nice progress, I presume it was a lot of sanding to get the plating right...

Count me in here for sure! Can someone tell me why she had this "three turrets on the bow" layout? Only makes sense to me when you want to take most Advantage of "crossing the T"... Otherwise ist pretty ugly, though😄

seams to be a case of heavy guns and design limitations due too the Washington Naval Treaty too prevent another arms race as in the period before WWI... looks weird idd

Holger, as Bart above mentioned, both ships were designed following the Washington Naval Treaty. The treaty limited the main gun caliber to 16" (406mm) and 35.000ts displacment standard. That means without fuel and water. The uniqe design was a novelty in battleship design. The main battery arrangment with three triple turrets forward for exampl, reduced the weight of armor because of a shorter citadel compared to a conventional design with two turrets fore and aft. The main design was laid out for best protection and firepower to the detriment of speed.
Nelson and Rodney were hard used ships in WWII. Rodney took a main part in sinking Bismarck and both ships shelled the beaches in North Afrika, Sicily and Normandy.
All in all the concept worked well, but there were a lot of disadvanteges because of less speed for fast carrier operations, a limitation in manouvering because oft he design and a limitation of the main batteries arc of fire.
I like the unique design and hope they will release the scale 1/350 model soon.

I know bot ships well but this question was always in my mind. Thank you bot for the nice explaining D)!
It's a Pitty that both ships have been scrapped so early...

They were worn off Holger and the RN still had their modern KGV's and Vanguard in progress and the time for battlewaggons was over at the end of WWII.

Interesting WIP Thumbs up - both -
I´ll join in. Could you please give me a hint, why you sprayed the Hull plates in Black at first? A kind of pre-shading? Pic no. 6 shows what makes me ask.

Hi Udo. first I sprayed it several times sanding the upper planks down as the planks in the kit are too big in my eyes. Then the black was a pre-shading 🙂
