Now that's what I call a nicely build tomcat. Excellent work. BRAVO
9 April 2016, 17:54
Choppa Nutta
nice !
love the photoshopped pic at the end there ! 🙂

vanishing points don't quite line up, camera on the plane needs to be raised another 3 or 4 inches when you take the photo,
the effect is still very good though ! 🙂
nice idea, I'm knicking it !! 😄
9 April 2016, 18:48
Christian Ristits
Thank you Mats, Marko and choppa! I also like the composing, my Cousin did it just for fun within one hour...its amazing That the model looks so realistic on the Deck, although it's a little bit wrong placed 😉
9 April 2016, 20:49
Choppa Nutta
I forgot to say what a great build too !! 😄
and sorry, I was being ever so fussy, I'm an artist and I can't help it😉
Your cousin did good work, and in short order too !! 🙂
9 April 2016, 21:03
Christian Ristits
You are very welcome choppa, and your hints are much appreciated!
9 April 2016, 21:07
Choppa Nutta
offset vanishing points are a really difficult thing to judge though.
for jobs like this I like to have 10 or more photos to choose from that go from too low alway the to too high so I can be fussy about selecting the right angle etc. all very fiddly etc. 🙂

10 April 2016, 07:44
Rex
That is a pretty nice job your cousin did for you, especially in only one hour. One question, was the Tomcat's shadow part of the photo you gave him to work with, or part of his effect work? I ask because that shadow is almost the only giveaway that this is a model, and not a photo of the real thing.

Oh, I should add a tip here for you,,,,,,,if you are worried about getting the angle of the aircraft easier to make correct, next time, take a photo with the "right" angle already in the choices you send, that will make it easier to choose one to work with.

But, that looks great,,,,,,,,and is a great idea for displaying a finished model. Anything that makes people have to think about whether it is a model or a real jet is good,,,,,,it is a goal we are after sometimes, right?
10 April 2016, 08:02
Christian Ristits
Thank you Michael!

Rex, thank you for all that feedback! Yes, the shadow was from the model-picture. It was really just for fun, a spontaneous work 😉

It is off topic, but if you want to have closer look to my cousins work, here is his website: gerald-scheinecker.com/

Cheers, Christian

Rex
I was just thinking of something. If your cousin started with a crop of that photo, and printed it on cardstock,,,,,,that would make a cool display base.

He is a fantastic photographer, I just looked at his page. Pass a "pat on the back" along to him when you can. (LOL, so that he can say "Who the heck is Rex??"
10 April 2016, 10:05
Christian Ristits
That would be cool, also as a background for further photos maybe...
10 April 2016, 10:10
Lex Jassies
A beautiful build of a wonderful plane!
10 April 2016, 11:13
Choppa Nutta
... Christian, your cousin certainly knows how to present himself ! Very stylish and professional ! 🙂

Just to dig into this a little deeper 🙂

Rex, for an off the cuff photoshopping it is nicely but regarding taking pics with the "right" angle, very difficult to judge, especially if your floating the image over the background so you can adjust accordingly. One needs a series of photos of increasing angles. 🙂

When setting up a photo shoot for a photoshopping you also need to get the light at the right angle as the shadows are also in the wrong place because the studio light isn't in the same place as the sunlight.
These need to be matched up to get a seamless composite, also means the highlights and shadows on the model will be in the right place, see photo for working out correct lighting angles 🙂

Also take the photos on a mid gray background to match the colour of the deck so the radiosity lighting effects are similar to that of an aircraft on deck, also handy for cutting out the canopy if the background colours match up etc. Ideally one would set this up for a daylight shoot and wait for the sun to lower to the right angle etc.

Anyhow, those are my thoughts on the angle of dangles, hope it helps 😄

Rex
Yes, Choppa, that is why I was thinking of Noon,,,,,,,then the model light could come in from the top.

For a base that one guy would have to be cut out in the cropping,,,,,,,,he'd be flat on the part the model would be placed.
10 April 2016, 13:27
Christian Ristits
Thanks guys, very interesting!
10 April 2016, 13:43
Soeren R.
Awesome work!
10 April 2016, 13:47
Choppa Nutta
the sun is off to the right not from above, more like half way to sunset 🙂
yeah as you say, you would need to crop it to get the full effect.
if you print out the original picture and use it as a base to get the composite in one hit you're going to need to stretch and taper the image to correct for the perspective error you're going to get by laying it flat as is.

Has anyone got a link to the original photo please ?

I quite fancy having a go at playing around with this idea myself and it is a great photo to do it with ! 🙂
10 April 2016, 14:05
John Thomas
Very nice
10 April 2016, 14:05
Christian Ristits
Thank you very much Soeren and John, glad that you like it!
@Choppa, I will send you a PM
10 April 2016, 16:54
Rex
Choppa,,,,,,,when I said Noon, I meant to use a photo taken at Noon,,,,,,not that this photo was taken at that time
11 April 2016, 05:51
Choppa Nutta
haha, sorry Rex, missed that one 🙂
anyhow, yeah, photos at noon would make lighting the model easier for sure 🙂

13 April 2016, 07:00
Holger Kranich
Hey Christian, awesome turkey! What kind of wash did you use? Dark grey?
13 April 2016, 08:22
Christian Ristits
Thank you Arne, Martien and Holger! Yes, I used the dark-grey wash overal, for the exhaust I used the black wash.
Cheers, Christian
13 April 2016, 09:25
Christian Ristits
Holger, I have to correct myself, it was the dark DIRT Wash!
13 April 2016, 10:07
Holger Kranich
Thats interesting, Christian! Looks more grey to me😄
13 April 2016, 10:58
Christian Ristits
Yes it was definitely the dark-dirt...it was the first time that I have applied the washing with my airbrush, it worked very well and was less effort!
13 April 2016, 11:16
Holger Kranich
You applied it with your gun? Can you explain that a little deeper?Unfortunately you cant see the big grin in my face because some new ideas are actually popping up in my mind...😄
13 April 2016, 11:54
Christian Ristits
Hello Holger, I once saw that on the Flory-Models website...but never tried it...Just sprayed the washing like paint, without any thinner. It is really convenient like applying it with brush, only the procedure of removing the wash is the same 😉
13 April 2016, 13:13

Urban Gardini
Felix Rules! Great looking Tomcat mate, You've really done it proud with your build. Hats off mate!
16 May 2016, 09:22
Urban Gardini
The closed nozzle? Is that the ordinary kit plastic or have you sourced it from your spares? I was just looking through the resin on mine last night before I went to bed and noticed that theres only open nozzles provided in resin. By the way, I've really learnt as to why the *Turkey" usually have on closed and one open nozzle when parked!
16 May 2016, 09:30
Christian Ristits
Thank you very much for your nice comments Peter and Urban!
Yes, the closed nozzle is from the kit, I did not want to spend more money on it, and the nozzle looked ok for me 😉 I learned that the different nozzles with off-engines where only on the F-14A with the old TF30:

Thanks mate, you did read the word "never" that I thought that I wrote in my sentence but somehow forgot to write...
16 May 2016, 11:15
Bill Gilman
Very nice Cat! I love anything with Felix on it - a long running project of mine is to build a model of every USN aircraft type that had Felix artwork on it. It's a surprisingly long list of aircraft types!
16 May 2016, 11:53
Michael Hickey
Happy to be back thanks Christian.8)
16 May 2016, 12:01

16 May 2016, 15:36
Christian Ristits
Thanks again! Really cool project Bill, and as well very challenging!
16 May 2016, 15:38
Rex
Bill, when you get those done, do you plan to take a photo of them all in order and post it?
I like those types of chronology collections, and would really enjoy seeing that. Even a photo of half of them done would be cool, we'd just have to remember to allow for the gaps when we view it.
16 May 2016, 17:13
Bill Gilman
Rex - I will be sure to post some photos soon!
17 May 2016, 00:00

Thanks Clifford, my new B-1 decals turned up yesterday (Caracals "SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION)and I have a new idea for her, so I'm hoping to get her back on the bench soon.

CooL, I just received 23 Fujimi 1/48 Bf 109 G's from a good friend so I'll be picking those of on a regular basis to, as well as my 15 or so 1/48 Fw-190 I have at various stages of construction.
17 May 2016, 01:09
Scott Dutton
Sensational, the detailed painting you have achieved especially in the cockpit is just superb
17 May 2016, 14:16
Dirk Heyer
Very clean built and paint finish, excellent! The weathering is fine and subtle, and your paintbrush work on details points you have a lot of patience and consequence! That`s it what I like!
