Holden are about to cease existing.
Holden was a company that built bodies for General Motors chassis that were imported into Australia.
Ford on the other hand sent everything over except for the wooden components for assembly in Australia.
Holden was able to capitalise on the fact that he was already building bodies for the General Motors chassis and he was able to affiliate with General Motors to form General Motors Holden.
Thus maintaining a relationship with earlier customers with a name already known in Australia.
I'm a Ford man myself.
I like Falcons.
They drive better than Holdens.
I like Holden Monaros but I owned three HQ GTS Monaros and I'd rather look at it than drive it.
I have. '70 XW Falcon sedan, XA Fairmont 2 door, XF Falcon sedan an two AU Falcon sedans and a Ford Courier with a broken gearbox, FN shitbox it is because it's a Mazda

Wilky, I'd disagree, whatever the current trend, I see Ford & GM always having their own Identity, at least on the front. Even the Jelly Mould era in the late 80's & 90's produced significantly different offerings from the two in the same segment.

There is a general similarity across Ford (and former Ford) Brands as their identity was derived from a common design team, such as the current Aston Martin nose to new Ford European vehicles, and the common body structure design of Fords with Volvos, although these are beginning to separate as Volvo develop a new platform, and Ford continues with the Platforms designed for them when they owned the Volvo Development team.

A question: I'm trying to de-chrome a couple of Italeri sprues. I've tested with regular bleach: no go. I've tested with a "professional" oven/bbq cleaner: no go. The cleaner completely stripped the paint of my alligator clips, but not from the sprue.
I am not a fan of Italeri products, but their chrome sticks perfectly (sadly enough).

Who can give me a nod in the right direction? Preferably with a product easily bought in The Netherlands.

Haven't tried it myself, but is supposed to work too.....and is widely available in NL [img1]?options=399,q85
5. February, 06:43
Rod -
Caustic soda, or drain cleaner. The active chemical is called sodium hydroxide. (likely the same as oven cleaner) Looks like coarse, white sand. I've used it with great success on tamiya and revell chrome.
Dissolve a teaspoon of granules in a cup of water and it'll strip chrome in 10mins.
BE VERY CAREFUL! It looks just like plain water when dissolved and it's crazy toxic.
5. February, 07:39
Urban Gardini
Chlorine should do the trick. It took me ten minutes to strip the chrome plating from a Tammy bike. All but the smallest crevices was gone in just five minutes.
5. February, 07:53
Martin Oostrom
Thank you all for the suggestions.
Usually I use bleach on Tamiya/Hasegawa/Revell kits. Works perfectly.
This Italeri Chrome doesn't react to bleach, drain cleaner, ammonia and not so well to oven cleaner. The oven cleaner works well on the back side of the sprues, but not on the front. There must be some varnish like some uff on it. I tried an ammonia bath followed by a bleach bath. No dice.
I will try Dettol first, if it doesn't work it can be used in house. Second try will be brake fluid. Do I need something specific like dot 3 or dot 4 or whatever?
5. February, 09:52
Wim van der Luijt
google Dettol first.....but is't supposed to work
5. February, 10:46
Tom ...
Martin, I had the same experience. One side of the sprues dechromed quickly. Was thinking one side has a lot more chrome on it but there does also seem to be some kind of residue afterwards too so not sure what's going on. I've dechromed about 20 of my kits and had issues with 3: Revell's Isetta, ICM's Model T and this kit.
5. February, 16:32
Martin Oostrom
Finally found some mr Muscle. Works way better than the other products. One soak of three-four hours wasn't enough yesterday. So the sprues are taking another bath today

Peter and Alec, this van is so ugly, it becomes beautiful. :)

I used my Molotow pen for the first time today. Curious about the result when dry....
Other than that, only some clear sprayed in prep for some decals.

Martin, I'm sure you'll do justice to this ugly duckling! LOL. Also, FYI, I put the stripe decals on that Ford Torino, should you still be contemplating it to see what the issue is. It's very minor and I think there can be a better way to apply them than what I did. Best wishes on your van.

Wow, the last pic reminds me when as a couple of kids we made similar effort, by painting roads for die-cast cars across the whole flat of colleague's parents using corrector white paint. We spent so much time and they didn't appreciate it once they came back from work :D
25. November 2019, 10:02

Łukasz, your story reminds me of the time when I was 10 and we had just moved house. Back then I only used enamels and my twin brothers, then 3, often came looking when I was building.
One Saturday morning I was enjoying my Transformers cartoons on the Fun Factory show, my father politely asked me to come upstairs to my room. My brothers had opened all my little Revell enamel pots and mixed a nice even brown. The problem was they had smeared it EVERYWHERE! On the three months old carpet, the three months olds wall paper, my bed - and on each other. It took my parents hours to get everything cleaned up again. My mum was in tears, because they had spent months/years saving to get us all the new stuff in the new house.

Anyway, it was a Saturday well spent at ESM and I'm very happy you all enjoyed the pictures.

Peter, I actually saw an ancient Tamiya dino kit at SMC last Saturday….
I did find some time to progress with this little relevation. Quite a lot actually. This is it: roughened up the decals, added some streaking (mildly successful), glued the last bits on, put her on her base and added some extra mud to the base.
I still need to do some stuff. I need to paint her lights, add some water to the seat and …. some stuff I forgot at this hour :D
