Ju-88 A-1
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/1/4/2/1314142-36121-59-pristine.jpg)
This one suggests only RLM70 on the uppers.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/1/4/1/1314141-36121-55-pristine.jpg)
Not so clear reference. White spinners?
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/1/4/4/1314144-36121-25-pristine.jpg)
Someone’s had a good day at the office!
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/1/4/6/1314146-36121-81-pristine.jpg)
Helpful reference- note the patina on the uppers
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/1/6/2/1317162-36121-12-720.jpg)
Blown away with the level of detail on this kit. The finesse of plastic almost as good as resin.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/1/6/3/1317163-36121-87-720.jpg)
Pity to see most of this disappear once the fuselage comes together. Made the belts from wine closure- the only thing missing from this incredibly detailed cockpit

![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/1/9/2/1319192-36121-18-720.jpg)
I’ve used their decals for the instrument panel. I had to use PVA glue to settle them to the raised plastic- a sharp blade will trim the transparency’s carrier film once the glue has dried
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/1/9/3/1319193-36121-14-720.jpg)
Revell’s engineering approach to plastic construction on this model is very well thought through- no seams on this fuselage top. I have largely trusted the tolerances on this, and not done copious amounts of dry fitting- it’s that good!
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/1/9/4/1319194-36121-49-720.jpg)
The rudder pretty much pushed on, no need to glue, (but I have).
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/1/9/5/1319195-36121-37-720.jpg)
Another shameless shot of the cockpit- umber washes around the belts
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/1/9/6/1319196-36121-73-720.jpg)
The instructions suggest adding the radial onto one side of the nacelle first, then attach the other side of the nacelle. You don’t need to, as shown. The radial will drop in. Handy, as I want to get that white collar painted before the main camouflage
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/1/9/7/1319197-36121-96-720.jpg)
Again, two approaches to the flaps, put the flaps on then the hinges, or hinges on then mate the flaps. Neither is better than the other in terms of approach- there is limited scope for displaying them down.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/4/3/4/1368434-36121-10-720.jpg)
Some Festive Seasonal work on the Ju-88. I’ve been plagued with the same issues as the Sunderland (concomitant) project insofar as the black primer does not adhere to the plastic and has caused numerous paint lifts off from the Kabuki tape. Persevering here!
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/8/0/2/1370802-36121-11-720.jpg)
Finally finished camouflage and then used the oils. Pledge polished prior to decals
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/8/0/4/1370804-36121-99-720.jpg)
Underside similarly oil washed. Wings and horizontal stabilisers are dry fitted. This kit is great in that respect allowing you to do the 5 separate parts of finishing it off before the final assembly
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/8/0/1/1370801-36121-99-720.jpg)
Three-quarter view.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/8/0/3/1370803-36121-45-720.jpg)
I hope to finish ‘88 this side of the NY if I have some time tomorrow before the obligatory evening at the pub!!
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/4/7/1/1373471-36121-70-720.jpg)
Managed to get a better fit on the gondola-lower fuselage joint. It’s the one notable deficiency in this otherwise great build. Decals on too.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/4/7/2/1373472-36121-99-720.jpg)
Many many decals and stencils
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/4/7/3/1373473-36121-55-720.jpg)
For me, best part of any build…..when you look back at the decals once placed.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/4/7/4/1373474-36121-55-720.jpg)
Each row of red dashed lines is a separate decal….so this took a whole afternoon- decals are quick to soak and come off.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/4/7/5/1373475-36121-98-720.jpg)
Will weather around/over the decals to blend into the main camo schemes.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/2/3/1/1376231-36121-94-720.jpg)
A little more progress today.....
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/2/2/9/1376229-36121-21-720.jpg)
Wings on, smokes added to exhausts.....
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/2/3/0/1376230-36121-90-720.jpg)
Wing tip lights and spinners add a bit of extra interest.....
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/2/3/2/1376232-36121-90-720.jpg)
undersides suitably 'dirtied'....well, after all it is the Battle of Britain...
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/2/3/4/1376234-36121-43-720.jpg)
Fit on this has been superb, apart from the gondola. Also the 'towel-rail' antennae are provided in the kit, but no instructions as to where and how to locate them. I also found when applying the main decals, out that they included the harnesses....again not stated in the instructions!!
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/2/3/3/1376233-36121-60-720.jpg)
all ready for the wheels, (to be weathered and added).
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/4/5/0/1377450-36121-64-720.jpg)
Last few pieces- aerials, undercarriage doors, and MGs. I keep breaking bits, and the pitot will be replaced by the ubiquitous guitar string. A “G” I think!…
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/0/1/5/1380015-36121-41-720.jpg)
Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’
That’s pretty much all the pieces on.
Some final touch ups, the wire and then we’re landing at Orly airstrip

Count me in 👍. Spinner were probably showing Staffel colours (2. staffel white, 3rd yellow?) I can check my references when back home.

Thanks Villiers, I wish there were better on line references for the many subjects I wish to complete. This kit is practically building itself

In case it helps Andy, here's a link to my collection of colour Ju88 pics. pinterest.co.uk/newcareerguru/junkers-ju-88/. Cannot promise all are original colour, but I try to weed out the obviously colourised pics. I also have this kit on my shelf so will follow for sure. 🙂

Great reference Thomas! So, for die erste Staffel, the colour should be white!

The one thing I love about Scalemates is when you come to help a member with a query. So <<chapeaux>> Thomas and Moreno for your contributions!

Whait a moment Andy. First Staffel is white, but third is yellow.
In this case, your aircraft belongs to the third, right?

I'm pretty much out the box on this one Moreno, so am assuming the yellow spinners are correct- and did they also have a white collar around the front of the nacelles too?

Cheers Alberto, it helps to have good material to work with in the first place

After what you achieved with the Sparviero, I have no issue with the midwife.

Guy, it was car primer that said it was excellent for all types of plastic, and again cheap and in a spray can. Never again! Thanks for the comment too- I'm trying to tidy up these builds before the NY…., and you?…

I'm hoping to complete the Aichi Val and then attempt to finally finish the very slow progress thus far with the Caproni 311. The B-17 will be one for 2023 methinks. 🙂

I have been watching this come together nicely since October and a couple of days ago I scored a copy of this kit off the bargain shelf of my local hobby store. I guess someone didn't like it and returned it, so my gain because this kit has a lot of nice detail for the price point; never mind that I got it for half price 😁 Hoping to see some more build photos. Cheers!

Rui, you'll love this kit! The only issue is the gondola fitting underneath I believe. I'm not there yet, but will post when I am.

@Ł 3 active: this, Sunderland, and start of Shturmovik. Il-62 is on hold as I scratch my head to know what to do with it….😂

Looking good Andy 👍🏻
Funny coincidence, a KG51 Me262 with the same code, 9kAl, crashed down in 1944 about a kilometre or two from were I live.

![](/profiles/img/36121-874-s.jpg)
So the codes weren't specific to the planes? I'm fascinated by the fact that mainland Europeans have so much battle heritage on their doorsteps. We only have, mainly, crash sites (in our village and surroundings about 5 Lancasters 😞)

![](/profiles/img/41967-490-s.jpg)
The codes were specific to the units, the individual planes were identified by the werknummer, the production code.

Congrats Andy. This turned out looking fantastic. Moreover it looks exactly like how I think a 1940 Ju 88 would look. I say that because I've had an unhealthy obsession with RLM colours for a very long time! I like your 70/71 uppers. Dark and not too contrasty. A blueish tint on the 70 and an olive tint on the 71. Spot on. I think the 65 looks good too. A lot of refs and colour charts/chips show this as quite an intense light blue, but I don't see that in most photos and I think the greyer version you have looks much better. Your B&W pics suggest to me that you're about as close to authentic colours as it's possible to get today. 🙂

@Neil: thanks again for the look-see....I just use the Vallejo's out of the dropper bottles and weather...do you remember our conversation about the FW-200 Condor?, the 2 greens- 72/73- on that are so so similar, but I'm guessing need to be right and not 70/71 as Trumpeter suggested.
@Dave: the journey was reasonably straight forward, Revell have a good kit here.
@Villiers, Alec, J35J and CaptGPF appreciate the visit and your comments

P.S. I have added the "Ladewagen LWC 500/ IX with SC250 bomb" which is a sweet little PUR-PE addition, and I'll add to a diorama one day (wen I'm retired and have plenty of time to do more!)....

Grazie Roberto! And may I ask why more Italians don't drive Alfa Giulias?….as they're a credit to all Italian car building!!!

Concerning. Alfa Romeo I'll wait for Roberto's answer, then I'll will add my point 😉
Spoiler: I'll strictly prefer Lancia

Oh Moreno!, my poster car in the 70s was never a Countach…but an Alitalia Stratos….one day one day…or a 2000HF. Currently Giulia Veloce - waiting for a QV or Maserati Gran Cabrio…
