Awesome as always Kerry.

Thank you Clifford, very much. 🙂 I really miss the sound of the F-111 now, as it had the most unusual 'taring/ripping' of the air sound that was unique to the pig, and no other jet will ever sound as intimidating as the 111'.

I agree, they were a neat airplane.

After their decommissioning here, the air frames were all taken to a secret location, then crushed flat with bulldozers and buried. 🙁 🙁 🙁
1 May 2016, 00:29
Glenn
They didn't crush them Kerry. Just buried them complete with the wings and tailfin removed. There up there at Swanbank Queensland somewhere! They didn't scrap them because of the dangerous cancer causing material in the airframes and because the F-111G (former SAC FB-111A's) were nuclear carrying aircraft they had to be made inable to ever operate again. 23 airframes were buried. R.I.P. PIG!

Glen, I was quoting the news from Channel 7 and that is all I had to go on, but now I know that, I am grateful, but it's just sad that they came to such a sad end. 🙁 Youtube Video

Glenn
I know is sad they didn't put them all in parks or museums. It's not like you could steal it and get it flying again without engines! Even in America there wasn't many saved....

Well, I have some fantastic close up's of one special one and I have the privilege of being given total access to "Boneyard Wrangler" for the sole purpose of getting as many images I could for all scale modellers, all thanks to Wing Commander Steinbeck, Commanding officer of 1 Sqn,. 🙂 One of the best days of my life, as the other spin off from that day was the offer to photograph the Blackhawks at Oakey. All in extreme closeup.

Mr Smith, 🙂 Thank you for your compliment sir. 🙂 I am going to be posting all my close up images I took of the "Boneyard Wrangler" before they all went to plane heaven. Originally, It was all on video, as well as on 35mm Kodak film and I have been sitting on them for years thinking of how to publish it all, but now, I am happy to post it all here for all to see and use. 👍

there's an F-111 at an army surplus store in Texas, it is on I-30 between Texarkana and Dallas. The first time Anne and I drove past it, we did the "exit search" deal, until we could get the right one to stop by there,,,,,,,,,,they also had a Little John missile on a trailer, and an AGM Standard missile on a rail.

Anne is such a spoilsport, though,,,,,,,,,,she wouldn't let me buy the F-111 or the Standard, lol

I will try to find it on Google Earth and link it here. It is cool as heck, sitting there.

here it is, just a little bit west of Texarkana

Thanks Marko and Choppa, I am posting albums of work I have done over the last two years, including some albums of just photographs I took of the F-111 "Boneyard Wrangler", and the Sikorsky Blackhawk (all in extreme close up) The F-111 here in SEA cammo was done for the QMHE comp in 2014.

James, Hi mate, 🙂 I am honoured by your kind and encouraging words, as I hold you in high regard for your mastery and excellent results my friend, as you made such a wonderful job on that F-4 especially. 👍
The Hobby Boss is an amazing kit, and if you do get it, your in for one hell of a delightful surprise. 👍
And when you open the box, which is HUGE, it is filled to the brim to overflowing and you'll wonder how they got it all in the box. !! :-/
The 'wash' I used was really an experiment that had fantastic results, having tried all the usual ones with either over accentuated results or where the wash permeated the paint and could not be reversed. 🙁
The graphite powder I use is available from any auto spares store, then to help it work, a couple of drops of washing up detergent in water will break the surface tension repellent characteristics of the paint surface that will then allow the 'powder' in suspended form find all the recesses and deformations and stay there.
Then after all the water is allowed to evaporate, the powder remnants are wiped away from the surface with just a damp cloth (lint remnants are easily brushed away when dry), leaving behind the desired effect, AND, the process can be repeated again and again if needed, just in case you need a deeper and more pronounced effect, with no damage to any paint work done previously. 🙂
Now you have me wondering if you will build one. 🙂 As I am sure the end result will be awesome. 🙂

Choppa Nutta
Photo 32!!! 👍 😄

So anyway seeing as you always do such good and tidy builds I felt it incumbent upon me to see if I could find any faults on this model just to pick a few knits hehe😉 😄

and after many hours of research I do believe I may have found one .........
there is a slight wonkyness to the white outline on the canopy but it is slight,

like I said, your models are really difficult to fault !! haha 😄 😄 😄

Kerry COX
Choppa (rivet counter) Nutta. 🙂 🙂 🙂 I am pleased you have had a close look at my work, as that is a big thing for me to know that there are honest and tactful critics here like your self and it is something I welcome, wholeheartedly. I am surprised you didn't mention the little red strip lights on the wing tips, as they are a little 'oversized' and the 'slime lights' right on the outer tips of the wings are a little off and I could have done better. And yet I really cant notice anything about the det cord on the clear canopies, if that is what your talking about, but on the inside of the open canopy as you see through it, well there is a small thicker bit there I see. :-/ And also the crack in the seam on the tip of the vertical tail where the pulse sensor is located, image 6, as it SHOULD be a mirror surface in black. !! I have seen so many faults on my builds and I really am surprised that no one has said anything, which is what I totally expect from the mates here, I do like it when anything that my judges here find, and it would be irresponsible if they didn't say something, otherwise, how would I learn to improve.? 🙂
Diplomatically of course.👍hahaha

Christian Bruer
Excellent work and finish 👍 👍 👍
3 May 2016, 07:47
Choppa Nutta
haha Kerry, a most amusing response, love it 🙂
now that you have pointed out all those other errors I feel like a truly incompetent rivet counter lol 😄

I have to agree though, I too like to have my errors pointed out for educational purposes, and especially for comedic purposes too😉 😄

Kerry COX
Choppa, 🙂What you don't see though, is the physical and mental wreck in the corner sobbing his broken heart out. !! YOU BASTARD. !! LOL 🙂 🙂 🙂

And now to Christian. 🙂 Thank you my friend, I always feel good when I see your kind words, (unlike some who have other things on their minds here 😉) lol 🙂

You know I am an immense fan of your F-111 builds Kerry, I think they are just outstanding, So much that I have built four of the bloody things, trying to come even close to your. No luck so far. So I am the "Bloody Bastard" sitting in the corner sobbing. LOL.
3 May 2016, 21:50
Kerry COX
Clifford, Your selling yourself short on your builds mate, and the "Last Gambler" Academy of yours is just stunning, right down to the 'pull lever' canopy opening actuators. !!Something I never even wanted to attempt, but yours is a stunner.
I am, most humbled by your compliment and I thank you for them. 👍
3 May 2016, 23:21
Kerry COX
James C, I do apologise for getting it wrong on the F-4 I thought you did, and I ask your forgiveness. 🙂 👍 The wash is something you will gradually get that 'feel' for, and you will find that there will be too much powder, or not enough, but you will get immediate results and get better each time after that 'beginner'. 🙂 👍
3 May 2016, 23:26
Kerry COX
I am pleased I did a fair job with it otherwise no one would have considered the Hobby Boss kit at all.

Augie
I love the hobby boss kit, Just not got to building yet.
27 June 2019, 21:22
Kerry COX
Augie, you will be blown away when you see the most finite detail that all their kits come with, especially the rivets and surface details.
Have you bought any yet or have your eye on one. ? let me know. 👍
27 June 2019, 22:05
Slavo Hazucha
Thanks for bringing this to my attention Kerry! The HB kit surely looks decent enough, details, lines & rivets a joy to work with... But it is the builder who has to show on no uncertain terms where the journey will go and you handled that business with flying colors! Will surely come back to you when I get to start building mine.
27 June 2019, 22:09
Augie
hey kezza, I have two and looking at another lol
27 June 2019, 22:16
Clifford Keesler
I will get one someday when I'm rich. LOL. Meanwhile I will keep grinding out the Acadmey monsters. Have 2 FB-111A's. I am going to do one in the "Dark Vark" scheme and the other in SEA camo.
28 June 2019, 00:03
Kerry COX
The secret to the SEA cammo is blue tack putty. So good for compound curves.
28 June 2019, 00:36

Album info

The Australian "Pig" (Aardvark) Was phased out of service in 2010, ordered in 1963, but the aircraft were not delivered until 1973. The grey versions came later in the upgrade phase, but the SEA cammo had it's own special appeal to the enthusiast's, like me. 🙂
