I used the brass cannon tubes from a Master Model set for the MiG-19.

Scratch built Radar Warning Receivers on the rear part of the tail. An addition on the Pakistani A-5C.

A tear drop shaped plate with the front RWR that was added to both sides of the fuselage. This was seen on many of my research photos.

The A-5C is equipped with many Western parts including the ejection seat. Research says a MB seat. I found this resin seat in the parts bin and it definitely looks better than the kit part.

Resin seat installed and a new HUD added.

Almost finished the Reskit AIM-9P missiles. Only the clear seeker head needs to be added.

Canopy attached. Had to use a bit of Mr. Surfacer 500 to seal up gaps all around. Used Apoxie Sculpt to seal up the hole behind the canopy where a working “hinge” was to be placed.

I chose AK RC239 as the bottom color. Air Superiority Blue FS35450.

I did more pre-shading even though I fully intended to only do post-shading on this build.

The first upper color is applied. Tamiya’s XF-55 Deck Tan.

John: Thanks for the info. More photos are always useful.

Ben: This is a rather old tooling with very large panels and rivets. The main challenge was that the kit was tooled to have all the control surfaces functional but the fit of those surfaces left much to be desired and required many nights of putty/sanding sessions. Also the cockpit is non-existent. The rest of the main parts fit rather well though 🙂.

Thanks Neil! I know that the J-6 is a nearly identical kit and there are many of the same problems to solve.

I have been working on the cockpit and hope to have some new images up soon.

It's even hard for us to find this kit here…
No idea when it flew over Pacific over there, but with your hands the journey is worthy.

Work has started on the paint. I have painted both the wheel wells & landing gear as well as the underside. I also did a bit more pre-shading on the upper surfaces.

Nice job on a niche topic - turned out great and probably more realistic than on the over-saturated title pic - well balanced camo I think... It´s also cool to see how small game-changing details enhance the whole - here the cannon muzzles with very scale-matching appearance with the thin walls & all - things like this make the rest look more believable in an instant 👍
