TreehuggerI guess a subtle way to weather this could be to apply 'smoke' coloring with a brush (powder like). I haven't tried this Tamiya product myself, but I imagine that it will look nice on models as long at one is careful not to apply too much. Best test things in advance on some scrap model.

Finished! Revell's 1/72 Focke-Wulf Flitzer.
The Focke-Wulf Flitzer was a late war German jet project, it would have been powered by a Heinkel HeS 011 jet engine, with a Walther HWK 105-509 rocket engine (as used on the Me 163 Komet) to increase rate of climb. It also was intended to arm the aircraft with a pair of 20mm MG 151 cannons under the nose, and a pair of 30mm Mk. 103 cannons, one in each wing. Top speed was estimated at around 950 km/h. A full scale mockup was completed, and several smaller models were used for wind tunnel testing, however the war ended before the functioning prototype was built, leaving it as a "what-if" aircraft, one of the last desperate projects of the Luftwaffe.
The kit itself was rather small and simple, so I was able to build it rather quickly. Fit was reasonably good, although some filler was needed in some places, most notably the nose, where there was a gap between the fuselage halves. Other than that though it was a fairly pleasant build.
