With cars and bikes I usually start with the bodywork.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/5/4/2/1186542-33079-40-720.jpg)
The pink primer is UMP. It’s an acrylic that settles very smoothly and self levels. Very forgiving.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/5/4/4/1186544-33079-10-720.jpg)
I let it settle for a day before I sand if it needs it.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/5/4/6/1186546-33079-24-720.jpg)
The spark plugs will be replaced with more accurate parts. I am not going overboard with details with this one.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/5/4/7/1186547-33079-79-720.jpg)
The engine looks very detailed and doesn’t need much fiddling around. To highlight the castings I have used Alclad II Hi Shine Aluminium and Alclad II Polished Aluminium over Alclad Black Base.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/5/4/8/1186548-33079-52-720.jpg)
Hose clamps of BMF added
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/5/4/9/1186549-33079-28-720.jpg)
The Air box is painted in SMS Jet Black for the shiny plastic while the rubber parts have SMS Black which give a flat finish.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/5/5/0/1186550-33079-59-720.jpg)
The supplied cables are oversized but I didn’t have any lighter in my stash. Must fix that! I have a jig for building bikes but it doesn’t allow for Hasegawa bikes.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/5/5/1/1186551-33079-74-720.jpg)
Seat done in SMS “black” over UMP grey primer.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/5/5/2/1186552-33079-54-720.jpg)
The tank, tail unit and side covers done in SMS “Signal Red”. It should give me a more ‘orange’ shade.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/5/5/3/1186553-33079-23-720.jpg)
SMS 2k clear coat.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/5/5/4/1186554-33079-75-720.jpg)
The tail unit and side covers settled perfectly with no trace of orange peel.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/5/5/5/1186555-33079-43-720.jpg)
The fuel tank however did have a very slight orange peel over the top of the tank.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/5/5/6/1186556-33079-62-720.jpg)
You can see the orange peel on this shot
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/5/5/7/1186557-33079-45-720.jpg)
I cannot leave it like this, Yoda would would be very disappointed!
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/5/5/8/1186558-33079-31-720.jpg)
The side covers were perfect as they were
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/5/5/9/1186559-33079-81-720.jpg)
The tank here has had a quick and very light wet sand with Micromesh 6000 grit. The uneven surface starts to reveal itself.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/5/6/0/1186560-33079-91-720.jpg)
Wet sand with 6000 grit leaves a flatter surface but dull from micro scratches.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/5/6/1/1186561-33079-69-720.jpg)
A few minutes with a wet 8000 grit and the tank starts to come back to life.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/5/6/2/1186562-33079-64-720.jpg)
12000 grit starts to bring up a shine and the scratching has all but gone.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/5/6/3/1186563-33079-37-720.jpg)
UMP polish brings back the shine. The polish kit also has a cutting compound but this wasn’t needed.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/5/6/4/1186564-33079-28-720.jpg)
Looks good but it does still need a wax.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/5/6/5/1186565-33079-22-720.jpg)
Wax down and buffed off.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/5/6/6/1186566-33079-15-720.jpg)
From the side.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/5/6/7/1186567-33079-93-720.jpg)
Ok, I’m happy with that so onto the next thing!
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/7/0/4/1191704-33079-65-720.jpg)
Test fit of the tank, seat and tail unit. Not happy with the side cover Alclad. It has rubbed off from the handling.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/7/0/5/1191705-33079-69-720.jpg)
I have had a mountain of problems with the front wheel and guard.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/7/0/6/1191706-33079-95-720.jpg)
Just to prove the CDI unit is in there! Battery detail.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/7/0/7/1191707-33079-11-720.jpg)
I repainted the side covers and the outside engine cooling fin.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/7/0/8/1191708-33079-80-720.jpg)
“But the front fell off”! Famous line from Australian comedy skit. Apologies to International audiences.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/7/0/9/1191709-33079-42-720.jpg)
Nobody ever said that modelling had to be ordered and organised!
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/7/1/0/1191710-33079-21-720.jpg)
Compare the pair. Earlier build, Kawasaki KH 250 with the latest subject. Of note at this point is I retained ALL of the kit supplied chrome. Normally I would remove it but I questioned myself as to why I do. I did not come up with a reason so I left it all in situ and I do like the result.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/7/1/1/1191711-33079-32-720.jpg)
I have one more Kawasaki Tri Stars kit to build from what is available, the H1-500. I would love to get my hands on a H2-750 but there is only the old Hella kit from the eighties which is impossible to find at a price I would be game to build and the Aoshima pre built kit, which takes the fun out of it!

Jv, I use UMP polishing system. A little expensive but I get much better results from using it than anything else I have tried. And I have tried everything from Tamiya through to car polishes.

Anyone confused with the "The front fell off" remark should watch this. Famous political satire skit from and Australian TV show. Very funny! Youtube Video

Hard to choose what I liked more; the bikes or the video 😄
Stunning build Peter, very well done!

I wouldn't call it a technique Villiers, more of a control on the saturation in the end colour. The colour I wanted was red with a hint of orange but I didn't want a yellow tint to it. The pink keeps the red but keeps it light.
Martin, the comedy duo were on a current affairs show every Friday evening and always too the p-ss out of a train wreck interview with a political figure for the week. Heaps of them on You Tube, anyone can relate to them because politicians are all the same.
Spanjaard, me or the model? 🤣

Excellent build, Peter. I believe the UMP primer is Stynylrez and it is fantastic stuff. I've also started using 2k clear and it is fantastic too.
