The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild

Better Late Than Never for Dust Off & Paint On :)

Event details

Name:The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild
Town: GB
About:It is probably fair to say that most modelers have a bookcase of procrastination, or some shelves of sloth, drawers of denial, boxes of binge buying and probably more than a few models that they have started years ago and have yet to finish but have kept them because one day they will, eventually, in time, bring them to a grand finale of being done :)

This is the perfect excuse for some rapid builds and to put more models onto the List of Completion. Any models, any era, any scale but you must have started them at least a year or more ago and as many entries as you like, and by started I mean at least one piece deliberately removed from the sprue or the tiniest lick of paint, hell, just opening the box is starting the kit as far as I am concerned :D

and oh yeah, for a little irony, you can take as long as you like. :D

Whilst this isn't a competition and there are no prizes other than the reward of satisfaction at finally getting those old builds off the bench, I would like to encourage people at the end of each month to choose their pick of the month as the final reveals "flood" in ! Think of this more as encouragement than rivalry and I'll put a photo of the pick of the month in the heading picture for the following month :)

Instructions for joining this group build :-
for those of us new to group builds on Scalemates I thought it best to put up a little "how to" as it wasn't obvious to me either :)

1) Scroll down to the Visitors section and click on the button called "Attending this event"

2) Create (or rename) an album and call it exactly this name, no extra dots or dashes etc. -
The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild

3) Link it to your chosen project, create one if don't have one. Can be named anything you like. (although this seems optional)

4) Upload at least one photo and hopefully more :)

and you should be in the group build :D
.
Contest:The event has no contest

When

Date:1. January until 31. December 2020
Opening hours:Indefinitely..... the end date is merely a place holder so that this group build can be seen in the events list and will continue to have an unlimited extension or until everyone has built and finished all their started but unfinished kits, which of course will be never :)

Location

Town:
Map:Show map
Parking options:Anywhere you like, we don't stand on ceremony in this groupbuild :)

Entrance fees

Entrance fees:Free other than cost of your kits, paints, glues, various tools & brushes and of course your time, but apart from that it is totally free, a bit like the rules :D

Calvin Gifford Not sure how to 'Link' my photo album with the group build. Instead of entering my oldest one - the easiest one was the first one I came across! LOL
22. September 2015 at 07:55:00
Stefan Schneider You just have to assign the EXACT name of event (in this case the name of the groupbuild) to the album. No additional words or things like that. The album should be displayed on the event page afterwards.

Choppa Nutta The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild !!!
Which has ironically become somewhat neglected haha :)
So I am wondering how peoples neglected kits are coming along ?
Anyone finished anything recently or made any progress ?

Here's hoping :D

5. June 2015 at 16:46:53
Choppa Nutta lol, I hope so :)
I've managed to complete 3 of my neglected kits thus and feels good to get them done and dusted :)
I have a few more though :)
5. June 2015 at 17:03:50
H K The whole Groupbuild stuff fizzled out. I think it needs some improvements.
IMO Armorama has the best Groupbuilds on the net. Maybe copy some things for example the thing with the badges, which should work much better on scalemates than on a regular forum.
5. June 2015 at 17:13:23
Choppa Nutta not familiar with Armorama, but yes it could be better and less fiddly to join a group etc. not to take anything away from Tims efforts etc. :)

Choppa Nutta Well the TNKR group is a couple of months old now and I can't help but how everyone is getting on :)

Very nice to see so many people have joined in ! 27 so far, 28 once Steven Gilbert(grumpy) clicks on "attending this event" even though he has TNKR album, not that I mind at all :)

Anyhow, I was thinking of updating the header picture for the flavour of the month and all that. So I wonder who has a favourite project I should use a picture from ?

Doesn't matter if it is finish or not, just let me know which is your favourite picture from TNKR thus far :D

Choppa Nutta A big well done to Peter Jenssen for finishing first with his lovely Tamiya 1:48th scale Chance Vought F4U-1/2 Bird Cage Corsair :)

Nice one Peter your pic can have pride of place until we have our first pic of the month on the 25th for our favourite model in the group, doesn't need to be a finished model just favourite and I'll post a pic of the peoples choice in the header picture, a modest honour I know :)

I hope you'll be bringing a Ferrari to the table, given how posh this event is :D
25. June 2014 at 10:11:56
Steve Wilson Not wanting to let Lord Ashfordly and his posh do down...
And yes!!! as I only build Ferrari's, I will be leaving Ferrari skidmarks on the Pembroke 8) :D
25. June 2014 at 13:28:39
Choppa Nutta lol :)
one nice thing about this event is the variety of the different builds
25. June 2014 at 13:35:52
Steve Wilson Well now, I like the sound of this ;)
Especially with no time limits, restrictions or rules (as such) etc etc etc...
Spent most of the day researching all my started but unbuilt kits, I have several unfinished builds that I've put aside because of one reason or other for a rainy day, It now sounds/looks like a good time to dust em! off and get em! out, finished even...
First up!!! is Jean Todts all Carbon Fibre Ferrari FXX, presented on the QT, to him by luca di montezemolo on behalf of Ferrari... The car Ferrari never built, or so, at least Ferrari claimed. Ferrari said that 'technically' Jean Todt's car doesn't exist, because Ferrari never gave it a build number. Hmmmmm!!! so why is Jean Todt building a museum in Paris, where his Carbon Fibre FXX will be on display??? :S
I started building this kit, coo! let me see now, the Tamiya Ferrari FXX kit came out in 2006, the SMS super detail kit came out about a year later, so, ermmm! somewhere between 2007 and 2008 but things started going well wrong with the build, got well p****d off with it and shelved the B*****d. Having spent a couple of hours looking at it, I now wonder what all the fuss was about, it don't look that difficult to rectify and finish. So to put me in the mood for this KRG, it's where I'm going to start.
25. June 2014 at 14:46:19
Choppa Nutta sounds awesome, make sure you get some photos up of what it looks like now :)
One thing I do want to encourage is for people to finish off more than one model in this groupbuild so that their photo album fills up with all their old unfinished kits, one after another, I guess final reveals should be included too as well as the builds obviously :)
but also have a separate photo album for just the final reveals as well etc.
But whatever people want to do really, this really is a groupbuild for the non committal :D
Anyway looking forward to seeing the photos as I am not that familiar with Ferrari's as you :)

John Van Kooten Wise decision!

And of course they aren't going to work like you want or expect them to :P lol what ARE you thinking!? :D :D

No really, they work quite well actually. Just keep the tools wet (but not too wet) so they don't stick to the putty. But I think you already know that ;) it's more a remark for the other readers that haven't used any of these tools before
25. June 2014 at 22:27:33

25. June 2014 at 23:55:58
Choppa Nutta its all about the under lying metaphors :)
26. June 2014 at 00:28:25
John Van Kooten @Choppa: yes, you! :P ;) but not just you :D haha!
@Fabian: Choppa meant to say that I was referring to him with the "it's more a remark for other readers... ... before" sentence ;) and indeed I was :P
@Leandro: Hahaha! Yes! YES! ;)

@Hunter: the Trumpeter tools are still widely available, so should not really be a problem to get them. They are not too expensive either. For what you get in the package, they are pretty good

This is the toolset: Tools for Zimmerit Coat (Trumpeter 09916, No)

No Tools for Zimmerit Coat (Trumpeter 09916)

Holger Kranich Thank you very much, Choppy!
Feels good to be amongst such ambitious people! ;) ;)
26. June 2014 at 11:35:46
Choppa Nutta I got to say the standard of modelers in this groupdbuild is very high indeed !
I kind feel like the weak link a little bit, or at least, I've got a lot of catching up to do :)
26. June 2014 at 11:41:02
Holger Kranich Dont underestimate you, Choppy!
I bet you will surprise us all with a high class one! :)
26. June 2014 at 12:06:52
Choppa Nutta haha thankyou for the encouragement, but I am seeing a lot of little mistakes already on the Harrier, the Klear didn't go down evenly and when I left out side in the sun to dry off little flecks of stuff landed in and dried on and removing them is leaving little marks etc plus the wing joins aint great, but I always knew that was going to be the case, I did think about filling them but I don't have the right colour paint anymore to do it and I can't remember what I used, also I wanted this be a fairly rapid completion as I have one or two more to bring the table after this :)

But that said there are a few things I've got right, fuselage joins and the painting overall is quite neat, almost happy with how the canopy came out, it won't win any competitions but it will look on the sideboard :)

Steve Wilson You type " The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild " nothing else, no full stops comma's or anything else as the title of your album and save it. Done!!!
I had my signature three full stops at the end of my title and it wouldn't do it...
26. June 2014 at 10:44:23

Choppa Nutta Ah ! Mr Marles, I'm glad you joined in because between Jonns's kits of shame thread and your encouraging words was motivation enough for me to start this groupbuild, seems only fitting you should be part of the groupbuild with the least rules on Scalemates :)

So what you gonna be opening up out of the box of binge buying then ?

Choppa Nutta wow ! 11 people in on the first day :) welcome aboard John :)
Finally, an excuse for the Jagdtiger to become beautiful :D
and with all that photo etch too .....
24. June 2014 at 22:55:00
John Van Kooten Thanks! :)

Yes, it's quite the gathering, right? What do you think it means? :P

Honestly, the photo etch actually was what initially made me put this one aside. Simply because I wasn't capable of working with it. But now I'm much better equipped, both in tools and in skill, so I should be able to make something out of it

Anyway, indeed this groupbuild is a good excuse to stop being lazy and go finish this kit ;) it's a really nice kit too :)
25. June 2014 at 06:14:15
Choppa Nutta I am sure you will make an awesome job of it !
We have high expectations of you John, don't let us down :D
25. June 2014 at 09:27:14
John Van Kooten Uh-oh! High expectations are often followed by disappointment ;) haha! But I'll do my best ;)
25. June 2014 at 09:33:59
Choppa Nutta haha John, I was just teasing :D
But you do good work though so it is difficult not to predict good results from you ;)
25. June 2014 at 09:55:02
John Van Kooten Hahaha! ;) I know, mate :D

And thanks for the big compliment appreciate that very much! :)
25. June 2014 at 10:36:33
Choppa Nutta well it is true, every where I look I keep seeing such great work and then I look at my own work and it feels humbling, but inspiring too :)

Btw, what fo you think of the new logo and header piccy ?
nothing amazing I know but I thought it might suit the theme of the group :)
the TNKR abbreviation kind of looks like the word tinker as in to fiddle and faff with which somehow seems appropriate :)
25. June 2014 at 11:26:34
John Van Kooten Haha! Yeah, I know what you mean regarding the humbling feeling ;) I too see so many amazing pieces of art which are both inspiring and depressing (at times) ;) up to the point where I sometimes ask myself if I'll EVER be able to do something even remotely looking like that!?

And the answer is always a resounding YES!

Anyone can do anything. All they need to do is commit and basically just do it :D some are faster than others but I'm convinced anyone CAN do anything. Talented people have the advantage of being able to get quicker to where they want to go but that's about it :) less talented people may take longer but they are still also able to get where they want to go

The logo looks great! And "tinker" was indeed the first thing that came to mind when I saw it :D LOL and it's certainly fitting!!
25. June 2014 at 12:05:32
Choppa Nutta Cool glad you like it :)
As for the gifted and talented I do think they will always be able to go that bit further than the rest of us but like you say anyone with the patience and the practice can achieve really good results in time :)
But it is like anything, you might not win the championship but you can still do well and for me as long as I keep improving I'll be happy (almost :D )
My Harrier is looking to be my tidiest model to date, as I am trying to do everything right and avoid the school boy errors and just get the basics sorted out, I'll be keeping the weathering modest on this one :)
25. June 2014 at 12:15:36
John Van Kooten Easing into things always works best for me personally :) and yeah, holding back a little on the weathering for the reasons you mentioned I think is a good thing

I'm convinced your Harrier will look top notch once done!
25. June 2014 at 12:40:17
Choppa Nutta shall we reserve judgment just yet ?
I've still got plenty of things I could cock up :)
25. June 2014 at 12:59:00

Wayne Hale Not sure the two top contenders are the CG-4A from the mid 1980s or the Stug IV from the late 1990s. What do you think?
24. June 2014 at 21:06:33
John Van Kooten As an armor modeler I'm obviously pretty biased ;) but I'd say go for the StuG IV
24. June 2014 at 21:58:35
Choppa Nutta well I am going to play devils advocate and say do the CG-4A :D
even though I don't know what CG-4A is :)
which kit did you start first ?
24. June 2014 at 23:33:23
Wayne Hale The CG-4A is an American combat glider used by British and American airborne units in WWII. I spent a few weekends helping to restore the on at the Silent Wings Museum now in Lubbock TX. That was in the mid 8os. I started the kit then but lost interest in it, because I was messing it up. It was a whole lot easier helping a trained glider mechanic that knew what he was doing.
24. June 2014 at 23:57:16
Gordon Sørensen I say do the CG-4A, then I can watch you while I do mine! I am planning on doing the British version, but my decals are missing.
25. June 2014 at 00:22:03
Choppa Nutta I've got a feeling it might be CG-4A,sounds unusual but cool :)
Why start off your album with a picture of both models so we can see what you've got to choose from

Choppa Nutta Sweet ! Eleven people in on the first day, awesome :)
Nice to see that this groupbuild has garnered so much enthusiasm so quickly, but then, the chances of modelers having kits in stasis was always gonna be high, a safe bet as the bookies might say, but I'm glad I created this groupbuild, always interesting to see what people have got stashed, waiting, for the sun :D

Anyhow, looking forward to seeing the numerous unfinished projects take shape as well as my own Harrier, nice to finally get the dust off and the gloss on :)

The time to found how to link my album to the group build
24. June 2014 at 18:10:47
Choppa Nutta I took the liberty of including some instructions on the intro of this group build but basically you need to create or rename your album -

The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild

and the n link/attach to your chosen project
hope that helps :)
24. June 2014 at 18:14:37
Lionel Marco Thanks!
It worked...

Choppa Nutta Welcome aboard the good ship Faff About :)
I wonder what you might be bringing off the shelf and on to the bench ?
24. June 2014 at 02:54:37
Urban Gardini I wonder that to mate as I've got my fair share of started kits that I've put away for various reasons.
24. June 2014 at 05:57:45
Choppa Nutta How many classics have you got in that list ?
Maybe open upThe Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild photo album with some pics of the kits you've got to choose from :)
24. June 2014 at 08:24:35
Urban Gardini I've got a photo somewhere of the drawer with the started kits. So once I get home...
24. June 2014 at 13:12:25
Choppa Nutta Perhaps an idea might be to finish off the oldest kit first ? :)
24. June 2014 at 13:24:50
Urban Gardini Could be, could be...
24. June 2014 at 14:25:49
Choppa Nutta or.... what ever appeals most when you open the drawer again :D

Choppa Nutta Hi Gabor, welcome aboard :)
not heard of this tank before, I look forward to seeing it come together :)
24. June 2014 at 08:58:57
Gábor Bélik Thanks. It is actually together :) except a few bits. The tracks and the re-painting has to be done. It is sitting in my stash for 1,5 year by now. It is a modern AFV.
24. June 2014 at 09:13:14
Choppa Nutta I look forward to the photos :)
24. June 2014 at 09:26:48

babak chalangi i have this F-15 that i started working on befre u can see it on my albums but i dont know how to added to this group !?
24. June 2014 at 10:37:59
Choppa Nutta create a project for the F-15 and link to an album called -

The Neglected Kit Resurrection Groupbuild

You can change the name of your album to the above name, that will work too and then you're in :)

Dutch I'm in! Let's see, I've got the FROG Hunter FGA.9 started 18 months ago and over half a dozen Phantoms started ~28 years ago, plus several kits in between. No end date to this contest, eh? Let me see how many I can complete by summers end. Thank you fo rthe motivation. R/ Dutch
24. June 2014 at 09:45:26 Share
Choppa Nutta haha brilliant ! started 28 years ago ! lol, I suspect thats the most neglected model thus far :)

Hopefully you will be banging them out like prints off a hot press :D
Btw, no contest as such but I might try and encourage people to do their Pick Of The Month as the builds get completed :)

Hopefully we'll see people rack up many old builds here :)
24. June 2014 at 10:07:25
Dutch Great idea!
24. June 2014 at 10:16:05
Choppa Nutta Jonns fault really for his Kits of Shame thread, seemed like most modellers have unfinished kits somewhere that needed a little jog to get them going again :)

look forward to seeing what you will be putting on the bench
24. June 2014 at 09:07:40
Choppa Nutta what have you got to choose from ?
24. June 2014 at 09:10:08
Fabian D. almost all of these: , Completed, Ideas, and the few I recently worked on (Figures, T-34 and Sd.Kfz. 251) excluded... difficult chioces ;)
24. June 2014 at 09:19:10
Choppa Nutta yes ! plenty to choose from !
Given my current Nam fest I've got going on I'd like to see your T-34 despite kicking off my contribution to the Neglected Models with a Sea Harrier :D
24. June 2014 at 09:24:54
Fabian D. :D
Well... so many kits in the stash, so many ones started, so many more ideas... but so little time - life is hard ;)
I was thinking of starting the Italeri StuG this weekend and as I want to do the Zimmerit with Miliput, I should get plenty of 3 hour setting breaks which I can dedicate on other kits...
24. June 2014 at 09:36:32
Choppa Nutta Hopefully finishing these Neglected Kits will make for some quick building :)

Jonns Pfeiffenberger Now I must count first, with which I start ;)
24. June 2014 at 08:27:46
Choppa Nutta Glad you could make it Jonns, especially as you were the inspiration for this groupbuild with your Kits of Shame thread :)
Might I be so bold as to suggest your M151A2 jeep seeing as it is a classic vehicle ?
Given how quickly you built and finished your Strv103B I imagine you'll be making some rapid builds out of your neglected model collection :)

Project: Kits of shame
24. June 2014 at 08:38:36
Jonns Pfeiffenberger That's right but I hope I will find all items to finish. But first I have to finish build a scratchmodel for a contest
24. June 2014 at 08:49:23
Choppa Nutta Luckily this is one groupbuild without a deadline ;)
Your scrath build sounds interesting, what are you making ?
24. June 2014 at 09:02:29
Jonns Pfeiffenberger Any model that fits on a beermate. The theme is free. I now get 3D printing parts and must build it together now with another kit to something beautiful...
24. June 2014 at 09:10:25
Choppa Nutta wow, sounds really cool :)
24. June 2014 at 09:25:30
Jonns Pfeiffenberger I hope I will be ready by July 15 - that's the deadline ;(
24. June 2014 at 09:29:16
Choppa Nutta For you that is plenty of time !!
looking forward to the photos, I hope you will be posting some here on Scalemates :)
24. June 2014 at 09:31:51
Jonns Pfeiffenberger Last week I had 4 days free... If I can do it then I show them already. But only after the competition
