2022, 14:31
Simon Nagorsnik
Awesome finish! I really like the weathered look!
An ollover well done paint job, very nice presented 👍
The little yoda and the inside details enliven the whole thing very much.

great result! I especially like the exhausts - looks very cool and convincing and I can only repeat that little Grogu is the icing on the cake 👍
12 February 2022, 07:59
Chris T. An
Thank you all so much for your positive words. I appreciate it very much. 😉

I have now taken a few more photos with less light, so the illuminated landing platform comes better into its own.
13 February 2022, 07:16

Incredible finishing 👍 Never expected you would do this kind of weathering. Great
13 February 2022, 17:15
Roland Revolvermann
You nailed it 👍 Great build, congrats!
13 February 2022, 17:17

I was just browsing around, wondering if I should maybe try something new, maybe some SciFi, weathered heavy metal, bounty hunter style and then I see this build - Dude, this is beyond awesome, absolutely stunning result 👍 👍
Buying this kit.

So JD, how could you stop watching without completing the whole season? 🤣
1 March 2022, 15:51
Tim van Dooremalen
Where did you get the additional figures?
1 March 2022, 18:26
JD
Well…🙄 it's mostly a money thing. my cable bill is already through the roof, and I have a kit buying addiction to feed.🤭
1 March 2022, 19:07
Chris T. An
Tim, the figures are a resin print with my new Elegoo Mars 2 Pro. I was so excited about my friend's Grogu filament 3D print, so I figured a resin printer would be perfect for a modeler. I'm still exploring exposure times and support settings. But it's coming along.
2 March 2022, 09:50
Gary Kitchen
Looking better and better every time I see it. 👍
2 March 2022, 16:44
Tim van Dooremalen
Cool to hear you've got your own 3d printer now! Could you add a close-up picture of just the figures perhaps? And where did you download the file?
3 March 2022, 17:51
Dietmar Bogatzki
Is the Slave I also from Revell, Chris?
3 March 2022, 17:56
Chris T. An
Dietmar, yes, the Slave 1 is Revell. You can find my build here:
Star Wars Slave 1 "Boba Fett" | Album by Hell-Mood (1:88)

Tim, I have now uploaded the pictures of the figures. The files are free from thingiverse.com

Thanks Chris, seems that i missed that 🙁

Again thanks to you all. I will try to print a Mandalorian Naboo N-1 Fighter some day, so that there are 3 ships all together.

Jörg Schäfer
A very well made model.
14 December 2023, 08:57
CaptGPF
Masterpiece build! But I think the "defects" you pointed out in the earlier slides were actually dings and dents Revell thoughtfully put into the kit so you don't have to! 😱. If you notice in Season 1, the poor ship had to go through quite a bit of abuse, so Revell did you a favor. The flash you see on the kit was also a bonus…. 🤨
14 March, 21:31

Album info

Welcome to this cool Star Wars build. First I just want to show a few close ups of problem areas because there are several discussions on the web.

Don't get me wrong, I think the kit is great and I'm excited to have started now. As a reasonably accomplished modeler, it's nothing you can't handle. Nevertheless, of course, annoying for such a new tool.

So folks, it's not a Bandai, but it's not a 70's kit either. So feel free to try it. The details are impressive.
