Stephan Ryll Very nice build
9. March at 18:12:19
David Andrs Alec K: When I was cutting the first wire for the third time I was like - I need something better for this, because there is an awful lot of wires ;) The only weakness is how to keep the damn thing in place while you glue the turnbuckles. The tape kind of works. May be masking fluid would work much better... need to try it next time...
10. March at 00:26:40
Alec K I am assuming the turnbuckles are not actually eyelet-in-eyelet (that would be too easy...), and the ends must be cut to mate with the anchor eyelet? Hence the need to position them at appropriate angle?
10. March at 13:29:36
David Andrs They are Type A ([img1]?c=2) . It is one rigid piece. Then EZLine is threaded through the eyelet. So, yeah, you need to get the angle right. It is a tradeoff between building 30 of them vs. using a prefabricated part. Each has its own pluses and minuses.
10. March at 18:05:00
Alec K Got it - thanks for the info

David Andrs I think it just got lost in the big influx of new albums every day. I finally finished this a few days ago. Need to take some better pictures with better light.
9. March at 23:41:58
David Andrs Alec K: just different color on pic 21. I was experimenting with how to paint these in different ways. I think masking the tapes is probably easier than masking the "valleys".

10. March at 00:20:50
David Andrs Richmond: Thanks for the tip. I actually went through about 3 different setups. Each one had different level of complexity - if you will. I think the current one I am using does not take much space, I can set it up and tear down quite quickly and it produces nice results, see DFW C.V (Gretel Lo) | Album by andrsd (1:32) and Avia S-199 (LS-15): Finished | Album by andrsd (1:32) for an example.
10. March at 00:31:29
Richmond Thanks for the link - I have a WNW in my stash - just putting off construction until I get my skills up. I am sure I will be going over your old logs.
10. March at 00:33:07
David Andrs I was also hesitant to start a WNW kit first. But, frankly, they are such nice kits that you do not need any special skills to build them. At least, I do not think I have any :)

Alec K Looking great David. Looks like adapting the resin took some work :D Nice progress
18. December 2018 at 17:25:36
David Andrs Yeah the resin kit was made for the Revel kit. I was like "how much different could this be?". Quite a bit :) But I am glad I figured out how to fit it to the Trumpeter kit.I was also surprised how much I enjoyed it. May be, because I have quite strong motivation with this...
18. December 2018 at 17:30:29
Alec K I always wondered how resin parts go with kits other than the ones they were designed for (never tried it). I am glad to see you getting into resin, brass etc . Personally, I enjoy the building phase of modeling the most.
18. December 2018 at 17:46:05
David Andrs For comparison I am building another Avia S-199 from the Revell kit :) The resin parts fit much better. Not great, but better :)

I am into painting the most. But, I want to improve my building skills - mostly inspired by the work of some people here.
19. December 2018 at 13:29:08
Alec K Which S-199 will to be?
19. December 2018 at 21:33:51
David Andrs IF-01. the one from KP boxart from 70's. you remember that one, right? :)

Alec K This turned out very nice. I think the weathering looks great . I will have to try that blackbasing, although not sure how well that will translate into 1:72 scale.
7. September 2018 at 01:38:47
David Andrs Yeah, the tonal variation in the paint, paint chipping and the prop show quite nice, but the streaks on the underside are more pronounced in real life. I think I was thinking faster than I was typing :)

I think you might be able to get some nice effects with blackbasing in 1:72. The biggest challenge is to spray small, from real close (around 2 cm from the surface), low pressure, really thin paint and patience. When I get into the zone I can do the whole airplane, but it takes almost all day. So it helps when you break it into sections. Although, it might be easier in 1:72, because you do not have that much to cover :) Anyway, look up "Blackbasing 201" on youtube from Doogsmodels. It is a great series to learn about blackbasing.
7. September 2018 at 11:15:57
Patrick Hagelstein True! I totally discovered blackbasing and I build predominately 1/72. But I have to yet try it to an airplane that has such small panels as this Jug. Looks incredible by the way!
7. September 2018 at 14:16:28
Alec K Spray small and patience... hmmm, NOT my strongsuit :D It does look great, I must say

3. August 2018 at 19:27:29
Alec K Excellent build David I really like that open engine . Not sure how that decal halo effect happened. Maybe your setting solution (I am assuming you used some) reacted with the paint?
7. September 2018 at 01:34:58
David Andrs Probably, decals are always magic. There is always some surprise. If not, I get nervous. Not really :) I started to do utility clear coats. Hopefully that will eliminate some of that magic.
7. September 2018 at 10:56:36
Alec K One has to look very closely to notice the halo. What do you mean by utility clear coats?
7. September 2018 at 11:11:39
David Andrs Just spray it with clear varnish to protect the paint.
