Thanks, guys. There are 2 major steps to finish: (1) tracks, (2) mud. I am having hard time with creating mud that would look decent. Did some experiments, but I do not like what I am getting... Let's hope I will figure it out. After all that's the purpose of this project... I don't really build tanks 😉

Looking great David. I am interested in your chipping technique. Looks like you used chopping fluid between the two original greens, and then again under the white? Or was there another layer?

There is a flat clear coat applied after the greens were chipped. Then hair spray and white. You don't want the water to activate the chipping fluid in between the greens when you are washing away the white layer.

I "finished" this some time ago, but I did not have time to take pictures, so here they are...

This is an awesome looking KV, and I particularly like the weathering and Winter white wash 👍

For the mud... Vallejo does a range of acrylic based mud texture products that you can just brush on and wipe away again any excess. I found it perfect for dirtying up the recesses on track links and around suspension arms etc.

James C: Thanks for the recommendation, I will look into that product - did not try that one. Sounds like the one I need...

Olivier, Neuling, Spanjaard: Thanks, gents!

Album info

I don't normally build tanks, but wanted to try it once. The camo was the main reason, I think.

This was my first Zvezda model. I don't remember there were major issues - engineering and fit were good, I don't think I used putty for filling gaps. I did not like the green plastic, but I don't usually like colored plastic (just a personal preference)

I did struggle with tracks, but that was mostly because of me being a tank noob. I could not get the rust on them right, so after some frustration, I just stopped.

I had the same problem with mud. I tried several products, several techniques, but I did not like the effect, so ended up not doing any mud. I wanted to try snow, but I ran out of steam, so I just wrapped the project up, took photos and called it a day.

And this was the inspiration for this project: Youtube Video
