Pink Tank

Album image #1
I want to share with you an old project I did as a request of a friend who wanted a pink tank. Just to color any tank in pink was no option of cause for a serios modeller. So I did my research. And that is what I came up with: A T-34 located in London and painted as part of an Art happening.

Album image #2
Dragons kit is lovely. But to build it out of the box? No way!

Album image #3
Modified exhausts

Album image #4
Homemade auxilliary tanks on PE supports taken from Eduards PE set.

Album image #5
Turret casting structure done with Mr. surfacer 500

Album image #6
Some more detailling

Album image #7
The tracks of the kit are impossible. Voyager offered a solution to my taste.

Album image #8
individual link PE tracks in scale 1:72. My kind of stuff.

Album image #9
The result: superb.

Album image #10
Ready? Oh no. Wrong wheels.

Album image #11
Those come from MR Modellbau and come closer to the real thing.

Album image #12
But casting was awful.

Album image #13
Axle holes were off center. So, them wheels really gave me a hard time. Nowadays I would go for OKB Grigorov.

Album image #15
Now it is ready for some camoflage

After a light wash with grey the tank is ready for the dio.

Album image #24
It was clear from the beginning, to put this tank into its natural habitat. Meaning, to model the real estate where it stands. Here you see a screenshot from Google Earth.

Album image #25
And here a Google Street View caption.

Album image #26
My layout of the corner real estate.

Album image #27
fencepoles were bent from styrene slates and colored

Album image #28
Foam sheets helped build the house wall

Album image #29
clay was used to create the brick wall.

Album image #30
Album image #31
bricks were colored individually and plaster of paris served as mortar.

Album image #32
after some weathering

Album image #33
The top was done with sandpaper.

Album image #34
I used putty for plaster and styrene sheet for the roof.

Album image #35
That looked too dull

Album image #36
So I used sandpaper and profiles to create this roof.

Album image #37

Album image #38
Now the house wall is almost ready with its Banksy-Grafittis on. Those Grafittis appeared later, when the tank already wore another color. But I liked those, had the pics from the net modified for my needs by my brother and created the decals.

Album image #39
Back to the dio. The plants (and rope) I wanted to use for the gras.

Album image #40
Preparing the base. Sidewalk already advanced.

Album image #41
putting plants to simulate plants. 🙂

Album image #42
Done. Took a while but I am happy with the result.

Album image #43

Album image #44
Some color on

Album image #45
Real estate done.

Album image #46
I skipped the tree which stood on the left side as it would have blocked the view.

The fence is actually the only aspect that did not turn out the way I wanted it. In parts it is too slack and the barbed wire does not look too convincing either. But apart from that, I am quite happy with the result.

Album image #57
Yes, the colors look bright, but if you compare it with the first pic I think that is fine.

I actually added three Preiser civilians but obviously forgot to take some pics afterwards. Meanwhile the pink tank has been handed over to my friend and was received with a warm welcome.

Nice work. 👍

🙂 Can't wait to see which Stompie livery you pick next... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandela_Way_T-34_Tank

Thanx Spanjaard.
@Mark: oh yeah, now that you mention it. Stompie is the name of that tank. I almost forgot. Well, there will not be another livery of it in the near future, but certainly another Dragon T-34. And I already have an idea - as well a bit off the beaten tracks...
@Mona: I fully understand that 🙂

I've seen that you've used pe tracks.
I want to use the same for mine, how was the assembly?
29 October 2021, 19:15
Michael Kohl
Hi Simon. Actually the PE tracks from Voyager were quite easy to assemble. I recommend, that you bend them over a drill which is 0,1 mm thicker than the wire, that comes with the fret. By doing so you get a nice round shape of the latches and it is easy to insert the wire. Mind, that the wire provided with the PE set is not long enought (at least it was not at my set). So have some replacement at hand. Other than that, it worked like a charm.

Nice replica. Good work on the ground work and building walls and fence. Very realistic. Is that Banksy work on the walls?

Thanks mates for your nice comments and likes.
@Robbie: I am anxious to see in which color it will come back.
@Cabeza Plástico: yes, indeed. Historically they are not 100% correct, as they appeared when Stompie had a different livery, but I liked them so much, that I had to add them.
