Death Star Trench project

Album image #1
1st sq ft of scratch built tiles complete. Unsure of colour yet. Might go lighter.

Album image #2
Album image #3
Album image #4
First few tiles on 74mmx74mm squares of foam board. This keeps it light and cheap.

Album image #5
Playing with colour options. Ultimately just a palish looking grey should give the look.

Album image #6
Tiles so far laid out to form bottom of trench. 1:144 y-wing for scale.

Album image #7
Resin mini tiles from club member Alan. Added to standard 3x3 tiles. Some painted for colour testing.

Album image #8
2 excellent contributions from club members Dave and Chris Norman. Thanks guys.

Album image #9
A few more "finished" 3x3 tiles.

Album image #10
Latest batch of 3x3 tiles finished and together 70+ i think

Album image #11
First big tile made of 16 3x3 tiles

Album image #12
2 big tiles complete

Album image #13
12" sq whiteboard. Doubled up for strength. Marked out for tiles. Black marker shows as shadow between tile gaps.

Album image #14
Scratchbuilt tiles then added. Nearly at random. Little bit of thought maybe.

Album image #15
Three completed "big" tiles.

Album image #16
Re cast Bandai tiles. Done about 40. Second batch should work out much cheaper as cost of making silicon moulds now covered.

Album image #17
The moment the super star destroyer crashes into the deathstar surface portrayed admirably by Pookster.

Album image #18
Another batch ready for tiling up.

Album image #19
6 sq ft complete. 96 mini tiles.

Album image #20
Another 3 x 1ft sq tiles done. This time primed with rattle can mid grey. A pleasing look i think.

Album image #21
Another 2 sets of 16 ready for paint.

Album image #22
Numerous contributions from keen Death Star builders from Cleveland IPMS

Album image #23
Another 2 sprayed and complete

Cool! I'll pull up a chair as well.
My 1:72 A-Wing is on its way 🙂
Not going to use the turret though... Looks too small next to it. I could donate it if you need another one😉

That would be amazing. Yes youre right. Scale wise its miles out (by magnitudes!!) but i think they will give a sense of depth if used in the background.

In the context of your project... Definitely an useful piece of background detail. As Standalone or base... Not so much imho. At least not for the 72nd scale kits. It's a nice gimmick from Bandai though.
I'll shoot you a pm when my package has arrived!
