Clear satin was laid down and it didn't hide the shiny decals all that well. 🙁 99% are OK, but some look like there is some silvering, and that depends on what angle your looking at it from.

The little white spots are from the satin coat of clear and the grains of talcom that have made it through the filter I used. 🙁 The clear orange will be cleaned off and painted again.

Every other decal here is perfect except for a couple that look like silvering has happened, but as I say, it all depends on what angle you see them from.

These decals went down beautifully. You will notice the 'slime light' is not as pronounced as the kit location, having reduced it's height and bought them down to a more realistic look instead of the 'BOX' that was there.

It looks OK. And I cant really complain, except the 'Aussie Decals' were a real piss off. Poorly printed, no colour and the carrier film was like a neon light in the middle of the night. 🙁 !

The nose cone is attached with clear fix, and that allows me to remove it with no damage, for exposing the TFR I have painted up using a photograph I took 25 years ago when they first exposed the F-111 to the general public.

Slavo, I was thinking about that aspect when I was looking at the lugs holding the wings forward and how easy it would be to have the wings folded, especially with the alteration needed for the 'curtains' the wing passes through in the fuselage. YES. I think it would be quite possible, as the weapons stores location on the wings seems to allow for the folded position too. 😉

Augie, I am depending on you for some hints ant tips with the brush aspect as I will be doing a fair bit in the cockpit area, even though I have the decals. ! 😉.

Augie, that is one hell of a compliment my friend. 🙂 👍 so, you keep a sharp eye on this build, because, I will have some invaluable tips and hints for you all, dealing with the fit issues that Hobby Boss have not addressed and that that is especially around the cockpit area and how and what to trim to get it to sit right without using the jaws of death to make it happen. ! ! ! and also, the replacement of static electricity discharge wicks on the trailing edges of the tail and elevators that will always be getting bent or broken off and how to avoid that from happening and making them look even MORE realistic than what comes in the box, and the detail for that effort will be found in the 'Boneyard Wrangler' post here. . !

James, the hard ware will be getting built and attached to the pylons, but attached (if I do ), at the very last couple of seconds, though I would like to do a weapons spread on the ground like you see in so many promotional images that came with the F one eleven to show just how capable these animals were in carrying an iron foundry underwing. 👍 🙂

There really are a lot of areas that need 'trimming' to have them fit properly and with ease, so I will post all I find in images with text and some hints on how I went about overcoming these other wise simple fit bits.

I have just finished masking up the base of the model ready for the matt black. !
The kit goes together surprisingly fast, but I guess having built two others, familiarity helps a wee bit. 🙂
I have been using 'clear fix' to hold the clear parts in place as I go about the spraying, and freezer bags are a lot of fun to use with blu tak putty for the cammo pattern on the upper surfaces. 👍
More about that later. 😉

Would be great to find an actual use for Humbrol Clear Fix - so far it´s the most overpromise/underdeliver material in my collection - looking great when applied and collapsing into a "empty snake-skin" heap after drying...😉

I have had my dramas, and now, I am picking little white spots off the body work from the talcum lumps in the dull coat that got past my gauze filter, 🙁

Unfortunately, we have hands that must always be handling the bloody thing, and with that, some paint wares off that I will have to hairy stik back to health. :-/

Kez, if you ever give up building models you can start a career in photographing them. My favourite part of this build might surprise you, I just love the red slats, they remind me of a fish showing it's gills! I guess for me it shows the third dimension to the plane. I do have a question though, and it is a little weird but how do you ensure all your tyres touch the base? Do you have a process? No doubt all aero builders have an approach but yours is?

The bomb load is something that I just don't like, even with the lot we have in the kit, I will not be slinging any iron.

Kerry, not a trick question. The nose wheels are a dual wheel set up, that makes four tyres on the tarmac. Most builds end up with one on the deck and one in the air. You NEVER do, how?

Great looking & pimped engine, & a really cool scratch cooler😉 👍 The HB kit concept is a little bit of a mystery to me - providing a decent base for this type of engine presentation, which normally gets hidden inside the fuselage & stay invisible, but no intake ducts to actually lead to the engine, which is at least a partially visible part of the kit...

Also the clear parts job looks excellent. The Parrafilm solution seems a great way to go, need to check if there is a continental Europe equivalent! (not the case with Future... 🙁 )

Is the interior side of the canopy just painted black or did you apply some tape/material for the black layer?

Slavo. I applied the parrafilm to both sides of the clear parts and removed with a new scalpel blade the film that was covering the parts I needed to paint.
It takes just finger pressure to squeeze the film into position, but not that much that your going to start the shatter effect and spoil everything.
As you know, there is a difference in both sides of the access windows, internally and externally, and with the parrafilm, the differenced are more pronounced/obvious as the film is gently squeezed into place.

I have been around for a few years, but it's only since I have been with SM that I have really started to enjoy my hobby, and mastering how to use 'Paint' and the text and paint brush, I have been able to translate some of what I do and find into something that I can pass on tips and trick to all you lads and lassies.

I have the same issue also. I think I will try and paint mine. The Acadmey sheet doesn't have them and I don't think the Carcal sheet I am using has them either. I am not sure if the Dark Vark's had them. I will have to do some research and find out.

Not many actually had the yellow at all, as it was usually the white detonator cord that was obvious, but was useless to have it, as the whole cockpit module was the only way of escaping a damaged bird, and there was a fail safe system of opening the access windows when complete exit from the module was necessary.
Cosmetic I call it really. "Lipstick". 😉

Very nicely done, nice camo too. Don't knew the wingroots could turn like that.
With regards to the ejection: ejectionsite.com/f111.htm very elaborate but no mention of detcord in the canopy. Could also be some insulation as seen on Russian aircraft.

@ yellow canopy lines - sometimes we need Mr. Kerry Cox to remind us what's actually in the box... Working with the Aussie decals, I completely forgot I got these too on the HB decal sheet... 😄

The HB decals are not that bad really.
But one thing I did notice s the 'walkway' and 'No Step' are back to front and it would have been wiser to trim them off and place them in the right positions and correct way . Other than that, a good decal sheet. 😉
