Yeah, the tonal variation in the paint, paint chipping and the prop show quite nice, but the streaks on the underside are more pronounced in real life. I think I was thinking faster than I was typing
I think you might be able to get some nice effects with blackbasing in 1:72. The biggest challenge is to spray small, from real close (around 2 cm from the surface), low pressure, really thin paint and patience. When I get into the zone I can do the whole airplane, but it takes almost all day. So it helps when you break it into sections. Although, it might be easier in 1:72, because you do not have that much to cover
Anyway, look up "Blackbasing 201" on youtube from Doogsmodels. It is a great series to learn about blackbasing.
