While the idea of the just married cans for the Mini is percolating in the back of my mind, I started this one. The Mini is for my youngest brothers wife. This will be for my other brothers girlfriend. Can't have the illusion of preference?
The body needed quite some sanding with 600 grit. As I will paint it with Alclad candy, I will need a smooth surface. The paint lifted from the polished Mini. Could a primer layer of Mr Surfacer 1500 add some bite to the silver base AND get rid of the sanding traces?
Penny for your thoughts!

Given your experience with the Mini, I would say give it a go. Try it on the hood separately. That way if it doesnt work out, it will be easier to strip off.

I agree... because it's probably not the best idea to have to include a "Just Married" sign on the car for the girlfriend... 🙂

Thanks Don. Instead of the hood, I'll abuse some plastic spoons. Much safer!
You're right Greg, the girlfriend isn't a fan of the institution called marriage. Don is on a being-right-spree this week. Just check Michaels ZM phantom thread 😉

Oh Gawd, twice in a week? The man is insufferable at the best of times. There will be no living with him now!

My left cheek. All of you, kiss it! LMAO😉
Martin the only reason I didnt suggest spoons is that the plastic is different and may not have the same final result. Though I imagine it would be close.

After a short pause, this box got opened again. I took it with me on vacation, so I can do some prep work. I finished the sanding job I started a while ago. There was some thoroughly dried sprue-glue in places to sand. And I even glued on some body parts.
Every part that is supposed to be painted in the body colour is cut and sanded.

The book gets read every summer vacation.
I finished all the prep work today. All parts cut, sanded and sorted in bags by final colour

Dechromed parts. Bozzer's usual method didn't work, so every piece got a Tamiya paint stripper bath with cotton bud hand work to remove the residue

Curious to know why it didn't work mate? I might have to purchase the kit, and have a play myself? I'd like to see if I could remedy the tricky chrome removal.

Plain bleach didn't do anything. After rinsing and a breakfluid bath, there was a yellowish goo whilst in the bleach. I guess the brakefluid didn't strip all of the clear. Back and forth between the two baths didn't work as well.
I do have some spare wheels uncleaned. I'll take a picture when i get home from work tonight

That's very odd, mate. Especially for a Revell kit? I wonder if they messed around with their chrome method, at some point? Obviously something changed, for that to happen?

I Dechromed simultaneously with the Merc parts. They only needed bleach

A bit of orange peel that needs to be sanded out. Nothing major. And yes, the colour is gorgeous.
Painted some other parts in black, silver and aluminium.
