Aaaaawwwwwww shit! I got ahold of the old Aurora 1/108 kit of the 141A! With original decals in great shape! Gonna need new stars and bars though as the blue is TOTALLY wrong.
And the scale is weird but awesome! Its actually a perfect size for this plane. And I get to my girl in NMF now. Well, once I get around to her.

With the conclusion of the CH-47, I am moving on to this baby. The kit was produced in 1969. It has NOTHING on the inside. Literally nothing. So I just sprayed flat black on the inside and got to it. Fuselage together and wings on. The fit is NOT bad considering its almost as old as me.
The decals were my big worry. Its not like I can find aftermarket for this thing. I cut out one of the stars and bars and tested it. I am replacing those anywa, so...
Holy shit! It worked! It came off the backing and did not shatter. I scanned it just in case, but it looks like I wont have to worry.

So I worked the seams and sprayed flat black. I actually got rid of the majority of the seam on the first go around. Yes! I will spray gloss black later tonight.

OK. So I took some 1MM Tamiya tape and masked off the walkway markings. Just cover the black thats already there and wallah, no need to use up my black line decals.
Then I sprayed the areas that will be aircraft gray. Though I did forget the nose area. I dint mask because I figured I will simply just mask the gray areas and spray the aluminum once it is set. I figured that would be better than spraying the metal and masking over that. We will see how it works out. Also, I am having to guess about the underside. I never saw an A model in real life. Either in the original paint job or the later gray/white. And I cant find pics really showing those areas. Just enough to see that it did wrap around under the leading and trailing edges and was not restricted to inside the walkway lines.

Maciej, thank you! And yeah, its a good size. Wingspan about 17.5 inches or so.
So, last friday was my birthday. So I took the weekend off. Not to mention the basement flooded, so I was dealing with that. Makes it hard to spray when there is water everywhere. But before all that, I did get a little done.
The landing gear on the thing are atrocious. Again, 1969. They werent looking for detail and accuracy. The tires are awful as well. So, I decided to close her up. When I close access panels and wheel wells, I pack it with kids play clay. This gives it support and allows me to line the parts up as much as I can. They are gonna require some more work, but still better than what the gear would look like.

The masking on this actually turned out to be kind of tedious. But its mostly done. Just waiting for the paint on the tail to dry (had to do some sanding) then I will finish up and spray the aluminum. Between personal stuff and other personal stuff and some more personal stuff, I havent been able to spend a lot of time on it.

It's looking good, watching. I can imagine how big it would be in 1/144. let alone 1/72. LOL.

Anigrand does a 1/72 B model. One of these days I'm gonna get it.

One of my favorite rides… good memories! I remember building this kit ages ago. Can't wait to see what happens here!

So, I amnaged to absolutely jack the paint up on it and had to fix one side of the fuselage. It doesnt look bad, but not great. Overall, not my best NMF. And I am not going to try to do varying colors as there are NO panel lines. Nothing for guidance so I will leave it dull aluminum.
So some touch up, finish up the engines and put them on and decals and she will be done.

All I can say - it looks very nice in the photos! This is the first time I see this NMF/grey livery. Very interesting!

Thank you gentlemen. ?
Bernd, it was only on the A's. Once they got stretched they were painted the Gray and white or the euro camo.

I remember them being in aircraft gray and white before the B stretch. They went to the Europe camo after being stretched.

So she is all finished. For a 52 year old model, it wasnt bad at all. And the decals actually acted better than some new ones I have dealt with.

Beautiful finish! The NMF & Aircraft Gray is an attractive modern look on the old girl.

That Globemaster with jets, seen on far right in photo 16 seems hard to get. Being a Revell kit I am surprised they don't seem to sell more of them. Would like to buy one, but not at some premium price off eBay or whatnot.

Treehugger, I know right? I do not for the life of me understand why they stopped producing it. I was tempted to buy all 3 that were on the shelf back when they were first released. I kick myself constantly for not doing so. But who knew?
