Brabham F2

Album image #1
Jack Brabham drove many of his own creations and won multiple world championships in them. Among the Formula 1 and 2 championships was the 1966 Formula 2 powered by a Honda four cylinder engine.

Album image #2
Most who know me know I am an unabashed fan of EBBRO Formula kits. This one doesn’t disappoint either. Very few mould lines are on the kit but the body is where a couple did appear. These are before and after shots after getting some attention.

Album image #3
Album image #4
The engine will be mostly hidden so no wiring will be done to this one.

Album image #5
The transmission done in Alclad aircraft frame aluminium.

Album image #6
The engine casting is done in Alclad Hi Shine Aluminium.

Album image #7
The fuel tanks done in Alclad Stainless Steel

Album image #8
There are two body panels joined here. The join should be well hidden by the UMP primer.

Album image #9
Another shot of the same joined parts.

Album image #10
Exhaust pipes were done in chrome along with many other parts. Removed (mostly) with a bleach bought at Aldi.

Album image #11
Chrome parts skinned alive. The bleach was far from successful. It does remove Hasegowa chrome well but doesn’t work at all with Italari and not particularly well on EBBRO chrome.

Album image #12
Disc brakes done with Alclad Stainless Steel and calipers covered with Tamiya Clear Green.

Album image #13
Chassis coming together. I have used different shades of grey for some parts so they are highlighted rather than go with the listed colour on all parts.

Album image #14
I have to get those exhausts paired up better!

Album image #15
Album image #16
Album image #17
A tight fit for many parts on the rear suspension. So tight in fact many didn’t need cement at all.

Album image #18
Album image #19
Decals are few and far between

Album image #20
The rolling chassis completed

Album image #21
The potential to add detail is very present

Album image #22
The front suspension and steering

Album image #23
Radiator and supplied plumbing

Album image #24
Album image #25
Fuel filter has four mounting points for plumbing. I should have researched this better.

Album image #26
So much complexity!

Album image #27
Album image #28
Not a lot of driver space in the cockpit

Album image #29
More detail on the supplied radiator hoses

Album image #30
Album image #31
Next step is to clean up the plastic and add the clear coat. I will be sealing it all in with SMS 2k.

Album image #32
Ok, this after 2k application. A bit of orange peel that needs removal

Album image #33
After sanding with 6,000, 8,000 and finally 12,000 then cut back with a cutting compound.

Album image #34
After polish.

Album image #35
Waxed and ready to fit

Album image #36
All 3 pieces of bodywork.

Album image #37
The bodywork didn’t quite fit tight despite making sure the 2k didn’t get into the contact area.

Album image #38
Martin Oostrom told me how to camber the wheels.

Album image #39
Engine on display, no electrics on this one.

Album image #40
Still not sure about Martin’s wheel cambering

Album image #41
Ready to button up

Album image #42

Album image #43
Now, where’s that chequered flag?

Album image #44
Which way does the track go and what’s the lap record?

Jon, I used to use Mr Muscle but the bleach came recommended. It is very good on Hasegowa though.
Thanks Spanjaard! Looking forward to painting the body.

This one looks like it would have been fun. Turned out great! I'll have to ask Martin how to camber wheels for future builds.

Came out just wonderful, mate. Definitely got the gloss figured out!
Practice does make perfect after all.
Is the camber fixed as well? 🙂

Rene, it might be easier to fix Martin, as one does with their cat!
