2 at one time, hang in there, you can make it!

I'll do my best mate...
19 April 2012, 09:22
Urban Gardini
A little more is done...
22 April 2012, 22:19
Bill Gilman
Looking good! I always thought the I-16 belonged at the air races, it reminds me of the racers from the 30s.
23 April 2012, 02:22
Urban Gardini
Thanks! There's something special with this bird.
23 April 2012, 07:46
Mike Kryza
The first pics are looking good - but in 1:72 it's a very "little" bird.
23 April 2012, 07:54
Urban Gardini
Thanks! I've got it in 1:48 as well n' then it looks like a 1:72 kit so it's a small bird allright.
23 April 2012, 09:28
Wilfried Bogaerts
Urban, with your kind permission, I'm gonna follow this build with interest
23 April 2012, 10:27
Wilfried Bogaerts
I bet it is even smaller than the Brewster Buffalo?
23 April 2012, 10:28
Urban Gardini
You bet that mate! I prove it for you then as you can see in the last two comparison photos.

Oh my, yes, it is even smaller then I could imagine, thx for the comparpix Urban!
23 April 2012, 11:04
Urban Gardini
No problem mate!
23 April 2012, 11:22
Bill Gilman
It's size is what reminds me of the 1930s air racers, like the planes built by the Granville Brothers (GeeBee). And the general layout, with a large engine cowling (compared to the fuselage) and the location of the cockpit near the trailing edge of the wing. For its time, it must have been a little "hot rod" as we say over here.
23 April 2012, 13:04
Urban Gardini
Takin' shape! I've managed to build a little bit more tonight...
23 April 2012, 22:27
Urban Gardini
Success n' failure together hand in hand in an uneventful n' unproductive day.

Drilled out the fuselage MG's n' failed in my atempt to drill out the MG's on one of the birds.

Wilfried Bogaerts
Oops, these things can happen 🙁 but I'm sure you'll fix it. Why that putty/Mr. Surfacer around the edges of the cooling openings?
25 April 2012, 16:26
Urban Gardini
It's not putty at all. Just me bein' lazy dabblin' the paint with a brush. Forgot the inside when I airbrushed the rest.
25 April 2012, 16:47
Urban Gardini
Finaly, after nearly two months without doin' anything on this build or any other build for that matter I've managed today to put 'em both on their legs. Nothin' complicated with it but a bit tedious with all the small parts. I've crawled on the floor swearin' with a flashlight searchin' for parts half of the buildtime today.

Augie
looking god Urban, thought of hanging them under a suitible Tupolov?
19 June 2012, 22:43
Urban Gardini
Nah, they're nice as it is without that uglyness...
19 June 2012, 22:47
Augie
fair enough, was mearly an idea 🙂

I´m looking forward to see the result after removing the salt!
21 June 2012, 17:41
Bill Gilman
I'm liking it! Using the salt for paint chips?
21 June 2012, 17:42
Augie
looking good 🙂
21 June 2012, 17:45
Urban Gardini
Yepp, my first try with salt.
21 June 2012, 17:49
Holger Kranich
So i´m more exited about the result! I tryed it once on a Bf-110 but it didnt worked for me ( Maybe because i painted with a brush...), so good luck!!!
21 June 2012, 17:54
Wilfried Bogaerts
Very curious about the outcome, I like it already !

A seasoned Polikarpov from a seasoned modeler😉
21 June 2012, 18:32
Urban Gardini
Thanks mates, I'm not done yet n' there's still plenty of room for misstakes here...
21 June 2012, 18:39
Dave Flitton
errrrr...before putting the salt on, did you put silver paint underneath the area to be weathered?
21 June 2012, 18:43
Urban Gardini
No, I didn't as I only wanted the base coat to be visible under the white. The other bird will be nice n' clean.
21 June 2012, 19:49
Urban Gardini
Now it's time to call it quits for the weekend...
22 June 2012, 15:22

Say what you want, but... the Rata is an ugly plane!
However, you did a good on them so far. 👍 The finals are close..., I suppose.
28 January 2013, 23:41
Urban Gardini
I'd call it "Fugly"...
28 January 2013, 23:48

Cute little buggers, aren't they? 🙂
29 January 2013, 15:19
Michel Huijghe
Not bad and knowing how small the I-16 is on 1/48th scale how tiny must it be in 1/72nd scale.
29 January 2013, 17:49
Urban Gardini
Thanks! They're far from big but they're indeed cute little buggers...
29 January 2013, 18:03
Michel Huijghe
I've made one in 1/48th scale and when comparing it to my Il-2 there small.
30 January 2013, 07:46
