Thomas Hopfensperger This is a hybrid of Fagot and Fresco built 1978. Because there were no NVAF markings as Decals (my Microscale had yellow missing) i painted them...
4. November 2019 at 18:17:27
Dave Flitton How was the build? I like the paint job, impressive!
4. November 2019 at 19:52:24
Thomas Hopfensperger Thank you Dave!
It is long ago, but then i needed only 2 weeks for the build (i wrote it down on the instructions i have left) 79 not 78, 78 i built the PF, must have been easy therefore!! :)

Thomas Hopfensperger Hello mates,
this is my most timeconsuming model started 1980, stopped because the vacu was much too wrong. Then i stopped modelling for many years. After i started again i made the fuselage in sections. The glass is also made from scratch in 7 pieces plus black frame. It took 14 years to finish it in 1994. A picture was in ModellFan then. It is not the Trumpy model, it is easy to discern. "F-107" is cutted airbrush-foil and laquered. It took more than 400 hrs. Stencilling is Verlinden and Microscale as are the scratch decals. Only the wings are quite changed from Airmodel Vacu. Aerophile was my main reference...

Thomas Hopfensperger Hello mates,
here a model of mine which didnt make it. This pic is from around 1978/1979. The model 1:72 itself was built as soon as the kit was available in Germany. 1975?
Some remains do exist!

Thomas Hopfensperger Hello mates,
this is my Vigilante from USS America built in November 1979. I like the asian touch. I removed some tiny yellow life forms on edges with alcohol (nice death) and polished the canopy. There is a bit too much blue in the Gull Gray (this model didnt get yellowish since 1979, wouldnt hurt!).
Vigi is one of the hottest jets to me. Looks so fast and much too modern for 1958. Mother of XF-108 Rapier. More pix are coming....
14. October 2019 at 18:07:40
Maciej Bellos 1979!!! She holds up pretty well. And yes she looked so fast back then and I think she still does today. Well done!
14. October 2019 at 18:27:01
Hanno Kleinecke Wow, looking real good Thomas! You're right about the look, back in 1958 it must have made a spacecraft - like impression on spectators.

Glynn Jacobs Hi Thomas,

A most EXCELLENT job on your Mirage IV, very inspiring! I too have this kit in my stash and have a few questions about your build, if you would so indulge me;

What paint colors did you use?
Besides the second round camera on the WRONG side, what else is wrong with the Pavla CT-52? and,
How did you scratch-build (fabricate) the wing tip and rear fuselage-mounted E.C.M. "bullets" and left wing "Barracuda" pylon?

Very Impressed,

Glynn "WARDOG" Jacobs
21. July 2019 at 07:07:04
Stephan Ryll Very nice build
21. July 2019 at 10:59:04
Thomas Hopfensperger Hello Glynn,
all cameras are on the wrong side, its simply a mirrored fault, and there is much too less detail, no interior and wrong inlets and too short fuselage, everything else i made from scratch, except the Barracuda pod which came from Heller. The colors i mixed for myself because i found no real good ones...
Cheers, Tom

Yes Daniel, in Modellfan 12 will be the test of Tamiyas extra decals (they are thick, but good)
4. October 2018 at 19:48:14
Daniel Klink Ah thank you.. In the Aoshima kit they are implemented in the kit. I guess they are also on the thicker side. japanese kit producers tend to thick decals who needs a lot of softener...

Gordon Sørensen Great looking Hornet, Thomas! When I was taking engineering, we got a tour of Cold Lake in '88. The aircraft was being tested for stress on the vertical stab and a few other places. They were definately looking a lot more "used".
20. June 2019 at 14:39:52
Thomas Hopfensperger Thank you Gordon! Happy guy! She was in Robbie Shaws Superbase 18 book (Osprey 1990). 907 made there the unguided rocket tests. Was by far the cleanest of the test force.

Project: FB-18G Marineflieger
Scratchbuilt
10. March 2019 at 22:17:18 Share
Thomas Hopfensperger German news:
Since the early 1970s, the acquisition of the YF-17 has been pursued as part of the LWF program and years ago Germany seamlessly and silently transferred it to the LWB, Lightweight Bomber Project. On the 1st of April the first FB-18G celebrates roll out.
Surprise, however, is that the Marineflieger in MFG 3 are reactivated because all land bases are rededicated for residential development.
Through pioneering steam catapult technology, the new bases under the project "Flieger-Horst" under the leadership of the Ministry of Interior Horst Seehofer will occupy only fractions of former space and act as structural aid measures first stationed on the islands of Usedom, Sylt and Heligoland.
1. April 2019 at 12:05:20
Holger Kranich Now thats a cool story! You just forgot the developement of the new german carrier! ;) ;)
2. April 2019 at 07:13:06
Stephan Ryll Very nice story for 1th of april,,, ;)
2. April 2019 at 07:25:48
Neuling Rumor goes that one of the secret new bases is located in the Hohengebrachinger Forst, where the gases of the former garbage dump ground Posthof are used instead of steam to catapult the planes into the air.
2. April 2019 at 08:16:46
Thomas Hopfensperger Thank you! Yes, and the FB-18G Großhornissen will be reinforced against Lirpaloof birdstrikes and made fool-proof as well...

Landbased only until we have the new franco-german carrier "Charles de Kohl" for our new "Großhornisse" Superbug... :)
2. April 2019 at 09:03:12

8. February 2019 at 09:42:58
Thomas Hopfensperger Hi Holger,
no full bash, Academy is so good, but i used about 10 better parts of the Revell-jet because its too wrong for me to build a model of this , i used also Hasegawa parts where they are the best (Sidewinders) and i will use the rest of Revell to pimp a (early model) Hasegawa build

Thomas Hopfensperger Thank you Stephan!

Patrick Hagelstein Vielen Dank! :)

Patrick Hagelstein Ich hab mir mal was ganz anderes einfallen lassen.
