Already got one picked out. ;)

His is by far the biggest kit I've ever tackled. Had trouble with cement running a bit wild... mainly because I tried to make sure the fuselage halves were even. Still had some uneven edges along the seam, and now I've got a few fingerprint spots to sand down.

Greg's factory is on fire! I can see there's another diecast car in a box waiting its turn.
Following!
2. March, 19:46

It's big... especially for someone use to working on 1/144 scale. It's such a great looking plane though and I'm hoping I can do it justice with some Air India livery. I am still trying to figure out where I'm going to put it though. My Tintin shelf is already a bit packed.

Cuajete - there's actually two diecast cars in that box. One is a Zil 115 (a close cousin of the car from Tintin and the Picaros) and the other is the Audi R6 which is the family car from the Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) movie "Spirited Away". ;)

Excellent Me 262A-1a and is that also a Messerschmitt too? That is what you were talking about, right???? LOL
3. March, 05:05
Greg Baker
I've got three Tintin related builds on the go... The Messerschmidt Bf109 from King Ottokar's Sceptre, the blue Ford Zephyr Taxi from The Black Island, and the Connie from Tintin in Tibet.

The box on the left side, near the Bf109 has two diecast cars, the Zil 115 and an Audi R6. I've also got my Haunted Tank project stalled for a bit, the Spad XIII rigging at the top of the pic is going slow...

And the Me262 has been misbehaving, so it's sitting there until it decides it wants to cooperate again... ;)

Love the connie, beautiful looking aircraft. My wife bought me an art deco style metal ornament that is a connie flying over a domed globe base. Really brings back the golden age of aviation.

Resurrected this one. Since it'll be "in flight" (with no pilot!) I had to shave the wheels to fit inside the wells. To make it even more of a challenge, there's a bit of a slope towards the front. It was snug, but I got it in and glued in place.

Wow... another diecast restoration!
Good job with the windshield .
19. February, 19:23
Greg Baker
That windshield was actually a bit tricky, there's a bend in the bottom corners, and a bit of an arc along the bottom, but straight at the top. You can see a bit of a stress mark where I forced it in a bit too early near the top.

Working with diecast is fun, but a new sort of challenge. I'm already wondering how I'm going to attach an antenna to the back end without being able to drill a hole. :)

It's all been replaced with the Hunt for those kits I couldn't afford back in the day (or made a mess of). I've been pretty lucky so far, about 2/3 of my Stash is 90's and earlier, no longer being produced and not likely to be re-released. I do wonder if those MPC Star Wars moulds are still preserved somewhere in Round2's storage, waiting for the day Revell can't get a licence from Disney.

Hmm, esay idk. So in principle only the solvent of the lower paint layer has to be different from the one above. Acrylics are available with different thinners. The following wash combinations work very well for me.

Tamiya/mr Hobby clear gloss (ipa + drop of laquer thinner) -> AK emaille wash, (Tamiya emaille should work fine too)
AK real colors clear gloss (laquer thinned) -> Vallejo wash (water based) (DONT use Tamiya acrylics!!!)
25. February, 07:40

after the disaster with my NXR-700 I started using Flory Models washes.... they can be user over all paints. water based clay. if you do not like, you can be remove them with water and start over. Work like a charm.

14. February, 07:56

The tail colours in the comic are wrong, but because it specifically says the Hangman is French, I'm going with the correct colouring. Also added a small homemade decal for the gallows marking. I'm wondering if someone can help clear up a mystery for me? Does anyone know why it seems to be impossible to get Tamiya enamel paint in Canada? I'm not a huge user of enamel paint, but I had a small selection of "go to" bottles when I was in Korea that I used in certain cases. It didn't even occur to me that I couldn't get them in Canada. Luckily I was able to find some Tamiya X-20 enamel thinner online (useful for cleaning up the Tamiya panel washes), but I'm having no luck finding any Tamiya enamel paint except on eBay from Hong Kong - and it's a bit pricey. I've seen some rumours online (circa 2010) that Canada banned enamel paint... but we've got Testors... so?

I never use much... one bottle lasts for years, so I might consider buying 2-3 from Hong Kong... but not if they'll get stopped at the border and seized. :(

So great Clifford said it twice!

Well, by unpopular demand, I decided to dive into the second Me262 in my stash. I have to say, the Hasegawa kit leaves a lot to be desired as a follow-up to the much newer Academy kit. But since it's wheels up and a pilot in a closed cockpit I'm going to take the path of least resistance.

One thing I'm trying to figure out how to handle is the fact that the Haunted Tanks all fly the Confederate Battle flag (being haunted by a Confederate cavalry general and all). It's certainly a bit controversial at the moment, but I'm likely to add it for 3 main reasons 1) people put nazi symbols on WWII era models all the time, 2) I hate revisionist history, even in comics. Tintin had some issues with racists (Tintin in the Congo), and trying to hide the past dooms us to repeat it... and the distant 3) is that, to me, as a child of the 70s/80s, the Confederate battle flag is more synonymous with the Dukes of Hazard General Lee Dodge Charger than anything else.

I wonder if anyone else has any thoughts?
25. January, 03:51
wilky
I actually don't like flags at all.
Being symbols of division but you have to put the flag on because you're making a model and that's what it had.
I love the Dukes of Hazzard.
One of my favourite slot cars is the General Lee and it wouldn't look right without the flag.
Neither would your model.
In Australia the Southern Cross flag has been appropriated by the racists too.

Thanks David! The tank itself is basically done now. Besides painting the driver, there's only one little thing left to figure out. The figures are coming along as well. I got a tip to stiffen up the soft vinyl plastic using some varnish. The resin figures didn't quite pan out, but I've got one more trick up my sleeve hopefully.

Also, like to make a shout out to fellow mate in scale, docaebee for giving me a bottle of his homemade "Doc's Decal Solution" before I left Korea. Stuff worked like a charm getting ancient white star decals to lay down and stay down.
13. January, 16:06
Tom ...
Greg, it really looks great! Well done!
15. January, 10:24
Greg Baker
Ok... a bit more ghosty now. I decided that the ghost should be a bit more stand alone because there's a pretty good chance I'll also build the Jigsaw Tank and the M4 Sherman versions of the Haunted Tank too. Anyone got a suggestion for a reasonably priced 1/72 Sherman? ;)
19. January, 07:32
Spanjaard
very ghosty indeed :)
19. January, 08:36
Greg Baker
Ok. The more I thought about it... the more I wanted to include the other two Haunted Tanks in this project. After the M3 is destroyed, the team moves on to build a Jigsaw Tank. That one is later destroyed as well and the team takes over an M4 Sherman (much to the chagrin of their ghost-in-residence).

The Jigsaw tank is the bigger challenge. The chassis is from a T-34 (I was going to get a Zvezda, but found a Trumpeter box on the shelf instead) but what really put it over the top was deciding to go with the M24 Pershing turret. I have a turret leftover from my Blue Tintin Moon tank project, and it looks enough like the Jigsaw Tank's that I think I'll be happy with just a bit of modification.

I had thought I'd need the turret from a M42 Walker, but given there's only one (relatively expensive) option, I was hesitant. Once I realized I could dip into the spares box... there was nothing left to hold me back. ;)
23. January, 23:04

12. January, 11:19

Good eyes Łukasz. However, in my defence, that's what it says in my reference image (the header on the project page). I actually did know it was wrong, but decided to go with it for two reasons - a) because it's the reference image, and b) I had USAF decals ;).

The Roundel in the reference image is wrong too I believe (not a WWII marking), but I compromised with one that had a red stroke around the outside (which I think is still WWII) but not with the red USAF bar in the middle.

I blame Irv Novak for not doing his homework when he drew the issue. ;)

Ok... He's back in action - in style! And with new comic-inspired modelling adventures! :)

Haha! Not quite back in action... but I think I can manage a little tank build in between the home improvement projects. ;)

Yep. That's why I've waited until now to get it... it's a "welcome home" present to me.

My kit stash and modelling equipment is now floating on a ship in the Pacific Ocean, I traded The last of my semi-used supplies away, and I bought all the last-minute kits I could conceivably squeeze into my luggage. So, now I’m just scrolling through Scalemates to see all the cool projects my mates are up to, and plotting my own future projects. I’ve got a few “interlude” projects that I want to try... ones that require minimal tools/supplies, but I can’t decide what “real” project I want to tackle after the shackles of my move are off... I want to build them all at once! ;)

Don't we all share the same problem of wanting to build all kits "asap as possible"? ;)

well, I didn't think I was alone in that... ;)

Thanks guys. I wrapped everything very carefully, but I'm sure my first few projects on Canadian soil will be repair jobs. I've had itchy fingers the last few weeks... but amazingly my stash seems to be growing. I'm pretty sure there will be a small tower of boxes waiting for me on my new (old) doorstep. :)

I now that whole-stash-built-at-once wish ;) Sometime I think about solutions of specific things 4 or 5 projects ahead, with the kit untouched in stash. I think it would be better to concentrate on a actual project.
