17 August 2014, 11:51
Holger Kranich
Thanks Mates! This is since a long time a kit that motivates me a lot! The surfaces look superbly only the pe´s are more than made of steel!LOL
17 August 2014, 12:00
Holger Kranich
Guido, you have the kit yourself, dont you?
17 August 2014, 13:22
Philip De Keyser
Looking forward to this build, nice start Holger 👍
17 August 2014, 13:25

Looks good so far!
17 August 2014, 13:47
Holger Kranich
Thanks Mates!😄
I got the kit as a bargain at my plastic-dealer. So i needed to buy it! And i´m really happy with it!

Aghis Barberopoulos
This is a really cool subject, I am watching. 😉
17 August 2014, 14:29
Holger Kranich
Hi Aghis, i was full of hope that you find this thread😢
17 August 2014, 14:35

Took me a little while...it's the summer you know 🙂
17 August 2014, 14:37

Aye wie, des wird was schees! 👍
17 August 2014, 15:50
Holger Kranich
Thank you, Vorya and Jonns!
The decals on the instrument panel have settled under liters of Set and Sol. Now a little drybrushing and a small wash will be applied. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. But i like to do it this evening, i´m eager to get to the bench!
17 August 2014, 16:53
Bernhard Schrock
Die neue grosse Vitrine eingetroffen? 🙂 bin seeeehr neugierig! Auf dem Radar.
17 August 2014, 18:39
Holger Kranich
17 August 2014, 18:56
Ingmar Stöhr
Cool! Looks very interesting. I'm watching.
17 August 2014, 19:33

Marineflieger kommt immer gut.
Da bleib ich mal mit dran.
17 August 2014, 19:36
Mike Kryza
17 August 2014, 19:58
Holger Kranich
Thank you very very much, Chaps!🙂

17 August 2014, 20:14
Christian Meyerhoff
Einmal süchtig, immer süchtig... 🙂
Hau rein Alter!
17 August 2014, 20:23

17 August 2014, 22:51

18 August 2014, 06:15
Es-haq Khosravi
Nice job Holger!
18 August 2014, 07:07
Holger Kranich
Hey Essi, thank you!😢
18 August 2014, 14:50
Choppa Nutta
Yeah it really does look like a very good kit !! I've always liked the look of the Star Fighter.
I particularly like the fact it comes with photo ref (this should be standard for all kits I reckon 🙂 )
expensive though but quality !! no Yanky markings which seems strange given how many other countries are catered for in this kit, I wonder if they have a rebox of this kit with other versions ?
Anyhow, one does look forward to your progress 🙂

Holger Kranich
Very kind, Choppy!;)
This kit was even reboxed by Tamiya! This is the second release/Rebox:
F-104 A/C Starfighter (Italeri 2504, 1:32)

18 August 2014, 17:36
Choppa Nutta
cool. does that boxing come with PE I wonder ?
What a difference PE makes !!
I've used it for the first time on my latest Neglected Kit Resurrection, a 1:48 Airfix Spitfire, just seatbelts but even that little bit has made such a difference to the cockpit, I am now convinced of its value, fiddly though it maybe 🙂
18 August 2014, 17:46
Christian Lehmann
Hallo Holger,
18 August 2014, 17:47
Holger Kranich
Yes Choppy, pe´s enchancing this kit indeed and they are included in this kit. But enjoy them with care!
I never saw a pe-fret which was so thick like this! Its nearly thick a tenth of a centimeter pure brass! The small part are only to bend when you have a "Hold ´n Fold" because you cant bend them with your fingers or you risk a cut!!
You maybe noticed that i didnt used the Cockpit pe´s. The kitparts are more dimensional and 3D. The pe´s are flat like a female religion teacher!LOL😢

Christian, the longer i build this kit and the more i learn about its history and capabilitys, the more growes the fascination in me about this spectacular aircraft!
And a lot of my old builds ended up with a firecracker in its butt, not only at new years firework!😢😄
18 August 2014, 18:07
Choppa Nutta
"flat like a female religion teacher"
hahahahahhahahahhhahahahhhaaaahhaa !!!
I actually spat out my cream puff for laughing !!

Now if there is one thing that will rot your brain it's religion !
I like Dr House's analogy of it being like a virus, it's communicable and it kills a lot of people lol 😄
18 August 2014, 18:14
Christian Meyerhoff
Nice cockpit and dash board! This will be a beauty for sure!
18 August 2014, 18:30
Es-haq Khosravi
Nice Job Holger! Nice Kit as well!
18 August 2014, 18:36
Holger Kranich
The pit actually recieves the last toughes, i want it a bit more used... I applyed oil and enamel washes after a good load of future! and some buttons get painted although the F 104 didnt had a lot of colour in the pit when electricity was switched off!

Thank you, Christian and Essi!👍
18 August 2014, 18:48
Clifford Keesler
Looking great. Love the 104.
19 August 2014, 22:48
Holger Kranich
Thank you very much, Cliffy!🙂

I proudly announce: The pit is finished, so far!😄

Wow, I saw this giant box yesterday in the store...what a great model! Looks very promising Holger, I am in!
20 August 2014, 17:19
Es-haq Khosravi
Nice job!
20 August 2014, 17:35
Holger Kranich
Brandon, Christian, Essi... Thanks for your kind words and encouragement!👍 I appreciate that very much!

Actually i´m cleaning the main landinggear. There is a annoying seam of small flash all around it... The molds have seen better days although the kit is not old...
20 August 2014, 17:42
Choppa Nutta
Yeah Holger !! you are definitely getting the hang of this modelling lark 😄
20 August 2014, 17:53
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
ich bin entzückt! 👍 👍 🙂
20 August 2014, 18:07
Holger Kranich
Ha, yeah Choppy, i´m "crossing the t"!😢 (just kidding)
Feels good you echance my motivation!
20 August 2014, 18:08
Holger Kranich
Danke, Jonns! Macht Spaß, die Mühle! Wenn Du die F-104 magst dann hau rein!😄
20 August 2014, 18:09
Choppa Nutta
"crossing the t"!
ah but are you dotting the " i "'s ? 😄
20 August 2014, 18:17
Holger Kranich
You got it, Choppy!😢
20 August 2014, 18:22
Jonns Pfeiffenberger

20 August 2014, 18:26
Holger Kranich
@ Jonns; Dat watt nich fliecht, dat kriecht!😉
20 August 2014, 18:29
Jonns Pfeiffenberger

20 August 2014, 18:30
Christian Meyerhoff
20 August 2014, 18:32
Ingmar Stöhr
Holger, das sieht doch super aus! Da bekomme ich so richtig Lust meine gerade erstandene F-14 "last flight" anzufangen.
20 August 2014, 20:48
B
Does this kit come with nose weights?😉 for the price,it must.
20 August 2014, 20:51
Holger Kranich
Brandon you can srape the rest of the pe fret, it weights more than enough! Fortunately a F-104 dont need any noseweight...😢
21 August 2014, 06:18
Holger Kranich
Ingmar, Du baust auch Dinge die fliegen? In welchem Maßstab ist denn deine F-14?👍
21 August 2014, 06:20

Calvin Gifford
Very cool! I will be following with interest, as I want to pick up the USAF version!
21 August 2014, 19:09
Holger Kranich
Hi Ingmar!

21 August 2014, 19:19
Holger Kranich
@Calvin: As far as my progress is, i can tell you, this is a hell of a nice kit!Just some small but ever present flash is annoying me a bit... But i can solve that with work and ellbow grease and dont need witchcraft!😢
21 August 2014, 19:20
Choppa Nutta
all this German ! I feel so excluded from the conversation😉
21 August 2014, 19:21
Holger Kranich
Oh Choppy, you are still most welcome! If you like to join, i recommend the google-translator! (Just kidding😢)

But maybe you know, some particular questions can only be answered in your mother tongue, porperly...😄
21 August 2014, 19:28
Christian Meyerhoff
Well Choppa, we were just discussing the pros and cons about building Jets from the 60th and 70th compared to AFV`s in 1:35. My statement: No cons 🙂 Build them all! So fell wellcome to join the discussion!
21 August 2014, 19:29
Holger Kranich
Moin Christian, Dich sehe ich ja jetzt erst!😉 Tach!
Hi Christian, i just spotted you here!😉 Have a good day!

LOL
Choppy, maybe you wonder about the translation of : "Tach"
Yes some sentences in english just require only a word in flat-german language!😢
21 August 2014, 19:30
Christian Meyerhoff
Wieso das denn nun wieder ? 🙂
21 August 2014, 19:36
Choppa Nutta
shame I can't remember how swear in German, or least how to spell it out 🙂
Anyhow,
Ich bin kenst (I think) vertstehe du mich ?
and that was without a translator 😄
I did try and learn just so you know I made an effort 😄
21 August 2014, 19:46
Holger Kranich

21 August 2014, 19:48
Holger Kranich
Choppy, i dont use a translator, too. And i fear its recognizeable...LOL😢😄
21 August 2014, 19:50
Christian Meyerhoff
Jo, Holger... manche sagen auch Moin!
@ Choppa ( Only because people in northern Germany are too lazy to talk anyway) Tach, Moin... Howdy... all the same 🙂
21 August 2014, 19:56
Ingmar Stöhr
Sorry Choppa. I knew it was going to be a lengthy comment, so I wrote in German to be bit faster. Holger, you are absolutely right about the Tomcat in 1:48. As a boy I did build one from ESCI??? and it was huge! And I think I like these planes, because I build most of them as a child and have some nice memories 🙂 Like Christian said: Build them again with the knowledge and skill of today. I guess I have to increase my building pace 😉 and I have to add the F-111 and the B-1 Lancer to the list.
21 August 2014, 20:41
Choppa Nutta
Honestly guys, no worries, I am cheeky git who likes to stir things up a little bit, a lot 😄
I totally get it, sometimes it is just easier to speak without having to think about the spelling of every word 🙂
And yes Holger, ya bum does look big in that lol 😄😉

Anyhow, the Matchbox 1:32 Me 109 is one from childhood memory 🙂
21 August 2014, 20:51
Clifford Keesler
Looks great Holger. I am going to try the Hase 1/32 104 as the Iterali is a little to rich for my budget.
22 August 2014, 00:28
Augie
Ok, who has the pop corn?
22 August 2014, 11:30
Holger Kranich
Sweet or salty, Augie?
I have seen that Choppy is hiding some under his seat😢!
22 August 2014, 11:33
Choppa Nutta

Acki
23 August 2014, 09:58
Holger Kranich
Oh thank you all! You are all most welcome!
23 August 2014, 18:06
Holger Kranich
If time allowes, i´ll put the fuselage halves together, this evening. But i´m not sure what to take for this task... Extra Thin or Contacta...
11 September 2014, 12:40
Soeren R.
Nice project. Looks really good.
11 September 2014, 12:43
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
11 September 2014, 13:15
Holger Kranich
Thanks, Sören!🙂
I had a similar idea, Jonns.
11 September 2014, 13:37
Choppa Nutta
just to reiterate Jonns, you think Contacta is easier to use than Extra Thin because it doesn't dry as quick ? 🙂
I have yet to try this but I saw someone dry fit the fuselage and the run extra thin along the seem line presumably allowing capillary action to get between the seem. Though I am guessing a good fit would be needed, I liked it though, simpler, I will try it on my next model 🙂

Are Extra Thin and Mr Cement cellulose based ?
Just thinking of clean up
11 September 2014, 13:40
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
Choppa, that's exact what I had explained 👍
11 September 2014, 13:42
Holger Kranich
Hey Choppa,
i dont know if its cellulose based. And i actually did no dryfit at all. But when the fit is similar to the other parts, it will be more than a good fit!

My problem is that Thin dry´s so fast and i always use too much of contacta! LOL My fingers stick more than the fuselage halves, when i use contacta! 😄😄
11 September 2014, 13:45
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
have you das with the Nadel? Da kommen doch ganz kleine Tropfen raus, wenn man aufpasst
11 September 2014, 13:48
Holger Kranich
No Jonns, I nicht have that with die Nadel aber ich weis was Du meinst! LOL🙂
11 September 2014, 13:50
Choppa Nutta
awesome ! thank the magic teapot for Google translator 😄
though I couldn't quite get what Holger said, something about the end of a good fight ???
I had never pictured Holger as the quarrelsome type ! 😄
11 September 2014, 13:51
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
Choppa, Holger is a special type of north Germany. They're all a bit strange! 😉 😄
11 September 2014, 13:56
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
Holger, but then I would just take the extra-thin
11 September 2014, 13:58
Holger Kranich
I am not strange!😢
I am crazy and lunatic! And I insist to be insane! ROFL😉😄
11 September 2014, 14:13
Choppa Nutta
Crazeeey, over the rainbow...... 🙂
11 September 2014, 14:21
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
Sorry Holger you're not crazy, you're a Wangerooger, die sind so 😛
11 September 2014, 14:26

11 September 2014, 14:48
antonio coral
nice job! greetings from Colombia!
11 September 2014, 14:54
Holger Kranich
@Guido: Surely a good way to glue this long beast... I´ll give it a try and figure out what works best.🙂 Tomorrow you all know more!

Garry, Antonio: You make me courage!😄 Thank you!
11 September 2014, 15:02
Christian Lehmann
Hi Holger,
11 September 2014, 15:57
Gary
While the glue is still soft use clear tape cross ways to hold the halves together. It will streatch some also. I call it convincer tape. Gary
11 September 2014, 16:40
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
Hat es geklappt Holgi? Mit dem Kleben? Has it worked Holgi? The bonding? 🙂
12 September 2014, 17:49
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
19 September 2014, 12:00
Holger Kranich
And again, many thanks for the glueing hints! I decided myself to make it with Thin😢
19 September 2014, 12:01
Augie
dude... looking good... dont tell me your a fellow smoker?
19 September 2014, 12:23
Holger Kranich
Hi Augie,

no build without rolling tobacco!😢 Great to calm down or to make a break and have a look at your work!
19 September 2014, 12:56
Choppa Nutta
yeah having a gentle toot while you work, it helps to expand the thinking time 😄
19 September 2014, 13:12
Heico van der Heide
That's one big ass mofo!! Like what you did with the cockpit panel😉
19 September 2014, 13:50

19 September 2014, 17:59
Holger Kranich
Yep, its a big one her! And the tail isnt already attached!😢
22 September 2014, 12:38
Choppa Nutta
I watched a documentary on this plane and was surprised how low to the ground the early versions were watching the ground crew attending to it. Anyhow Holly how is ti progressing ? 🙂
22 September 2014, 12:44
Holger Kranich
There is progress but not much... I first have to recover from this weekend... A long and hard party... But it was great!😢
22 September 2014, 12:49
Choppa Nutta
sounds awesome ! may your hangover be brief 😄
22 September 2014, 12:51
Holger Kranich
My hangover is actually brutal and i´m working... I´m glad that its quiet here!😢😄
22 September 2014, 12:54
Choppa Nutta
more water, more aspirin and no heavy metal music for at least 24 hours as recommended by Doctor Chop 😄
22 September 2014, 13:00
Aghis Barberopoulos
Holger, I see you have fun in many scales! 🙂
23 September 2014, 16:29
Holger Kranich
Hey Aghis, scale doesnt matters to me as long i am having fun!😢
23 September 2014, 17:33
Holger Kranich
And i had the old revell one, this is some kinda nostalgia build!
23 September 2014, 17:34
Holger Kranich
Yihaaaww, the fuselage halves are together!
23 September 2014, 18:45
Christian Meyerhoff
Well done Mate! Looks like an excellent fit of the parts!
23 September 2014, 19:04
Holger Kranich
Thanks Chris!
Up to now my sandingsticks are mostly unemployed!😢
23 September 2014, 19:09
Choppa Nutta

a good fit by the judging of things 🙂
23 September 2014, 19:12
Christian Meyerhoff
Hest moi makt!
23 September 2014, 19:18
Holger Kranich
Yeah, Choppy the fit is not remarable but intermediate good! I have nothing to complain exept the flash on some parts!
23 September 2014, 19:27
Joseph Johnson
nice job on the cockpit.
23 September 2014, 19:27
Holger Kranich
Thx! Chris and Joseph!
23 September 2014, 19:32
Choppa Nutta
the fit on the spine portion looks pretty good though or have you tidied that up already ?
as for flash a little bit you can cope with but the amount of flash on my Airfix Catalina is driving me nuts as is the poor fit, so much for a rapid build, it's almost like a vac formed kit.. lol 🙂
Anyhow, nice to see some progress on the beast ! 😄
23 September 2014, 20:00

Holger Kranich
Good morning guys!🙂
No, nothing is cleaned up on that pix of the spine. Afterwards i just took a sandingstick and slightly rushed over the glue joints. There is only one spot that maybe needs some filler but thats nothing serious. (But i sometimes have the tendency to screw up things, i thought they are not serious!😢)

@ Guido: Sit back, enjoy and have a smoketime, you know why!😢
24 September 2014, 06:27
Joseph Johnson
your very welcome.

7 October 2014, 13:45

7 October 2014, 13:53
Choppa Nutta
haha I'd rather spend the money on 1:32nd scale F104 😄
7 October 2014, 14:01
Holger Kranich
Good idea, Choppy!
7 October 2014, 14:09
Clifford Keesler
The Hasegawa one is cheaper than the new Itarelia one, but has raised panel lines, which isn't bad if you feel like rescribing the whole model. But the new one is out of my price range for the time being.
7 October 2014, 14:28
Holger Kranich
Cliffy, i only bought it cuz it was a discounted bargain😢
7 October 2014, 14:40
Clifford Keesler
I would of done the same thing. It sure is looking nice.
7 October 2014, 14:46
Joseph Johnson
yea it is an expensive kit but it may go down in price eventually. but it is looking really good Holger.
7 October 2014, 16:34

its not really that expensive... one stop at the local gas station for my car is equally priced...so... lets buy this beautifull "sargnagel" 😄
7 October 2014, 20:06

Hobby town has one right now for 107.00 dollars to me that is expensive.
8 October 2014, 05:28

And please convince my boss that i dont have to work so much!😢😢
8 October 2014, 11:05
Jonns Pfeiffenberger
Holger it is autumn, because no tourists will come, so you have time without end to work at the station desk on your model
8 October 2014, 12:05

8 October 2014, 21:51

Guys, i can not believe that the frontgear can tackle the weight of the finished model... But i cant also believe that i can change it to a scale aircraft conversions metal gear... It seems to be VERY fragile...
9 October 2014, 07:09
Bill Spargo
Love this machine, you are doing a great job Holly, cockpit looks great. Very impressive.
9 October 2014, 09:47

26 October 2014, 18:54
Christian Meyerhoff
Holger dat ward wat!!
26 October 2014, 19:05
Martien Lourens
That will certainly become a beauty.
26 October 2014, 19:22

Thanks for your confidence, Martien! I invest blood, sweat and tears!😄

26 October 2014, 21:01
Holger Kranich
Thanks, Edgars!
I need to add a certain amount of lead in the nose! Actually it is a tailsitter!😢 But its already a hevy weight model...Let alone the tanks on the hardpoints, they weight more than a 1:72 Bf-109! LOL😉
26 October 2014, 21:01
Kerry COX
Your "Missile with wings" is certainly a brute Holger and I am wondering. Does anyone make a metal set of wheel struts for the 'Starfighter', because in the 1/32 kit by Hasegawa, I had metal as standard issue. !
26 October 2014, 21:08
Holger Kranich
Martien, you are right! The "Norm 38" camo looks very good and i love this scheme! But this time some naval stuff needs to be done! Its my personal hommage to our navy crews!
26 October 2014, 21:17
Edgars Bizūns
I suppose that you can find some metal structures for it. I'd simply heat up some lead and make the nose cone out of it overall. Just take the nose, put it in some fine grain plaster and make a form of it, then take in out when dried and put it the hot lead or tin in it. After it has gone cold, take it out and glue on the fuselage.
26 October 2014, 21:17
Holger Kranich
Edgars, i have to be very careful with adding weight! The front gear is kinda fragile...
26 October 2014, 21:19
Kerry COX
It's all wobbly at the knees eh ? 🙂
26 October 2014, 21:21
Dirk Heyer
She looks very nice so far!
Keep on and have fun!
26 October 2014, 21:26
Choppa Nutta
The front wheel is less of a worry than you might think with regard to weight bearing strength etc.
It is the main wheels that will be taking almost all the load because the centre of gravity will be very much closer, all the nose weight does is move the CG forward of the rear wheels and it only needs to be 1mm in front and it will sit properly and thus the nose might only be supporting a few grams of weight....

Anyhow, butt-on mushroom 😄

26 October 2014, 21:26
Holger Kranich
Wobbly is the right word, Kerry!

Thanks Dirk!!! 🙂

I know Choppy, but study the breakdown of the frontgear and calculate down to 1:32, this 104 is "Wobbly" on its frontgear... But i´m convinced that the gear will tackle it!
26 October 2014, 21:32

Hows the hangar construction coming along Holger? Seeing how far you gone in your building , it is nearly time to house it in the hangar. Love the instrument panel. Cockpit really looks good, well done.

29 October 2014, 09:04
Holger Kranich
I added some pe airbrakes but i´m not sure to leave them or change to the styrene airbrakes... The pe´s fit well but lie very deep and the styrene brakes make a smooth surface but dont fit very good... I dont know what i should do... But i think i switch to the styrene ones...

By the way, i used the Uschi van der Rosten "Ca-ndle" yesterday for the ca application. Works really fine!👍
CA-NDLE glue applicator (Uschi van der Rosten CA-NDLE, No)

CA-NDLE

29 October 2014, 09:13
Kerry COX
Holger, The PE air brakes sit deep you say, well, would it be possible to glue in some really really thin strips of plastic sheet just inside the recess where the brakes come to rest, so that the strips are like a "lip" or 'ledge' so that the PE brakes don't go any deeper than the lip lets them, keeping the PE "flush" with the fuselage when closed. Wow, that sounds as clear as mud, but I reckon you get my drift yes ?
29 October 2014, 09:56
Kerry COX
Do the styrene ab's look "To Scale" or are they too 'thick' ?
29 October 2014, 09:57
Holger Kranich
Yes, i got ya! The styrene looks good to scale but the rivets on the pe look better... I´ll try to let them "come up" to let it look more smooth!
29 October 2014, 10:31
Kerry COX
Cool mate, I was not too sure if I made sense there, but thanks for letting me know Holger. And by the way, our Summer is just around the corner and we have bush fires roaring across the land all ready, ! and I do believe this will be our hottest Summer ever. Gaaaaaaaaah !!! More BEER ha ha. 🙂
29 October 2014, 10:37
Holger Kranich
You have it hot and dry and i have it wet and a bit cold. And the first stormflood was last week

But you are really living in a funny country. Weather is extreme and flora and fauna is toxic and poisenous like hell. And if its not toxic, it will bite you!
Yes, state this too, more beer!😄
29 October 2014, 10:42

Paul Hogan was originally a painter on the Sydney Harbour bridge and began his "life" in entertainment as a stand up comedian on TV, ironically called, "The Paul Hogan Show. and he played the part of the Aussie Gobbo, or the "Typical" Aussie with the heavy "Strine" accent, talking through the nose type of accent and he wore a sleevless shirt and had Zinc cream all over his nose with a Terry towling hat, and strangely enough, all of Australia just love him.
29 October 2014, 13:47
Steve Wilson
...
And I watched it every week😄 What happened to his mate though from the Hoggy Show???
29 October 2014, 14:00
Kerry COX
Who, "Stropp" ?, well he moved to Byron Bay and bought a pub, or rather, turned the old railway station into a pub and married Delvene Delaney, the dumb blond who was also on the show. !!!! "keep a dancin' Maria" LOL
29 October 2014, 14:06
Steve Wilson
...
As you know so much about him🙂!!!
Does he really have a twisted mouth or did he put it on for the show???
29 October 2014, 14:11

All for show, in fact, he was hogans manager and promoter, a smart business man
29 October 2014, 14:12

I guessed it, but wasn't sure!!! Didn't know the other stuff you mentioned...

Hey! Holly stop copping the stropp, you can have your thread back when we've finished😢

Guido, have a look at the last three pics, there is an update!😢
29 October 2014, 15:15
Kerry COX
It seems to be not quite 'flush' just yet Holger. Am I right. ? And sorry about the 'off topic' I will use PM to do that in future. 🙁
29 October 2014, 19:27
Holger Kranich
Hi Guido, no i wont build them open. It destroys the silhouette, i think! But the eduard set provides the speedbrakes. And they are a kit in the kit!🙂

Kerry, no worries, but PM is the better way😄
30 October 2014, 08:41
Kerry COX
Post some shots of the AB from Eduard too mate, you have my attention. 🙂
30 October 2014, 08:46
Holger Kranich
I´m still undecided... The pe´s look mighty fine but will take me 8 hours for sure! And no one will see it on the model... But now i´ve got an idea! I just sand the styrene parts a little bit down and glue the pe on it! Ha! Heureka!🙂
30 October 2014, 14:17
Kerry COX
Exactly, and that idea seems to me, to be a logical one. It's all in getting the 'Look' right, and the remedy is not all that hard. Just make better use of what is at hand yes?.
30 October 2014, 16:22

Soeren R.
Looks really great 🙂 Hopefully I will be on this level someday... right now Im to afraid of starting because I know it will be bad....
31 October 2014, 19:29
Aghis Barberopoulos
It is my opinion that the panel lines on the fuselage top are too wide and too deep. I would rather fill them up, smooth them down, then retouch them lightly with a pencil prior to painting. Using different paint tones and dirt would show well, even if there is no scribing. I say this because re-scribing over filled panel lines is not easy.
31 October 2014, 19:35
Aghis Barberopoulos
Just to add an alternative idea, the entire fuselage top can be covered by thin metal sheet panels: note close ups of the real thing, all the panels are two-dimensional - hence easy to make and detail. OK, I know I can be a perfectionist at times...
31 October 2014, 19:47
Holger Kranich
Aghis, you perhaps think like the guys from eduard! The exterior set provides pe for this problem!
And i will not overdo it, in this case... The molds are obviously mature enough to get changed!😢
31 October 2014, 19:58
Aghis Barberopoulos
OK, I didn't know that, but glad that I hear it! 🙂
1 November 2014, 16:17

Holger, How sweet it's looking now mate, but I didn't realise how deep the panel lines were until the close up of the spine. But delightful all the same mate. 🙂

Holger Kranich
Thank you very much guys! I appreciate your comments very much!
I really have to admit that masking the clears in this scale is such a joy! Much better than in 48 & 72! LOL

Yesterday it was so boring in the office that i took the 9(!) parts of the starboard wing tip tank with me, to assemble them whilst work. Nearly no clean up was necessary and just minor sanding was required!
18 November 2014, 08:47
Edgars Bizūns
Nicely nice masked canopay! 😄 🙂

Edgars, Martien: Thanks guys, you are cool!

Kerry, no i never had this stuff in my hands, i just heard rumors about it!😢

Guido, yes this is really big, bigger than i expected and i had a 1:32 F-104 in my youth! I assume it will be longer than my ...

Yes Kerry, its not the way i dreamed about but it will work!🙂
19 November 2014, 14:32

Hehe...

Looking very nice Holger! I have one now also. I am trying to decide which version I will do, but am leaning toward the German one, I like the color scheme, and I saw many of them while stationed in Germany.
13 July 2015, 01:00
Holger Kranich
Oh, you´ve been stationed in germany? Where have you been here?
I go with the Marine version as i love the scheme😢
13 July 2015, 08:21
Clifford Keesler
I was stationed at Wiesbaden, Just outside of Frankfort. I was in a Chinook company (CH-47) so I was all over the country. Plus I traveled a lot in my car on weekends.

Lauri, the pe´s that come with the kit are bloody bad and feel like chunks of steel... The rest is the fine stuff from eduard.

Gareth, Choppy: None of you will be bigger than mine... 😄😄😢 And Garteth´s Tomcat is phucking cool, just like your stuff, Choppy!

haha I was thinking what might be the most appropriate song for this moment ...
obviously I dismissed "Anything you can do I can do better" as it's too narcissistic 😉

So I settled for this one instead 😄 haha 😄

Which scheme are you doing? I am going to do the German one.
28 February 2017, 18:37
Holger Kranich
Me too Cliffy. I´ll make it a navy "Marineflieger". So i have to create a clear and straight Demarkation line between gray and White. And believe me or not - this is the first time i try that. 😄

Album info

Here are the first pics of my new build. The Italerie F-104G in 1:32. A nice kit, so far. Just a bit flash on the molds, nothing serious! This particular aircraft will get the markings of the Marineflieger Geschwader 2, as provided from the 2 large decalsheets in the box. Decals are from Cartograf and perfectly printed and HUGE!🙂
