I have this in my stash as well, am actually thinking about making this my next project once the tug boat is finished.
06. March 2017 at 16:38:35
Okay, started this one. It seems I'm incapable of building two planes/cars/whatever in successive builds. I kinda need the change.
It goes together fairly easy. Tender was done in a couple of hours. How I'm going to paint it in two-tone livery? Not sure yet, lots of nooks and crannies.
The loc chassis was eay enough. The boiler is a two part piece. In my case with a small step: sanding. Some primer will reveal whether I left enough detail.
First ever train, by the way

I really need to find some way to decently paint the bogey and chassis. Lots of intersecting parts.

only one kit a barrel and two resin engines? were you ok? maybe was the lack of "external motivation"
26. November at 23:57:56
Yup. My regular companion and instigator wasn't with me. Something about 'other business' in Germany
27. November at 08:19:31
I somehow doubt you need Spanjaard's assistance to buy a carfull of boxed sprues!
27. November at 08:26:04
Ha ha ha. Believe me, I would have loved to be there!
27. November at 08:29:32
Peter, doubts? I'm sure martin is a real modeler with more cars in his stash than a man can build in a lifetime. Oh yes, he has also planes and ships in his stah. I don't understand why he's complaining about a lack of space for his Rodney. With all his boxes, he can build a desk big enough for the Rodney
27. November at 10:35:55
Now there's an idea Lode. But where to leave the new 'table'? Might not get the approval of mrs. Oostrom to put it in the living room

Hey Martin, just helping you to find a solution
. And want you to build that HMS Rodney. As for me, I found my scale. It's big. Just kidding. Rodney is fantastic to build. Let's hope the build will be fantastic

I made some but when i got home i saw the AWFUL quality of my photo's so I'm a bit worried to share them because they really don't do the models justice...
26. November at 16:48:57
Thanks for sharing Martin. There where so many models to see. I just had little time to take some pictures at the contest. As ESM team member and also taking my place at the IPMS south-west regional table not much time left to look around. I will share my pics with pleasure.

thats it...giving up modeling....its too depressing to bring up the rear in this wonderful artistic parade.

I wanted to depict an autumn wedding. The car is parked on some coloured grass with leaves from nearby trees falling on the car.
22. November at 21:26:49
Great Result Martin
But where is the white Lace on the Antenna?
22. November at 21:49:13
Daniel, get the **** outta here! Great comment though. Can I get away with "There wasn't an antenna included in the kit"?
22. November at 21:52:24
Brillo! What a great gift. Bravo, Mr Martin! Leaves are such a nice touch.
22. November at 22:07:37
All the other details are perfect Martin... I woul have been so happy about such a handmade present in that quality.
Nevertheless.. Tamiya becomes only 4/5 stars cause of the missing radio antenna..
22. November at 22:24:56
beyond my skills, mind blown
can you tell me the brand/color for the base... it's almost a plum color... very good
22. November at 22:39:35
Great job Martin, especially on the decals. Love it!
23. November at 00:07:40
really fantastic job Martin. a present to be proud of
if you want to do the antenna, a piece of steel wire can resolve that quickly... and some thin paper or silk could resolve the white lace
but i like it as it is now
24. November at 01:06:40
Martin, it is a fantastic build. This is so highly detailed and painted excellently. Top job, mate

I'll take 4/5 from you anyday Daniel!
Chris, the purple is Alclad Candy Purple over a silver base.
Greg, decals wouldn't have been possible without you, many thanks.
Tom, Spanjaard & Lode, thank you for the generous compliments.

I bought those prismatic colours from Alclad. Did a testrun on some spoons. First sprayed alclads gloss primer, then (almost immediately) the paint. I think I like what I saw, but does anybody know where the white mist could be coming from (pic 14)??
10. November at 12:51:05
paint reaction with plastic due to very thin primer? (it is just a wild guess)
10. November at 23:18:10
Looks to me like it's bloomed. Was it cold/damp when you sprayed?
18. November at 13:34:34
noooo pretty warm and dry around here in november, right Martin?
19. November at 01:20:33
Vinny might have a point. Wasn't it raining last weekend? I never remember something trivial like the weather

judging by the smell of most nail polishes, I would say Ethyl Acetate is the thinner you want....my girlfriend's nail polishes all reek of the stuff....not sure what it will do to your plastic ...... might be so hot you wont even need primer....give it a try (most nail polish remover are acetone free these days btw)

While the idea of the just married cans for the Mini is percolating in the back of my mind, I started this one. The Mini is for my youngest brothers wife. This will be for my other brothers girlfriend. Can't have the illusion of preference?
The body needed quite some sanding with 600 grit. As I will paint it with Alclad candy, I will need a smooth surface. The paint lifted from the polished Mini. Could a primer layer of Mr Surfacer 1500 add some bite to the silver base AND get rid of the sanding traces?
Penny for your thoughts!
15. November at 22:43:37

Given your experience with the Mini, I would say give it a go. Try it on the hood separately. That way if it doesnt work out, it will be easier to strip off.
16. November at 01:49:05
I agree... because it's probably not the best idea to have to include a "Just Married" sign on the car for the girlfriend...
16. November at 02:05:06
Geeze don't you just hate it when Don is right?
16. November at 03:20:23
Thanks Don. Instead of the hood, I'll abuse some plastic spoons. Much safer!
You're right Greg, the girlfriend isn't a fan of the institution called marriage. Don is on a being-right-spree this week. Just check Michaels ZM phantom thread
16. November at 08:11:17
Oh Gawd, twice in a week? The man is insufferable at the best of times. There will be no living with him now!

My left cheek. All of you, kiss it! LMAO
Martin the only reason I didnt suggest spoons is that the plastic is different and may not have the same final result. Though I imagine it would be close.

13. November at 21:15:16
Haha it's all good. Based on my current build pace, I have projects planned, in order, until about 2035. Sadly, I am being completely serious there (I'm weird in that way)... LOL So two more builds before you get to this is no big deal.
13. November at 21:39:44
I have projects planned in order as well. I just change it whenever it is time to start something new
Moods change and I'm very flexible…. Perhaps the Mrs thinks otherwise

I do flex projects in and out sometimes as well, depending on my mood, buddy builds, group builds, or theme contests at my IPMS club. So that way I can keep if fresh, despite planning so far ahead lol.
Great minds think alike! :-D
