Humvee GMV Enduring Freedom

Album image #1
Using a Pro Arts conversion kit for this one.

Album image #2
A couple of hours work and most of the frame is done. As usual with Tamiya the parts fit very well.

Album image #3
First resin parts glued. The winch has very good details, but it took a good part of 30 minutes to clean the part. It was both fiddly and difficult to clean it but i managed by being slow and carefull.

Album image #4
Very good winch details at the rear as well.

Album image #5
The original Pro Art kit comes with nice Humvee resin wheels, but I had a set of Super Swamper tyres in the stash and there is no reason not to use them 🙂

Album image #6
An early mockup to check that all things are aligned.

Album image #7
Making a simple base. To make a small base I have good results using air drying DAS clay. I mask of the area where I don´t want any clay and cover the area with white glue before I spread a thin layer of clay. The glue helps the clay to better bond to the base.

Album image #8
Then I set the tyre tracks. Be sure to wash any clay off the tyres when done.

Album image #9
I use a piece of sand paper to «print» some texture in the clay.

Album image #10
The I add some rocks and press them into the clay.

Album image #11
Last thing is to remove the masking tape and let it dry for 24 hours. When dry the detailing continues. Next step will be to add some AK acrylic texture.

Album image #12
Mock-up. It starts to look like a GMV. The Pro Art parts are well detailed but extremly fiddly to clean up. I had to glue the ammo can holder on the passenger side before the final sanding (which is not done yet).

Album image #13
Mk 19 as the Main weapon.

Album image #14
The Pro Art Models kit is ok for its age, but I´m starting to get tired of facemask, vacuume cleaner and sanding.

Album image #15
The upcoming operators need som weapons. The M4 rifles and DMR are from Blast, the M240 is from Legend.

Album image #16
Allmost ready for some paint

Album image #17
I will go for the rear doors since the crew is dressed for winter.

Album image #18
I built some extra armor and added pedals and floor mats to the GMV

Album image #19
The armor is scratchbuilt from styrene and masking tape using some reference pictures. The bolts is a bit over scaled, but it is what I had in my spares box.

Album image #20
The same armor, but with some primer.

Album image #21
And it can hardly be seen with the dash and windscreen attached

Album image #22
I did not like the bolts so I changed them

Album image #24
Working on the radio setup. (Mock-up picture)

Album image #25
Built a satellite antenna. Figure is for scale only.

Album image #26
Changed the radio for a better set up from MR Models.

Moons out - Goons out!

Album image #28
Heater system installed

Album image #29
Lots of small details tonight. Fuel Line, sun visors, speakers, windshield viper motor, etc…

Album image #30
«The Goons» at a very early stage of painting.

Album image #31
The evolution of Goons. Some more paint added.

Album image #32
Crew is more or less finished

Album image #33
Finally got time to do some work on the GMV. Still a long way to go.

Album image #34
Roof and gun mount is not glued. Need to work on the interior.

Album image #35
Radios wired up and installed

Album image #36
I´m quiet happy with how the PLGR GPS turned out.

Album image #37
A bit of stowage. The tarp is made from Kleenex tissue.

Album image #38
Crew has gotten their personal weapons and is glued to the seats

Album image #39
Birdseye wiev

Album image #40

It is not easy to find good reference pictures of a GMV, but I found this sweet walkaround

The Norwegian Government just annonced the procurment of 54 Leopard 2A7. My GMV project might suffer a bit, since it is very tempting to start a Leo 2…

What do you mean, Bobby? I more or less finished the crew yesterday 😉 . Now it is back to the vehicle!

I was referring to your comment about building a leopard. Finish this one first as it has turned out really well so far. I am expecting a diorama.

It is looking really good, would be a pity not to finish it 😉

Be sure Bobby, this one will be finished. Started to paint parts of the vehicle this evening and finished the crew. Two of them now got BDU camo vests as I found it a bit boring with only green. The Leopard will not go anywhere…
