Lancer in 1:48? it must be quite a big size fellow! Rotary Launcher looks certainly good

It is at 1:48 scale! I have yet to figure out where to place her once she is done. Well worth the majestic size!

Thank you Gary. It is coming along slowly. I realized that looking at the pictures of the bays and other parts of the plane makes me want to add more details to the model. The research gets in the way and I end up completing a small amount at a time.

Nice job, Jorge. I did this kit with all the Baracuda upgrades about 2 years ago. It was a tough build, so kudos for tackling it. I didn't do rotary launchers, though. Instead, I chose to add lights, so I used two bomb bays for storing the the 9V battery and the arduino control board. Great job feathering the new nacelles into the engine housing. I know that wasn't easy.

Thank you for the comments gents. Casey, I was contemplating on using lights as well but that would just add on to the project and would take me too long to complete. I see so many examples on the internet that my mind races to build all sorts of cool stuff with the model (diorama's, led lights, in-flight set up with a launching of ordnance in a diorama, etc.). By chance, do you have any pics of that build?

Jorge - yep, I sure do. You motivated me to get the project and album created on my profile (I finished it before I was on ScaleMates), so thanks for asking! I hope the pictures help, and good luck with the rest of your build!

Jorge i think sometimes we can get over keen to add detail after detail and before you know it the project takes so much longer or even ends up on the shelve of doom because you loose the passion for what you are trying to achieve.
I was listening to a pod cast on Spotify with Geoff Coughlin (the editor of scale modelling now) over the weekend and he said he knows a modeller who does some truly stunning work and really goes to town on the detail but hardly ever finishes a model because he is always adding to the build after discovering new pictures or other reference materials.
I think the key thing is to enjoy what you are doing but have a cut off point where you say that's enough.
Personally getting into that level of detail i find can be a mojo killer and i loose the enjoyment of the build, but i really admire people like yourself who love getting down to that level of detail. So well done Sir. 😉
Looking forward to seeing your next progress update.
All the best to you.

it is a question of what you enjoy and what you want to do. some will go to extreme detailing, and finish the model (whatever it takes may not matter) and others will go to OOB without any extra detail. what matters is that it makes you happy 😉 even if you never finish, if it makes you happy making half models, then ... be happy 🙂

Casey, can't wait to see your past project. Gary and Spanjaard, thank you for your words of inspiration. This is my third build with all the "latest" accessories and tools. I built several models as a teenager back 30 years ago and rediscovered this love just recently. So far, it has been frustrating but fun learning about PE, airbrushing and resin parts (to say the least) so it is safe to say, let the modelling continue!

Fantastic result so far Jorge!! Paint job is great

Thanks Erik! Because of the sheer size, just moving her around I end up nicking the paint and have to do touch ups, constantly. Can't wait to get her completed.

I know your pain a bit since I'm busy with a 1/48 YF-12 which also is quite big, but the Bone is from another level 😄. Good luck whit the finishing touches, it will be a impressive beast!

I chose to not even mess with the bomb bays and closed mine up. You wont be able to see that stuff while its sitting there, so I wasnt going to waste the effort. LOL The time spent doing those nacelles was enough on its own. And I simply used the supplied FOD covers with the intake kit because they look great and there was just too much stuff inside that would need to be done to make it look decent after hacking it up and puttying and all that.

Yours looks great!

I may end up doing that on my second build Donald. This has taken me over a year now to complete.
