Patrick Hagelstein Lode, somehow your linked image doesn't work.
23. May at 07:17:29
Martin Oostrom Some Kerry quotes: "Seam lines are the enemy, they must be destroyed" "Build everything at competition level, you'll know if you leave some hideous spots hidden"
It gave me a serious case of WWKCD every time I was taking it a bit easy: What Would Kerry Cox Do 8)
Lode, just kidding of course. I'm using a pattern I found online (I think I posted it above somewhere), but it isn't completely the same as on some pictures I have. Just making it up, as best of both worlds (with WWKCD knocking in the brain). Thanks for the email! Another masking product? Just bought some of Kerry's Parafilm, now you want me to get some more? ;)
Patrick, my build sequence is just wrong on this one. Call it learning. I really should have painted the superstructure parts first, before joining them. Could have asked Lode, but didn't :( now masking is a b***h as a lot of places are hard to reach. Need to find some middle ground here.
23. May at 08:06:29
Lode Schildermans Martin, here the link again. I've discovered this myself not long ago, and already a believer. For planes, it is even easier in use.

Bart Goesaert Nice work so far...

I tend to use something similar, blutack, see for instance for my Biber build (Silenoz and others... can be bought from several stores, most easy one is Modelbrouwers.nl.

@Lode: does this masking agent also creep over time as the similar one from MIG and panzerputty? It works fine, but it tends to run over time like a ripe cheese, and that I don't like so much...
23. May at 11:16:47
Martin Oostrom Crap, I have the panzerputty........
23. May at 11:55:58
Greg Baker I've been stricken by WWKCD as well a couple of times as well... the result was a sore elbow from more sanding than usual...
23. May at 12:45:24
Lode Schildermans Bart, at my experience, it does like creep over time, but I use it mainly for masking what has been paint to limit masking time. Second advantage is that with masking, sometimes paint is peeling of, which is not the case with this product.
23. May at 13:20:07
Bart Goesaert Friends of mine build mainly armor, and there it creeps into the holes of the mesh screens, which gives a lot of trouble removing it without breaking. Hence they hardly use it...

Peter Hardy Thought it would be an in joke! Was a brilliant movie! I gotta go to work. Bye!
21. May at 23:13:48
Spanjaard Hilarious... that was like 30 years ago?
21. May at 23:14:36
Peter Hardy Yep, still makes me laugh. They really took the p!ss out of the Dutch don't you think. Hey, if you want a laugh I just told Kerry I was going to teach you to drive! After teaching Mam you would be no challenge!!
22. May at 08:48:15
Spanjaard Sorry, but I do not follow.... Maybe I simply do not remember but....What have the Dutch to do with that movie?
22. May at 10:54:33
Martin Oostrom Wasn't one of the characters called Ned Niederlander?
I've been called a lot of things in my life, but The Handsome (with capitals) isn't one of those things ;)
22. May at 11:25:23
Peter Hardy Ned was the girlish sensitive one. I probably picked up on it because of my "Dutch" connection. Fantastic movie. Loved the campfire scene with the fake animals.
22. May at 13:27:43
22. May at 23:28:13
Peter Hardy Nearly as funny as the campfire scene in Blazing Saddles.

Lode Schildermans Nice progress, Martin. I hope you let it fly by Buck Danny, and not Sonny Tucson. Who knows what paint scheme you'd adopt in that case
14. May at 23:16:43
Martin Oostrom Vigilante, Dementor. It's evil and it's coming your way!
Lode, you made me chuckle. Sonny would prefer something like my P-38, don't you think?
14. May at 23:42:08
Lode Schildermans Absolutely, with Picasso touches for the fine detailing, lol
14. May at 23:53:09
Martin Oostrom Painted the exhausts with Alclad. Started with black gloss primer, then an overall layer of aluminium, dark aluminium at the rim and then a mist of jet exhaust. What do you guys think?
20. May at 17:44:14
Peter Hardy I think you have too much time on your hands. Is this four or five concurrent builds?
20. May at 22:59:23
Martin Oostrom Let me think. 1 Graf Spee 2 Vigilante 3 F-100. That makes an even 6!

Hind started and put back in box, Indy started with my son, Stranraer is in the cursed corner.
20. May at 23:39:44
Martin Oostrom Okay guys, I need some help/advice. The legs of this girl should be kept hidden beneath a long skirt. I'd like to make this a post-crash dio, just as in the comic book. I need to make some foam like this: https://google.nl/search?q=i..AUIDygC#imgrc=rZmTRSDRFgkJBM
I was thinking about cutting some styrofoam to shape, paint it a blueish off-white, and then add some Vallejo water on top for the transparent touch.
Any suggestions on how to do this much better/easier?
21. May at 10:10:51
Spanjaard cool idea... you could take some thick fiber glass or so, to make the "arches" and then cover them with something (mix of white and transparent), thin in the begin, thick at the end..... but i have never done anything even close to these

Glenn . You always get funny looks if your a dude and you buy nail polish. I choose it then i get my girlfriend to buy it! :)

Glenn, tomorrow is mother's day. Instant excuse, even when there aren't any kids!
12. May at 11:11:54
Glenn . Oh thanks for reminding me about mothers day i almost forgot! I wonder if mother would like a "model kit" ? :)
12. May at 11:17:21
Spanjaard i guess the finish is quite glossy and hard to the touch, right?
12. May at 11:32:49
Łukasz Gliński Interesting, I always thought they are classic enamels (the Humbrol kind) and would never think of thinning them with the Gunze stuff. Thx for sharing :)
12. May at 11:43:45
Martin Oostrom Paint is really hard, supposed to go on nails ;)
I just mixed it with mr color as both smell nasty :D
Acetone could work better?
12. May at 16:10:31
Glenn . Acetone will melt the plastic! Be VERY CAREFUL!!!!
12. May at 16:17:16
Donald Dickson II Acetone could be an issue, but I dont think so if cut into the paint. Just try it on some sprue first to see hwta it does.

I have ordered polish from online to get the Mystic Chrome color for a 99 Mustang Cobra kit I have. Turns out it is a common practice amongst car guys to use nail polish as there are SOOOOOO many bright interesting colors. Which is perfect for cars. And perhaps the only way to get a match for some colors. Lots of vids on Youtube,

My sons third build. Well, he clips the parts from the sprues, I do the clean up, he applies the glue and I do the final positioning. #FatherAndSonTeamwork

Dave Flitton Nice start!!!!
01. May at 23:36:35
Peter Hardy Technically Spanjaard, subs are boats. So you haven't done a ship!

The Indy eh? A bone to be chewed! Look forward to seeing how Mini Oostrom puts up with your tantrums when you don't get the part positioned before the glue dries!!
02. May at 07:50:12
Martin Oostrom Welcome guys. I hope you packed some extra clothes, this might take a while. The attention span of Mini Me for modelling is rather short.

Pete, like every younger version of us, he just wants to glue everything together and be in his way to the next kit :)
02. May at 08:13:40
Peter Hardy You aren't telling me anything Marty, I have a half built German Destroyer I was doing with my Grandson. He now lives 1000 kilometres away. Thinking I might finish it later this year.
02. May at 08:41:59
Spanjaard ok Peter, i stand corrected. never done any other boat afterwards. i am sure Martin's son will do a much better job than i did back then with my Indy :)

Martin Oostrom My son might have caught the bug. After his Corsair he's building this P-51. He asked me to paint it as he thinks that's too tedious. So I freehand brushed the camo in German Grey and German Blackgreen on his request.
Just before bed he asked if we could do a ship next. Generous as I am ;) I let him choose between Mogami and Indianapolis. So, he'll be a Yankee shipbuilder in the future!

Marco Gallmann As I read your text I am smiling, because it was exactly the same to me as I started in 2013 again with scale modelling after more than 22 years. I started again with a similar Kit: Sopwith F-1 Camel (Revell 04190, 1:72)
Also the result was the same by me :) Now I learn more and more by every builded Kit. Cheers

Thomas Bischoff welcome back to the hobby! Looking at your F-89 build I see you are progressing fast - have fun!
14. January 2017 at 23:36:52
Martin Oostrom Thank you guys. Somewhere in the Pile of Shame, there's also the Fokker DR III, the Albatros, the RAF SE 2. All Revell 1:72, all were not done too good to begin with and are now beyond repair. A nephew of just 3 years old will do that in a minute.
15. January 2017 at 01:08:14
Marco Gallmann I have my models in the Showcase, even if they have errors and problems. So I can see my progress - more or less. The first was hand painted and the decals come off (no varnish or decal softener used). The second is painted with a cheap (crap) Revell Starter Airbrush Set and has a LOT too much color on it. But the first with varnish. The third is completly ruined due a irreparable building error. The fourth is painted with a good H&S Airbrush (which means nothing, because I still have to learn the handling) and the the first with weathering or rather with a washing - I don't have done a layer of gloss varnish prior and the result was a pain. Now, many many Kits later they all has a little error somewhere, but every kit is a step forward and have a place in the Showcase - as long as I have space ;)

But I can see that you have build a lovely F-89 Scorpion - well done :)
15. January 2017 at 01:48:01
