Yes Guido. It will be a Dutch version. Compleet in orange color, with the dutch lion on the fins. 🙂 🙂 🙂 I have always build WW1 and WW2 planes. This year it will be differently.

Kees Kleijwegt
Now that's for something completely different!😉
Nice subject, a 25. It's big... and fast.... and brutal
6 January 2016, 09:04
Martien Lourens
A monster....🙂 The conversion set is the cockpit and reccon nose set from Pavla. The reccon mig 25 RB/RBT has an interesting camouflage scheme.

Dank je wel Melf. Voor je Nederlandse aanmerking. 👍

Holger Kranich
Hey Martien, you are aware that it dont has a prop? 😄
6 January 2016, 10:37
Martien Lourens
Thank you Holger. It's good to have me alerts about it. I was thinkin already I missed something. And it also does not have Dutch recognition marks. Fortunately, I have some old props parts and dutch decals here . With a little bit scratch building and imagination. It looks like a Fokker T 5. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
6 January 2016, 11:36
Bart Goesaert
nice build so far. I've thought this one had a lot of them propellers in the engine? 😉
6 January 2016, 12:17

21 January 2016, 20:04
Cristian Bordina
I follow with interest 🙂
22 January 2016, 07:44
Bart Goesaert
did you do this with a marker? aren't you afraid of the ink bleeding through the paint after time?
22 January 2016, 08:57
Martien Lourens
Yes, Bart I made it with a Edding marker. It is a test. So I will see what happend.
22 January 2016, 10:03
Kees Kleijwegt
Maybe you can isolate the ink from the paint? Not sure what to use for this though. Maybe a laquer of urethane based clear?
But it's a great idea which i want to try in the future! Suggestions anyone?
22 January 2016, 11:33
Stefan Schneider
Every attempt I came across so far failed due to bleeding through. Would be great to find a way how to avoid that.
22 January 2016, 12:53
arne vd burg
Tamiya sells paintmarkers with enamel paint they have all the x and xf colors. I got 1 from hobbylink japan but havent us3d it yet .

Martin I've tried this with Sharpies and I've had quite interesting results with it as a cheap and easy preshade. I did find however the ink can rise through the paint if your not careful though.

I found that "wetting" the ink with Vallejo airbrush thinners the ink would blend and soften the edges, add a cotton bud to get streaks into it and generally remove some of the ink.

I then give it another coat of Vallejo primer to the point where it is just wet at which point the ink starts to dissolves into the paint and blends & softens looking more natural etc. actually you're probably better off doing the ink straight onto the plastic, easier to paint and you only need to primer it once 🙂

Then I leave it for a good few days at least, a week or two preferably, in a warm room to let the ink really lock into the primer otherwise fresh paint just reactivates the ink and it starts rising through again.

Anyhow, this just what I've found using this trick with what I've got paint wise etc. 🙂
Hope it helps, cool idea though and it is a neat simple way of preshading 🙂
Someone ought to come out with a modelling friendly preshading pen you can smudge about a bit 🙂
22 January 2016, 17:30
Martien Lourens
Thanks Choppa for your advice. I have this idee from some builders on scale aircraft on facebook. So I thought give it a try.
22 January 2016, 19:06
Choppa Nutta
You're welcome 🙂
must be said that not all inks do the bleed through thing but a test before any more painting to confirm might help 🙂

Anyhow, yeah it's a nice trick 🙂
22 January 2016, 21:16
Glenn
Maybe pre-sealing it with a clear varnish/sealer might stop further bleeding??? Before airbrushing over with the final paint??? Has anyone tried that???
23 January 2016, 08:27
Martien Lourens
I have sprayed a thin layer of grey Mr. Color paint. It is not bleeding. So I start with the camo.
23 January 2016, 14:45
Clifford Keesler
I use sharpies to pre shade my models all the time, and never had a problem. I especially use this methoed on models with raised panel lines. I am going to try and pre shade my current F-4 with the airbrush. A first for me.
23 January 2016, 18:50
Choppa Nutta
what paints do you use Clifford ?
as I've had bleed through with Sharpies and I've found they need a little careful management etc.
23 January 2016, 19:01
Clifford Keesler
I use vajello acrylics and Model master acrylics. If I use enamels, I use a little less thinner and apply it in thin coats, allowing about a half hour to 1 hour between coats. I do not prime the model. I rub it down with alcohol before I pre shade it with the marker. I use the fine tip sharpie markers. I have found the larger tip ones will bleed through. I use the larger tip red on the edges of the gear doors on my navy aircraft, I do this last after all is painted and clear coated, and it has worked well (the red). The other I paint, apply my clear coat (future) decals more future to seal decals, weathering then dull or satin finish,or another coat of future if it is NMF.

Thanks mates for the nice words. About 30% of the plane is painted. Still 70% to go. After painting I will start with scratchbuilding the missiles The mig 25 RB used Kh-58 anti radiation missile
26 January 2016, 09:03
Scott Dutton
How did you mask that, so intricate
26 January 2016, 11:41
Martien Lourens
@Scott Dutton. No masking. It is all freehand airbrush.

Martien Lourens
Thanks mates. But still a lot of airbrush work to do.
26 January 2016, 22:12
Martien Lourens
@ Guido. Yes your right about the pre-shading. First I have sprayed some grey paint over the pre-shading to seal the preshading for bleeding. But Edding is not bleeding. Now the preshading is almost gone. Pity of the pre shading. but we will happily continue with it. 🙂
27 January 2016, 00:11
Choppa Nutta
preshading on a cammo that complex was always going to be a challenge though, great camo btw 🙂

28 January 2016, 09:16
Bulldog Scale Models
Really How you do that at 1/72. do you use masking of any type?
28 January 2016, 09:25
Martien Lourens
Thanks mates for the kind words. @ Antonio: I dont used mask. It is all freehand. I used a Rich 0,2 airbrush pistol without aircap. But be careful. the tip of the needle is now no longer protects. Without the aircap you can made very thin lines. First I sprayed the stains coarse on the plane with a lot of overspray. Then I edit every stain with diluted paint. (50% paint and 50% thinner on Mr. Color paint) with a pressure of 1.2 bar. And it takes a lot of time. The upside is done in 4 hours.
@Rob: For you it must also be no point. you've been taught by Marrisa Oosterlee. 🙂🙂I have been taught two years by Peter Evers.
28 January 2016, 10:10
Bart Goesaert
nice info. I tend to work with a much lower pressure (0.8-0.9bar), but it's all a habbit and depending on the paint. Removing the aircap is something I do frequently, but I also tend to point my AB to the "centre" of the spot to avoid overspray. But your painting skills are a bit (large understatement) higher then mine... when I look at your FB-page...
28 January 2016, 10:16
Wim van der Luijt
great stuff Mart....I couldn't spray freehand to save my life....very impressive
28 January 2016, 10:17
Martien Lourens
Thx Wim, Bart. You right. Airbrushing is also experimenting with paint and pressure. I described it the way I do it. Fortunately, there are more roads leads to Rome 🙂 And I like to share my experiences. And also learn from others.

Thank you guys. It was my longest project I have ever built. But it has paid off. I am very satisfied with the end result. it was certainly very instructive with etch and resinparts and scratch build. On to the next project. It arrived this morning, the Zvezda MiG 29 (9-13)

Very nice! Looking at the images I don't see much filler in place. Is the kit really that good?
19 March 2016, 06:31
Martien Lourens
Thanks mates.@ Cristian Lupu. Yes, I dont have used filler on this plane. Everything fits perfectly on this kit. For years I have also build the Hasegawa Mig 25. According to my opinion the ICM kit, far better.

Good to know this ICM model is so good. I didn't know this scheme for this plane. Very nice one
