I had this kit for years, never opened it and was curious as to what it contained !

Chris Greathouse
Very detailed parts! Lots of pictures of the parts for you Bob. And I find it interesting that the decals and PE are from Aoshima. Anybody know the history between the 2 companies?

Chris Greathouse
After a few days, I'm back at it! Not a lot of pieces, but nicely detailed... The pieces have been snipped and sanded.

I'll bet money it's a Toyota car over in Asia. Just change the badges and charge the Americans twice as much LOL. Looks like a nice kit.

And the winner is Nathan for calling it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny thing too is that my Tamiya Lexus LS 400 has those same PE parts for the wheels and hood ornament too.
2 June 2019, 02:05
Chris Greathouse
So does Aoshima sell their decals and PE to other companies?
2 June 2019, 02:14
Bob Hall
It was common to least kits in other markets, In the states we all knew AMT, they been around since the 30's but no one knew who the hell Aoshima was back then, so it was re-boxed under license and sold on the U.S. Markets. Look at the "Revell Premium" line, they are mostly Tamiya kits in a Revell box.

Chris Greathouse
That's an interesting fact Bob, thanks. and logical.
2 June 2019, 02:34
Bob Hall
Common ! Notice the only difference on the BMW boxes are the manufacture name, otherwise identical !
2 June 2019, 02:40
Chris Greathouse
I hate colored plastic... Primed black pieces they are in the cup in the rear... To get to the white color I did a coat of grey followed by the white.
2 June 2019, 23:10
Bob Hall
The Tamiya kit is all molded in a Mother of Pearl White plastic, and like your Eclipse it came with 2 Hoods one White other Clear, odd for a sedan.
3 June 2019, 00:35
Chris Greathouse
Yeah, that is odd for a sedan.
3 June 2019, 00:38
Bob Hall
What scheme you going with ? If I build mine, I was thinking Black with Gold trim and a light tan leather interior.
3 June 2019, 00:44
Chris Greathouse
The top half of the body will be White, bottom half will be Sky Grey. There is a chrome stripe that joins the two halfs. Interior will be Leather Brown and Stone Wall Grey.
3 June 2019, 00:55
Bob Hall
Nice

3 June 2019, 01:50
Chris Greathouse
That's what I'm going to do, except the dark tan will be Stone Wall Grey.
3 June 2019, 01:57
Chris Greathouse
I think I will go more tan than leather brown... I think it'll look better with the stone wall grey.
3 June 2019, 19:26
Chris Greathouse
The tan part of the tan/stone wall grey interior is done. Next is spaying black while these dry, then back to these and masking for the grey.

Chris Greathouse
I'm giddy as hell!! 😄 😄 A perfect mask job, no bleed through!! I went slow and didn't let the wet paint accumulate, not easy for me to slow down enough to concentrate... +1 for me 😄 Tomorrow will be a grey day... Literally 😛 Cheers mates!
4 June 2019, 07:59
Nathan Dempsey
Coming along nicely Chris.
4 June 2019, 11:59
Bob Hall
Very Nice ! I Think I'll Pull over nothing but Lexus today ! LOL !
5 June 2019, 18:56
Martin Oostrom
So your birthday is a grey day? I wonder what the rest of the year is, colour wise 😉
5 June 2019, 20:44
Chris Greathouse
The grey (paint) day was supposed to be yesterday... But I ended up making a paint rack for my hobby paints. So 'tis grey today 😄
5 June 2019, 21:01
Nathan Dempsey
Happy happy birthday Chris!
5 June 2019, 21:38
Chris Greathouse
Thanks guys!
5 June 2019, 21:43
Nigel
Hey Chris, hope you have a greyt/great day! (beer)
5 June 2019, 21:50
Chris Greathouse
I see what you did there 😛 Thanks mate! *beer taken*

Secondary interior color done!!!

I live in a small but tall room. I made a loft/bunk for my queen bed and made my office space below it. I was tired of digging in a rubbermaid for a single paint. I made this paint rack on the bed rails. I really like it!

I love the bunk setup, like you said, there's so much room. It's cool that I have two separate areas in the same footprint. And enough room for my DXRacer chair (tall chair) plus a couple inches. Plenty of headroom in the office area.

Chris Greathouse

1) The body will be white and sky grey, what panel line color should I be using? Black seems like it might be too bold on a white body.

2) Aaaaaand will a wash made from acrylic Vallejo paint work in the same way as the Tamiya panel line? Or do you know a trick to make it work similarly? (I know the Tamiya is an enamel). Thanks guys for your answers!
7 June 2019, 20:17
Chris Greathouse
The two body colors are done. Next is a chrome stripe to meet the two halves, along with chrome trim on the windows, and the grill frame in the front.
7 June 2019, 23:38
Martin Oostrom
Sorry mate, can't help you with an acrylic wash over acrylic paint. I can't imagine it will work. You'll need acrylic thinner to remove excess wash and might kill the paint job
7 June 2019, 23:59
Chris Greathouse
That's the conclusion that I came to as well. If I had the appropriate enamel, which color would best fit with white?

Also can you recommend a good panel line set? I know Tamiya has a 3 or 4 color set.. any others?
8 June 2019, 00:04
Bob Hall
Maybe it's time to start trying the Bare Metal Foil for the trim.
8 June 2019, 00:11
Martin Oostrom
I've got a couple of these: migjimenez.com/en/41-aircraft-panel-line-wash
I don't know how they stack up to other brands.
For white I'd use a light/medium grey, black is too stark a contrast
8 June 2019, 00:15
Chris Greathouse
Thanks for the site and info! Each color on the site states proper color use 🙂
8 June 2019, 00:26
Chris Greathouse
So much tape for so little trim! lol, I enjoy masking... a thoughtful process 😄 Window trim and stripe are to be chrome.
8 June 2019, 19:43
Chris Greathouse
I've been thinking of BMF, but am apprehensive about it. I actually use delicate surface Frog Tape for the wide tape, and only have Tamiya in 6mm and their 2mm curvy vinyl tape.
8 June 2019, 19:56
Daniel Klink
GReat car and the paintjob looks very promising 👍
8 June 2019, 19:57
Chris Greathouse
All that masking paid off 😄 Only a couple touch-ups needed when I pulled the tape off. What color should I paint the grill? Usually it's black, but would that look weird/off with the lighter colors?
9 June 2019, 00:01
Nathan Dempsey
Looking great Chris. That masking worked well. I say chrome on the grill...
9 June 2019, 01:09
Chris Greathouse
Easy enough, and thanks Nathan!
9 June 2019, 01:11
Chris Greathouse
I went ahead with chroming it. I'm also pausing this project for a week(ish). The panel lines are really well defined, so I want to wash them with a light grey... Straight to my favorite webshop for Tamiya Panel Accent Line wash in the other Panel Line colors that I don't have (3 Greys and Brown) and some other supplies I need. Waiting on shipping, then back on track. In the meanwhile I'll start on my little spud of a fire engine. 🙂
9 June 2019, 04:09
Bob Hall
I got 20 bucks says his week pause turns into less than 48 hrs ! LOL ! Lexus looking good, I got 4 of them today !
9 June 2019, 04:14
Chris Greathouse
I gotta wait on processing and shipping... and no orders until monday usually. Then 4-8 days shipping.
9 June 2019, 04:28
Chris Greathouse
Do you buy foreign cars just so the boxes fill up space on your shelves? 😛
9 June 2019, 04:29
Bob Hall
Cool ! just messing with ya ! Cars looking great, and I know you have the next one on the block.
9 June 2019, 04:30
Chris Greathouse
I know 😛
9 June 2019, 04:31
Bob Hall
NO ! I pulled over 4 Lexus today !
9 June 2019, 04:33
Chris Greathouse
Oh lol!

While we wait on shipping, here's a jump to the next project.

Project 042 -- Subaru TT2 Sambar Fire Engine | Album by chrisagreat (1:24)

Chris Greathouse
Looks like the washes and paints I ordered'll be here on Wednesday the 19th. Tentatively (depending on the fire engines progress), panel lining and clear coating on Thursday, then building after.
12 June 2019, 03:53
Chris Greathouse
Glossed up and shiny! a few hours dry time and panel lines.... What do you think'll look better for lines, medium grey, or light grey?
19 June 2019, 20:04
Nathan Dempsey
Start with the lightest. If you dont like it, it will be easy to cover with the darker color.
19 June 2019, 20:30
Chris Greathouse
Good thinking.... starting now, thanks buddy!
19 June 2019, 20:35
Chris Greathouse
These lines aren't that crisp, but I hope to get better as I go along... I need to keep in mind line depth in the beginning of the project and rescribe if needed. and not to flood them with paint and clear making them useless for lining... That's going to be hard because I'm pretty trigger heavy with airbrush 🙁
19 June 2019, 21:15
Chris Greathouse
But it looks 100% better with the lines then without them... So +++ 😄
19 June 2019, 21:23
Martin Oostrom
Only do the opening panels (door/hood/etc). So not around the door handles. That would be too much.
19 June 2019, 21:26
Munkyslut
Awesome work, interior is bloody brilliant!
19 June 2019, 21:37
Chris Greathouse
Thanks Munky!
19 June 2019, 21:46
Bob Hall
Ya know what I do? Mechanical Pencil, Lightly draw in the lines before clear coat, you can rub off anything out side the panel lines with your finger, when acceptable, clear coat seals in the graphite.

I'm going to have to try that! Thanks Bob!

Frustrated with the cab of the Fire Extinguisher-To-Go... Started putting the Lexus together, Here's the interior glued up. There was a little bit of a suspension system. This is a small kit, but enjoyable as the same. Next, just some clear pieces for tail and headlights, and throwing the deck, interior and cabin together.
21 June 2019, 01:53
Chris Greathouse
Done putting the Lexus together, will get out the photo box tomorrow. 😄
21 June 2019, 02:49

Pictures up! Enjoy!

Nice job Chris. Good looking model of an ugly car!
21 June 2019, 18:48
Chris Greathouse
Thanks guys! Now to go fight with the fire truck!
21 June 2019, 18:51
Nathan Dempsey
Nice work there Chris. I think those color combinations worked out well.
21 June 2019, 19:41
Bob Hall
That's a Beauty ! Great Work, and I Agree with Nate, Great Color Combo, Bravo !
21 June 2019, 20:35
Chris Greathouse
Thanks! I agree on the colors, I like what I chose on this one 🙂
21 June 2019, 22:20
Chris Greathouse
I did like that I got to mess with smoke tinting on the sunroof, fun stuff, looks really cool.
21 June 2019, 22:23
Bob Hall
Need A Top Shot to get a good look at that Sun Roof.
