very nicely done gorbygould. beautiful. You only forgot to add the kit to the project, since i believe it is not "scratchbuilt" right? 😉

Great build with a great story behind it, outstanding work !

..and you remembered to blank out the landing light on the leading edge. Apparently the rocket exhausts melted the Perspex so they had to do a quick field change. Nice project!

Ulf Petersen
Very well done, Gorby!👍
Interesting story, sorry for your dog!

Thanks Hanno, Eastlancs & Ulf
Unfortunately my brother-in-laws sister threw away most of Nibby's service stuff, including his flight books and many photos (he was a member of a crash investigating team after the war) so his claim can't be proved now. Nibby claimed the 'kill' long before the Allies knew of Rommel's injury, so I don't know why it was attributed to another pilot.
I do have some of Nibby's photos – I'll put them on SCM sometime.
Thanks Ulf about Amber.

Thanks for your kind comments Tim, Stephan and Gary. I forgot to mention that this isn't my latest build, I did it a few months ago.

Tim: It's a very good kit, I enjoyed building it a lot. The one issue with the build that I had, was that it was a bugger to get the chin radiator central when the fuselage halves went together, so watch out for that.

Gary: It's one of my all time fav's as well. I don't know if you saw one of 'Eastlancs' builds which showed a prototype without the chin radiator – very interesting.

Just looked at your Tyhoon, great build! I have the little one(1:72) of Airfix in my stash

Thanks very much Pete - I find 1/72 too small to work on these days, I think I'll have to go to 1/24 eventually. 😉

Thanks Arron, Wilky and Bill, The quality of the kit helped enormously, I would highly recommend it.
Wilky: 'Nibby' had a remarkable life – I look forward to my brother-in-law telling me about him. Unfortunately most of Nibby's photo's and other documentation were thrown away by his daughter after his death. Because she wasn't interested in them, she thought that no one else would be! aaarrrggghhhh!!!!

I lived with a woman once that loved to throw out everything except her clothes. It was very annoying to get final notices for unpaid bills because she had thrown out the original as it looked untidy stuck to the front of the fridge. I don't live with anyone now and have never had a reminder notice for a bill since I kicked her out

Thanks for your comment Kamal.
Wilky: Trying to understand a woman's thought process isn't part of my job description, so I'm not going to venture onto that rocky road - that way madness lies.

Check out the cow in that diorama album, pic 31. My sense of humor. The reason for the purple bull is that the fellow who commissioned it was my hall-mate at Bishop's University, and that our varsity football home jerseys, you guessed it, were purple.

Chris Vandegrift
I really like the weathering. Thanks for adding the in progress pic too as that will help me on my next build. Love the background info especially.

Album info

To prove I don't just do Luftwaffe stuff.

I did the 'Jasper' version in memory of my beloved dog Amber, who I miss every day.

Out of the box build other than the Eduard zoom.

Warning – Waffle ahead.
One of my many brother-in-laws is called Tony Fellows. Why am I telling you this? Because his dad was an RAF fighter pilot during WWII – 'Nibby' Fellows. He flew many different aircraft during and after the war (apparently second only to Eric 'Winkle' Brown in the different types he flew). The Typhoon was a particular favourite of his. On 17 July 1944, he was flying his Typhoon over Normandy looking for something to pump lots of holes in. He saw a German staff car with motorcycle out-riders, so he attacked – doing the aforementioned hole thingy. This is the exact day, and in the same area, that Rommel suffered major head injuries as a result of being strafed in his staff car. Some other pilot got the credit, but me and my brother-in-law know the real story (well, our version of it anyway).
