Nathan Dempsey Just bolting everything down and trimming all the trees around the house. The next few days will tell if it comes here or moves North or South of my location. Anyways I've seen so many of these things I pretty much do what this guy does:
Nathan Dempsey Well the work has officially started! As I may have mentioned in earlier posts, this kit had been started for an earlier aborted project. I began thinking I would be way ahead of the curve, but during the first step I realized that was not to be. As you can see from the uploaded image, the fit of the new resin ejection seat is a bit off. I had a completed fuselage, but had to break the nose off and pop the forward fuselage apart to pry out the cockpit and shave it down to make the seat fit.

Stephan Ryll No need to rush Nathan - I remember that I had the chance to take place in a Mirage 3 cockpit - And I must say it's very tidy F-1 is not better

Nathan Dempsey The shaving down of the cockpit tub (and the seat) and I finally have a fitting ejection seat. I'll work tonight on getting the fuselage back together and the nose cone back on.
Stephan: Yes it is a VERY tight fit, but the real one looks tiny too.
Hans: Draken is unresponsive so far... From what I can tell the Mirages over there still have the Spanish markings, but that's WAY too boring for this build.

Nathan Dempsey Well the fuselage and nose cone went back together without any trouble. Went ahead and added nose weight too.

Nathan Dempsey Increased the depth of the kit exhaust using some tubing. Now to paint it...

Nathan Dempsey I usually dont mind it being a little shallow, but this one...
Nathan Dempsey It is technically a "what-if" at this point since I have yet to get any response from Draken. Oh well Pic #1 was off of their website so that's a good starting point. I still need to figure out where the registration numbers will go since the "Draken International " decal is quite large. I may have to reorder the decals in 1:72 just to get a smaller logo.
Jos Jansen You show that you can airbrush a fantastic splinter scheme on a relatively old kit, nice result so far Nathan ...

Slavo Hazucha You really stored some energy for the Aggressor GB Nathan! I did not even manage to comment on the nice seat, now it's so passé with the speed you put into it... Good thing the camo looks so great, at least I can praise that now!

Nathan Dempsey Thanks Laurent, Jos & Slavo!
I had a whole "man-day" without any distractions and once the painting began I really felt the energy of this build Today I did the 3 tones of panel wash.

Nathan Dempsey Thanks Hans! I'm really sold on the Mission Models paint. Nice and tough and needs no thinning. Perfect for washes.
Added shots with the landing gear attached. Now it's off to have family time!

Daniel looks excellent with the wash and bleaching and the black window part is a perfect addition
Nathan Dempsey Working on the aggressor "weapons" and getting the tires painted.

Nathan Dempsey I should be able to work on decals today as I found the registration numbers for Draken's fleet of Mirage F.1s. The codes go from N556EM to N576EM. This info is found by a search on the FAA website. I also found that beyond the more well known aircraft that they fly, that they also have a pair of T-28 Trojans.

Nathan Dempsey Hmmm... I'm going to have to get creative There's absolutely no way the registration codes will fit the fuselage with the giant "Draken International" logo as seen in PIC #1. Sure wish I could talk to a chief mechanic for like 5 minutes.

Nathan Dempsey Started on decals. You can see how the registration codes take up all the space on the rear fuselage. It is more realistic though. The size shown is what the FAA requires. I've decided to move the Draken logo to the intakes.
Slavo: I took the FS colors from the Furball decal sheet Legacy Bug Bandits for VFC-12 as follows: FS36375 - Light Ghost Grey FS36081 - Euro 1 Grey
FS? - Tamiya Flat White (because I had a whole new bottle)
Working on all the little details now. I'll probably call it complete tonight and get pictures up late tonight or tomorrow.

Nathan Dempsey Calling it done. There's a few little things to do like add some chrome where the light should be on the intakes and add a couple of probes (the kit ones are a bit oversized). Not yet sure if Draken is using the intake light. I'll just wait and see. Enjoy
Slavo Hazucha A really nice warm-up Nathan I really like the how the camo turned out & it´s also very interesting for me since I´ll be doing the same basic pattern on a F-18 and am still working on sorting the right greys for the correct impression... Good job & onwards to the next milestone!
