Tiger II - Berlin May 1945 - The last Guardian

Hey guys. This one will be my next project: An Tiger II.
This tank will be some kind of half real and half fictional.
Real: This tank with the turret number 100 really exists and belonged to Obersturmführer Max Lippert. It was one of the two last Tiger II tanks from the schweren SS-Panzer-Abteilung 503 that were protecting Berline at the end of April 1945.
In the end it was the last one standing (rolling 😄) and was destroyed by its own crew on 3 May 1945 because of missing fuel.
Fictional: There are no evidence like notes or pictures how the tank looked in the last days an what camo was painted on it.
The camo sheme that you can see on the thumbnail of the project must be fictional. All Tiger II tanks were painted in the standard three tone camo at the end of the war.
Despite that the camo is wrong, i will use it for this tank.

Who ever is interested, here some information to this kit.
This one is an Zvezda offering but orginally the Dragon kit with the number 6208. The build so far was easy and straight out of the box. The fitting of the parts is very good. The only part that needed a little bit of puty was the place where the rear plate and the lower hull connect.
The most time consuming and annoying part until now were the tracks. You have 180 single links that you have to clean from the flesh and sand down the ejection pins. Took me about three days to do so.
As always the Zvezda kits are missing the PE parts. You have an piece of mesh that you have to cut out and use for the engine deck.
You can use the Eduard PE set that was released for the Dragon kit.
I am going to build this tank without the fenders and mud guards. Almost all tools and towing cables will be removed.

In on this one. I'm new to tank modelling so i can't really tell you about the welding seams. How did you do them tough? I think they look good. The track links sound awful, but in the pictures they look well detailed!

I have this kit, so I'm following with doubled interest 👍

Welcome on board David.
The seams were done from miliput. I rolled them into thin strips and attached them with help of a toothpick and tweezers. The welding pattern was done with the back of the hobby knife blade.

Welcome Rui.

Did a little bit today. Some welding seams were added to the rear and the engine deck. I removed the seams at the front plate and rebuild them. The new one are flat and not that bulky like the previouse.

Very nice what you have done! But there's a question about the painting sheme of the 100: where's the painting from? In front of me is the book Trojca/Trojca Der Königstiger and there are several photos that show the hull also camouflaged. The authors think that the camo had been darkyellow-redbrown-reseda. Very interesting is the additional camo done by blankets. Do you have some pictures of it? If not, I will send you some if you want. Meanwhile keep going. Top!!!

Ingo F
Thank you Bastian. A few pictures of the 100 would be nice.
As i said before i cound not find any pictures of this tank. First time i have seen the camo was about 1-2 years ago on a russian site while browsing for camo ideas for the Tiger II. I instantly like the camo and decided to use it for one of my project in the future. I searched for more pictures but found only pictures of some diecast models and Tigers build by other modellers. No pictures of the real one.
I know that the Tiger II with the number 101 that belonged to Karl Heinz Turk had a hard edge three tone camo.
As far as i know there is no way that a King II in 1945 had such two tone camo. For me it does not metter if this camo is real or not. I will use it. 😄

You're right, paint it like you want. At the end it has to look like you want it. I'll scan the pictures I have and send them to you. There are some crazy ideas for a Dio.

Here we go guys. A new update on this beast. The chipping and scratching process is almost done. I just need to use the graphite pencil on the most exposed areas, where the chipping went deep till the bare metal. After that i can start with streaks and pigments. 😄
28 December 2017, 22:30
Murad ÖZER
beautiful job Ingo, those multicolor streaks on the turret especially making lots of difference. 👍

Great job, came out very nicely! I like that heavily worn look. Without the fenders it looks sort of naked though.😉
14 January 2018, 11:26

Thank you Rene. 🙂 I think without the fender it looks more dangerous. 😄

Yep
Combatproven. But no dents in the armor 😛
I cut one panel out of my E75. Wasn't brave enough for total annihilation

Rene Scheiblich
What putty did you use for the weldbeads? 🙂
14 January 2018, 16:49
Ingo F
I used Miliput Standard (yellow-grey) for them. Next time i am going to try out the green stuff.
14 January 2018, 17:37
Scott Dutton
Beautiful job, the missing track guards make it look such a beast
14 January 2018, 20:06
Ingo F
Thank you Scott.
14 January 2018, 20:08
Rene Scheiblich
I use the white variety of milliput for stuff like that. But only if I want it to get thick, my weldseams usually come out like the ones on a KV-1 or other old russian tank 🙂
Yours look quite decent though, especially with the wash.
I'm curious how your next baby will turn out😉
