Revell Hawker Hunter FGA.9
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/8/5/7/604857-32952-63-720.jpg)
For OOTB there is some nice detail included. The seat belts some of the best. Tricky to paint at this scale but worth a shot.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/8/5/8/604858-32952-69-720.jpg)
With a first coat on the detail still cuts through nicely. The relief on the instrument panel is very good.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/8/5/9/604859-32952-55-720.jpg)
Seriously thought about not using the decals for the instruments.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/8/6/0/604860-32952-73-720.jpg)
With the decals on,...well not bad but they dont seem to line up with the relief underneath at all
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/8/7/1/604871-32952-42-720.jpg)
Probably would have been better to scrape off the relief. This looks ok but odd that the decals dont line up.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/8/7/2/604872-32952-52-720.jpg)
A little gunk and pretty much it for the bang seat and cockpit.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/8/7/7/604877-32952-27-720.jpg)
All together.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/8/7/3/604873-32952-37-720.jpg)
Joining up the fuselage. Very good only needing a little tape. Worth checking the cockpit is sitting properly in its runners from the front wheel bay.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/1/4/0/607140-32952-60-720.jpg)
Bit of a seam along the top edge. There is a bit of flashing on most parts of the kit.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/1/4/1/607141-32952-30-720.jpg)
The lower seam needs a bit more work. Sanded down pretty well without any real need for filler.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/1/4/2/607142-32952-89-720.jpg)
An odd place to start painting inside the air vents. Have to do so to get the straight painted intake lines.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/1/4/3/607143-32952-33-720.jpg)
See what i mean ?
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/1/4/4/607144-32952-38-720.jpg)
Getting some paint on. Used the suggested colour (Dusty Grey Matt 77) which looks very dark.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/1/4/5/607145-32952-88-720.jpg)
Packing in the fairly hefty 5g nose weight.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/1/4/6/607146-32952-53-720.jpg)
Adding in the green(Bronze green matt 65). It does rather all look a bit too dark. Reference shot is actually fairly close. A good starting point for weathering.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/1/4/7/607147-32952-46-720.jpg)
Glossed up ready for weathering and lightening up a bit.It looks rather nice with the high gloss finish. I have seen a few highly polished like this but I will probably opt for a duller matt in the end.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/3/4/7/614347-32952-46-720.jpg)
A very wet white enamel/thinner wash applied. Aloud to dry a bit then panel lines lifted out with neat thinner.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/3/5/8/614358-32952-61-720.jpg)
Re-glossed for panel lining. Really dulls off the white staining allowing the under colour to come back through.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/3/5/9/614359-32952-88-720.jpg)
Starting the underside. Some very nice detail surprising in a budget kit. Landing flaps are an unexpected bonus. All Email 99 Aluminium. Its a bit grainy but i like it.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/3/6/0/614360-32952-11-720.jpg)
More nice detail. Unusual to see hydraulics in the mould. Nice one!
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/3/6/1/614361-32952-90-720.jpg)
Some rather heavy handed panel lining. Just diluted Email Black.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/3/6/2/614362-32952-74-720.jpg)
That turned out alright really. The panel lines are not that deep so I expected some loss after two layers paint/varnish.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/3/6/3/614363-32952-96-720.jpg)
The lower fuselage panel lines were a doddle. Actually got a little capillary action!! Perhaps a bit dark?
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/3/6/4/614364-32952-20-720.jpg)
This was a fun bit! Gotta cut up the decals to match the FOUR parts of the lowered undercarrige. Please Revell - do this for us.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/3/6/5/614365-32952-75-720.jpg)
Yes, that was a bit tricky involving a lot of guess work.Oh well, nobody will notice if they are a bit out.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/3/6/6/614366-32952-13-720.jpg)
So after slicing up the decals a few bits went astray. Not a bad fit but some painting in will be needed.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/3/6/7/614367-32952-10-720.jpg)
Adding a light grey wash.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/3/6/8/614368-32952-18-720.jpg)
After the grey wash and redoing the panel lines the surface pitting is looking a bit more effective.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/3/6/9/614369-32952-12-720.jpg)
On with a matt varnish and everthing is starting to blend together
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/3/7/0/614370-32952-64-720.jpg)
Finishing off the panel lining. Looks great. Pleased with it.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/3/7/1/614371-32952-11-720.jpg)
Painting in some wheel bay details.

Impressive Mike. There was/is an old Hunter in front of the af base near the camping I used to go on summer holidays.

Thanks Stephan, Martin and Christian. Yes, its not bad that for OOTB. In retrospect I would probably have painted up the instruments rather than use the decals. Overall very impressed with this little kit so far. There is some very nice detail included for a budget kit.

Used the suggested Revell colours for this build. I think they are rather too dark? But then again Hunters were rather a darkish scheme. Some highlighting should lift things up a bit.

Hi Hans. A work in progress! I used the green suggested by Revell - Email 65 Bronze green matt. Yes it is very dark by comparison. However, it is probably a fair match for an 'as new' scheme. They had a pretty dark scheme originally. Most recent(er)pics of Hunters show them pretty faded etc. I am working on that now. A few more pics to add yet!

Thats it Hans! Just playing around really on this relatively cheap kit. I must say it is a rather good cheap kit.

Well spotted Martin! Left that till I got something that worked. Its done now, well nearly. Thanks mate.

This Hunter has been in the wild for a while it seems... 🙂 top job in 1:72!

Thank you Neuling and Slavo. Yes heavy weathering. Was aiming at about ten years out in the rain. A bit of an experiment really using dilute enamel hand brushed washes. Its a bit hit and miss!

Very nice build. I like this heavy weathering. Your experiment was successful

Interesting weathering, Mike. It looks like it has been 10 years in the sun, rather than in the rain...

Lovely build Mike, the weathering looks quite a bit like the "dummy" aircraft that used to be left out on airfields during the Cold War.

Thanks Martien, Gordan and Guy. Yes Gordan I see what you mean. Bleached rather than stained. A subtle difference and one to explore further! Yes Guy I used some pics for reference. Very pleased it resembles that look. What I was aiming for(ish).

Album info
Nice little budget kit with some unexpected bonuses for the price. Notably the drop wing flaps and rocket packs.
I will be building pretty much OOTB but if you want too add a few extra details then have a look at Rogério "Rato" Marczak excellent site. It has a wealth of possible enhancements.
