Frames of the gauges… interesting colors when finished.

Album image #5
Side panel done. Electronic microscope is very good with this kind of job.

Album image #6
Fitting front panel and cockpit. Excellent fit. Left part sill not detailed. Hard to find how to paint the Instruments. The patterns are not the same on the model and real pics I have.

Cockpit almost ready. I enjoyed making this.

I decided to do lot of paint chipping on the front seat. Should be wooden seat with gray painting according to real images.

Album image #13
Album image #14
Bullet proof armor plate down. I’ll add Windshield later. I need to align it properly with the fuselage. Note, the gunsight won’t fit through the hole from above. First install the plate, then sight.

Windshield even more scratched. I wrote to Revell and asked for a replacement. But old kit, so I don’t know if they have spares anymore.

Album image #20
Album image #21
Glass was scratched

Album image #22
I used old bullets for ballast. 11 of 7.62 mm caliber.

Album image #23
I think it went fine. Ill blue the arch above cockpit later, i might need to adjust the glass. I dont like the angle, although it was in proper angle regarding the instrument panel.

Album image #24
It is very long 😄

Getting the wings straight was easy. Good fit.

Album image #30
Wings attached ?

Album image #31
Album image #32
Fitting pilot into his Office. Need to adjust legs a bit, but surprisingly good fit. I have to make the parashoot bag or something under his bum, otherwise he sits too low. I was struggling trying to find crew for this UHu. Zokai-Mura has perfect crew for their kit, but I couldn’t find it for sale anywhere. I wanted the crew to have oxygen masks, because in all the pics I managed to find, Uhu crew has masks.

Album image #33
Scratch at the middle of the windshield. I asked Revell for a spare, but the kit is no longer produced and no spares are available.

Album image #34
Double light was interesting to do. Transparent yellow glass and silver reflectors.

Album image #35
I would have wished for more detailed engine…

Album image #36
Interesting setup of radiators. 10 / engine. These of course are hard to see when finished.

Album image #37
Progressing quite fast now

Album image #38
Some filling and sanding needed, but not much.

Album image #39
Album image #40
I like the movable rudders

Album image #41
Album image #42
Album image #43
Making and painting exhausts and flame extinguishers.

Album image #44
Album image #45
Almost done. Going to add few oil / fuel stains still and see how they will look. The actual manifold will be completely hidden. I will add these after the fuselage is painted. Not needing to mask them ?

Album image #46
Painting and modifying the figures for the cockpit. Pilot done. I needed to heat and adjust legs quite much to get the proper position. I gave the crew winter jackets.

Album image #47
I got it on my sight!!

Album image #48
Album image #49
Where is my radar oprerator?

Album image #50
I polished succesfully the windshield with Autoglym product.

Album image #51
Needed to modify radar operator quite much to get him fit on his seat. These guys must have had very short legs and thin behinds. Was it really so in the real aircraft, that the radio equipment filled the whole front wall of the radar operator. He must adjust the lower buttons with his toes!

Antennas in place. I need to be very careful with them.

Album image #60
Almost properly aligned. I need to wait for the gule to harden before trying to align them better.

Album image #61
An issue with the Vallejo’s chipping medium. I sprayed first layer with aluminium, then chipping medium, then RLM70. Chipping medium makes the color layer to pattern. Another thin layer of green fixes this. Let’s see how it works, when I start weathering these blades.

Album image #62
Almost lost this part. Found it on the carpet after 15 mins of searching. This goes on the nose and should be painted yellow. I’m not sure if this is windshield washer or heater. ?

Album image #63
Primer sprayed

Album image #64
Album image #65
Album image #66
Lots of holes for shells to drop

Album image #67
Spirals done with paintmasks, not decals, quite happy how they look.

Album image #68
Propellers done

Album image #69
Album image #70
Making spots. Airbrush, 0,2 mm nozzle, free hand

Album image #71
Finally finished…

Album image #72
…now correcting bad spots… Vallejo paints dry so fast, that I had really much issues with dry tip

Album image #73
Painting the national insignias. First time for me. I’m wondering should I apply protective lacquer first. But I didn’t do it. Let’s see how it goes.

Thank you for the thumbs up and warning. This has always been one of my very favorite planes. I like the design and shape of the Owl. I have never built one though. So I'm going to try enjoy all the steps and go slowly.

AHA, the big one, also one of my favorite aircraft, I watch with great interest. Maybe I'll build that one too someday. Good luck! 👍

Sharp looking cockpit. 👍 Nice recycling job on the nose weights. Be sure there's no one practicing when you're out collecting your weights!

Thanks John. I collected lots of those when I was 12 or so 😅. We lived at the city with airforce base. My mother didn't know what we were doing 🙈. Also have some nice 30 mm training bullets from Aden cannon.

Maybe you can polish the part and then seal it, I heard it goes quite well with Future

Should polish out alright Jan-Erik

I havent polished clear parts before. So I need to practise first with some non essestial parts. I saw a video where they used sanding sticks and then 2 different polishing liquids applied with cotton swaps. I have kit for restoring and polisihing plastic car head lights. I was thinking of using that because I don't have proper materials 🙈. But do you mean that it would go away with just a gloss coating with floor polish? Or do I need to scrub with it?
3 December 2022, 19:12
John
If you have fine grit sandpaper (2000 and above) you can generally get it to the point where Future (also sold as Klear) will fill in the superfine scratches and make it optically clear. The headlight polishing compound you have should easily get it to that point. All you have to do with the floor polish is dip the part in it, fully submerged. Use tweezers on a painted area/framing and just dip it. Slowly pull the part out and hold it so that excess polish pools in one corner, then lightly touch that edge to a paper towel and it will wick away the excess. If you don't do this, the polish can build up and you'll see it. I'd practice on a spare canopy from something else if you have one. Let it dry overnight and you should be good.

Yep, there are other products that will 'restore' your glass if you don't have access to Future/Klear/Floor Polish. 'Looks like Glass' from Deluxe is available at Hobby stores.

Hello Jan-Erik, I've always had problems with the clear parts, Plege and Future are hard to get, after a long search I found what I was looking for at Krick and I'm very happy with it, my two He 219 in 1:32 and those too red Diva CF 188 are treated with it: krickshop.de/LOOKS-L..odNr=44132&p=443 I use the nail files for grinding trendypreis.de/droge..hoCFFwE.AvD_BhoCFFwE

Supposedly, Squadron Thermaform (Thermoform?) the heat and smash method (for those that remember this product) of making canopies is made of the exact same stuff as 2 liter Coke (and presumably Pespi) bottles. If you're really frustrated with the kit canopy, you can heat & smash over the original. Here's the BUT part, put a heatsink under your original kit canopy or you'll melt it. And by a heatsink, a chunk of play doh or equivalent smushed into the underside of the canopy will work.

Thank you. There seems to be many ways how to mend this. I will first try to polish method. It worked excellent with car.

Thanks for all the supporting comments, it has been really laborsome work and i have cursed my airbrush and paints for many many many many times during this. Now finished with camo and time for some last details and gloss coat for decals and weathering.
