LOL! It does look a little weird 😄 hahaha!

Beautiful kit and great work on your part nonetheless! 👍

... some painting progress on the cat ...

Looking good so far Albi. I built this experimenting with the AK panzer grey modulation set. Interested to know your angle for the painting 🙂
18 June 2014, 18:57
John Van Kooten
Yes! Me too! It looks really good 👍
19 June 2014, 06:07
Lionel Marco
Nice job so far... I'm looking forward for the next steps of your painting.

Holger Kranich
Hey Martyn,
How do you like the modulation set?
I got my self the same only for Dunkelgelb and will try it on my next tank!
19 June 2014, 07:17
Albi Hitz
Thank you mates for the motivation.
In-between I put some XF-23 into the base color and highlighted some edges ....

Holger Kranich
Yummie, yummie!
19 June 2014, 14:34
Albi Hitz
Basic Pinwash its done!
And the 101 roadwheels!!! Why do the need so much roadwheels ...???...
No wonder the Germans got so much problems in the fields with their big tanks)

Next step will be the hardest: Put mud on it!!!! 🙂
22 June 2014, 15:05
John Van Kooten
Very cool, Albi! Love the weathering, highlights and shading! 👍

And yeah, those roadwheels on German vehicles are really something! 😉 it's the only thing I sometimes don't look forward to 😉 lol

Looking forward to the dirt! 😛

Looks already great 👍 Can`t wait for the mud 🙂

Martyn Fox
Good job. I'm liking the way your Panzer grey finish is looking. Mine turned out looking a bit to dark for my liking.Holger, I thought the modulation set worked well but I should have started with a lighter base colour, as you can always work the finish darker but it's more difficult I find to lighten the colour.

Alan Rush
Enjoyed the photos and the results Albi. I have only built a few kits and have not tried a Tiger. I have seen and read about the modulation sets and nice to see the way you have done it with your own mixes. Very inspiring for my future efforts. Thanks for posting. 👍

Albi Hitz
Thank you mates for the kind comments.

Today I start putting mud on the Tiger....

@Martyn: I know that. My first german grey tank was way to dark ... but I was afraid to use the modulation set, because it looks a bit strange while you working working with it.... 🙂

@Alan: Thank you! I think the modulation sets are an easy way to "play" with the different shades. Its ok and I will try once with a dark yellow tank ...

Gábor Bélik
Great work! The thinner is nice way to keep the pigments earth like texture I used it a lot too. 🙂 Have you tried pigment fixer? That is almost the same effect but the pigment Will be less sensitive to touch.
23 June 2014, 18:00
Stefan Fraundorfer
Only great!
23 June 2014, 18:03
Mike Kryza
I think in the modulation style it's enough if you take three, max. four tones. I don't think it's necessary to take more... But this lies in your hands...😉🙂
23 June 2014, 18:32
Gábor Bélik
I have to agree Mike. I use 3 tones.
23 June 2014, 18:36
Albi Hitz
Thank you Gábor, Stefan and Mike for the support and the kind words.

@Gábor: yes, I know the pigment fixer. It works very well and yes it is a little "stronger" (but more expensive 😉 ), but I like to experiment with the different techniques and different stuff ... this time it was good old X20A

@Mike: I agree with you. It doesn't need more than three tones, but to find the right ones is the problem. If there to close you would't see any difference (especially after a pigment treatment 😉 ), if they are very different it looks fake.
I think its the airbrush technique as well. I don't like masking on armour models. The "real modulation" style is to much "art" for me. I like it more "naturally".

Nice job bro. I often put unfinished kits away, then return ,3/4 months later. Fresh approach , enthusiastic .
24 June 2014, 01:36
Mike Kryza
Albi - you're right - and it's always a little bit difficult to bring "life" in a grey vehicle. But I think you're on the right way! 🙂 - For me the "cat" looks actually very fine!
24 June 2014, 16:57
Gary
Great job on the finish Albi!!. Most people don't realize the layering to get a reaistic look. In armor and aircraft. Gary
24 June 2014, 17:50
Lionel Marco

What a fantastic job you did... For me, it's really a lesson on the way to do modulation.

Thank you guys for the nice Words and the the interest.

I put dust on (some would say to much) but I saw a video of Panzer IV in the Russian steppe and there was a lot of dust .... so, I think, thats how, it could looks like in summer '42 somewhere in Russia.

The Tiger is almost finished. Some small stuff and the tow cable ...

I hope you like it.
26 June 2014, 22:31
Choppa Nutta
looks real !!
26 June 2014, 22:33
Alan Rush
Nice Albi. 👍 I don't think it is too much dust. Just right for an army moving through a dusty Russian summer. Should go for autumn 1942 and go nuts with the mud! 🙂
26 June 2014, 23:37
Albi Hitz
.... Oh yeah Alan .... Go nuts with mud 🙂!
Or the same one in summer '44 abandoned and coverd with rust .... Opportunities ....

Great dusty Tiger 👍
27 June 2014, 10:50
Albi Hitz
Thank you Fabian and H K. In the beginning the modulation technique was the object but then the dust came ... 😉
The thing is (like in real life) layering and patience ....
27 June 2014, 22:03
Mike Kryza
Actually an absolute convincing finish! 👍

This pretty much what I would call perfect in every way! Very good job, Albi! The weathering is perfectly balanced with the rest of the vehicle. Absolutely GREAT work 👍 👍

Fox One
Very good. Only a few scratches, but a lot of dirt and dust - like on a real tank. Thats it. 👍👍

Thank you very much for the words of praise and the support and comments during the build. I appreciate that!

I take some final shots of the Tiger and I hope you like it as much as I do!

H K
What can I say. Outstanding paintjob and weathering 👍 Ist this the tow cable from the kit? If so, how did you bend it?
28 June 2014, 19:23
Albi Hitz
Thanks everybody!!! 🙂

@H K: Yes it is. And in the beginning it got this big radius. You can't just pull it .... I cut it in half and start straiten it step by step with my thumbs and forefinger. I start to bend it back inch by inch until its straightened.
The same way, if you place it on the tank. Bend it, controlled, in small steps ... Dry-fit and again adjust in small steps.
28 June 2014, 22:55
H K
Thanks for the explanation Albi.

Awesome, Fantastic! Looks like you have been inspired by Michael Rinaldi´s work!👍😄
8 July 2014, 12:03
Albi Hitz
You are right, Michael Rinaldi is always a good source of inspiration ... But in this case it was José Luis Lopez Ruiz with his 1:48 Tiger in military illustrated modeler. 😄

Nice color modulation and weathering @albi hit. One question from me, I just curious related to the back parts in pic number 32. Is it the upper hull (engine fan cover) should be in line with the back plate? Because I see some builds of Dragon 6600 is in line, not ''pop up'' like yours.
2 June 2017, 06:32
Darren Hazes
Awesome tank, this is the same build style i like to do. a lot of dirt to make it look really used.

@ streetrod60 and Darren Hazes:
Thank you mates for the kind comments.Thank you, I appreciate it.
@ streetrod60:
You are probable right.
To be honest, this was a "quick weekend build", then I lost my "mojo", leave it in the drawer for a while, almost binned it .... until I try the german grey finish ... 😉

Album info

I start with this one over a year ago, and somehow, I don't know why, I stopped the project and I put it in a drawer ...
Two weeks ago I open the drawer and thought: Ok why not, lets try it one more time ...

Sometimes it takes longer as usual, but its worth the effort ...
