The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild
Better Late Than Never for Dust Off & Paint On :)
Event details
Name: | The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild |
About: | It is probably fair to say that most modelers have a bookcase of procrastination, or some shelves of sloth, drawers of denial, boxes of binge buying and probably more than a few models that they have started years ago and have yet to finish but have kept them because one day they will, eventually, in time, bring them to a grand finale of being done This is the perfect excuse for some rapid builds and to put more models onto the List of Completion. Any models, any era, any scale but you must have started them at least a year or more ago and as many entries as you like, and by started I mean at least one piece deliberately removed from the sprue or the tiniest lick of paint, hell, just opening the box is starting the kit as far as I am concerned and oh yeah, for a little irony, you can take as long as you like. Whilst this isn't a competition and there are no prizes other than the reward of satisfaction at finally getting those old builds off the bench, I would like to encourage people at the end of each month to choose their pick of the month as the final reveals "flood" in ! Think of this more as encouragement than rivalry and I'll put a photo of the pick of the month in the heading picture for the following month Instructions for joining this group build :- for those of us new to group builds on Scalemates I thought it best to put up a little "how to" as it wasn't obvious to me either 1) Scroll down to the Visitors section and click on the button called "Attending this event" 2) Create (or rename) an album and call it exactly this name, no extra dots or dashes etc. - The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild 3) Link it to your chosen project, create one if don't have one. Can be named anything you like. (although this seems optional) 4) Upload at least one photo and hopefully more and you should be in the group build . |

You just have to assign the EXACT name of event (in this case the name of the groupbuild) to the album. No additional words or things like that. The album should be displayed on the event page afterwards.

The whole Groupbuild stuff fizzled out. I think it needs some improvements.
IMO Armorama has the best Groupbuilds on the net. Maybe copy some things for example the thing with the badges, which should work much better on scalemates than on a regular forum.

not familiar with Armorama, but yes it could be better and less fiddly to join a group etc. not to take anything away from Tims efforts etc.

Choppa Nutta Well the TNKR group is a couple of months old now and I can't help but how everyone is getting on
Very nice to see so many people have joined in ! 27 so far, 28 once Steven Gilbert(grumpy) clicks on "attending this event" even though he has TNKR album, not that I mind at all
Anyhow, I was thinking of updating the header picture for the flavour of the month and all that. So I wonder who has a favourite project I should use a picture from ?
Doesn't matter if it is finish or not, just let me know which is your favourite picture from TNKR thus far

Choppa Nutta A big well done to Peter Jenssen for finishing first with his lovely Tamiya 1:48th scale Chance Vought F4U-1/2 Bird Cage Corsair
Nice one Peter your pic can have pride of place until we have our first pic of the month on the 25th for our favourite model in the group, doesn't need to be a finished model just favourite and I'll post a pic of the peoples choice in the header picture, a modest honour I know

Well now, I like the sound of this
Especially with no time limits, restrictions or rules (as such) etc etc etc...
Spent most of the day researching all my started but unbuilt kits, I have several unfinished builds that I've put aside because of one reason or other for a rainy day, It now sounds/looks like a good time to dust em! off and get em! out, finished even...
First up!!! is Jean Todts all Carbon Fibre Ferrari FXX, presented on the QT, to him by luca di montezemolo on behalf of Ferrari... The car Ferrari never built, or so, at least Ferrari claimed. Ferrari said that 'technically' Jean Todt's car doesn't exist, because Ferrari never gave it a build number. Hmmmmm!!! so why is Jean Todt building a museum in Paris, where his Carbon Fibre FXX will be on display???
I started building this kit, coo! let me see now, the Tamiya Ferrari FXX kit came out in 2006, the SMS super detail kit came out about a year later, so, ermmm! somewhere between 2007 and 2008 but things started going well wrong with the build, got well p****d off with it and shelved the B*****d. Having spent a couple of hours looking at it, I now wonder what all the fuss was about, it don't look that difficult to rectify and finish. So to put me in the mood for this KRG, it's where I'm going to start.

sounds awesome, make sure you get some photos up of what it looks like now
One thing I do want to encourage is for people to finish off more than one model in this groupbuild so that their photo album fills up with all their old unfinished kits, one after another, I guess final reveals should be included too as well as the builds obviously
but also have a separate photo album for just the final reveals as well etc.
But whatever people want to do really, this really is a groupbuild for the non committal
Anyway looking forward to seeing the photos as I am not that familiar with Ferrari's as you

Wise decision!
And of course they aren't going to work like you want or expect them to
lol what ARE you thinking!?

No really, they work quite well actually. Just keep the tools wet (but not too wet) so they don't stick to the putty. But I think you already know that
it's more a remark for the other readers that haven't used any of these tools before

haha thankyou for the encouragement, but I am seeing a lot of little mistakes already on the Harrier, the Klear didn't go down evenly and when I left out side in the sun to dry off little flecks of stuff landed in and dried on and removing them is leaving little marks etc plus the wing joins aint great, but I always knew that was going to be the case, I did think about filling them but I don't have the right colour paint anymore to do it and I can't remember what I used, also I wanted this be a fairly rapid completion as I have one or two more to bring the table after this
But that said there are a few things I've got right, fuselage joins and the painting overall is quite neat, almost happy with how the canopy came out, it won't win any competitions but it will look on the sideboard

Thanks!
Yes, it's quite the gathering, right? What do you think it means?
Honestly, the photo etch actually was what initially made me put this one aside. Simply because I wasn't capable of working with it. But now I'm much better equipped, both in tools and in skill, so I should be able to make something out of it
Anyway, indeed this groupbuild is a good excuse to stop being lazy and go finish this kit
it's a really nice kit too

well it is true, every where I look I keep seeing such great work and then I look at my own work and it feels humbling, but inspiring too
Btw, what fo you think of the new logo and header piccy ?
nothing amazing I know but I thought it might suit the theme of the group
the TNKR abbreviation kind of looks like the word tinker as in to fiddle and faff with which somehow seems appropriate

Haha! Yeah, I know what you mean regarding the humbling feeling
I too see so many amazing pieces of art which are both inspiring and depressing (at times)
up to the point where I sometimes ask myself if I'll EVER be able to do something even remotely looking like that!?
And the answer is always a resounding YES!
Anyone can do anything. All they need to do is commit and basically just do it
some are faster than others but I'm convinced anyone CAN do anything. Talented people have the advantage of being able to get quicker to where they want to go but that's about it
less talented people may take longer but they are still also able to get where they want to go
The logo looks great! And "tinker" was indeed the first thing that came to mind when I saw it
LOL and it's certainly fitting!!
Haha! Yeah, I know what you mean regarding the humbling feeling

Cool glad you like it
As for the gifted and talented I do think they will always be able to go that bit further than the rest of us but like you say anyone with the patience and the practice can achieve really good results in time
But it is like anything, you might not win the championship but you can still do well and for me as long as I keep improving I'll be happy (almost
)
My Harrier is looking to be my tidiest model to date, as I am trying to do everything right and avoid the school boy errors and just get the basics sorted out, I'll be keeping the weathering modest on this one

Easing into things always works best for me personally
and yeah, holding back a little on the weathering for the reasons you mentioned I think is a good thing
I'm convinced your Harrier will look top notch once done!

Not sure the two top contenders are the CG-4A from the mid 1980s or the Stug IV from the late 1990s. What do you think?

The CG-4A is an American combat glider used by British and American airborne units in WWII. I spent a few weekends helping to restore the on at the Silent Wings Museum now in Lubbock TX. That was in the mid 8os. I started the kit then but lost interest in it, because I was messing it up. It was a whole lot easier helping a trained glider mechanic that knew what he was doing.

I've got a feeling it might be CG-4A,sounds unusual but cool
Why start off your album with a picture of both models so we can see what you've got to choose from

Choppa Nutta Sweet ! Eleven people in on the first day, awesome
Nice to see that this groupbuild has garnered so much enthusiasm so quickly, but then, the chances of modelers having kits in stasis was always gonna be high, a safe bet as the bookies might say, but I'm glad I created this groupbuild, always interesting to see what people have got stashed, waiting, for the sun
Anyhow, looking forward to seeing the numerous unfinished projects take shape as well as my own Harrier, nice to finally get the dust off and the gloss on

and the n link/attach to your chosen project
hope that helps

Hopefully we'll see people rack up many old builds here

Jonns fault really for his Kits of Shame thread, seemed like most modellers have unfinished kits somewhere that needed a little jog to get them going again

Well... so many kits in the stash, so many ones started, so many more ideas... but so little time - life is hard
I was thinking of starting the Italeri StuG this weekend and as I want to do the Zimmerit with Miliput, I should get plenty of 3 hour setting breaks which I can dedicate on other kits...

Might I be so bold as to suggest your M151A2 jeep seeing as it is a classic vehicle ?
