Erik No Nice work! I love the wood.
21. February at 08:05:25
David Andrs Thanks, gents. The template I used is for 32nd scale, so it looks a bit overscaled in real life - at least to my eye. But, it doesn't show that much on the pictures...

Still I like the final outcome - a nice refreshing change :)
21. February at 11:54:14
Bart Goesaert Nice work on this one... Would love to be built an aircraft in such a manner... now finding time (inspiration is here ;) )
21. February at 15:42:05
Alec K Really great David. I really like these "not fully completed" builds. I agree, the wood grain scale is hard to discern.
21. February at 16:00:52
David Andrs @Alec K: Thanks!
@Bart: Thanks and good luck with your build!

Alec K Wow, BIG!! I have to see this
9. December 2019 at 16:46:26
David Andrs The wingspan is "only" 50 cm. B-17 in 1/48th scale has wingspan 65cm, for comparison :) But, yes, this is a BIG project, not only size-wise.

Alec K I am assuming you are adding on to your dwelling... :D. Happy Holidays
19. December 2019 at 13:32:49

JD I've never seen a kit like this before...looks like you could build the actual plane after this!
31. January at 19:09:36
Bozzer Ok, I gotta see this!
31. January at 19:10:35
David Andrs @JD: Almost. It is true there is a very high level of detail, but some is most likely missing. I am not an expert on Nieuports, but my personal guess is the engine will be missing some.

But, I build for fun, so no problem with that :)

27. December 2019 at 19:59:46
David Andrs Thanks, guys. There are 2 major steps to finish: (1) tracks, (2) mud. I am having hard time with creating mud that would look decent. Did some experiments, but I do not like what I am getting... Let's hope I will figure it out. After all that's the purpose of this project... I don't really build tanks ;)
28. December 2019 at 14:10:42
Alec K Looking great David. I am interested in your chipping technique. Looks like you used chopping fluid between the two original greens, and then again under the white? Or was there another layer?
28. December 2019 at 23:08:24
David Andrs There is a flat clear coat applied after the greens were chipped. Then hair spray and white. You don't want the water to activate the chipping fluid in between the greens when you are washing away the white layer.

11. September 2019 at 06:59:53
David Andrs I used decals for the wood effect on fuselage. But in general, I try to avoid decals as much as I can...

Alec K: I make the spraying stencils from the kit decals. I scan them, load them into inkscape, trace the lines with curves and cut them on a vinyl cutter.

Stephan Ryll Very nice build
9. March 2019 at 18:12:19
David Andrs Alec K: When I was cutting the first wire for the third time I was like - I need something better for this, because there is an awful lot of wires ;) The only weakness is how to keep the damn thing in place while you glue the turnbuckles. The tape kind of works. May be masking fluid would work much better... need to try it next time...
10. March 2019 at 00:26:40
Alec K I am assuming the turnbuckles are not actually eyelet-in-eyelet (that would be too easy...), and the ends must be cut to mate with the anchor eyelet? Hence the need to position them at appropriate angle?
10. March 2019 at 13:29:36
David Andrs They are Type A ([img1]?c=2) . It is one rigid piece. Then EZLine is threaded through the eyelet. So, yeah, you need to get the angle right. It is a tradeoff between building 30 of them vs. using a prefabricated part. Each has its own pluses and minuses.
10. March 2019 at 18:05:00
Alec K Got it - thanks for the info

David Andrs I think it just got lost in the big influx of new albums every day. I finally finished this a few days ago. Need to take some better pictures with better light.
9. March 2019 at 23:41:58
David Andrs Alec K: just different color on pic 21. I was experimenting with how to paint these in different ways. I think masking the tapes is probably easier than masking the "valleys".

Richmond "Need to take some better pictures with better light" - You could make a cheap light box Youtube Video

10. March 2019 at 00:20:50
David Andrs Richmond: Thanks for the tip. I actually went through about 3 different setups. Each one had different level of complexity - if you will. I think the current one I am using does not take much space, I can set it up and tear down quite quickly and it produces nice results, see DFW C.V (Gretel Lo) | Album by andrsd (1:32) and Avia S-199 (LS-15): Finished | Album by andrsd (1:32) for an example.
10. March 2019 at 00:31:29
Richmond Thanks for the link - I have a WNW in my stash - just putting off construction until I get my skills up. I am sure I will be going over your old logs.
10. March 2019 at 00:33:07
David Andrs I was also hesitant to start a WNW kit first. But, frankly, they are such nice kits that you do not need any special skills to build them. At least, I do not think I have any :)
