These are the first pictures of a building project with five kits involved in three scales; all on the theme of the F-14 Tomcat. First of all I show here pictures of an F-14 which will be in the colours of an Iranian F-14. The pilots got a moustache on their face- an attempt to get them away from the "Tom Cruise" appearance) to a more "Persian" look- whatever that would be more accurate 🙂
Speaking of pilots: the Iranian plane is to be shown in flight.

Now that I looked at them more carefully, your Iranians are quite Robin Olds-esque 😉

Two moustaches - and what wonderful associations! I am exhilarated- something that cannot be said about the qualities of the Italeri kit. 🙂

Hello Roland! Nice start, the moustaches are definitely improtant for persian tomcats. I have a question: are you planning to use the other decals? Particularly the VF-14? I would be very happy to use them!

Than you all, very amusing!
Martin, I have to check the versions: I am planning to use a decal set for a second 72-scale Tomcat, this time from Hasegawa and built in parallel. I will then write to you to tell you which markings I can spare - and I will be happy to send you any surplus.

Klasse Project, leider war meine Umsetzung 2013 nicht so erfolgreich 🙁

An informative article that I read with interest- and an intriguing double project with with quite well-made models! Thank you for showing it!

One thing is for sure: the Italeri kit is not made to show the landing gear retracted and the corresponding flaps closed - at least not so easily! A little sanding will be the solution here.

I must confess, I've only just noticed your magnificent moustache on the profile picture.... Celebrate "Movember"? No, that doesn't ring a bell... but it sounds interesting! ?

Soem news here too: the moustache-brothers have disappeared for the time being under the rather luxuriantly large canopy. Installing that was not at all easy; the tube of putty must never be put far away during this project.
But I am happy that the surface coloring can be started soon!

Clifford, Łukasz, thank you for your comments!
You haven't seen the cover of the main landing gear bays yet.... 🙂

On this Tomcat the priming and pre-shading is also finished. The radome was fitted with a metal nose as an "A-probe" before the paint was applied.

I have 3 of the 1:48 Italeri F-14's, an "A" an A+ and a "B". hope they fit ok. I built an A years ago and it went together ok.

Clifford, I am glad to hear that everything went well with the Italeri kits. The 72 here just needs a little more care, but it can be done. The comparison with the somewhat more dignified Hasegawa kit is quite vivid, however, in terms of detail, accuracy of fit and precision of the casting.
Here you can see the almost finished surfaces of the Iranian Tomcat; now it's time for detailing - and the external loads!

Well, that would be delightful - but no, this F-14 will be equipped with Sidewinder and Sparrow. This might have been a common armament of the wingman of the F-14 always flying in a pair during a CAP. The leader, though, had one or two of the long-range AIM-54 Phoenixes underneath.

Nice paint job. It's going to be a nice looking bird. I like the Hasegawa F-14's, would also like to give the Hobby Boss ones a try. The Tamiya and AMK offerings are on my bucket list, but right now out of my price range. Lol.

Oh yes, the F-14 Tomcat has torn many a hole in a budget in its history - in the original as well as in the model! 🙂

Those holes are many:
- the US Governmentof course
- Grumman itself, in order to get the contract it promised a fixed price for the bird
- Iraq has a lot of them, either from Iran or the US (twice)
- Iran itself has a big financial hole for trying to keep it flyable
- Afghanistan
- Libya (four downed aircraft come in mind)
- I am planning to create a big hole in my pocket (or credit card, or bank account, choose whatever fits)
Looking great Roland!

Well, nice that our wallets are so big that we can even dig holes in them 🙂
Did not know, that Iraq got any F-14? Interesting!

About Iraq, I meant the holes in their MiGs, Sukhois and Mirages from the Iranian Tomcats and the holes in the ground from the American Tomcats. Those were quite expensive for Iraq.

Slowly, the Tomcat is taking shape - and this project looks to be coming to an end. However, there is still some work to be done: on the F-14 itself there is still no washing, signs of use or dirt - not untypical for Iranian machines. The sparrows and sidewinders are also not yet finished, even though a lot of work has already gone into them. By the way, they are not from the kit, but are from "Res-Kit" and Eduard "Best Brassin" sets.

Yesterday I was able to finish the Iranian Tomcat; in places it was a hard ride until the end; but in the end a happy ending.
For the presentation and for the footage I chose a suitable background from Coastal Kits; somehow remarkable how such a simple thing brings movement into play!
I just couldn't resist and in most of the photos I simply touched away the metal rod holding the model 🙂
I hope you like the result, I enjoyed the two moustache wearers in the cockpit the most!

Thank you mates! Oh yes, Movember rocks 🙂
Konrad, this base is from "Coastal Kits"; they have a lot of ideas what you can do with a base like that 😉

Very nice. The CK base sets the scene nicely, but your modelling is the star of the scene. 👍

Hi mates! I am joyfully motivated and honoured by your comments, thank you all for that!
Es-haq, the "Print Scale" decal sheet for the Iranian F-14 Tomcats was a joy to work with; I thank you for the great work behind it and can only recommend this opulent decal sheet!
