Added varnish so next time paint and parts will be protected. Should have done that sooner 😛
Some weathering stuff is on order and probably won't be in until juli.

Album image #5
Made it a bit more weathered.

Album image #6
Got most of the stuff I need. Forgot to order two items so maybe I get lucky at the ESM tomorrow 🙂

Album image #7
My first attempt at woodwork 😄 Any tips are welcome!

Album image #8
Still not sure whether I should go for a button cell battery or two AA batteries. Hope the shop will give me some solid advice tomorrow.
Of course if any of you guys (or galls) have the answer, feel free to share 🙂 😉

Album image #9
Got the PVA on.

Album image #10
And top for carving in the tank tracks. Will need to dry for a bit.

Track depression in place

Album image #13
Fit is ok. Maybe even too deep as there will also be a layer of grass/mud added.

Album image #14
Got the grass on with a PVA/weathering powder mixture. I'm not sure if this is going as planned, since the PVA mixture doesn't seem to get in between the grass.

Album image #15
Will let it dry over the weekend as we're out of town. We'll see the result on Monday.

Album image #16
Slowly getting there.

Album image #17
I couldn't resist 😄 Now its really time to muddy things up.

Album image #18
Trying these three. The AK earth effect is already a no no for a mud effect 😛

Album image #19
After first clean-up attempt. Will probably need 3 or 4 washes with clean white spirit.

I'm curious about the final effect 🙂

I can see something interesting on the second plane 😉. Still looking forward for what happens next.

As am I, it will be my first attempt 🙂 might be a while before I post an update on the explosion 😇 but weathering will start soon.
The plane was next to it on the WIP shelf, so started painting it as well. Will post some pictures in another album someday 😉

….. "There was supposed to be an earth shattering explosion!" 😳

Hahaha, my apologies 😉 will make for it when finished. (Hopefully) I'll definitely give it my best "shot" 🙃

Quick question... When giving the tank a wash some parts fell off and I had to glue them back on.
Since I use Tamiya extra thin and normal I decided to do a test by glueing some spreus together and use the Humbrol Enamel Thinner on them. Now in my test the bond between the glued parts (for both glues) just dissolved.
Have any of you experienced something similar or is it just Humbrol Enamel Thinner? Or did I just mess up by not varnishing the model before weathering. Normally I do it but thought, ehhhh, this one time... 😛

Welcome aboard!
Guess I'll just stick to varnishing from now on 🙂

Next step will be the lighting/explosion, but I will probably safe that for the fall. Will also need to buy some necessities for this part as well.

Nice idea; I'm in. Illumination: in most cases 2x1,5 V is enough for several LED's. Witch kind/color of LED's you will use Peter? Important: you need a resistor/resistors as protection for the LED's.

Hi Bernhard,
Thanks! Then I will use 2xAAA 🙂. I was thinking of a yellow LED and compliment it with orange and black accents on the cotton wool.
LED link: modelbouwled.nl/cont..Bedraad_12_Volt.html
Or warm white: modelbouwled.nl/cont..Bedraad_12_Volt.html

It does say 12V, will that be a problem? There should be an build in resistor in those pre wired LED's.
Thanks for the help!

Bernhard Schrock
If you connect a LED with an integrated resistor (calculated for 12 V) to 3 V, it will light up very weak. I suppose the integrated resistor should be have about 470-680 ohm. You have to replace this resistor with a 47 ohm - Type and your yellow LED will be light up bright. For a red or orange LED use a resistor with 68 ohm (forward voltage about 1,6 - 1,9 V, less than yellow LED).

Cool, thanks! I have some shopping to do 😇

Unfortunately the shop is still closed due to illness. Maybe better luck tomorrow. I will continue work on the base though.

Are you planning on using C4 or penthrite for the explosion ?
28 December 2022, 12:43
Peter de Bruin
If I had C4 I would use it 😄
But the effect should be an explosive cookoff, nice and fiery from the fuel and ammo going along in the bang. This will be my first time both making a dio and working with LED's.

Thanks Villiers! I hoped to go faster, but easy does it and on the bright side I just finished my first ever soldering job and it works 🙂

Welcome aboard Lukas!

I have a bad feeling about the PVA mix getting trough to the grass. Does anyone have tips on how to make it work?
My second bet would be to use AK enamel earth effect to soak trough, but I'm afraid it'll damage the grass.

Cool, thanks Lukas! I'll have a look this weekend 🙂

Peter de Bruin
Watched it 🙂 Impressive work in the vid, thanks for sharing! Should have started differently as I deliberately chose to use a pre made grass mat since I don't have a static applicator. Seeing the difference in results I will definitely consider buying a static applicator for a next project.
For this project I will experiment with the different kind of mud's to see what works best and hopefully don't mess up the grass entirely, as it's already a bit compressed but seems to be fine for the scale though.

Looks good Peter 🙂 no worry!!

Peter de Bruin
Thanks Lukas! I should really finish this one sometime soon, I keep procrastinating as I don't want to mess it up but the only way to learn is by trying stuff out.
To be continued!

Album info

I've had a T-90 on the WIP stack primed up for two years now and decided that it might be fun to make it an exploding T-90.
