OK, I am looking for Model Master Armor Sand and i cant find any. I already started painting DS9 this color but dont have enough paint for it, thought I did though, It is hard to find here in Germany as it is, I really dont want to repaint because I cant find the color I want. Anyone have any ideas?
26. January at 05:29:37 Share
Patrick Hagelstein I normally order my paints through hobby-world USA. They might ship to Germany.
26. January at 08:13:28
Christopher Mullins Everyone that carries it seems to be sold out because they stopped producing that color. May have to start over with painting after all, really sucks actually. That is one color that I use quite often. My Mi 24 is painted with it, my M 51 is painted with it, I think my M3 Grant is also.

Hans Robben please provide the number, I see 6 different armor sand paints from Model master! This site claims to have all 6: https://super-hobby.nl/catal..ds&start=0&grupa_p=6

Christopher Mullins First Ill start with some pictures of the trees. I tried to get some pictures to show how the details on it looks. It is molded in five colors, White, a medium blue gray, dark gray, Clear, and Red Clear. It has water slide decals as well as stickers, Since it will be a bit hard to match the color of the plastic with paint, there will be some slight color changes. It looks like it is made for modelers of all ages and skill levels. AN inexperienced modeler can put it together as is with the stickers because it is molded in the basic colors. Of course I would never be satisfied with that. I will be changing the colors somewhat, so it will be a it darker. MM Aircraft Grey, MM Flanker Blue Grey, and Revell Dust Gray will be the main colors and it will be weathered decently. I actually wanted to use MM Camouflage Grey but it seems pretty hard to find. It is the color I used for my X wing and I was quite satisfied with it.
29. December 2018 at 10:57:29
Christopher Mullins after doing some searching on the internet and finding a lot of different painting on the cockpit, I decided to mix and match, while also using some artistic license and taking some lessons from aircraft interiors to come up with the painting of this cockpit. I also painted the intakes, to show how the Russian Flanker Blue gray looks on it, it may be a bit to dark even, but being that I plan on making the whole thing a bit darker, like aircraft grey instead of the white, dust grey instead of the grey that it is molded in, I think it will be alright, and if Im not happy, Ill just have to look around for another color that is lighter.
30. December 2018 at 11:51:40
Christopher Mullins I ordered the LED\s for the engines, but they are yellow, I will be painting the clear engine insert clear red so it looks either red or orange, depending I guess on how much paint I use. Led was only about 10 Euro so I guess thats not too bad.
6. January at 11:12:43
Konrad Limmer I'm definately in!
6. January at 11:23:20
Christopher Mullins Well, the aircraft gray is definitely not in, it is way too dark, if I cant find the camouflage gray somewhere, i might have to use Revell 371 light grey, it is a light gray color, but I really like the brawn tone of Camouflage gray better for this. The light that I ordered for it is Yellow, but I would rather the exhaust look orange or red, so I used Testors Clear Red on the nozzles where the light goes.

Stephan H. Great project. Following. I got the bandai AT-AT kit and checking out the box content made me grin quite a bit. Best of luck with this one and may the force be with you ;)
8. January at 09:10:21
Christopher Mullins i will probably be getting an AT AT as well
9. January at 16:55:40
Christopher Mullins Made quite a bit of progress on it since I last posted. Hard to take good pictures though when its always dark when I come home, so i can only take pictures to post when I have a day off. The LED unit came this week, just got to get some batteries for it. All the stripes areas and the orange circles I will be masking and painting myself instead of using the decals. My colors will be somewhat darker than what they look like on the pictures and decals, actually the Flanker Blue Gray is quite a bit darker than the color there, but I think its OK. So the 2 side wings are on, working on the bottom wing now, after that its mostly details and weathering, and I think I may be using the just frame no glass option so the inside can be better seen, haven't decided yet.
20. January at 10:07:59
Javier Martin if you are looking for color correlations I would recommend you the Vallejo brand:
https://acrylicosvallejo.com..fv-series-vallejo-colors.pdf
20. January at 12:26:24
Christopher Mullins I dont use Acrylics and I cant find Vallejo around here and it is too expensive to order, so I have to use what I can get my hands on. That is why instead of the almost white color it looks like, the base color of mine will be light gray and everything a bit darker. I am not worried about perfect matches anyways, in different pictures it looks different anyways due to the lighting or other things.

7. January at 22:06:19
M M Very nice. I will be following along. I want to try one of these bandi kits.
20. January at 15:30:10
Christopher Mullins They are easy to build, and the detail seems pretty good I think. A lot better than the old MPC and AMT kits. Never had one of the kits from Fine Molds so I cant compare to that though. They seems to be made for all ages too, a kid could easily snap it together, without any problems or paint and it comes with stickers and decals, so that makes it easier for the kiddies. I wil be getting the Bandai A wing and probably the Y wing as well. Would like an AT AT as well
24. January at 06:55:27
Christopher Mullins oh and the landing gear, I dont see any, it has just the stand. I dont even know where the landing gear is supposed to be on the B wing, did they even show it on the films? Cant remember. Think I need to watch em again soon though.

Christopher Mullins I built this in the 90s as a teen. That one didn't look that great. This one will be better. The instructions call for it to be painted gray, the studio model was brown, or well beige, but it did look quite gray or dark brown on screen. I struggled a bit deciding what color I would use. I like to try to paint things as they look on screen and not what the studio models look like but i decided using such dark colors on something like this would hide too much detail, even though it would also hide any damage that should occur with these big connection points to the tree. I probably spent about 2 hours yesterday going over the colors I have and what I think would look best. I finally decided on MM Armor Sand for the body, it is a darker beige, and I think it will turn out to look OK with that color. I just means I will have to do a bit more sanding and stuff to even out the seems, which some of the seams do not fit together well at all. ON the first part of the Docking ring I built there, was a hangover on one side that was probably a good 3 mm, and a lot of the parts are like that. This should also be the Lighted kit, but something like that I cant really afford. They cost between 250-300 Euros. This was a lighted kit that someone had taken the LED's out of and then Auctioned the rest, a normal DS9 cost about 90, I got it for 40, good deal I think.
31. December 2018 at 09:33:55
Christopher Mullins First we have pictures of the trees, for an older kit this has descent detail i think, but the connections to the tree are going to cause problems. I got quite far last night in one sitting, the whole docking ring and promenade is built, and one section of the docking ring has a base coat on it.
31. December 2018 at 09:35:16
Torsten Wendt I take a seat :)
31. December 2018 at 10:52:35
Christopher Mullins Promenade is looking good I think, but the shuttle doors I think I will repaint in a lighter gray. There are a lot of problem areas around the Docking arms though, that will take quite a bit of work to get ti right. I do wih I had the LEDS for is though, but the 350 Euros I couldn't afford.
7. January at 14:21:41
Torsten Wendt Yes, more different shades will give more life
7. January at 16:00:46
Christopher Mullins Need more paint, been concentrating on the B wing for the time being while I order some more armor sand paint, but I did get the other three Docking Arms glued together, and most of the operations center and fusion reactor built and painted.

Christopher Mullins So update, coming a long OK, but there are quite a few problem areas, like the spaces around all of the docking arms. Going to take quite a bit of filling and sanding to get it strait, and I think Ill need more paint too. The Promenade looks pretty good though, I have done the rough painting and now I have to do some better detail painting. The shuttle pads may be too dark though, may repaint them a lighter color, RAL 7001 or something like that.

Christopher Mullins I have, in passing, seen these kits from Bandai on Ebay before, I always thought they were more toys. Actually, I am quite surprised by the molded detail, it looks pretty good. I do not, however, know how accurate it is and their is very little painting detail in the instruction, but I found some pictures from the star wars exhibition so here we go, will be posting some pictures i a few days. .
