I type JLC Libor Kopecek it comes out:
JLC Libor Kopeček WHY??????
4 March 2014, 19:52

Hi Tim,
depending of the alphabet used, names are strangely diplayed.
Example: Sergei Isayev ( )
appears as Scalemates member like this:
СЕРГЕЙ ИСАЕВ
*
I think it's the same problem like Steve reported. Same applies for names of some Polish, Russian and Chinese Scalemates (e.g. ).
4 March 2014, 20:26

Hey! Frank...
Nicely spotted!!!👍
I never noticed that. Wake up Steve😄
4 March 2014, 20:33

hello tim, all links to websites on my "About me" open in the same window of scalemates. would it not better that they are opens in new windows or tabs?
4 March 2014, 22:37

Any reason, why the avatar picture in "My profile" moved from left to right and left a black space on the left?
4 March 2014, 23:15

bizar, I need to check cross browser. I put a temporary fix which I somehow even seem to like
5 March 2014, 05:58

In Album descriptions " ` " turns sometimes in and " ? " like: it´s -> it?s
6 March 2014, 15:13

@Fabian: thx I'll check
@Guido: sorry I did read it while on the road but forgot to reply
1) if you mean advertising banners, yes they are opening in same window by design (=Google)
2) Yes that is an inconsistent behaviour. Will fix
6 March 2014, 17:34

@Guido: fixed the filter so it has the same behaviour across books/walkarounds. Meaning, the filter does not have any effect.
6 March 2014, 18:56

Fixed bug which was already mentioned a few times in the past. Sometimes when adding a book to your stash it would show a "kit" in your newsfeed. This nasty bug is no longer present! 🙂
6 March 2014, 19:46

Hi Tim,
we can add stash info like "Buy", "Store", "State" to the kits in our stash. Will this information also pop-up in the exportable stash list (e.g. Excel) in future?
Wouldn't it be nice, if others could see at least the information "State", when I put a kit "For sale"?
6 March 2014, 20:23

?Model sets? should be listed just after "Full kits" and not at the bottom after "Masks" on a product list.
6 March 2014, 23:03

BTW: I didn't put the question around Model sets. I wrote quotes. I looks like a problem with copy/paste from Word.
6 March 2014, 23:09

Sometimes when I correct the size of a logo, it doesn?t show correct/change after save. The size properties is changed though, but not the logo itself. I?m using Chrome version 33.0.1750.146 m. It dosen?t help to restart the browser. But if I open the page in IE10 everything is okay.
Edit: CTRL + F5 seems to do the job.
6 March 2014, 23:10

The "Add topic" button is very hard to find. It should also be on every product page.
6 March 2014, 23:11

The "Manage stash" button is to hidden on the product page. Sometimes you have to scroll a long way down to find it.
6 March 2014, 23:14

When you add two kits from the same year, the first one added is placed first on the timeline. Look at Eurocopter EC135 ADAC (Revell 04659, 1:32) and Eurocopter EC 135 The Flying Bulls (Revell 05724, 1:32). They are sorted wrong on the timeline.
6 March 2014, 23:16

"I wrote quotes. I looks like a problem with copy/paste from Word." => Yes, problem identified. Will fix!
Logo not refreshing: is it logo of company? (it is a browser caching issue, we had similar problems on other pages and there I placed a fix by renaming the file after uploading. Seems I haven't done it everywhere)
7 March 2014, 06:39

other items: great suggestions. Will provide update as soon as fixed.
7 March 2014, 06:43

Yesterday it was a Site logo I corrected and had the refresh problem. Previously I have had this problem while correcting Company and Shop logos too. No sure if they still have problem.
7 March 2014, 08:33

Word quotes are now checked and replaced by standard ones (in comments/Wallposts)
7 March 2014, 16:21

the "Manage stash" button is to hidden on the product page. Sometimes you have to scroll a long way You want to have 2 buttons or 1? If I move it to the top and you look at the "stash" section you can not edit your stash 🤔
8 March 2014, 20:06

Why not group the buttons together.....after all the "who has this in stash or wish list" part of the page is just an overview.... It's not seeing the people the people that makes you want to add a kit....so why not have it right up there with edit and merge or maybe even above as it's a separate thing and make it the first you see
8 March 2014, 20:54

Creating the new gallery in the project - I tried today to upload pics to the new gallery, but the "Save&Upload" button appeared only after the webpage refresh (using Chrome and Win7).
8 March 2014, 22:04

@Henrik, Guido, Wim: Please have a look at the current solution for stash management
1) When scrolling down to the "stash section" you can immediately take action without having to click on manage stash
2) When you are on top of the page you now have a shortcut to the "stash section"
I think this covers all the aspects you mentioned. let me know what you think 🙂
8 March 2014, 22:11

"View full thread" does not work, you can never see the extra characters
9 March 2014, 07:55

Hi Tim,
when looking at "Visiting your forums" in my profile, I see several mates mentioned 2 or 3 times. Why? Bug or feature?
9 March 2014, 08:36

@Henrik: I fixed the timeline issue. You can now adapt the YEAR of a kit with 2 extra digits. eg. 2013Q4. This allows you to modify the order of the timeline for kits released in the same year.
Eurocopter EC135 ADAC (Revell 04659, 1:32)
Good to know:
- By default if you just put the year it will first show "new tools", next reboxings. (nothing changed, so in most cases the default behaviour will be ok)
- The extra 2 digits will not be shown on the timeline itself nor on the product info pages. So 2014xx will still show as 2014
9 March 2014, 09:42

QUESTION:
What does Q4 at the end of 2013 mean??? what's the benefit???
9 March 2014, 13:32

@Steve:😉
Quote: "This allows you to modify the order of the timeline for kits released in the same year." Unquote
9 March 2014, 13:48

So 2013Q1, 2013Q2, 2013Q3, 2013Q4...
Would be the order of release for the same kit in that year, if so I understand...
9 March 2014, 14:33

2014Q1 means 1. quarter of 2014. But as I understand it, you can use aa, bb or something else. But Q1, Q2, etc. is probably just what makes the most sense.
9 March 2014, 21:33

The current system allows a lot of flexibilty relative order when time is unknow but order is. Since order is the essence, I favor retaining the current system. I ve used combinations many times to adjust relative positions of kits on the timeline.
10 March 2014, 01:08

@Phil: the current system remains as is, no need to favour it 🙂. This exception is ONLY to be used in case the years are known AND a "new tool" is released after a "rebox of an older kit"
10 March 2014, 06:34

I ve been following the instruction of only one new tool per timeline werein the subsequent new tool is a( new) related product only. I back pedal up farther back on this thread meanwhile.
10 March 2014, 13:27

It is not 1 new tool per timeline, it is one new tool per year of the same producer (in 99,99% of the cases)
When a company introduces 3 variants of a new tool in the same year. Only the first kit is a new tool, the 2 others are reboxings.
10 March 2014, 13:50

Tim, I fully understand the multiple variants in the same year.
If it is not one new tool per timeline then your instruction need revision. Taking the Airfix B-17 for example , the timeline is extensive with multiple brands and tools. I thought the intent was to show the variations of the 1962 tool so one knew a new box was was not a knew kit. Had they at some point issued the 1962 tool with an E/F body and same flight surfaces I thought that was new parts. The "new" G thus was on the Acedamy timeline with new parts due to the tail options n but not an independent new tool.. The Hasegawa and both old and new Revell were merely related 1:72 products with separate timelines but visible as related products in that separate section. I am wrong about the intent?
10 March 2014, 17:03

I don't know:
Have a look here: This is a PERFECT valid timeline. With a new tool in 1985 and a new tool in 1996
Panavia Tornado Marineflieger (Revell/ceji 4761, 1:32)
This is also a PERFECT valid timeline. With a new tool in 1995 and 2013
EC 135 "Polizei" Meck-Pom/Bayern (Revell 04428, 1:32)
Nothing has changed here. The ONLY thing we did was adding the possibility that the "New decals" kit of 2013 is shown before the "new tool" of 2013. As the 2013 "new decals" kit is based on the 1995 kit and not on the "new tool" from 2013
That is it, nothing else changed. in 99,99999999% of the cases all stays the same as was x days ago.
10 March 2014, 17:28

If you don't think the above timelines are valid than your logic is wrong, if in your logic it are valid timelines than it is correct 🙂
10 March 2014, 17:30

ps: feel free to remove the Q4 marking from the new tool in 2013. You will see what happens. This kit will visually be linked to the new tool released end of 2013, while it is linked to the older toolings. Eurocopter EC 135 The Flying Bulls (Revell 05724, 1:32)
10 March 2014, 17:44

This is a WRONG timeline, 2 kits released at the same time and where based on new tools. However on scale mates only 1 of them is considered new tool, the other should be marked as a rebox. AH-1S Cobra (HobbyBoss 87225, 1:72)
10 March 2014, 17:52

Tim, I understand the Quarters are a refinement within the year to order version releases within the year. I understood that from the start. What my comment addressed was retaining the current wildcard system and you clarified that. I can t comment on your two examples because I am not familar with thoses kits and I don t comment when uninformed. I re-read the timeline instructions an see that it says a kit can be based on only one new tool. I mistook that to mean one new tool per timeline. Sorry for the confusion. I am still unclear if the Academy based Airifix B-17 belongs on the 1962 Airfix/ Craftmasters/ US Airfix/ MPC multibanded timeline; or the Academy as an Airix band/row; or both.
10 March 2014, 17:57

sorry, yes the wildcard system can still be used! (the refinement changes nothing here). Yes correct. The reason of that remark is that some users link the kit to ALL previously released kits (which does not make sense). We link it to one older kit. Here is an example what I want to prevent: EC-135 Heeresflieger/Army (Revell 04465, 1:32) ? it shows multiple "based ons"
10 March 2014, 18:01

If this links as intended, it is an example of a scrambled timeline. Changing Topics can alleveiate some confilts but that violates the topic rules regarding F-14 vs F-14D.
1914 Stutz Bearcat (Dyna Model Products 20011, 1:87)
10 March 2014, 18:21

The Revell band is correct the Hot Rod is the" based on" parent. If fact the parts for both versions later were packaged together by REVELL, Revell Germany; Minicraft and Dapol all under the Highway Pioneer series. These are indepentent of all the others. The Monogram kits are debatable but acceptable and internally correct to themselves. The Aurora Sedan is fine. The Aurora hot rod coupe I can t address (if it has common chassis parts). All the remained are the same tool over 55+ years and should be linked. I don t know how to fix this example. The 1:72 B-17 is similarly a mix of tools.
10 March 2014, 18:34

In the contributor page you have the option to correct "Missing Decal info" but it only shows the first 30 kits (AAI to Blackburn). When someone like me has too many in the stash and can't solve the first 30 one's, then you have to check the rest one by one and go through the whole stash.
15 March 2014, 21:35

Thx, Tim. Please check the Life Color UA range. I guess the correct art.no is "UA nnn" but there are some "UA0nn", "UA nn" and "UAnnn" too that need to be reorganised. Also Xtracolor X209 has a double. Any plans to put up Xtracrylix?
15 March 2014, 23:41

When adding aftermarket items, you can only select one topic for the product, but in fact the product may be for use on multiple kits--for example, decals that have several different subject on them. As a result, there are many aftermarket products listed that don't refer to all of the subjects they cover. Here is one example:
Rattling Sabers (Wolfpak Decals 72-065, 1:72)
I think it would be a good idea to allow linking to multiple subjects.
16 March 2014, 01:15

@Lucas: Thx Lucas, on the roadmap but not top priority (as it adds a LOT of extra complexity). One thing I can say is that adding "decal options" wil be part of the solution. So the kits we have including decaloptions the better 🙂
16 March 2014, 07:51

Nasty bug fixed: When an aftermarket set was designed for a specific product family it was shown on ALL kits of the family (=good) but not on the "first" kit of the family (=BAD). This is now fixed 🙂
16 March 2014, 08:45

Clicking the green arrow will now immediately show the "stash" section and no longer the "actions" tab. I assume this will make stash management easier. Don't remember why I didn't do it like this in the first place. (currently only for kits, will make consistent with books/paints when I didn't get any complaints 🙂 )
16 March 2014, 13:06

That's a good fix--one less click to add items to the stash. And good to know that the ability to assign multiple topics for a product is on the "to do" list.
16 March 2014, 13:24

Tim, I can't find the "share" (stash pics as background) button. Is there another way now? 🤔
16 March 2014, 14:43

seemes to me that setting filters in while searching in the market place section has no effect... just me or a bug?
got the point.. kits are hidden tough, just not the market place options...
19 March 2014, 18:07

Don't know if others have noticed this, but some kits that should have timelines displayed do not have them show up on the product info page. Here's an example:
VF-1J Valkyrie (Hasegawa 65702, 1:72)
None of the kits related to this one have the timeline show up on their product page. It's odd.
23 March 2014, 19:33

Sorry--I had the wrong link. I edited my post to provide the correct link. The problem when you've got multiple tabs open...
23 March 2014, 19:47

Ah ok, this can be decided on the "topic" level (by me). In case a topic is too generic I don't show the timeline as kits are not always related. eg. "world war 2 - German soldiers" will not show a timeline
23 March 2014, 19:52

eg. this kit DESTROID PHALANX (IMAI B-1227-300, 1:100) belongs also to "Macross"
23 March 2014, 19:53

Ahh, I get it. Any chance of creating sub-categories in that one category to clean things up a bit?
23 March 2014, 20:02

So in Lucas' example, the topic would change from "Macross" to "Macross, VF-1 Valkyrie"?
23 March 2014, 20:13

Tim, if you have more than 6 identical items in the color stash, it is impossible to manage the 7th and 8th item because of the 'add color' field.
Can you please fix this? Also, is it possible to create a single field for every single color that you want to manage? Because it it not easy to keep track in which color field you're working if you have many the same...
24 March 2014, 15:05

Here's one I stumbled on. Large images in the vendors section make it impossible to edit the vendor in question to, for example, reduce the size of the image.
scalemates.com/sites/site.php?id=670&m=edit
24 March 2014, 23:09

Tim, I had suggested in a different thread three changes to kit content section:
A) change PLASTIC sprue To Plastic parts...the real intent. Early kits had not sprues and wood kits have plastic parts.
B) add a block for "Base or Stand"
C) add "Plated parts"
Over the years B or C distingushed issues.
25 March 2014, 00:13

what about reversing the timeline? So newest kits shown first. In case of long timelines you are interested in the newest items anyway?
25 March 2014, 16:40

Luc B...My understanding is that is were "related products" full kits comes into play. However the timelines, I believe is to show that, for example, An Airfix Hurricane is a 1963 rebox; a 1986 retool Or 2014 retool as apart from a 2014 1962 tool reboxed. That is what I ve assumed. In that realm, the forward makes sense. Perhabs what is really helpful would be broad banding of related products by decade. That would have the advantage of infering canopy and decal sets would have been designed for kits of and era even if not specifically labeled and classified as such.
25 March 2014, 17:29

Everytime I type a euro sign I get a questionmark both on my home and work PC ?????
1 April 2014, 10:13

before pressing save they show as euro signs after they are questionmarks
1 April 2014, 10:13

In the decal option unit oranization, the drop down menu still gives US ARMY AIR FORCE. That never existed. Hap Arnold commanded the U.S. ARMY AIR FORCES (pl). Can this be fixed by global find and replace? Then option for singular deleted from menu?
1 April 2014, 10:24

How does one search the data base for decals by topic? I see paint and references books but not decals.
1 April 2014, 11:04

If I search for "Mirage III C" it only finds a few kits, but if I search for "Mirage IIIC" it finds a whole bunch. This is because they are entered as IIC and not as III C. But the search function should be able to find all Mirages III C's anyway. I don't think that spaces should be relevant in the search function. Even "Mirage 3 C" should give the same result...
1 April 2014, 11:30

while editing an Album (adding pics, eg) the project drop down menu is set to default. so after saving the album its no more attached to the project it was linked before.
1 April 2014, 13:12

Correct Fabian! I encountered the same problem but I didn't know exactly what was happening😉
1 April 2014, 16:59

On the "Contribute" page under Anti-spam there is an error - "Some ant-spam health checks..." Should be "Some anti-spam..."
2 April 2014, 05:51

Tim
Why do I get an asterix in d*ckiedoo but it's not in his name???
That's taking censorship too far!!!
2 April 2014, 06:20

Union and Confederate Infantry Set (IMEX 603, 1:72) is showing up under Civil War Airships but should be figures.
5 April 2014, 04:56

eurosigns are still showing up as question marks on all my devices
5 April 2014, 07:50

On holidays, Tim? If there's one person, who deserves it, it is you!
Enjoy your holidays and thanks for all your efforts working on Scalemates!
And thanks to your wife for her patience and understanding!😉 👍
5 April 2014, 08:26

I need to update my email address, but it doesnt allow it. Why cant we change it?
5 April 2014, 14:37

When adding colour ranges to a shop location, there are no results visible unless you save changes and switch the shop page to the "View" mode (Google Chrome).
I have problems with adding more than one colour range too.
6 April 2014, 16:44

@Fabian, Guy: The issue with editing the album and resetting the project is fixed. Sorry for that one! must have cause some frustrations.
6 April 2014, 18:49

@Steve: Swear words were removed, this was programmed on "day 1" but a quick check on how much it was triggered makes it not really useful. Also a lot of the times it did too much. Eg. Wessex would turn into Wess*x
6 April 2014, 18:53

@Phil: "How does one search the data base for decals by topic? I see paint and references books but not decals." ... not possible at this moment, it will however be possible in next version of the search engine! (currently being programmed). Thx for the suggestion
6 April 2014, 18:54

@Phil: bulk corrected 298 entries of "US Army Air Force" to "US Army Air Forces". Thx!
6 April 2014, 18:55

@Fabian: "seemes to me that setting filters in while searching in the market place section has no effect... just me or a bug?" Yes, this is a bug. Will fix!
6 April 2014, 18:57

Thank you. But now a Civil War balloon is showing up under Figures: Intrepid Civil War Balloon (AMT T-571, 1:57)
6 April 2014, 20:32

I just signed up, created a project and added some colors which happen to be wrong. I can't delete them from the project. Am I missing something or it's a bug?
6 April 2014, 22:57

When I click on completed, it says on my wall added to stash
when I add to wishlist it says added to stash
can you fix ???
I noticed a few people with the same problem
13 April 2014, 14:37

If you add a new product via " Add based on", the shop prices of the old product are also taken. Example: Pz.Bef.Wg.III Ausf.J (Dragon 6570, 1:35)
13 April 2014, 15:25

you sure? I just checked, and my code does not copy the shop prices. Please do it again and give me the "based on" as well as the original
13 April 2014, 16:18

StuG.III Ausf.G (Dragon 6578, 1:35)
test (Dragon 9797, 1:35)
test 2 (Dragon 9798, 1:35)
Hmm... it is oviously more complicated. It definitivly happend to me, and it happened with the befehlswagen ( not my work).
edit: found it Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.L Late Production (Dragon 6387, 1:35)
13 April 2014, 16:38

@HK: Matching happens based on Productnumber and company name. Even if the "shop synchroniser" runs just at the moment where you click on. Now if you change an existing product where the matching was already done. This can happen. I know that some people to remove double overwrite the double with another kit
13 April 2014, 17:34

What did you mean with "edit: found it"... that kit 6387 seems to have correct shop entries?
13 April 2014, 17:37

When you go to "Edit Activities" on your profile, it will erase all existing activities, in all categories, so you have to reselect everything, or else you end up with nothing at all once you hit Save.
13 April 2014, 17:41

Tim, Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.L Late Production (Dragon 6387, 1:35) has double Sockelshop entry because it started with the wrong one due to " add based on".
13 April 2014, 17:55

is there a reason for getting outlogged while still being on the site?
just happened to me, as I wanted to add a comment ( "Invalid request" )... Comment was gone, and I had to log in again...
13 April 2014, 20:04

I still have several projects with a framework for an album but for months I get a " not logged in" when I try to add pictures. You gave me suggestions to try a while back but it still happens. ( It will happen on all projects build from STASH on a given day and stay block "forever" it seems.

Today I've got e-mail notifications from some threads even if "Enable or disable email notifications for following events" setting "New comment on your post or on a post you participate in" isn't (never has been) ticket in.
14 April 2014, 06:46

@Phil: working on it right now! does it happen with all projects or just a few? The first where you get it provide me with "Album" and "Project" please
14 April 2014, 18:00

@Jan: Very strange, as I didn't touch that code in ages. I will verify off course. Could you forward me the email please? (tim@scalemates.com)
14 April 2014, 18:01

can´t really tell... just happened ocassionally. I let you know if it happens the nex time...
--
This is still listed as Decal options misssing. Ticking just "Wood" doesn´t remove it from the list. but ticking Plasik does... simply extend the "product is categorized" to the other possible materials...

14 April 2014, 20:16

Take a look at "Hersteller unbekannt" bei scale-rotors.com/kit/hersteller/473-.html
You have to check the manufacturer cross references between the sites
ex. scale-rotors.com/kit/artikel.php?id=4429 vs. Mil Mi-14 Bundeswehr & NVA (Lüdemann-Modellbau , 1:72)
16 April 2014, 18:05

When I export my stash to CSV, some kits appears in Excel with eg. 0,0916666666666667 in scale instead og 1:72. This only happens for some kits. Most have correct scale. If I then use the format brush from at correct scale to the wrong one, the scale changes to 02:12:00 (Displayed as 02:12)

17 April 2014, 00:38

When adding price to an item in the stash the price 5,50 is saved as 5,5 and 12,00 as 12.
17 April 2014, 00:44

@Henrik: I'll check for CSV issue and see if I can force Excel to threat it as "Text" and not make a calculation.
17 April 2014, 05:53

I'll adapt pricing as well, I have the code for this but it is not yet implemented on stash pricing. I'll fix
17 April 2014, 06:15

The x in the closing button on the member pop-up box you get when you hover too long over an avatar is not in the center of the green button.
18 April 2014, 00:01

Hi guys,
Seems like almost everyone is using the country code DR for German kits when adding decals. This is not correct!
The country code DR represents Dominican Republic! So MANY German vehicles & airplanes in the database are now displaying the Dominican Republic flag in the decal options.
Unfortunately, when you add decal options and enter the code DR it says Deutches Reich in the presented known options list, which is also not correct.
The proper country code for Germany is DE, which stands for Deutschland.
I will correct this wherever I encounter this mistake but that is one HECK of a job, since there's a TON of German vehicles & airplanes containing this error! 😮
Maybe there's a way to correct them all through the website's admin interface or by using a properly formatted SQL REPLACE statement from the back-end.
I don't think there actually are any kits that represent vehicles / airplanes from the Dominican Republic, are there? So the REPLACE should (could) be simple enough?
20 April 2014, 05:24

@John Van Kooten Here you have some from Fuerza Aérea Dominicano but they're not yet completed with all markings and countries. Mustangs I (Aztec Models 72-014, 1:72) Vampire (Aztec Models 72-041, 1:72) de Havilland Vampire Mk. 1 (J 28 A) (Marivox LE-1, 1:72)
20 April 2014, 06:34

Yes, but like you say, none of these have decal options (yet). So they wouldn't be impacted by doing an SQL REPLACE of country code DR for DE. Because it concerns decal options only.
And honestly, if the choice is to have the German decals wrong or the Dominican Republic decals wrong (after the SQL REPLACE), I would certainly know what I would do😉 because I think it's a tiny bit easier and faster to manually correct the Dominican decal options compared to correcting the gazillion German decal options in this database.
But this is not up to me. Tim has to decide and tell us what to do with this 👍
20 April 2014, 06:47

One problem is to keep it unpolitical when flags, countries and governments come and go, countries get divided or formed. I think you have to need a time era code to solve getting the right flag for the right era.
20 April 2014, 07:09

These two letter country codes are internationally regulated, so I don't think we need to come up with a new system.
Otherwise you will get conflicts like the one we have right now, e.g., Drittes Reich vs Dominican Republic. Both would have to be country code DR but the internationally regulated code for DR is still Dominican Republic. And the system Tim is using in the back-end is no doubt automated to make use of this regulated country code system.
So it would be like opening a can of worms to change that to your own liking 🙂
I think the system as it is works just fine. People just need to use the proper codes 😉
20 April 2014, 07:14

There is a problem with the kit database and german umlauts ( ä, ö, ü). The umlaut and everthing, which comes after it, diappears even after correction. For example Sturmpanzer IV "Brummbär" S..I. Serie (Dragon 6500, 1:35), which should be BrummbÄR. The strange thing is, it doesn't happen to every entry.
20 April 2014, 07:55

@John: Thank you, yes DR was created for Deutsches Reich. I didn't notice there was Dominican Republic. So I will find another code Deutsches Reich, as indeed DR is for Dominica Republic. (I can bulk fix)
20 April 2014, 08:56

@Tim: Thanks!! And good thing you can fix them in bulk! 😄
@H K & Tim:
concerning the special characters:
I know this is problematic when text gets copied from, f.i., an Excel sheet or Word file.
Whenever you use an application that auto-replaces the "-sign when you type it with a character, the program replaces it with the special character from the current character set. This character set is usually set in the operating system or specifically in the application.
If we go with the Word/Excel example, by pasting the Word/Excel text directly into the field on the website, this character will be translated to a different character because a different character set is used. The problem is that this translated character may not be supported by this website / database, which results in text getting cut off at the "unknown" character, in this case the ä character.
The best way to avoid such problems is to not copy & paste this type of text with special characters from Word or Excel files but instead actually type them in the fields. for instance, use ALT + 0228 (on the numpad, with the NUMLOCK key ON) to create the ä character. That way it uses UNICODE which is pretty much supported anywhere.
Character sets are a real MESS in computerland! There are, f.i., UTF-8, UTF-16, UTF-32, ASCII, ASCII-II, Extended ASCII and a whole army of legacy character sets, some of which are ANSI sets, some not. And every country that has special codes also has its own ASCII character set (Germany, UK, France, China, Russia, etc. etc.). Like I said, a real MESS!!
But maybe there is an easy way for Tim to make the website accept more character sets or use PHP REGULAR EXPRESSIONS to convert characters when entered in fields😉
20 April 2014, 09:05

@John: We support UTF-8, issue here is not that the ü in general is not supported (this was always the case), there seems to be a situation where it is not. Could be a bug in my code (doing decode/encode/convert characters in wrong order)... @HK: When you have the issue, does it disappear only in the title? or also in the type group field?
20 April 2014, 09:09

@John: Iso2 code for Dominican Republic = "DO" and not "DR" countrycode.org/dominicanrepublic and here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1
20 April 2014, 09:14

Yes, but according to NATO (obsolete), FIPS, WMO and LOC MARC the DR is for Dominican Republic and DO for Dominica (which is something different) 😉
en.wikipedia.org/wik..y_codes:_D%E2%80%93E
Confusing stuff! 😛 LOL
It looks like the website is using one of the ones I mentioned above because in the German WWII kits the DR codes translated to the Dominican Republic flag (or some other flag? It actually doesn't look like the Dominican Rep. flag). As you can see here for example: Sd.Kfz. 2 kleines Kettenkrad w/Püppchen (Dragon 6114, 1:35)
But yeah, ISO2 is the best way to go I'd say! 👍 😄
20 April 2014, 09:29

eumh, that is the correct flag for DR. Here is the one for DO [img1]
20 April 2014, 09:33

Hahaha, well, as long as we know what code to use for German WWII items and get the correct flag for them, it's all good! 😄 👍

I know I've said it a few times but,
I can't add my Béhance models... :/

20 April 2014, 10:21

well you were, but behance now switched again their templates 🤔
20 April 2014, 10:33

@Tim: I saw this yesterday and corrected a lot of entries. Later I saw that all had reverted. Btw. now it says that this product does not exist ( if I click on the link in this thread). Clicking from my stash works, but is still Brummb.
20 April 2014, 10:52

I am off correcting 🙂 If anyone finds something suspicious, PM me. I try to translate stuff to english like schürzen to side skirts etc. .
20 April 2014, 11:09

Ah, okay, I did try to add these multiple times, but it never worked😉
Thanks for letting me know nonetheless Tim! 🙂
20 April 2014, 11:15

Tim, it is Brummb again Sturmpanzer IV "Brummbär" S..I. Serie (Dragon 6500, 1:35)
20 April 2014, 12:50

"Morane-Saulnier MS 760" seems to be listed in the props category but it is a jet.

How can you deselect a club? Once you have selected one the system does not seem to allow going back to be a member of "zero" clubs.

Hi Tim,
several Humbrol colours are doubled. For example:
- scalemates.com/colors/color.php?id=5198 and
- scalemates.com/colors/color.php?id=2543
- scalemates.com/colors/color.php?id=5199
- scalemates.com/colors/color.php?id=671
Colours with Humbrol 240 and up are obviously doubled. The only difference is the MATT in the name, but the colours are the same.

thx all! I'll fix them asap! I'm currently at Bernd's "Morane-Saulnier MS 760" issue
24 April 2014, 06:30

Hi Tim, with some kits I can't create an new project. the error message is "not logged in". For example this kit 1965 Ford Galaxie 500XL (AMT 723, 1:25)
24 April 2014, 07:25

Jan H. I guess you have to separate the Xtracolor (Xnnn) and Xtracrylix (XAnnnn) range. I put up all my Xtracolor some weeks ago and now they all are under the label Xtracrylix. You have to reinsert Xtracolor as a company and check that the logo pictures are correct to each company.
24 April 2014, 07:27

@Jonns: Thank you, the issue was found (a nasty little bug on my side which was only triggered in special cases and which generated a wrong error message adding more confusion). The same bug on another page was also the reason why Phil had issues adding albums to projects. This is now fixed!!!!

Searching for kits from AFV-Club isn't working properly (or at least, it's annoying the way it does). If you do a search for, f.i., "35S38" you will find nothing. But if you do a search for AF35S38, you will find the AFV-Club kit.
It is like this with all AFV-Club kits I have tested (which are MANY). You MUST include "AF" or you will not find an AFV-Club kit.

26 April 2014, 10:29

@John E: Fixed
@Fabian: Fixed
@Vic: Colors are now visible when looking at projects! thx for adding RGB values
26 April 2014, 17:40

@John Van Kooten: This is by design. If we do a "like" search on all data on scalemates you will get way too many results on many of the searches.
26 April 2014, 17:41

That's true, I understand 👍 Just something (for me) to keep in mind then 🙂 no problem. Thanks Tim 👍
26 April 2014, 17:44

I've turned off ad-block for scalemates and it still doesn't helps. I'm using Mozilla Firefox, same story is on the Internet Explorer.
28 April 2014, 14:59

It seems that your font style is messing the page ... if I turn off the the function where I let the page to use its own font style then it's everything OK but this influences for every page and that's a difficulty for me because each page has it's own design, so I don't want to "standardize" it. So ... any idea how I could change the font style only for scalemates?

@Tim, found a problem with the search-box. I tried searching for "Ferrari 641/2" (with quotes!) and got this as a reply:
Searching for "ferrari 64 filtered in scale 1:2" didn't return any results.
It seems the "1/" in the search string causes the algorithm to think it should use that for the scale.
30 April 2014, 12:04

Hey Tim, great catch! yes indeed. when it detects 1: or 1/ I assumes you added a search filter. I'll improve the check. (must have a space before the 1/ unless it is the start of the search string)
30 April 2014, 13:16

Still no certain resolution for me then? This is how the temporary solution works for me:

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and guess what the problem could be.
Are you using Internet Explorer Luka?
5 May 2014, 00:31

Can you recreate the problem on another browser like Firefox or Google Chrome or SRW Iron which is basically Chrome but with Googles spyware stripped out?

11 May 2014, 16:37

I agree with both JohnnyO and Tim V.D.
I'd also like to be notified of new photo's😢
11 May 2014, 16:59

I like the idea of a notification for new pictures too!
My "For Sale" section doesn't list the books I have in my stash "For Sale"

Mmmh, if it comes together on the general email about notifications, I'd also support JohnnyO's request. If it would be a separate email, I'd say no...
13 May 2014, 16:25

I would even go a step further: I'd like a notification when new pictures are uploaded, and NOT every time someone has to say something in the thread. I will read the new comments when the new pictures are there anyway...

Something i have found that is still a problem. Some people are still inserting kits that contain multiple different subjects in as "Full Kit" instead of "Model Set". When it is adjusted to Model Set then the items listed as "Full Kit" are no longer shown when you view that item. Here is an example World Rally Cars (Airfix A50101, 1:43) and clicking on any of the other Model Sets will show Full Kits listed

@Dirk: got the same problem with this: Wooden Ladder (RB Model 00714160, 1:35)
the entry on the contributers page is showed as long as the kit isn´t "marked" by the code as "completely filled in". this happens only when plastic, brass or resin is ticked (I guess), but not when it´s a plaster or wood kit.
2 June 2014, 11:14

@Fabian - Bingo ! I klicked the checkbox "plastic" and the kit disappeard from my contribute page. So it really looks like a kit isn't "completely filled" when e.g. "plastic parts" isn't checked.
@Tim - Could you please change this ? I guess there are a lot of diorama kits like houses which are made only of plaster, not of plastic.
2 June 2014, 11:24

Its ok to leave plastic parts uncheck if another material is checked so the fix would be other if the tereis no block for the substance.

Can we also have a time-line for the snap-tite kits? A lot of them are reboxes of older kits, but with an altered coloring or marking(s).
4 June 2014, 10:29

And for the boxart, maybe a few more fields showing e.g. the sides of the box? Sometimes these have additional info that can be usefull?
4 June 2014, 10:33

good call Günther, esp. on figures the rear box would be interiesting...
maybe we could add an extra field for a link to the instructions aswell, which are quite often as Pdf out there... Which would be quite helpful for comparing PE sets or kits without reviews

Scalemates.com doesn't work very well on my Android mobile for some reason, it works for a few minutes and then it keeps asking me to restart, whatever that means, as though it has lost the connection and won't allow me to explore further or type in the replies. No real biggy for me but does that count as a nitpicking ? 🙂
12 June 2014, 21:07

no I don't think so but when I hit "Restart" it just skips out of the browser altogether. When it happens (almost always) I get two options, "Wait" or "Restart", if I "Wait" I can't do anything other than scroll up and down.
My phone is a HTC Desire C if that helps.
12 June 2014, 21:26

this does happen on other sites aswell I guess? Basicially your mobile "chashed". Got the same problem on my quite old Android aswell, has not really something to do with th site you´re on...
12 June 2014, 21:40

Actually on my phone it doesn't, not like this anyhow, sometimes pages time out for some reason but only occasionally, this error seems unique to Scalemates.
Anyhow it's not a biggy for me though it is handy to look up stuff when on the move etc. If no one else is getting this and it is just me I wouldn't worry about it. 🙂
12 June 2014, 21:56

mhh... we´ve got both a quite simmilar hardware and I´ve got this kind of behavior on almost everything, apps, differnt sites, everything...
12 June 2014, 22:06

Maybe put catalogues under books instead of being under products?
13 June 2014, 06:35

If the purpose of catalogs is to find products then I d put it where it functions best to that end.
13 June 2014, 17:28

I'd agree they need to be put under books, they are reference material, not products
14 June 2014, 20:53

Hm, 2 different planes - one (wrong) Name?
Searched a special mig-27 Kit, and couldnt find it. Perhaps better to separate?
15 June 2014, 08:05

to my knowledge the Mig-27 is the ground attack variant based on the Mig-23. Also companies use the same moulds to create both Mig-23/MiG-27 variants.
15 June 2014, 08:10

A couple of things spring to mind for the picking of nits 🙂
When I do a Kit Database search for models by make, model and then scale it is usually ok but sometimes I get "no results"
For instance when I type "ESCI T55 A (M) 1:35" into the Kit Database search I get "no results" even though the model is definitely in the database...
T55 A (M) (ESCI/ERTL 5045, 1:35)
Also, when sifting through old notifications etc. it would be nice if the title of the thread or the first few words of the opening sentence were in the box next to left hand column of who has replied to a post and the dates etc. which are listed down the left hand side of the screen but there remains a nice big space next to them that could be used for a little more info on what the thread is about, is that a nitpick or a suggestion ? I don't know 🙂
15 June 2014, 18:10

Hi Choppa,
it depends on how you input your search criteria. Most times it is best to start with the proposed topic followed by the other criteria like I did here:
scalemates.com/search-solr.p..35+ESCI%2FERTL&qs=Search
(You need to copy the whole link, since it does not work correct in the newsfeed.)
15 June 2014, 18:30

Hi Tim,
some more input - when you look at above posting, I added a complete link. However, it is interrupted starting with []
15 June 2014, 18:33

@Choppa: I agree with your comment, the new search engine will fix this issue and you will have your result as expected using the exact string you typed today
15 June 2014, 18:34

@Frank: if you edit your post and save it again the link will work
15 June 2014, 18:38

yeah that didn't work for me took me to a search tips section which is handy though.
Cheers though Frank, I see what you mean now, so it is best to search model, scale and then make as in - Tornado 1:72 Revell as per the suggestion of the search tips and yours.
regarding links etc. it would be nice if the links were displayed as one has actually typed them and then for the funky magic to happen showing pictures or youtube links etc.
15 June 2014, 18:39

@Choppa: that was just fixed, my program was not able to recognise a link containing []. Now it does, have a look at Franks link again
The new search engine is not yet available, need to wait a few more weeks.
15 June 2014, 18:41

Hi Tim,
sometimes when posting a link, some characters are exchanged with smileys, which disables the link.
Example:
google.de/search?q=t..fficial&tbm=shop
15 June 2014, 18:55

sweet !! 🙂
Nice one Tim, great that you make such a nice effort with this site !
Btw, what do you think about the idea of including the thread title within the notifications listings ?
15 June 2014, 18:56

Hi Tim,
just another one in Beta.
I was looking for Humbrol colours. In the overview nearly all colours say "transparent", despite the sibngle colour shows "solid".
scalemates.com/search-solr.p..&q=humbrol&qs=Search
15 June 2014, 19:21

Can someone tell me the difference between the two following kits?
I don't see the difference on the box.
Messerschmitt Me 262 B (Hasegawa 852, 1:72)
Messerschmitt Me 262 B (Hasegawa 852, 1:72)
16 June 2014, 12:06

yes Günther, the first one has a blank space between the 262 and B 🙂
16 June 2014, 12:24

I think that someone has not found the kit and created a new,
Now, the kit is twice in the database, with more or less information. I think we need to merge together
16 June 2014, 13:15

Yes indeed, it looks like a reboxed rebox (1985 and 1987). And since the description says "changed box only" in the 1987 version, I think the image of the boxart here on ScaleMates may be incorrect for one of them?
However... it's too late anyway😉 the entry for the 1987 version (second link) has been deleted already.
16 June 2014, 13:30

in the second link were specified decal option, which are now gone or were they not important?
16 June 2014, 13:34

Uuups, sorry! That was me. I obviously was too fast merging. Tim, anything you could get back? Or should we leave it merged as it is now?
The questions are:
Was the rebox really a rebox or just the year mistaken?
Rebox with the same box cover, but "changed box only" cannot be that correct, can it?
By the way, Tim - when merging a product with decal options to another without decal options - shouldn't the decal options be transfered?
16 June 2014, 13:40

Restored deleted one.
@Frank: yes I agree! now it is NOT the case. So be careful when merging
16 June 2014, 13:44

I don't know. I didn't delete it after all 😉 but I would say they are. I think there actually were two versions of this kit. Ot so it looks, at least?
16 June 2014, 13:59

The boxes will be similar to these where you'll see a subtle difference on the boxes with extra writing on by the Hasegawa logo on one. The writing is more difficult to see on the Me 262B nightfighter version.
Me 262 A (Hasegawa 851, 1:72)
Messerschmitt Me 262 A (Hasegawa 851, 1:72)
16 June 2014, 14:21

The additional writing on the Me 262B box can just be made out, starting from top left corner.
16 June 2014, 14:31

I think it would be simpler if these were merged but with notes & pictures on the variations seeing as these re-editions are essentially the same kit.
Perhaps 😄
16 June 2014, 19:35

The idea of the database was to gather info on different boxes and dates of release otherwise almost all kits would be merged together into latest boxings.
16 June 2014, 19:38

I agree also. My question was just to know if they were realy two different issues, or a duplicate with a wrong date. 😉
16 June 2014, 20:03

Fair enough, I guess the product history is for what I suggested perhaps ?
a little uncertain, still getting used to how this site works 🙂
16 June 2014, 20:08

If you do not positively know that one of two similar entries is wrong, then just do not touch anything.
I fully agree with Mike, if unsure just ask 🙂

Hi Tim, I've posted 2 new photos in an album, but i can´t see it on the feed. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
18 June 2014, 11:23

Hi Leandro,
you need to add a comment to your album. Just adding fotos to an album does not work for the news feed.
18 June 2014, 11:37

Hi!
I think the Daimler Scout car page scalemates.com/search-solr.p..mp;q=%22Daimler+Scout+Car%22 should be divided in 3:
Daimler Scout Car (Aka Dingo)
Daimler Armoured Car
the Italian Lince
These 3 vehicles are indeed related, but different enough to deserve their one topic
28 June 2014, 06:27

It seems to be common occurrence that timelines now get broken when new items are added, happened to a couple of things last week and now just happened to Frog 1/72 Blenheim when i added a new Novo boxing of the kit.
29 June 2014, 15:24

Searching for "vfa-103" gives some odd results. One kit is listed as an "F-18 Hornet" while all the others are under "F/A-18 Hornet;" for the "organization" selection on the right of the screen, "Navy" and "us navy" are options in addition to "US Navy", but I corrected those kits earlier today. In addition, only five items appear when the "VFA-103" unit is chosen, when 9 of them should appear.
scalemates.com/search-solr.p..=%22vfa-103%22&qs=Search
29 June 2014, 19:08

Lucas, I just tried it and I can't reproduce the issue. (however I just reindexed all data, so that could have fixed it)
29 June 2014, 19:24

The Academy M60 A1 1:48th scale had a topic heading of M1 Abrams but I fixed that too 🙂
29 June 2014, 20:09

I find alot of things listed that are not as per what is written on the box and am constantly amending items, errors and all. I just use postfix to put correct info or additional info 🙂
29 June 2014, 20:14

to be fair and no doubt due to yours & others efforts, most of what I find is all good 🙂
29 June 2014, 20:54

It is mainly when items are "scraped" from the shops sellers stock though not all. When i first started contributing the "Title" part was auto-suggested as you typed but that got done away with, alot of stuff was put up that way but they're not the sole reasons.
29 June 2014, 21:04

Something I would like to see is, when I am in my stash and right click to open a category in a new window I can't just click on products to see all products and if there are not enough products in the catagory there is not a show all products at the bottom. 🙁
Cheers Rob.
30 June 2014, 04:44

I'm having another search-related issue. When I clicked in the "View all related products" of an item, I got 0 results. I know there are at least six products that should come up, but none do. Here's the search generated by the button.
scalemates.com/search-solr.p..+Experimental+Tank%22+1%3A35
30 June 2014, 10:38

Just an idea - make a user search by country, not just town. Then you gen list of all users in one country - this can be useful for clubs, like mine to search for "stand-alone" modelers and requesting to join the club
30 June 2014, 11:24

when in Beta modus you can already do this. Filters on the right hand side allow you to filter by country. Also if you search for "LV" you'll get all users from Lavia. Example: scalemates.com/search-solr.p..mbers&q=LV&qs=Search
30 June 2014, 11:44

I'm not sure this is a mistake: Zvaezda 1/35 Panzer I B is repeated?: Panzer-I B (Zvezda 3522, 1:35) and Panzer 1B (Zvezda 3522, 1:35)
30 June 2014, 11:53

Same with the Italeri kit 207: German Command Tank (Italaerei 207, 1:35) and German Command Tank (Italeri 207, 1:35)
30 June 2014, 11:54

Hi Dario,
in case of Zvezda 3522 no duplicate, because of different box-art.
That seems to be the same for Italeri 207, because we have different release dates. However, one of these 2 bears the wrong box-art.
30 June 2014, 11:58

Maybe it's not a scalemates problem, but many of the Model Alliance decals like this one World Air Power (Model Alliance MA-72155, 1:72)
are listed as 4 sale /trade from Aero Spezial.
Many of them are out of stock and as Model Alliance is out of business....
30 June 2014, 14:28

Tim--here's the link to the item I clicked on. Incidentally, when I tried to search for the item by its title, I also got 0 hits--I had to hunt for it in my history. Something is going on here, but I'm not sure what.
Edelweiss Experimental Tank ..oukei-Mura PSSP01-M04, 1:35)
And here is a link to the topic (taken from the page above), which also comes up blank:
SCM Topic: No longer exists
As you can see, there is no topic ID number in the link.
1 July 2014, 01:51

Would be nice to have "Store" function for paints as well, at least a comment field where to put a hint. I have some 10 places where I keep my paints and sometimes it takes a time to guess where is it 🙂
Also in the current version I can see remaining paint right away in my stash list, but I can't see it in Beta. Would be nice to have Remaining in the list so I can decide if I want more paint shortly
1 July 2014, 09:50

And regarding "Store". It can be just one plain text field. So I can type something like "Green Sparmax box" or "Alclad Box 1" or "Table - main bottom shelf 1"
1 July 2014, 09:56

Another hint. Just minor one. In Contribute page we have "New Color". In my mind color is just a name for Green, Red, etc. In fact we use Paints with different colors. So, "New Paint" would make more sense 🙂
1 July 2014, 11:21

I manage my paints now. Finally got to this point 🙂 It's a lot of fun to go through my boxes and see what I have.
When I search paints, I can see some are already in my stash - that's cool. Then I add some found paints to my stash and refresh the search results by pressing "search" button. I can not see sign "Stash 1x" for just added paints. Also I can not see some paints in my stash: e.g. Mr. Color Iron 212 and Dark Iron 214
1 July 2014, 11:30

Just merged a Hobby Boss T-6 Texan and lost the Doyusha kit on timeline. Needs resetting or whatever.
1 July 2014, 22:48

Can somebody give me a bit of advice. I been collecting the Antonov An-74/72 kits in 1:72 scale. I have amended the time line to reflect the kit production. The trouble is now when you search for the An-72 it doesn't show up but it does on an An-74 search. This is a bit like the MiG-23/27 time line. Do I keep it as is or do I split off the An-72?
1 July 2014, 23:51

Don't know if it has been mentioned already, but the total count of kits in my stash is not correct. It seems some kits are counted multiple times (maybe kits that are in project?), so stash count is higher than the actual total of kits in my stash.
2 July 2014, 00:08

Personally Vic i think the An-72 and An-74 topics should be merged. They're basically the same aircraft and have the same Allied codename.
2 July 2014, 00:16

Shouldn't we be careful here? Merging things? This is a kit database and as such if a kit is different, even only one letter on the box, it should be added as an individual kit. This is a collectors corner, not a military database😉 just saying...
2 July 2014, 06:15

...
I with agree John VK on this one, using a Ferrari 412 T1 and Ferrari T1B as an example same car but with updates, making the kits different.
I'd be well annoyed someone merging those, you ask Tim!!!😢
2 July 2014, 06:27

@john: Mike talks about merging topics! Not about merging products😉
2 July 2014, 06:43

Regarding merging topics, I suggest to merge Sturmgeschütz III SCM Topic: No longer exists and Sturmhaubitze III SCM Topic: No longer exists. Also Sd.Kfz. 231 SCM Topic: No longer exists , Sd.Kfz. 232 SCM Topic: No longer exists , Sd.Kfz. 233 SCM Topic: No longer exists They are more like Sd.Kfz. 234/1 - 234/x The distiction to make would be 6 wheels or 8 wheels.
And 10,5 cm Leichtgeschutz LG 42/1 SCM Topic: No longer exists , 7,5 cm Leichtgeschütz 40 SCM Topic: No longer exists to simply Leichtgeschütze.
2 July 2014, 07:40

@Tim: yes, in his last post Mike did but I was talking in general, not specifically targeting Mike, or anyone for that matter 🙂 I see the word "merged" and "duplicate" coming along quite often and I think we should be careful not to lose important data. Especially for collectors even the smallest change in detail on the box can mean the difference between a unique, high value item or just a regular, low cost one.
So I'm just trying to make people aware of the dangers of simply going with what "you" think is right 👍
2 July 2014, 09:53

...
QUOTE>>>@john: Mike talks about merging topics! Not about merging products<<<END QUOTE
You say that Tim, but members can also then see the topic merged and automatically assume, Oh! I'll merge the kits too, if the topic's the same so's the kit... Especially those not familiar with the subject including the real subject, the real subjects are updated on a regular basis, especially F1 and road cars. So if you don't know leave it alone...
I do not, will not make changes to Military, Ships or Aircraft topics/products, UNLESS I'm 200% positive!!!
2 July 2014, 10:08

The point I was trying to make was not about merging actual products but as Mike has pointed out about "Topics" The An-71/72/74 are all the same airframe but have been modified updated over time. The kits reflect this. If you put An-74 in the topic box in the details form all the kits will be grouped under that topic. It is when you then you conduct a search "Antonov An-72" the kit no longer appears. Should the search be looking at Topic or Title.
2 July 2014, 10:10

...
@Vic I'm not having a pop at you or anyone, like John I'm speaking in general...
If AN-71,2,4 and any others out there are all from the same egg and you're happy merging them, then you merge away my friend...
My subject is CARS, not just Ferrari, any Cars, although Ferrari are my passion and what I build (model wise).
I have limited knowledge on other modelling subjects although I do admire, appreciate, am easily impressed with all the Military builds I see, I learn techniques in weathering, building, painting, building materials, tools etc etc etc...
But as for building one, that does not interest me one iota.
So I leave all the topic, subject, reference, kit stuff and all the other knowledgeable details to you Guys😢
2 July 2014, 10:46

This issue and insturctions in different locations on scalemates are confusing and perhaps in conflict. I typed a post a few days ago using ferarri as an example. for some reason it did not generate and I did not retype it. however this string bears testimony that there is confusion.
the product history should be just that...one tool per product history, to include new parts added to the tool and /or decals and boxes. if the same tool is reissued by various brand it is still the product tool.
however the subject is another matter. the new B-17s by Airfix and Revell are new tools and thus new production which should have independent product history. When you open a box there should be no surpris...this is the old renwal tool of 1954!
now if tou want a SUBJECT history of kits then different tools and introduction dates would be timelined. however that is a distict info tool from the product history.. the Airfix P-51 for example would have three product lines for the D and one B and be soon relative to the two Hasegawa D product tools.
topics I guess relate to the catagoized choices. Are all Rolls Royce Silver Ghost one topic although the car spans several decades from 05 into the classic pre-war period? ditto Chevy Corvettes... do they cluster by body vevision (generations) or are all 60 model years one topic?
Related products should be decals parts and acessories for the subect.
competiting product choices would be in the subect history...is the 1:j32 hellcat offered by different copanies? or are they all one tool (product history)?
2 July 2014, 11:31

@ John, I follow your opion as a (small) collector myself.
That's why I also don't like to have kits merged when there is e.g. a price extension on a kit's catalogue number. Some of those are really just a small difference on the box (the number) but for some of them there is really a difference in the contents in the box.
And for us collectors that's also a very important indicator, because kit's with a low price extension are older and therefore (not by default) more rare.
That's one of the reasons I asked SMC (Tim) for the possibility of adding pictures of the box sides/back.
Regarding the box numbers, I see a lot of users pitting in other box numbers as the alternative number, although these are really other issues of the same kit (Different country/year/etc). Although clearly stated in the remark, they still do it wrong.
Next to this, I see in some topics that a de-merge might be more usefull than a merge. E.g. the Chevrolet Corvette. OK, they are all CC's but a 1950's Corvette is not the same car as a 1990's Corvette.
The search function should indeed be able to select both topic and box name. And it does if I remember right.
The problem is that we have a lot of contributers, and some of them do it wrong, and then it's up to us to correct things. Also for e.g. the decal options. Why someone puts "no decal" in the decal options always buffes me, but I just correct it, "et voila". 🙂
I'm also pro fur typing in the box name as it is stated on the box. If it is in capitals, I do the same. Sometimes I'm wondered why people put in other boxnames then clearly stated on the box... But then I correct it also... 😉
In any case, Tim can't check all the data himself before approving the additions/changes. So it is up to us to help him out, and I clearly love doing it. 🙂 🙂
2 July 2014, 11:35

@Steve I was just trying to highlight a little quirk about the topic/title search. I am like you and my only interest is aircraft kits and would have no idea about cars etc. I have an avid interest in collecting the kits and following the time lines/history (probably more than making them) and I would only update a product if:
1. I have the kit in my stash.
2. I can 100% confirm that the update is correct.
2 July 2014, 11:37

It looks i got nowhere with this Topic / Title issue. I do not want to merge any kits i was just trying to find the best way of constructing a time line with the same tooling but different product names on the box. There are quite a few like this, the MiG-23/27 also has the same problem. When you search the data base for a "Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-27" it only gives me 3 results. Is this how the data base works or am I missing something?
2 July 2014, 16:01

I am also missing some kits I added to my stash. They do not show on my stash list but if I view product it shows my avitar and holdings at the bottom of the page.
2 July 2014, 16:06

This seams to be a glitch in Modus BETA have switch back to normal and missing items are showing OK.
2 July 2014, 16:17

...
Vic, I've been using Beta since it was first introduced, I'm not getting the problems you are!!!
Check it again, if still the same e-mail Tim...
2 July 2014, 16:21

on it! there was a background process which crashed and didn't trigger the sync process. Restarting now, will be fixed in 5mins
2 July 2014, 17:17

issue should be fixed! current delay between adding an item to the stash and having it visible is 5secs. Trying to reduce this even further.
2 July 2014, 17:23

Gunther, I have on occassion put no decals in the first option and I will tell you why. I was prompted to in the contributor page where a kit would remain in my contribution page as nneding decal info until no decals was entered. there is no option to elect no decals in content and stating it in the first decal option puts that info into the database. one can argue that by deleting it you are deleting useful infomation that was prpmpted by SM. this is an answer not an admonishment.
2 July 2014, 20:59

Do not change data because scalemates prompts you for something!!!! Rather tell me about it so i can fix!!!
2 July 2014, 21:15

the price extension topic has pros and cons however until there is a place to state what is different in the box and were the typography and art otherwise Iidentical, I have made a praction of stating so in the alternate number field. proliferation for price extension as separate listing is debatable. personally I leave them if there but only note them if its my contribution. again' even identical boxings may be molded in various colors at various times and some are far less common. Certain colors are more desirable to certain building styles however this type info is beyond the current framework of SM so the best options for collectors would seem to be adding a REVIEW from a collector site which addresses the indepth twists in collecting a given product. the general rule seems to be don t delete without discussion.
2 July 2014, 21:16

Ps: this post wi be closed, this is no longer a nitpicking thread as it was the intention. Way too many different discussions going on at once 🙂 to be honest i no longer understand yhe context
2 July 2014, 21:27

Tim--the problem I posted about earlier still exists. Not sure what is causing it, but the Edelweiss tank products are not even showing up in normal searches. See my post above for more details.
2 July 2014, 21:36

Impossible to edit or delete my own comments in the SCM Mobile. Using Android.
3 July 2014, 04:52

Thx Lucas, will have a look at it! I was the last days in the road
3 July 2014, 05:55

Tim, suddenly my stash is showing some kits I never added, seems to be all from the company "Tenariv", I didn't even knew them... so I had to remove all Tenariv kits from my stash.
6 July 2014, 09:40

Hi Stefan,
a company filter is available, when you filter for kits. As long as your are in "all" mode, the company filter doesn't appear.
6 July 2014, 09:55

@Stefan: can you give an example of such a kit which was in your stash?
6 July 2014, 10:05

...
Although I like/love the new system, there does appear to be some teething problems, although I have not found (this time, but have done in the past) extra items in my stash, as...
Stefan did, (BTW, reading that is why I checked my stash,) every single item has now plussed x1.
So if I had just one in my stash, I now have x1, if I had x1 I now have x2, was x2 now x3 and so on...
Not a big problem as such, just a real pain having to go through it all to correct it...
The problems seem to be different member to member, judging by the comments above.
Anyway! just letting you know... Back to the Grand Prix!!! stash can wait😄
6 July 2014, 10:49

Just checked my stash. As far as I am concerned, I cannot confirm Steve's experiences. Stash looks ok. No strange kits, correct numbers, nothing missing (except those, I haven't bought yet😉 ).
6 July 2014, 10:59

if you had 1, you have 1x
If you had 1, you have 2x
?
I don't understand what you want to say. When I look at your stash they most are "1x". Which specific kit has an issue?
6 July 2014, 11:03

I have found three of those kits in my stash and deleted them, all 1/43 scale Grand Prix cars.
Cheers Rob.
6 July 2014, 11:04

...
@Frank... But it does confirm problems are different for different members...
Something that is similar between our two stash's...
Mine doesn't show ones I haven't bought yet either😄
6 July 2014, 11:04

Please, when it happens do NOT make a change. And tell we which kit it is. I can cross check with the old version. But AFAIK this has nothing to do with the new version of scalemates. We made layout changes, no data changes
6 July 2014, 11:07

...
Haven't touched it Tim... British GP first, I also thought you'd look at it👍
6 July 2014, 11:11

Found one more in my stash: Toleman TG184 Monaco GP 1984 Tenariv 1:43 291. I have not deleted this one.
Cheers Rob.
6 July 2014, 11:17

Steve means the Formula 1 race at Silverstone, British GP, is on TV right now and that he wants to watch it before doing anything else 🙂
6 July 2014, 11:17

@Rob: Thx! will investigate now. As it is also an Tenariv I see a pattern
6 July 2014, 11:21

All the kits I found were Tenariv. I found it odd as I have no 1/43 scale kits. 😄
Cheers Rob.
6 July 2014, 11:23

When showing "All" listed Aircraft kits in your stash "de Havilland" now appears at the bottom of the A-Z list ???
6 July 2014, 16:11

Hi Tim. I was looking up expert's-choice decals and found this: scalemates.com/search-solr.p..ert%27s+choice&qs=Search. Technically, I guess that is correct since Experts Choice is a Bare Metal Foil product. I know this isn't a bug but am not sure if we should change those two or the other lot.
6 July 2014, 16:23

I meant as opposed to these: scalemates.com/search-solr.p..s-choice+decal&qs=Search
6 July 2014, 16:25

Thx John! I will investigate. I would have expected seeing all of them in both cases.
6 July 2014, 18:00

I believe searching on "experts-choice" shows all of them. My point is that a few say the company is "Bare Metal Foil" but the majority state the company as "Experts Choice" I don't know how picky we want to be but "Bare Metal Foil" is probably more correct.
6 July 2014, 20:16

If you check the instructions most of them are An Experts-Choice Decal and only a few a Bare-Metal Decal.
You have a similar problem with Almark Decals and E.D. Models
6 July 2014, 20:40

When exporting my wishlist with 42 posts I only get the 41 kits, not the book I have.
The same with my stash.
Different items in stash: 1402 = 1254 kits, 110 paints, 38 books.
When I export I get 1390 lines in the csv file.
6 July 2014, 20:51

Jan i have the same problem... My stash list seems to be missing items too. And it doesn't load up all in one hit anymore as you scroll down i keep seeing "loading" I have the 4 largest stash on scalemates and now it takes a long time to scroll down. People with much smaller collections may not see this? I much prefered the older way of viewing the stash. If this is the way it is now i won't bother to visit here too often... 🙁
6 July 2014, 22:55

@Glenn: Is the loading problem only in Beta mode? I like the sorting features of that mode but I disabled it because I like the non-beta kits list better. IMHO, it's better organized and loads more quickly.
7 July 2014, 01:11

Hi John, I don't know which mode it's in? I'm just visiting the scalemates page via the usual web way. I've tried it with explorer and firefox and it takes about 10 "loading" messages to get from the top of my "jet" stash which is around (970 kits) to get to the bottom of the list so i guess it only loads up about 100 at a time. My system is Win 7 with a pentium 2.7 dual core, 8 GB of memory (fine loading everything else i run) all drivers/ browsers up to date. I've also tried it on two other systems and no faster. I would like to see the catagory placed to the top of the search because most people have one interest such as Tanks, Cars etc etc then break it down with scales and so forth. I really miss just going to the " My Stash" then choosing the section i want to look at! MUCH FASTER!!! 😮
7 July 2014, 03:03

Glenn: Sounds like you are in Beta mode. Go to the Contributors page and select Disable Beta Features. That should restore it to the way you like it.
7 July 2014, 04:29

John E, I just checked i'm seeing it in Normal modus NOT Beta!!! ? 🙁
I realise not everyone has such a big stash list as mine but i do miss the "good old days" Things were just much simpler...
7 July 2014, 04:43

Tim, I really would like to see "Category" as the first thing you see on the sidebar. Think about it... most people don't want to see everything in one hit, They have a interest in say "Tanks" or "Cars" so choosing this first filters out everything in your collection (if you have other items?) then you narrow it down by "Scale" (not a problem if you only do one scale) or "Brand" depending on how far you want to narrow down your search. I just find seeing everything in your collection at once a big messy list unless you refine (it everytime you do a search!) Then when i have "jumped" back a page it's ALL GONE and you have to start again refining the search! ARRH....???
7 July 2014, 04:57

The jump back bit refers to looking at a item closer on it's own page then jumping back to the main stash list (it's all gone and you have to start again) searching....
7 July 2014, 04:59

Hi Glenn, let me dig into this this evening. I don't understand that during the BETA testing you replied that all was great and fine and that now you make statements like 'i won't bother to visit here too often' … As said, I will look into this evening.
At first glance: The issue is not that you don't have a big stash, it seems that you have so many different scales (compared to others) in your stash which pushes the "category" to the bottom. I'll see what I can do, to make your category selection easier.😉
7 July 2014, 09:00

@John: Beta modus was a way to test new features for some key users in advance for feedback. What was beta 2 days ago is now the standard. (enabling/disabling beta will go away in a few days)
7 July 2014, 09:09

@Jan H.: good catch, indeed the export only exports kits at the moment. I will make changes so you can export all data.
7 July 2014, 09:10

I've noticed that for some kits that hadn't their decal info added yet, after the release they disappeared from my contributer's page due to having no more box contents anymore. I already updated their box content, but I think there will be some more like this, not in my stash.
7 July 2014, 09:52

@Tim: maybe a good/handy option in such cases where people have enormous lists would be to be able to collapse/expand all filter sections with one button that's at the top? Or, maybe even better, a button to collapse/expand all filter sections but keep the filter sections where boxes have been ticked open.
That way, if you collapse all filters they will all be within easy reach and one could open just the filter he wants to use. Not sure if something like that is doable but it may make it easier for some users?
Another small question, something I just noticed: is it possible to see the total number of physical items in the stash somewhere? I do see the number of DIFFERENT items in stash but not a total count? Or should I maybe open my eyes and take a closer look? 😛 if it's not possible no big deal of course but still a valuable piece of information (for me) 🙂
7 July 2014, 10:09

@Gunther: should not be related to the new release. No data changes were done. Nor has the contributor logic changed. (Since when are you seeig this?)
7 July 2014, 10:51

Good suggestions John, i was also thinking about having the option for every individual to select the order of filters. So if in Glenn's example category is preferred as first item he can save his preferences. And others can keep the order as is....@Glenn: would that work?
7 July 2014, 10:55

Agree. That is similar to what I tried to convey in my PM on electing how to sort. Consider also please being able to rank order the elections and sub- categories. In other words, maybe elect sort planes, then cars, then ships and within, sort scales ascending or resending. Or sort first by company, then scale, then type.
7 July 2014, 11:06

Tim, I have always loved how easy it is to use the Stash lists (in the past!) it was a simple list of different categories at the top of your stash summary (I would love the option to allow this still?), You could then jump straight to the section of your stash! Not worrying about sorting scale, No problems and it loaded up very quickly (even with a long list of kits!) Most of my kits are constant scale eg: 1/72 Aircraft or 1/25 scale Cars ,Trucks or 1/35 scale Armour (Not that many others scales) I know the new expanded list will make it faster and easier to "find a certain kit" when looking something up. But from a "stash" point of view it's a bit of a pain just looking for your items without filtering everything out. It seems to "auto default" to "show" everything in your stash (at first) until you block out all other things you don't want to see. I hope you can understand what i'm getting at? I have always believed in keeping things simple if it gets too tricky I loose interest trying to sort it out. Like I said before it's very annoying if your in your stash list and take a closer look at one of the items "clicking on a certain item" then when you try to "backpage out of it" and it sends you right back to the top of your stash list instead of the position you were in before you took a closer look at one item, (like it used to!) You then have to scroll all the way back down the list and wait for the page "loading" stuff to get back to he same place again. My concern may not bother people with only a dozen kits in there stash list. But it sure makes things difficult for a larger list. O.K I'll let you get back to sorting things out! cheers Glenn.
7 July 2014, 11:06

Just tried to look at only "Jets" section in my stash (928 items) when it loaded and I scrolled down a bit to look at a "Boeing 747" kit in greater detail, then backed out of that page (with the backspace arrow) it through me back to the top of an "unfiltered search" after thinking about it for a long time... (a good few seconds....) not good! then I have to filter out everything again to continue down the stash list (This never happened in the past) That's enough to stop anyone looking any further... 🙁 HELP!!!
7 July 2014, 11:24

@Tim: oh yeah! custom ordering of the filter groups would be awesome! 👍
And if we'd take that one step further, which I think would definitely solve Glenn's problem, is to be able to create custom filter sets. Like you tick a few boxes and have the ability to save that selection under a name of your choosing. That way Glenn could define the filter sets he wants (the ones we had in the "old" system) and it would definitely also come in handy for everyone else.
If those filter sets are also grouped under a separate header (which can collapse/expand individually), we could drag that to the top of the list and have it available and handy at all times.
Maybe even an option to set one of those custom defined filter sets as default, so it will auto-load if you go to your stash?
That might take a fair bit of extra programming though, so this is more like a suggestion for a future update maybe?😉
7 July 2014, 16:15

I "LIKE" your thinking John!!! I hope something can be sorted out! Tim is a genius!!! I'm sure it will be sorted out sometime! Because right now i don't want to bother looking at the stash page, It's too slow (at the moment for a large list) and it don't remember things when you go back a page.(it used too) Maybe that's something to do with cache? After i scrolled down the list a bit clicked on a subject to look at it then back out of the page it was sending me way back to the top again... Making it very difficult to look at things in closer detail as you go down the stash list. I guess it's not a problem with only a few kits in a stash? Maybe the 3 other guys above me in the largest stash list can tell you more?
7 July 2014, 23:06

I've had to stop contributing as i can no longer search anything in the database while logged in, all is fine when i am logged out.
7 July 2014, 23:24

Year of release of the kit, year of the date you purchased it, year of the specific decal options of the kit?
8 July 2014, 13:35

Year of release was added as an option to filter when looking at "kits"
8 July 2014, 20:06

@Glenn: I'm working on the User interface so every user can choose which filters appear on the right hand side, as well as the order. The UI is not ready, but when YOU are looking at your stash you will already see the modified order. (scale at the bottom)
My question now for you and the others: When looking at for example 'kits' in your stash or 'kits' in the full search engine. Do you want these filters to be the same? or do you have other requirements when searching in general?
8 July 2014, 21:21

a little consistency in the filters would be good 🙂
Extra features should be extras 🙂
8 July 2014, 21:36

"a little consistency in the filters would be good"? where is there no consistency?
8 July 2014, 21:37

you asked if you want these filters to be the same 🙂
yes please and any extra features should be extras 🙂
8 July 2014, 21:46

@Tim: for me personally the filters could be the same. My search methods are the same between stash and general searches.
8 July 2014, 21:48

@Tim . I would like to see an own main category for hobbytools.
Airbrushes, saw blades, pliers, etch benders etc. They are all under kits now.
scalemates.com/search-solr.p..TION[]=All&q=%22Tools%22
Generates 1716 hits.
8 July 2014, 21:49

@Jan H: I just click on category "Tools" (no other things selected) and then I have all the tools. Right?
8 July 2014, 21:52

Tim is the best! 🙂 👍
I had to narrow down the search for "tools" or "hobbytools" to no or 1:1 scale and it was a bit better
8 July 2014, 22:14

Aaah, right! 👍 Good to know. Thanks 🙂
I think the filters may take a little getting used to at first (finding our way to best results) but I really like them 🙂 and seeing how Tim is (very) actively and constantly improving things, user request or not, I think in no time we will have a system that works wonders for everyone 😄
8 July 2014, 22:22

How it is possible to edit a review link?
Set the wrong link of this kit:
Bf 109G (G-2, G-2 Trop, G-4, G-6, G-14) (Eduard R0009, 1:48)
If i klick on "edit", there is just the option to report this link as failure.
No way to change direct.
Thats the right link for the MB-Review:

10 July 2014, 20:31

@John VK: Clicking on the "refine by" header in the filter will collapse all filters. (still requires some work but it quickly gets complex)
14 July 2014, 21:08

@Tim: just what the doctor ordered!! 😄 Awesome! Thank you VERY much!! 👍 👍
And I totally understand the complexity of it all. I'm a programmer myself. Take aaaaaall the time you need 👍 We are not going anywhere 😄 😄
14 July 2014, 21:23

Fixed the "de Havilland" issue in a temp fix by renaming all "de Havilland" topics to "De Havilland". When fixed this will be renamed in bulk again.
14 July 2014, 21:29

When I choose Tools
The Instrument Bezels decals show up there
Grouped as: Hobby Material - Bits & Pieces
Other no scale decals like this
Loga Hamilton 1,2 a 4 mm (APC Decals 90003, No)
show up Grouped as: Accessories - Other
Regroup of all the Instrument bezels to "Accessories - Other"?
15 July 2014, 19:09

When I just added a sheet of decals from Starfighter Decals there was two Starfighter Decals to choose from in the popup list.
16 July 2014, 12:17

@HK: I made some changes to the company page. The "show" all will now kick off a search showing only the company kits. This gives you the option to filter as well.
16 July 2014, 19:00

The same is true, for gallery articles. A link was added to easily find all gallery articles from a specific company
16 July 2014, 19:00

If I add a newly contributed product to my stash it nearly always is added twice.
17 July 2014, 20:38

Someone help!!!! I'm looking for the ACADEMY 1:48 SCALE F8F Bearcat "French Air Force" kit # 12201. Last week I was surfing the web and came across this model but in Blue Angel Decals for sale, I thought I had ordered the model but It did not go through as a sale, don't know what happened. I can't remember who (hobby shop) I ordered the model from. Price if not mistaken was about 20.49. Anyone available to help......
18 July 2014, 02:56

@ricmac50: In the so called History your webbrowser remembers which sites you visited. In Firefox and Chrome you open it with [Ctrl]+[H], in Internet Explorer with [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[H]. The history gives you a timeline, so that you should be able to identify the relevant site without problems.
18 July 2014, 08:40

Is there a way to get to see the actual physical number of items in the stash without having to do an export first? At this moment I can only see the number of DIFFERENT items.
The difference in number is not small in my case. If I select Full Kits + Figures, the stash tells me I have 196 different items but in reality there are 292 actual physical items.
I would love to be able to see the actual number of items in the stash, not just the different items, for the current selection. Is it possible?
18 July 2014, 12:42

Is it possible? No 🙁
Will it be possible? Absolutely 🙂
When? soon😉
18 July 2014, 12:46

Hahaha! 😛 Alright Tim 😉
Very cool! 👍 I will await the arrival of that feature patiently 😄 thanks!!
18 July 2014, 13:26

Hello Tim,
There is a little problem with the filters on the right panel. When you have filtered a result and you open an item, then if you go back to the result page, the filters are still checked but not applied to the list. A little of work for you during this sunny day😉
Thank you!
18 July 2014, 14:26

When viewing your stash and adding a extra item the site becomes unresponsive and does not show the extra item till leaving the page and coming back, I did have one filter on.
Cheers Rob.
21 July 2014, 00:07

I can confirm the not updating the page part. I added extra items to some Vallejo paint bottles and the small box when you click the PLUS-sign said two items but the page itself didn't update (until I left the page and returned).
I can kind of understand why it doesn't but it would be nice if there's a way to dynamically update those "Stash 1x" fields as well 🙂
For now I just click one of the filters checkboxes on/off (or off/on) and the page updates itself😉
Everything kept working smoothly though. No hangs or unresponsiveness. With and without filters selected.
21 July 2014, 06:09

@Rob: Are you talking about the extra stash which is not visible when the "green +" is still expanded or after you clicked on the "green +" again?
21 July 2014, 08:49

I think John described it better, at one point I added six extra items because they don't show until refresh.
Cheers Rob.
21 July 2014, 11:00

When using the main search in upper right, there is no album choice in drop down menu. I don t understand why not.
also if one elects members and starts to search the auto fill prompts topics or products but not member name. that would be a good fix to have it prompt names.

21 July 2014, 20:34

Hi Tim,
might it be possible to do the filters of a search in numerical/alphabetical order?
E.g. when you look for Tiger I and you want to filter for a certain company, it is difficult to find the company, because presently the filters are lined up by number of kits the company has in the database.
For the scales it is still ok, because there aren't that much, but other filters I prefer alphabetical order.
23 July 2014, 16:33

You can already do that, Frank 🙂
You need to click on "A-Z" under the REFINE BY (sort filters) entry at the top of the lists. Its default is "Relevance".
23 July 2014, 16:38

It is already possible! There is a link called "A-Z" close to the reset all link
23 July 2014, 16:38

Got it! Thanks!
Hmmm, I would still prefer, if it would be alphabetical from the beginning, and sort for relevance, when needed. I still haven't found the importance of relevance in the filters (for me), when it is sorted for relevance.... There is an explanation for it...?
23 July 2014, 16:54

If I'm not mistaken, once you have selected "A-Z" this setting is stored in a cookie (or somewhere else, linked to your account) and is the default for your account from then on. Even if you close and re-open the browser.
The relevance setting is probably explained best by its name 🙂 when sorted by relevance, the list is ordered so that if you search for TIGER, for instance, the list shows the things that are most relevant to a tiger tank first. Like, "GROUP > Vehicles" would be more relevant to a tiger search compared to "GROUP > Science Fiction". And "CATEGORY > Tanks" would be more relevant compared to "CATEGORY > Propeller".
At the same time, I must admit that I do not know how relevance is linked to a certain search query 😄 I think Tim can answer / explain that one much better than me😉
23 July 2014, 17:03

Relevance = the more results returned belonging to that filter the higher the relevance. or it is sorted by the number between the brackets

I've just added two kits to my wishlist. But only the first one is shown in the newsfeed/wall. But both kits were added to my wishlist.
HTL-4 U.S. Coast Guard (Academy 2200, 1:35)
Bell 47D MASH Helicopter (MRC BA102, 1:35)

The newsfeed only show the latest additions in order to not clutter it.
30 July 2014, 11:22

Wishlist n' stash additions is separate in the feed so if you add a lot I think you'll only see your latest wishlist item n' your two latest stash items in the public feed. Could be wrong with the numbers of course but it's along that way it works.

I also added a new entry in the stash as a completed project from the Revell 1/72 Heinkel He 70 "Blitz" entry, but the list is not updated.
1 August 2014, 02:32

hello tim, i have seen that in the "For Sale" department there is no selection possible like "Stash". on over 100 kits it is difficult. 🙂

Can internet etiquette be used when contributing. One of my pet hates is ALL CAPITALS and it is considered shouting on the net. I have been changing a load of entries (mainly Airfix) that have been done in capital letters, there is still loads to do.
2 August 2014, 07:24

Some stuff should be all capitals. SAAB for example as that's an abreviation.

Excellent point Urban...
AUDI is another one that is oh! so often written Audi, AUDI is not a word it's an abbreviation/acronym meaning:
Auto Union Deutschland Ingolstadt...

...
SAAB by the way means: Svenska Aeroplan Aktie Bolaget...
NOT Swedish Automobiles Always Breakdown😄 titter!!!
2 August 2014, 10:37

Well, we say "Sist Av Alla Bilar" (Last place of all cars) or "Sälj Aset Annars Byt" (Sell the crap or Exchange it). BTW I drive a Volvo myself...
2 August 2014, 11:15

@Steve Wilson: "Auto Union Deutschland Ingolstadt" is a backronym. The company name is based on the Latin translation of the surname of the founder, August Horch. When Horch exited his first company, Horch Motorwagenwerke, in 1909, he founded a secondy company, Horch Automobilwerke. His former company immediately sued him for copyright infringement. The german Supreme Court decided that the brand name belonged exclusively to the first company. So Horch renamed the new company as "Audi". Horch in German means "Listen!", which is "audi!" in Latin. The trade register entry indeed is "AUDI Aktiengesellschaft", but for any other purposes the company itself uses "Audi AG". Just have a look at the Audi website.
2 August 2014, 11:47

@ Steve: it doesn't happen that often, but in this case I have to correct you. "Audi" is based on the latin word "audire", which in german means "höre or horch" August Horch is the founder of the company. After some disagreement with the Horch company he decided to launch a new company. To circumvent the naming rights, with a little help of a student he created "Audi", which is not written in capital letters. 😉
2 August 2014, 11:58

Tim, the drop down menu in the decal option organization field still contains the non-existent US Army Air Force. The 1941 -1947 US air arm commanded by Arnold et al was plural: US Army Air Forces complementing the Ground Forces and Services Forces in 1843. The proper form has some odd capitalization. Both the singular form and the odd capitalization should be removed after all entries are globally replaced. At one point there was also an erronious US Air Army Force. Check for that. There does exist US Army Aviation as a speciality branch and that should be available.
2 August 2014, 14:21

5 August 2014, 16:42

Not necessarily doubles. It is the purpose of the timeline to show what precisely is in different boxings. If the same sprues and decals are in 10 different boxes with 5 different catalogue numbers, great.
5 August 2014, 22:16

...and since the tops may be identical but not the end panels, it gets impossible to tell!
5 August 2014, 22:35

I find this all very confusing having several different entries for essentially the same kit.
My preference would be to have just one entry with the variations listed under the one entry, especially if the kit variations contain the same sprues and decals etc. I know we have the "timeline" thingy but even so....
Anyhow, thats just my thoughts on it 🙂
5 August 2014, 23:32

...
Choppa!!! Good idea... BUT!!! (there's that but again😠)
The " timeline " thingy is there exactly for that reason...
It shows the researcher the variations of a particular kit, which variation was released first and when the subsequent variations were released, when dates are known they are included...
As and when new information is found/available or the information is wrong, the researcher/viewer has the facility to update or change that information, any information that you can't include/change you inform Tim and he'll do it. Here is a good example: Ferrari 126C2 (Studio27 ST27-DX2014, 1:20)
What I'd like to say about this Kit is it's actually produced by Model Factory Hiro kit, but made in conjunction with Studio27. Apart from the label on the box in photo image, there is no facility for me to include this information, when I asked Tim... He said mention it in comments, which isn't very conducive to my idea, I'd like to be able to include History and other useful information to a prominent area as Decal information has...
But then I notice that the decal information is not included in this link???
That's what's wrong, no continuity!!!🤔 I spent hours including the decal information🙁
6 August 2014, 07:09

...
BTW, I mean History and other useful info related to the kit...
I've noticed decal info is included, sorry🙂

6 August 2014, 10:43

Steve, I kind of of imagined a separate pair of arrows to take you through the variations, I get the timeline thingy but it just seems REALLY messy to have a separate entries for all these slight variations of a kit 🙂
6 August 2014, 11:10

...
QUOTE "I kind of of imagined a separate pair of arrows to take you through the variations, it just seems REALLY messy to have a separate entry for all these slight variations of a kit" END QUOTE
Not really... with an arrow you have to keep flicking backwards and forwards to see all the different variations, at least the way they are, you can see them all together at once in row, any other info you need then you click on the necessary image in the row. I'd rather that than a series of arrows, what arrow should I click on? oh B****R that's the wrong one, flick back... click S**T another wrong 'en... and so on, that's messy!!!
I vote leave it as it is... Until Tim finds an even better way, sure there's things that need cleaning/tidying up, but Tim's getting there.
6 August 2014, 11:33

@Burkhard: Maybe at other Kits. But the Pontos-Kits are doubles.
Check the Website of Pontosmodel.com:
Every Kit starts with a number (23001 for example) and then the versionsnumber (F1, F2, WD1, etc.)
The requestet Kits on scalemates starting with the letter (F) and then the id-number (23001).
Thats wrong. Check google. No other website or onlineshop gives a result for the wrong number except scalemates.com.
So there are no updatet kits, or later releases. Just doubles. And there are a lot of pontos-doubles this way. :/

11 August 2014, 15:48

Have it been added before? If not then it's just a case of adding it to the database! But shouldn't there be a zero in the product number when it comes to Revell?
11 August 2014, 16:13

Depends. In the 80s they used 4-digit numbers for a while. The preceding zero came later.
11 August 2014, 20:50

Luc - yep that must be it. I've looked 30 different ways and never found it. The search function is very very specific. For example if you searched Revell Mig-29 it never came up. I'm new hear and some of the functionality is not straightforward - ie addind a "mate" took me forever to figure out etc. I'll try to add to the database with a pic of the box but I'm not sure I know how. It's the first model I've done in 30 years so it was a bummer not to find it!

When is a figurine a model kit, and vice versa?
I've seen quite some figurines being added as full kit, whereas they can be considered a figurine. IMHO it should be always a firgurine if the "kit" is mainly a person (real or fiction).
Next to this, why do we not split the fiction characters in their own topic? e.g. Superman i.e. DC Comics. If Irom Man deserves his own one 😉

Hi Tim,
Re timelines...how about starting a new line when there is a new tool of a manufacturer for a certain type?
Two examples
Focke Wulf Fw 200 C-4 Condor (Revell 04312, 1:72)
F-14A Tomcat (High Visibility) (Hasegawa 00533, 1:72)
Re-boxings of Hasegawa second-last tooling kits were released after last new tool was out.
The rivet-monster Revell Fw200C-4 was re-boxed after the new-tool transport versions were out.
In both cases, the ancestry lines are not correctly drawn. Starting a new line with every new-tool would fix that and help disentangle some very long and complex lines...me thinks 🙂
31 August 2014, 21:59

I have been trying to make this distinction between product history vs subject (topic) history for months. Moreover, instructions conflict in places and the mechanics to de-link or correct do not either exist or work. In trying to be all the baby has gone out the window.
31 August 2014, 22:07

"Moreover, instructions conflict in places " where specifically?
"mechanics to de-link or correct do not either exist or work" => specific example please (If the scale AND topic do not match, there is NO way to link.)
@Burhkard: yep, I agree we need to do something here.
1 September 2014, 07:24

Tim, I be pointed out specifics so many times to no avail I have no appetite to re-respit examples. I will generalerize with some specificity that in some places the rule ( and I believe correctly, is only one new tool per product history. Yet one can find this violated time and again the two examples from Burhkard are far from unique. Moreover topic linked timelines infer that kits are based on other kits merely because the subjects are the same. Ford model T of the 09 -15 era; 1917-27 era; Model A B and 18 of 27 - 32 and 34 era are all particularly ripe with examples as are P-51 and B-17 kits.
1 September 2014, 14:12

Hi Phil, first if you don't tell me that it is related to a previous comment = I can't know it.
When the TOPIC is wrong the whole system crashes… when someone chooses a too generic topic = BAD. When someone chooses a too narrow topic = BAD. (e.g. AUDI for categorizing an A4 and A3 = Bad, also creating a topic For Audi A4 Diesel and one for Audi A4 Hybrid would be bad)
It think I said it already a few times as well. Just change the topic if it makes sense to do so. If there is an Aircraft called "ABC" and a car called "ABC", we should find a way to rename one of them. Keeping them both as ABC will mess up scalemates and indeed links can not be chosen or unlinked.
If a car called Ford Model T from 1700 is different than a car called Ford Model T from 2020 = we should split the 2!!!! (=problem solved, rename one of the topics and DONE). For example do a search for Toyota Corolla and you'll see how we managed it there?
Ford model T of the 09 -15 era; 1917-27 era => Please split 🙂 and call it Ford model T (1909-1915), Ford model T (1917-1927)
If there are 300 kits from one topic and only a few of the other. Rename only the ones which are "special". And I can bulk rename the rest very easily.
Makes sense? So to summarize, if the the TOPIC is bad = big issue with data = big issue on scalemates (including timelines and related products)
Have a look at Toyota Corola, would applying the same scenario work for Ford Model T and the others you mentioned in the past?
Tim
1 September 2014, 14:34

In Stash, under Purchase and Price, one can only use . (dot) for Postage, but for Price both , (comma) and . (dot) are allowed. Also both values are saved with only one decimal.
1 September 2014, 15:44

Tim, thanks, Phil. That Topic guidance will help. The view that is most most problematic is the one which is not structutured as a timeline but rather as a left and right column with"is based on" between them. most of those relationships are just not real.
1 September 2014, 20:27

The Academy and 1990s Airfix link is correct. The Revell kit for example is totally unrelated as a product tool.
1 September 2014, 21:15

Phil, what is the problem with the Monogram Ford T? As far as I know, both T show models are from the same base mold.
As far as splitting car topics, I agree with Tim. There are e.g. far too many Mustangs (for my taste) in one specific topic. Although some might be using the same basic mold, with some small newer parts added via e.g. a seperate sprue.
2 September 2014, 10:53

@Phil: are you talking about the "edit" page now? if they are not related you should not add a link. if there is no link they are not related. The edit page shows all potentially related kits. It is up to the contributor to select one. If I knew the relationship from the start I wouldn't have to have an edit page.
2 September 2014, 11:21

Tim, yes, I guess so. I mistook the section as a "de-conflict" area because so many are labled "impossible." The instructions and format did not lead me to see this as linking tool and , by phone, my usual interface, until recently the green box did not appear. Which is why I had asked questions about linking and unlinking. Let me use this new understanding for a while before commenting. Tim thanks for clearing that up
2 September 2014, 15:56

Gunther, Are the Black Widow and Green Hornet on the chassis...well I say this: The Black Widow chassis is designed to accomodate mortization. Not so the green Hornet. Tires, axels and hubs seem common, a common trait of the era. If you have comparision chassis shots, photos or photo-Iinstructions of the era to substantiate your believe, this would be an opportunity to demonstrate you claim.

2 September 2014, 19:48

@Sebastian: changes to the paint stash where only synchronised 2 times a day vs. every 5 seconds. This is now fixed
2 September 2014, 19:57

@Urban: Fixed the following => "The x in the closing button on the member pop-up box you get when you hover too long over an avatar is not in the center of the green button."
2 September 2014, 20:05

Can I still use this thread? I've noticed a lot of the Vallejo Model-Air paints show up twice or more in the database, sometimes under slightly different names, but a lot of them seem to be exact duplicates.
4 September 2014, 21:58

I've noticed the same with the Vallejo Model Air. I have a complete list (Excel) of the Model Air range for bulk update if needed.
5 September 2014, 06:50

When you remove paint from your wishlist only action is "Remove from stash". If it's a kit the action says "Remove entry".
5 September 2014, 08:15

Tim - an easy one! Duplicate entry for 'UMMT 1:72 Two Axle Pilot Car' - suggest you delete the one I have renamed with post script 'DUPLICATE ENTRY', as I have updated the other one (the things I find myself buying - Choppa Nutta should worry!!!).
Thanks,
Derek.
5 September 2014, 12:28

Hi Tim,
Looks like one can edit a new comment only once. Given my clumsy fingers, multiple editing would be fine😉
7 September 2014, 17:50

Just added some kits to my stash, but they're not showing up in my main list. Bug?
I can see the history on my wall, visit a kit page and it's logged as in my stash, but they're just not in my main list.
7 September 2014, 22:03

@Ian: should be OK now?
@Lukasz: Not yet, I'm currently working on something which allows to group multiple projects into one "collection". Eg. your project "Polish Air Force in exile during WW2" is in fact a collection of multiple smaller projects.
8 September 2014, 11:42

👍…I'll add you to the beta program once i have some results to show
8 September 2014, 13:33

sometimes the sync process hangs, still figuring out why it does.
8 September 2014, 14:42

I had the same update problems last time with added colors, kits and gallery article. It it needs over night to show it correct. I thougt the database will update over night, ok now it's a bug😉
8 September 2014, 15:47

Anyway for users to flag/delete duplicate paints? I've been added a bunch to my stash (and adding in missing ones), but I see a bunch of dupes that I'd be happy to tidy.
9 September 2014, 03:10

Looks like a doublet:
Mitsubishi F-2A `Air Combat Meet 2013´ (Hasegawa 02085, 1:72)
Mitsubishi F-2A Air Combat Meet 2013 (Hasegawa 02085, 1:72)
and I saw lately there are two Attack Squandrons on the companies' list
12 September 2014, 09:28

With all this talk about doubles going on, a random (kinda) question springs to mind:
What happens if a double gets deleted and some people have been using that double in their stash? Does it get deleted, i.e., their stash no longer contains the item? Or is there a (back-end) mechanism in place that replaces the deleted double with the correct, still existing, one?
12 September 2014, 12:42

We have a "merge" function, it makes sure data is transferred (comments, stash, projects, reviews)
12 September 2014, 14:18

Tim, I just added 5 Model Master paints to my stash and they went in a different category.??
Cheers Rob.
14 September 2014, 04:27

Hi Tim! This is not a report of a glitch but more of a question/request:
Would it be possible to add an option to export the kits contained within a manufacturer to a CSV file? Much like the option we have in our stash. The reason I'm asking is because I have my own database which I use to pull kit descriptions and numbers and it would be great if I could use the data from ScaleMates for that purpose (because descriptions and kits are always correct and up to date). Basically it would contain what is displayed when you go here, for instance: SCM Brand: No longer exists
That is: kit description, company name, scale and kit.no.
14 September 2014, 09:43

I think this is doubly: Mr. Surfacer 500 (GSI Creos SF285, No)
16 September 2014, 10:57

The whole GSI Creos is a nonsense in my opinion SCM Brand: No longer exists
16 September 2014, 13:24

Hi Tim,
this kit aint coming up in mys stash for some reason even though I have added it 🙂
Messerschmitt BF109F-4 & Sup..e MkVB (Airfix A50014, 1:48)
20 September 2014, 19:26

Since yesterday, I can't see the update site on every device in different networks. It's a bug or a Feature?😉
22 September 2014, 06:52

In my profile I selected a club in error now can't find how to clear it.
22 September 2014, 07:55

Curtiss XP-55 Ascender (Czech Model , 1:48)
Duplicates a more complete listing.
22 September 2014, 13:39

Someone has deleted the airmodel XP-55 Curtiss Ascender in 1:72 I had posted. I would appreciate you reposting. I can repost image and missing element once you undo the damage done.
22 September 2014, 13:46

Hi Tim,
presently the "Updates" page isn't working and shows just a white page:
SCM Updates
22 September 2014, 16:36

Hi Rob! Thanks! Yeah, for me, too.
It didn't work for a while. Now it's ok.
23 September 2014, 05:07

Tamiya 1/48 Road sign set (Tamiya - Nr. 32509)
Got a wrong link for the reviews (the PMMS link is wrong)
23 September 2014, 12:34

You've probably already noticed, but are we experiencing "smiley troubles" at the moment? They appear at the bottom of the post, enlarged. Inline still only shows the text representation for the smiley.
30 September 2014, 19:24

fixed! ... comments/posts with the wrong smilie should be edited and saved.
30 September 2014, 19:34

Except... I just noticed, I can't edit my posts anymore 😉 lol
30 September 2014, 19:43

Mi-8 Balkan Veterans (Balkan Models BM-7212, 1:72) - In the Decal options, the Serbian flag is missing, can be this fixed?
5 October 2014, 09:42

Hi Luka, yes! I'm sorry my flags are still outdated. I'm changing it as we speak
5 October 2014, 10:01

Hi Luka, please have a look. Serbian Flag is now visible. I also added some historic country names in the drop down with a time indication.
5 October 2014, 19:25

for some reason my image links are not working and I can't work out why
they used to work by simply copying image location and pasting the address into the comment like so.
6 October 2014, 13:37

...
That's what I reported back on the 3rd October in another thread Chop' virtually the same as how you said it!!!
Tims not got back on it🤔
6 October 2014, 13:47

Tim, for reference about (more) issues with the images and inline HTTP links cutting off the rest of the text of a post, please look here:
www.scalemates.com/profiles/mate.php?id=12853&p=projects&project=9730
If we use "http" in the link, the link does not get translated properly and will cause all kinds of problems. If we leave the http part off, the link works but does not translate like they used to (in images of kits, for instance).
Even worse, some issues with the http links cut off the post.
The first message I posted in the link provided above shows this effect. The funny thing is, if I edit that message (while I am still able to do that), the text IS still there. It's just not showing. Probably because of a problem with the link translation of the link proceeding that missing text.
7 October 2014, 07:11

Looks like things are working again? 🙂 Thanks very much Tim! 👍 👍
7 October 2014, 09:21

When returning on a followed subject, could it be possible to see only the new messages since the last visit? On some lengthy subject, the last one are hard to spot.
7 October 2014, 10:41

Good idea, Lionel 👍
If it is not too hard to implement (I realize this is not a forum / forum software), I would like to second that suggestion.
Or maybe even just a visual indication of which posts are new (different background color, for instance). But maybe it's not possible because the software doesn't really (cannot) store which posts / threads are read and which are not?
7 October 2014, 10:53

I have implemented your request Lionel. When you are viewing a topic it will show the unread comments in green.
7 October 2014, 18:48

That works great, Tim! The different colored background on new posts! Very, very nice!
Once again, you're as fast as lightning😉 Thank you!! 👍
7 October 2014, 18:50

nope still not seeing it & didn't get notifications from the reactions of scalemates or Stefan and I guess I should have had??
7 October 2014, 18:59

Ah 🙂 you only get it when you enabled notifications on the post. You probably once disabled it on this thread?
7 October 2014, 19:01

Thanks Tim for the implementation of this new feature!
If only some peoples I work with were as fast as you...
7 October 2014, 19:47

I agree...the new green highlighting makes life much easier! (K.I.S.S.) Well done Tim. 👍 👍
7 October 2014, 23:03

A new wrinkle in the system (to me, anyway) - when entering a new Publication, the 'Add book' does NOT flag up duplicates like the 'Add product' screen! Hence (and totally my fault for not checking) there are now 2 entries for Squadron/Signals publication 'Schnellboot In Action' on the system! (Please delete my error entry which I have re-titled to include the words 'DUPLICATE ENTRY'). Sorreeee! (Or did I not save it to start with, as I cannot see it now?!!!! Sorreee2)
9 October 2014, 12:09

Hahaha! Indeed! I guess Tim is working on updates 🙂 Let's give it some leeway for now 🙂
9 October 2014, 14:03

Or drive him insane * evil laughter* ( and get banned for spamming)
Anyway, it`s back ( last post, I promise 🙂 )
9 October 2014, 14:06

Hahaha!😉 we need a "laughing devil" emoticon😎
Anyway, it's gone again for me 😄 LOL! I promise as well, this is the last time I'll post on this 👍
9 October 2014, 14:54

Strange it is gone …. I'm not working on anything. Looks like this post is affected
9 October 2014, 16:01

...
You're right Tim, only this thread is afflicted with this not green, is green trite...
9 October 2014, 16:15

Ah... that's weird indeed? I now have green posts again in this thread 🙂 but you seem to be right in that it is only affecting this particular thread?
9 October 2014, 17:27

Seems to be a issue going on with paints 🙁 I was trying to add two AK Interactive products to my stash and clicking the AK logo only got me 6 entries, I had to search by bottle size to find them.
Cheers Rob.
12 October 2014, 07:36

Is it possible to allow adding the same inbox review link in multiple products? It sometimes happens that one review, i.e., one url, contains reviews of several items. For instance, for these two products I just added:
Inbox review link: amps-armor.org/ampss..?ID=1152&Type=FL
Product 1 : German Armored Car Lifting H..r Model Designs 10027, 1:35)
Product 2 : German Armored Car Lifting H..r Model Designs 10028, 1:35)
14 October 2014, 11:41

add #1, #2... at the end. It will be work. However scalemates sees it as a different link 🙂
14 October 2014, 13:13

Tssk tssk, I should have thought of that myself😉 😄 LOL
Thanks Tim! 👍 👍
14 October 2014, 14:15

Shouldn't these all be 1 topic? SCM Topic: No longer exists SCM Topic: No longer exists SCM Topic: No longer exists SCM Topic: No longer exists The last one, although numbered the same as second, appears seperately, see scalemates.com/search-solr.p..awa+volkswagen&qs=Search
19 October 2014, 18:56

Tim, Pro Modeler and Promodeler should be merged. In fact, Promodeler (or Pro Modeler which is the more correct naming) is a Monogram sub-brand, as is e.g. Advent within Revell.
22 October 2014, 07:20

Regarding "Dragon": the correct name is "Dragon Models Limited" (in short DML). Both DML and Dragon ar used as "box" name.
22 October 2014, 07:42

Hi Tim,
"Real Space Models" and "RealSpace Models" are the same company -
SCM Brand: No longer exists
SCM Brand: No longer exists
The letter head used by the company would suggest "RealSpace models" is more correct, but I feel listing it this way will cause issues, maybe the company can be self-referencing under one data entry?
Thanks
22 October 2014, 09:22

Hi Tim,
there is a topic called "Battleship Scharnhorst". But the Scharnhorst was not a Battleship, it was a Battlecruiser. Can you rename the topic? The correct name is: "Battlecruiser Scharnhorst-Class"
Groetjes
SCM Topic: No longer exists

Hi Tim, is there a option for editing links to inbox reviews? For example I made a mistake and added a link to the wrong item, but I can't remove or change it 😳 🤔
24 October 2014, 09:44

Hey Ive the problem again that my stash and wishlist arent updating correctly - again 😭
27 October 2014, 17:21

Some products are dissapearing and appearing in my stash again and again!
27 October 2014, 17:53

it seems that if you have a kit on your wishlist, and then you add it to your stash afterwards, that is stays as in your wishlist..
28 October 2014, 08:42

For some days the "hot products" are shown above "new on the web".
I can only speak for myself, but I find the "new on the web" much more interesting than "hot products".
I'd appreciate to see the "new on the web" again above" hot products.
28 October 2014, 15:09

Can you add ISO country code XK for Kosovo? That is the temporary code international organizations are using until the ISO formally assigns one.
30 October 2014, 22:21

@Bart: Thx! it seems to be the same issue as soeren pointed out. So when my assumption is correct, they should all be now in the correct spot?
1 November 2014, 10:09

Hi Tim,
when you click on "Same topic" of an item, theb search opens, but with no result. Only when you remove the quotation marks and click again on search, then it works.

1 November 2014, 11:42

Another one - found that my album "Various" is gone, despite I haven't deleted it.
1 November 2014, 11:43

@Frank: Good catch with the "Same topic" not working. Several other topic related links had the same issue. These are all fixed.
2 November 2014, 08:35

Hi Tim,
have you noticed that when a new gallery article comes in and bears any words with special characters (e.g. ä, ö, ü) that the word is cut off before that character? See screenshot as an example:
2 November 2014, 20:52

And another one - I nearly scrolled my ass off to find this thread. Would it be possible to have also a search function for the news feed? I tried to use the Firefox search, but it didn't work for the news.
2 November 2014, 20:57

The following three product pages are all for the same boxing of the same kit. Is there a way to merge them without everyone losing their information on it?
Macchi MC 202 Folgore (Hasegawa JT32, 1:48)
Macchi C.202 Folgore (Hasegawa 09132, 1:48)
Macchi C.202 Folgore (Hasegawa JT32, 1:48)
3 November 2014, 16:04

merged to Macchi C.202 Folgore (Hasegawa 09132, 1:48) ! only the the release year of 2008 and the "new tool" sounds a bit strange
3 November 2014, 16:11

I found another pair of duplicates in the Macchi C.205's. This time one of them is basically empty and can just be deleted.
Macchi MC 205 ANR (Hasegawa 09754, 1:48)
3 November 2014, 23:04

Can you merge:
Messerschmitt Bf 109C (Hobbycraft HC1567, 1:48)
into:
Messerschmitt Bf 109C (Hobbycraft HC1567, 1:48)
4 November 2014, 00:29

Hi Tim, I would like to attach an album to the (0., )
How can this be done?
On the event page I can't start an album, on my album page I can't link an album to events, only to projects. Is there a way to do it?
5 November 2014, 11:20

Please change topic of your album to:
Expo - Jiří Vojta Memorial
5 November 2014, 11:25

Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. M w/Wading Muffler (Dragon 6558, 1:35) is broken to me. Only goes till timeline and never loads the rest.
5 November 2014, 12:05

I think these are in fact the same company - VEB Plasticart Zschopau:
SCM Brand: No longer exists
SCM Brand: No longer exists
9 November 2014, 14:49

I think this is a double:
Fanhansa Siegerflieger (Revell 01111, 1:144)
Boeing 747-8 (Revell 01111, 1:144)
10 November 2014, 13:19

I think here's something wrong
Horse Drawn Convoy (Italeri 6437, 1:35)
There's a Thread started by Roland where Roland and Frank talk about the first Book of the Clervaux Diorama ( SCM Book: ).
So this discussion should be on the page of the book, I guess.
10 November 2014, 16:50

I think that reviews, which are supposed to be on the site of the "Modellbauclub Wyland", lead to China... have a look at this review, for example! F-16CJ (Block 50) Fighting Falcon (Hasegawa 00448, 1:72) . I'm not sure if I have seen other links, but I think that's not the only wrong one.
10 November 2014, 17:39

Hi Tim, one mate has issue with having project in his project list. Please check it over here: scalemates.com/whatsnew.php?topic=1255064
13 November 2014, 14:23

The first two entries in this timeline is doubles with this one that is a correct listing. Hanomag Sd.Kfz. 251/1 (Tamiya 35020, 1:35)
14 November 2014, 16:04

There seems to be a few old Tamiya kits in the database with a faulty serial number! This for example. Pkw.K1 (type 82) Kübelwagen (Tamiya 3506, 1:35) The correct serial number should be #35006
14 November 2014, 16:41

I saw the 251 yesterday. Look closely and you will see that these are different boxes. And Tamiya did the MM numbers for a while.
14 November 2014, 18:30

Here's two that can be merged. The second one is the one which is fully correct:
Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt I..ot Tube (Master 32059, 1:32)
A-10 Thunderbolt II - GAU-8 ..ube (Master AM-32-059, 1:32)
14 November 2014, 21:43

Can somebody please delete the double?
Tool Clips German Double! (Eduard TP005, 1:35)
Vehicle Tool Clips (Eduard TP005, 1:35)
17 November 2014, 22:55

Huh? That's weird? Is it my fault for creating a double? 😮 or was that one without the image created after my version already existed?
I created the one with the image of the clips but I always do a thorough search before adding anything. I'm pretty sure there wasn't an entry for this item before I added my version?
If it was my fault, please accept my apologies!
17 November 2014, 23:04

Hmm.. now I'm confused 😛 I don't think I added any of those 😛 lol
17 November 2014, 23:06

It´s not about blaming someone John, things tend to happen (even if you weren´t responsible at all)😉
Based on the internal product number (check url) I´d say the one without picture was created much later. All relevant data is in the one with the picture, which you have in you stash.
17 November 2014, 23:43

Haha! I understand😉 it's not blame anyone indeed 🙂 but I just felt bad 😄 since I'm the only one with this one in my stash I probably did create that item 🙂 correctly too. So phew! 😄😉 lol
And yeah, good call, checking the internal ID 👍 didn't think of that.
Anyway, indeed, the "no image" one can go 🙂
18 November 2014, 00:13

It is possible to create multi topic for decal sheet whit multi airplane models ?
19 November 2014, 00:11

It used to be done so that the decals would appear with both subjects but the filters are much improved now so there should be no need for duplicates
19 November 2014, 00:16

@VILLIERE Julien: As far as I know, it's one topic per item. I've been wondering too if it would be possible to use multiple topics. This would also be useful for sets that have multiple kits in one box (like the Airfix "Dogfight Doubles" )
@Tim: would it be possible to implement this or would it cause too much conflict with other features on the site (like the Timeline)?

I find it inconsistent, that some british ships are listed as "H.M.S.", others as "HMS". Not nitpicking, more a general item.
25 November 2014, 14:40

You are not alone Alex. I am not happy about some german WWII entries, some start with the Somderkraftfahrzeug number, others with the name.
25 November 2014, 17:41

I think it´s about product names, their inconsequent spelling is a quite a few times an issue, even with the search engine. Searching for "Stug III Ausf. A" gets me 13 kits while "Stug III Ausf.A" (Without space between Ausf. and the following letter) generates only 3 results.
It seems to be the case with most of other designations
scalemates.com/search-solr.p..tug+III+Ausf.A&qs=Search
25 November 2014, 18:15

I am talking about topic names. Product names should be like on the box, for example the famous whells set Sd.Kfz. 251 Wheels & Tracks (AFV Club AF35043, 1:35) 😉
25 November 2014, 18:17

Problem with that is, such kits are impossible to find via the search... We should consider correcting such obvious spelling mistakes. The Brumbar for example: scalemates.com/search-solr.p..amp;q=brummbar&qs=Search
25 November 2014, 18:23

Topics: i agree
Productnames: i don't agree! If there is an issue finding items we should fix the search engine
25 November 2014, 18:49

The Brummbar example is similar but not the same. Many times it was entered as Brummbar while it was on the box as Brummbär
25 November 2014, 18:58

...
@TIM...
The Brummbar example is a good one, I have not got " ä " on my keyboard if I type it, it will come out " a " so...
I always copy and paste it as I did here... But not everybody will do that or think of doing it, this is just me sympathizing for people who hadn't thought of my way of dealing with this problem!!!
25 November 2014, 19:38

Propagating change so searching for Stug.III or Stug III or Stug. III will return same results
25 November 2014, 19:43

Please check! Pz Kpfw IV or Pz.Kfw.IV or Pz.Kfw. IV all give same results now
25 November 2014, 20:06

Tim,
In the example below, I am wondering about the prefix and postfix fields...
The instructions say they should contain references to time/country/units. But then certainly "Heavy 4WD" should not be included in the prefix and "Schwerer Lkw 4,5 t" should definitely not be present in the postfix... in my opinion?
If I understand correctly, it should have been:
Prefix: WWII German
Title: Heavy 4WD Cargo Truck L 4500 A Schwerer Lkw 4,5 t
Postfix: [nothing]
Or am I wrong?

Maybe merge Fokker E.I, Fokker E.II, Fokker E.III and Fokker E.IV to Fokker Eindecker? They are all the same except the engine. Next to this they exist also under Fokker M.5 and Fokker A.II and Fokker A.III
28 November 2014, 12:03

Same with the Fokker E.V and Fokker D.VIII, both are the same as D.VIII (best known) is a re-designation for the E.V.
28 November 2014, 12:26

@Mike: no clue, I changed it and it remained
@John: will answer this weekend
@Günther: would from a tooling perspective an E.II also be based on the E.I (or any other mix)
28 November 2014, 12:42

@SCM/Tim: yes. as all the Fokker E's have the same fuselage structure. And for the E.V and D.VIII they are totally the same.
28 November 2014, 12:44

Wouldn´t it be helpful to merge these topics?
MAN 5t mil gl SCM Topic: MAN KAT1
MAN 7t mil gl SCM Topic: No longer exists
MAN 10t mil gl SCM Topic: No longer exists
Basically the same vehicle but with different cargo beds. It would make it easier to find after market stuff.
New topic name could be "MAN KAT I"
28 November 2014, 13:05

Tim, same goes for the Hanriot HD.1 and HD.2, the latter being simply a water-based version of the first.
28 November 2014, 13:10

I'll try again 🙂 What about merging
Sturmhaubitze III SCM Topic: No longer exists and
Sturmgeschütz III SCM Topic: Sturmgeschütz III
And change

@HK: Merged to Sturmgeschütz III, the 231/232 suggestions needs some thinking
29 November 2014, 20:07

Is there currently an issue with the timeline? Or is it just a problem with the Italeri #6502 kit? See image below.
30 November 2014, 02:49

@John: fixed, it was a specific issue for 6502. Multiple issues at the same time
1) The kit shown twice was linked to 2 older kits. (in 99.999999% of the cases, only one link is required)
2) The kit from 2006 was removed from the database although it is clearly NOT a double
The combo of these 2 issues resulted in the messed up timeline.
30 November 2014, 06:29

Thanks Tim! 👍
Some additional info (if it is helpful): when I editted the item, there was no link to an older kit (at least, not visible in the edit mode). But when I added the link to the 2003 kit (I saw only one older kit, not two), it started showing the two items in the timeline (of which one was pointing to a version of the older kit that indeed appeared to have been deleted and wasn't available in the link section in edit mode).
So I think: not seeing a linked item in edit mode for kit #6502 + adding the link to the one available older kit = set off the issue.

KV-1 model 1942 Heavy Cast Turret (Trumpeter 00359, 1:35)
it is called KV-I instead of KV-1, and so you can't see it when searching.. it's only by the timeline then that it shows...
1 December 2014, 09:19

Possible double? :
Tyrannosaurus (Tamiya 60102:2200, 1:35)
Tyrannosaurus Diorama set (Tamiya 60102, 1:35)
Numbers are the same (with only the small addition on one), box art same, kit certainly the same - but not sure if this number difference represents a rebox or not.
Thanks
1 December 2014, 14:36

@ Soeren, it seems not searching on KV-1 gives other results then KV-I

4 December 2014, 06:32

@Vegard: Yes, this s because there are "2 new tools". One in 2007 and one in 2008. So if the kit of 2008 is a rebox = click edit timeline and correct the data. After that it will show as one.
4 December 2014, 06:35

Ah, ok! That's a good way to show the different kinds of tools 🙂
4 December 2014, 09:52

Troy's Engine has been merged, but I doubt it's Airfix. It seems to be Hays as Company. Who can confirm?
5 December 2014, 06:06

...
I doubt it's Airfix as well reading the back of the box here:
auctiva.com/hostedim..s=0,0,0&format=0 I'd say it's more likely Trumpeter or similar... I know Monogram did the original visible Engines now being re-released by Revell, but this seems different🤔
5 December 2014, 08:07

You can buy these models at any Post office or super cheap auto shops here in Oz. :-/
5 December 2014, 08:14

I've set it to Haynes. The company already existed in the db.
5 December 2014, 08:15

...
Hey! Günther just to mix things up a bit and confuse matters more I just found this:
Ebay.co.uk Item - NEW NSI Motor Works Visible Working 4 Cylinder Engine 49013 NIB
I know! I know I'm a pain in the proverbial bottom 😄
5 December 2014, 08:31

Other box art, thus another entry. You can add it to the db with company NSI.
This will be one of those kits that have been reboxed by several companies.
5 December 2014, 09:22

Sorry for the confusion - I looked up 'Haynes' and all the kits with a Haynes boxing showed as Airfix - which is how I found the 'Haynes - Airfix' listing of the engine - wasn't sure of how it should be listed (ie under 'Haynes' or under 'Airfix' (kit showed up under the 'unknown company' banner on the contribute page)) so posted it here for further guidance.
Kerry - I too saw these in Oz, thought it looked familiar to those Aust. Post kits.
Cheers

Kerry that's the power of the internet...
It has made the World a whole lot more smaller, by making information and communication far more accessible even in the most remotest places on Earth!!! Power to the People😢

I was meaning the fact that you can see model kits of see through engines in a Post Office now, a most obscure place to find one.
5 December 2014, 11:04

Definitely the power of the internet - I just hope my search 'engine' isn't see-through!! 🙂

5 December 2014, 17:58

tim, regarding the post on the Lindberg 1925 Model T Street Rod the previous 14 links seems just about right if price changes are counted as new boxes. The lindberg Instructions still show the Pyro Rebel hearder. before Pyro, it was the Palmer Tiger Vat starting with the 29 cent "new tool." The texan variation shares many common parts and is also in the history as are the Jersey Bounce and Yankee Doodle. I had this all explained and corrected. The two linked lindberg are not product ( kit) related and should be removed. they are TOPIC related but not tool related.
5 December 2014, 21:52

@phil: you can only have one previous link (based on). The kit it is based on of course can be based on another kit and so forth.
5 December 2014, 21:58

tim, I well understand the single tool. Tte correct one is not there anymore. it should be the Palmer Tigetcat (29 cent box). The product timeline links to about a dozen kits related to the one new tool was correct. The two kits shown now are not based on the same tool as eachother nor the 25 T street rod and should be removed. I m perplexed by your answer in so much as I was specific about the one kit that was the new tool.
5 December 2014, 22:52

A) I have a father, my father has a father, he also has a father, he also has a father....x 14
is different than
B) I have 14 fathers.
The initial post was about 1 kit having 14 father! I said this is NOT correct and this was corrected (=removed all links to the 14 fathers). That is all which was done.
Rereading your posts for a 2nd, 3rd ,4th time. I guess you want to say: "Tim please check, there is something messed up"
6 December 2014, 08:51

@Phil: Next to the 14 fathers issue, there is another issue (scalemates database related, not data entry related) which messes up (f*cks up is a better word) the timeline of the Ford 1925 topic. Let me dig in
6 December 2014, 09:16

@Phil: 1925 Ford Model T Street Rod (Lindberg 72146, 1:32) => should this one be assigned to topic: "Ford Model T" or a "Ford 1925"?
6 December 2014, 09:27

Not directed at me, I know - however my vote is for one topic - "Ford Model T", based on the fact the Model T was produced from 1908 to 1927, so it becomes a database issue - do you want one topic per year (20 odd topics) or the one topic. One topic seems more simply and straight forward - also it avoids the issue of Model T kits which don't list the years, is it a 20, 21 or 25, or should I choose just Model T? While I see the point of splitting certain topics by year, this one seems unneeded. Anyway that's my 2 cents.
Troy
6 December 2014, 09:35

Btw, if you place model in wishlist and then put it in stash, it still will be on wishlist, not stash!
6 December 2014, 12:34

...
@Edgars... You must take it off wishlist before you add it to stash!!!
Database will not recognize it in both at once...
6 December 2014, 12:49

Do you move the model from Wishlist to Stash or do you have one model in Wishlist and then you add another to Stash ?
Usually I move Models from Wishlist to Stash and didn't have any problems so far.
6 December 2014, 13:45

The Model T Ford was the only only car offered in model years 1909 thru 1927. The brass age Fords . end with the 1916 ( the 1915 & 16 being a transitional model year offering). The 25-27 introduce a new larger hood and smaller wheels. the analogy to the P-51, the 09-16 are like the allisons, 17-20 like the B/C and 21-24 like the D/K while the 25-27 are like the H. Thisis background only to guide your decision. it is not a recommendation. The point being that you can not really get to a 1910 Ford from a 1925 than you can get to an P-51A from an H kit.
Tim, anything starting with the Palmer Tiger Cat and removing the Kookie and Wild T will be a great improvement.
6 December 2014, 14:12

...
@Dirk & Burkhard...
That's what I do as well, but I think Edgars is clicking the green + mark next to the kit database entry and not through the wishlist entry!!!

9 December 2014, 18:58

When filling in the form for after market decal sheets. As soon as you're on the third listing the auto-fill drop down meny stops working. It's a tad annoying when you're entering a decal sheet with a lot of options.
9 December 2014, 23:04

Workaround:
1. Fill in the name and Usage as often as you need
2. Save and View product
3. Start again et voila ato-fill works.

Is it just me or is ScaleMates suffering from some lag? It takes quite a bit of time to load pages sometimes. I especially notice this when going to / refreshing the News Feed.

Thanks Tim! Glad to hear the root cause of the issue is known, at least. Hope you can get a handle on it soon 👍
10 December 2014, 22:55

well we have 2 tables with more than 10 million records, and 5 with more than 1M...
10 December 2014, 23:04

Wow! That's quite a LOT! That will make queries slow... no matter what database engine is used 😮
10 December 2014, 23:15

Just out of curiosity, as one tech guy to another, are you going to use Data Partitioning to solve this large tables issue? Or is that not possible with the database engine running ScaleMates?
I'm not a database/SQL expert by the way but I'm just curious how issues like these are usually handled 🙂

There is something wrong with the timeline of this kit:

There seem to be two entries for the kit in the timeline and it is somehow linked to a totally unrelated item. See attached screenshot.

I have been experiencing a small annoyance for a while now. I'm not sure if this should be attributed to the browser I'm using or to the way ScaleMates caches / loads images. I think it is the latter though.
Whenever I view the timeline of a kit in which I need to scroll to view the images to the right, the images are not pre-loaded but rather load the moment they come into view. Unfortunately, loading the images does not happen automatically when they come into view. I have to scroll the page up/down a bit to make the timeline control refresh and load the images.
It's better to show you what I mean😉 please view the video I have linked to at the end of this post.
Now, it's not a big problem, of course. But it is getting kind of annoying to be honest😉
I am using firefox, by the way, and I know firefox has been having some issues related to images. So I have waited (for several months!) for those issues to be solved. They are solved now and those changes have been publicly released in updates. At this point I have no idea if this is a SCM issue or a Firefox (and maybe more browser's) issue.
Is there something that can be done to remedy the situation?
Link to video: www.johnvk.com/scalemates/SCMtimelineimages.wmv
27 July 2015, 08:11

That's a bit like my problem where I have to click on another tab and then return in order to see pictures when I scroll down. Also when I look through an album by clicking on the photos I once in a while experience that some photos doesn't show at all, same there, click on another tab and return and the photo is in place.
27 July 2015, 08:16

@ScaleMates: sorry for posting in this thread, by the way, but the other one you linked to seems to be gone? With regard to the message you posted on December 11th, 2014: "THIS thread is closed...new thread started here: SCM News Feed ... replies on this post will be deleted"
@Urban:
That sounds very much, if not, exactly like what I was experiencing before the image issues in Firefox were solved by the Firefox team. Once I updated to the latest version, those problems were gone and only the one as shown in my video remained.
Are you sure your FF version is up to date? I am running v39.0 at the moment. Or maybe you could remove and re-install FF, so that any caches and other locally stored items are removed. The FF issues I mentioned were more or less directly related to stored items.
27 July 2015, 08:26

I'm using Chrome and it as well as W7 64bit is updated with the very latest updates.
27 July 2015, 08:35

Weird! These image issues are related to image caching/(pre-)loading scripts somehow. So maybe with Chrome it is indeed SCM that is causing the issue?
To be honest, when I was experiencing that problem, with box art images / album images not showing and the need to change tabs and refreshing the page manually, I almost gave up using ScaleMates entirely because of it. It was seriously annoying! That's when I started investigating FF image issues and it turned out to be an FF issue at Heart.
General note:
As far as I can tell (but please don't pin me down on that) and for me personally, all of these image related problems on SCM started when the way images and posts were loaded changed. I mean the "smart loading" method of additional page content when scrolling down or to the right, etc.
27 July 2015, 08:48

I have the feeling that some review lists are cut - example:
scalemates.com/products/revi..&topic=Focke-Wulf+Fw+190
I can see here only Academy, Admiral, Aeromaster, Airfix, Airmodel and AZ Model reviews, then the list seems to be cut, cause I can't see the HB (scalemates.com/kits/135446-hobby-boss-80228-fw190d-9) or the Italeri reviews (scalemates.com/kits/103771-italeri-1128-fw-190-d-9)
