Markus Kutsch I do not think all of the "cool kids" paint in oil. I tried both methods (oil / acrylic) and both have its advantages. Oil is easy to blend(blending). But the drying time is relatively long. And the colors Look a bit different after drying. Acrylic is drying super fast, does not smell and is available in many colors. I have used the Andrea Fleshpaint set for my last figures (Around the Corner, Hue 68 . I am really enthusiastic about the opacity and how great the highlight and shadows match each other.
The disadvantage is that they do not blend so well. It should be applied layer by layer in thin layers. My problem is aware of this .... I have to invest more time for the individual layers and dilute more.In my taste I rather work with acrylic but especially with the weathering, oil colors are indispensable for me.

Markus Kutsch But you did a great Job on your Figures
07. March 2017 at 18:50:06
gorbygould The ICM Soviet NCO looks very good. I assume that these are 1/35 figures?
08. March 2017 at 16:40:23
EnsignExpendabl Yes, these are all 1/35th scale. That particular one is from the "Soviet Staff Personnel (1943-1945)" kit.

So far Zvezda is beating EE.
I've several EE in my stash. I couldn't imagine that the plastic is so brittle :(
I usually associate brittle plastic with good detail... like ICM kits.

gorbygould Nice little dio. Out of interest, do you know why it has rip saw on the side? Just seems an odd thing for an armoured car to have - is the Black & Decker Workmate inside?
17. April 2017 at 20:01:26
EnsignExpendabl Saws are pretty standard instruments for Soviet armoured vehicles, the T-34 has a big two-man one on the side. I suspect it's used in case you need to make The Log https://tankarchives.blogspot.ca/2016/03/the-log.html
17. April 2017 at 20:14:00

Alec K Wow, very excellent and fine work
28. September 2017 at 04:25:14
EnsignExpendabl Yes, @Rui, the tracks didn't quite sag as well as I expected them to... But alas, without workable tracks, there is no way to change that after they are in place.

@Alec thanks!

EnsignExpendabl I ended up with three PzI command tanks. I bought the Italeri first, for the rusty tank diorama where I wanted a cheap, small kit. Then I saw the Dragon one at a price I couldn't pass up. The MB kit was the first time I ever saw a PzI Ausf. A command tank, plus there was an intriguing sticker on the box: "Bonus Dragon tracks and PE". I couldn't pass that one up either, so here we are.

Upon opening the boxes, I was pleasantly surprised. Dragon threw in the standard sprue full of spare wheels, the Italeri box had a set of link to link tracks inside (manufacturer not labelled), but the Master Box was the most surprising of all. Inside was a whole bag of goodies marked Dragon USA, including four sprues of track links (these might be Dragon, but they're not Magic Tracks) and suspension bits, and a huge photo etch fret, much bigger than the one that came with the original kit (that one is still included in the box and only includes the muffler meshes). Looks like I'll be able to beef up both of the "weaker" kits with superior Dragon components! Stay tuned!

reisender.ab Hi Ensign, looks as if you have made already some progress. Just some comments from my side. The Dragon shows the first or second production typ. I only know three-colour-schema Reichswehr vehicles with this antenna arrangement. The Italerie is in its configuration (extra armour on the front, storage box on the rear and the air inlets a tropical version. Maybe the Dragon has some spare parts to make it a European, if you want. The masterbox is a nice one too, but I will build mine with a chassis from Tristar as I prefer their level of detail. Enjoy your build and let us see how it looks in the end. You can find some good pictures in the Tankograd Wehrmacht Special No 4009.

EnsignExpendabl reisender.ab Oh, I already did a gray painting scheme that I am very happy with :( I should have known better than to trust the manual with colour schemes.
08. September 2017 at 15:42:55
reisender.ab Hi Ensign, maybe someone knows how the few vehicles, which received the antenna frame, where used later. If they have been upgraded to actual standard in the later years, they may have removed the frame antenna.
09. September 2017 at 11:20:25
EnsignExpendabl I'm really bad at incremental updates, it turns out. Anway, here is an in progress shot. I haven't added a flat coat on top, but it looks pretty good without it. Thoughts?
