Painted the body parts, also glued the side mirrors on last night to make the painting easier and all. Already have a small problem, gonna have to sand the roof down and put a new coat on it because the paint stuck to the newspaper. Oh well, no big problem. I love this color of green on these cars, it just looks cool somehow.

Is that the Sublime green? That's a great pick!

It is Tamiya TS 22, says light green, but I would say its bright green. Light green is more like what they use on the bottom of Russian Aircraft. I think it is a good match though. I just love me a Hemi cuda, would love to have a real one, my dream car. Probably couldn't afford the gas for it though.

Lol! No doubt on the gas! I think I like the color you used because it's like the Sublime green but different.

Closest I could find to Sublime Green on a Budget

Yes it's Sublime......... sort of! The Dodge catalogue called it Sublime, the Plymouth catalogue called it Limelight.
I'm sure Testors do all the old Mopar muscle car colours?

Either way it looks gorgeous 😉

I've got to find Citron yella paint! LOL! Testors does make the sublime green which seems to be a popular color now days But I like the subtle difference Chris has, it does look good!

Those Mopar colours were awesome, my Challenger was Top Banana from factory & I wanted to paint it Panther Pink to start with but the import costs from the States was just too expensive.

Yeah, that is why I used Tamiya, Testors and model master paints are expensive to get here in Germany. Sometimes I can find em but it cost about 5 or 6 Euros for a jar of paint so I try to use Revell, Humbrol, or Tamiya sprays which I can all get locally. I am not at all impressed which Revell paints, they only have very basic colors, except for maybe the Lufthansa colors and I think their Panzerdunkelgrau is good. Thier Panzer dunkelgelb is terrible and when you spray it with a clear coat, it changes color to soemthing more like burnt sienna. Humbrol colors are fine but some of them are so old that i get here they are barely usable. I do order Model Master colors when I need something specialized, like the RAL and RLM Colors because I think Model Master does them good. Unfortunately some of their colors dont give anymore, like the Armor sand and camouflage grey,

SO the body is painted, I painted under the hood and the firewall black, then looking at pictures, it is the body color, so I thought I would just paint the green over the black. BIG mistake. The two parts where I painted the one color over the other cracked like a dry lake bed. So after about 3 hours of striping paint off, I finally got them repainted. SO now I am working on the Caddy too, and the Brummbaer trying to get the tracks on it. As well as the flaps on the Helldiver and the painting on the P 38. Maybe I start too much at a time. Need a better P 38, anyone have any ideas, the academy one has a really crappy fit.

Years ago I did the Revell kit and it was so so, I had a few issues with that kit as well.

Chris, some Mopars were painted black under the hood (inner fenders, scuttle, slam panel, firewall).
It all depended on body colour, Panther Pink often had a black under hood, it's complicated & requires a lot of research.
Sublime, for example, had body colour under hood on an E body (Challenger) but black on some B bodies (Charger) so you sort of had the right idea to start with 😉

It's all factory spec from all era and manufacture, in any way you need it brush or spray, and it's a base coat that works great with high gloss clear coats.

I did my research and every picture I could find of a Hemicuda with the Hood open had the walls and under the hood painted body color, I did not find every color but the green I did find, as well as blue, white, purple, and orange. I just did a Google search for Hemicuda images and there are more of them there.

Christopher, after researching movie cars as well as classics, you will always have small differences. On movie cars, they use so many to make a movie. Classic rides, some choose to go totally stock, some put minor differences in it to make it theirs. I know Munky and I worked on a lot of these in our younger days. I know when I build my models that at times I don't paint them exactly as they should be because of choice or going nucking futs trying to determine how they should be! LOL. With that said, I have seen only a few, in person, that had the firewall and hood painted black. The rest were body color. Munky knows his Mopars to the finest detail and has ribbed me on things I can't or haven't done. So it comes down to this, do it the best way that you like it! If it has 1 small flaw don't sweat it. My 2 cents worth, I hope it helps.

Good points Tim, at the end of the day it's your choice, do whatever makes you happy 😉
The underhood paint thing is a good example, in some ways it's never gonna be right so do whatever you like, just like the real thing!

Sometimes I have to use some artistic license because I cant always find the paint I want to use here, so I have to find the closest thing I can. Looking at the list of Tamiya paints, they have a Green spray that looks more like the Sublime Green I think called Candy Lime Green, but they didn't have it at the Hobby store here in Giessen. Unfortunately, I could have ordered it had I have looked here on this website at the Marketplace for the paint, and for 3 Euros cheaper than what I bought it at the store. Sometimes its difficult trying to build good models on a tight budget. I cant always do it like I would like to. Scalemates might actually help me with that because I can find the cheapest place on the web to buy stuff here.

Ok, so the parts that I messed up on are fixed, and I've been thinking about what I want to do in the interior, I have a couple of olive colors with grey that I think would look good inside. I think Fern Green would be good.

How do you paint your interiors Chris? Spray or brush? Acrylics or enamel?
18 August 2019, 10:06
Tim Heimer
Christopher I know what you mean, I'm on a fixed income and you see some of the work here and wish you could get the things others have to complete yours's the way you would like. I mix my paints the best I can, make the parts that I can't and improvise where I can. We are here to show what our imagination can do. We are also here to help and be helped.

Munky, I brush with Enamel. I always use enamel except for the exteriors, the Tamiya Acrylic spray is much better than the Revell Enamel Spray, they are the only ones I can get here, and they are both expensive, 8-10 Euros for 1 can. All of my military models I hand paint, except for aircraft with aluminum fuselage. The first car I did the, 66 Mustang, was with Revell Enamel spray and I was not at all satisfied with how the body turned out. The Tamiya spray colors look better, they are brighter and have a good gloss to them. Tim, I know exactly what you mean. I was thinking though, there is this aluminum or chrome foil they make for models, but Im not sure where to get it or how to put it on, and would like to use some on the caddy instead of the stickers if it doesn't cost too much. It might look better. I improvise a lot too, but sometimes i go over my budget and will buy an eduard set on occasion, or those boost parts if something is totally badly molded.

Havent made as much progress on the Hemi as on the Caddy, but got the Interior coming along now, Didn't go with the Fern Green, was much too bright, wanted the interior toned down a bit from the outside, so I went with Revell 361 which is Olive Green and I think it looks good, even though I think it looks more like a dark olive, but it may just be cause the grey is so light.

Chris, for chrome trim and small parts I use the 2mm chrome marker, Just shake it up and go, cost is about 10-13 Euros but will last a long time. The bare metal foil will cost about the same per sheet. It is delicate to work with and to some can be a challenge. On the aluminum, I cheat a lot with a silver Sharpie brand marker in certain areas but also use the Bare metal foil where I feel fit. I hope this helps.

Busy at work so haven't had much time to work on models, but I got soemthing done in the last week, interior is done, except for a bit on the roof, and the windshields. Chassis is done and as soon as I get the windshields on it can go together. After that there is not much to do. It is the stock version of the car with the exception that I will be using the modified wheels cause I like how they look.
