Focke-Achgelis Fa 269
VTOL Project,.....
So,....let's see what we have got here. Well sorted and protected resin parts. Vaccu formed clear parts and a sheet of decals.
I start with the quite massive fuselage section. Quality of the part is good - fine panel lines, smooth surfaces and just 2 pinholes dedected.
Drilling out exhaust pipes,....
...and some scratching of instruments to fill the quite empty cockpit. I used the box art as reference as I was not able to get hold of some "real" picture or drawing evidence.
First Paint job on this bird,....
...and finally - Cockpit mainly finished.
Adding some wires to the cockpit panel
Ready for assembly.
The vacu formed blister before cutting out the particular pieces.
Clueing in the front panel....
...and try fit of the cockpit section.
Unfortunallty the joint goes through the front wind screen and overhead pane. I decided to cut both away and to replace them by a "full" shield.
New pane #1...
and #2.
Joining the clear part onto the resin fuselage was quite challenging. Some filling and sanding was needed to get an smooth transition.
Then I opened the air intakes to make the appearance of the "mouth" more prominent.....
The construction plan is not very precise and not good legible - I guess this two bulges should be the frontsection of the cockpit.
I could not identify on my available material if the nose is/was transparent on the original craft. I dicided YES.
Bringing in some details to the wheel bay.
Some stringers, wires and hoses added. I guess I can start the painting.....
Quite some surgery was necessary to cut all the masks for the window panes.
A pair of bay doors was missing. I scratched them out of thin styrene and added some stringers on the inner side of the panels.
First Layer of black primer is on.
I like to use Ultimate Primer since I followed a recommendation. Good stuff 🙂
Marbling started with RLM76.
After some more mottling.
The result after applying RLM75 for the dotted camo look.
These dots and my airbrush - I story on it's own - I will not share here 😉
Highlighted some details at the wheel bay.
Colours almost done. Getting the bird ready for decals,....
...almost done. I do not have much trust in the landing gears. The long and thin legs are....well, let's see how long they will do their job. 🙂
DONE !

Hi Lukasz, Robert, Thomas. Nice to have you on board.
Some progress with the lawn mower project. Interior mainly done.
The canopy is a 2 half vaccu molded blister....not sure yet how to avoid the parting line right through the front and top window..??..That's something I have to work off during next week.

Jürgen, I have never heard about this plane. Very cool from you, that you build it and show us this rarity.

Thx Robert and S M for your comments.
Hi Stefan, amoungst others I have a weakness for x-projects/experimental crafts AND for short runner kits. This one was the perfect combination.

Those wheel bays definitely look better.
I'll have to try that Ultimate primer.

Thx Gorby & Guillaume. And yes, S M, I did this to reduce masking efforts. Hope it turns out ok then.

Nice progress. The dot camo looks very good, I have yet to try something similar.

Thx S M & Alec.
Now the bird is in it's final colour. It is ready to receive the decals as a next step.

What an oddity of an aircraft! I had no idea it even existed. Tilt-rotor aircraft are a major engineering challenge nowadays still, not to mention 80 years ago.
Congratulations on the hard work and wonderful result! What a nice topic!

Hi everyone and many thanks for leaving your nice comments. It's always motivating, especially on such pain creating kits (at least during the build phase). Finding appreciation afterwards compensate a lot.
