sometimes some text from some users gets replaced with question marks (at least in my browser). usually it is from countries where other alphabets are used, but today for example i saw it with a post from somebody in US. SCM Newsfeed (Steve Cassidy 4. March, 18:45)

same here, I assume it is an Emoticon directly added from the phone. I'll investigate ...

we support many alphabets since day one (ok, maybe a bit later)... small test:

На берегу пустынных волн Стоял он, дум великих полн, И вдаль глядел. Пред ним широко

受罚者

you are probably right. i see a line in proper Cyrillic characters, one in Chinese and one in Japanese (all according to google translate when i copy and paste those lines). all 3 look ok and can be copy paste into google translate without issues

I'll investigate if I can capture the common ones and transform them to standard scalemates entries

Yes! More emojis!

I don't think the plan is to increase the number of supported emojis, instead it's to try recognizing "special" characters from the emoji font set and translate them to the standard SCM emoji syntax. One of these might be helpful... [img1]

@Starbase101 That way lies madness 😄 Its a bit of a rabbit hole.... unicode.org/emoji/charts/full-emoji-list.html. It's up to Tim obvs but directly supporting the unicode with something like code.iamcal.com/php/emoji/ may be of use.

I wonder if the easier path is a) fully support emojis with a library then b) map the common scalemates shorthand to unicode? Also xkcd.com/927/ 😄

Great work Tim! The newsfeed is likely to get more colorful now. For people using the desktop version rather than access through a tiny phone screen, would there be a way of adding a small sort of "toolbar" above text fields (collapsed by default, but could be expanded with a "gear" icon) where you could offer clickable emojis for inserting, and bold/italic text options? This would provide access to the new emoji support for non-phone-users, and offer the ability to highlight/emphasize text without SHOUTING. 🙂
