Looks like an amazing museum Martin. The 'Something Whatshisname' on photo 23 generally goes buy the more formal name of 'De Havilland Dove' - there is one at my local air museum.

What a great exhibition! So many lovely planes!8) But wouldnt it be better to transfer the He-111 into a hall?

Terrific museum Martin - quite a find! (You have even forced me back into my 'plane-spotters' days of many years ago! Photo 4 is a Mil Mi-4, photo 32 is an Ilyushin Il-14 (or even an IL-12 at a scrape) and the much-liked He 111 isn't! (It's a post-war Casa 2.111 - still pretty rare though!)). Thanks for sharing, either way! 👍 🙂

Derek, As I'm on holiday, I'm in for a debate 😉
The museums website claims to have a He111, no mention of a Casa. Why do you think/know it's a Casa?

Martin - It's all in the engines! Under those fairly unique engine nacelles lie Rolls Royce Merlin 500 engines I am certain (something the Heinkels would quite like to have had!). Sorry, but being old enough to remember the making of the feature film 'The Battle of Britain' back in the late 1960's (as a lad), I was equally disappointed to find all the 'Heinkels' that they used were really Merlin engined CASAs - the shock has always stayed with me (much like the 'Messerschmitts, that were actually Hispano Aviacion Buchons!!!). (Also might just guess that the museums airframe number might be '145' - makes it a 2.111D I think?)

Martin - Also see axis.classicwings.co..fe/heinkel/he111.htm - only 4 real He 111s in the world! Plus your CASA!! 🙂 👍

Okay, sounds convincing. After your initial post I googled a bit. It seems you're right 👍
Mmm. And now I guess you want me to tell the museum?😎

Martin - If having a 'Heinkel He 111' in their collection ensures lots of visitors (and therefore support to keep open), then why should we spoil the party? Face it, it's only old crocs like me (and may be one or two others) that notice the difference, and "that don't really amount to a hill of beans"! Enjoy them all while they are around! 😄

Derek, i like to know what i am seeing, the casa is nice, almost as good as the He111, so i see no problem knowing which one is which. thanks for your feedback!

Okay lads,
I took my 11 year old son with me to Hermeskeil. I ordered him to photograph every plane from every angle available. Off course I set him up to fail 🙂
But he set to work and did a marvelous job. I put the pictures in seperate albums, which I merged into a project: The Hermeskeil Files | Project by Mahoo76 (1:1)

I'm quite sure we missed a couple of planes, sorry for that.

@DereK. The museum has a dual marking for the Heinkel/Casa. See if you can find it 😉

If you'd like a higher resolution picture, just PM me your email adress and which picture you'd like.

Good night,
Martin

Album info

In the summer of 2014 we were on our summer holiday near Trier. There was an advertising for a Flugausstellung. My son was 9 at the time, so he was very interested.
In short, lots of beautiful planes. Some modernish, some old. I took some pictures, but nog enough.
At the end of the exhibit was a gift shop with models.... There I caught the virus once more after >20 years.
