A little pre shade to break up the vast expanse of plastic that is the bottom of this beast.

Too subtle?

Fast forward a week.

All the masks are off. The roundrels need some touching up, but I like the look of the painted on insignias/letters.

Getting close. Waiting on the resin exhaust stacks. Need to install gunsight, dorsal light, pitot tube, arial antenna, elevators, and rudder

Album image #11
close up of exhaust staining and resin exhausts, weathered with Alclad, rust, then smoke.

aaaalmost finished. Just need the elevators and rudder finished. I had to redo the original rudder as I somehow melted the new replacement part.

added some light staining to the shell ejector ports

Done and delivered. Why does this website kick my photos at all sorts of odd angles?

Oh no, You have bits falling off of it Derek! It's looking great, I have the 1:24 Hurricane to build and I've heard these older Airfix kits have a few little fit issues.

Gareth, considering my dad built it almost 40 years ago it is in surprisingly good shape. I've got it to the point that I am waiting on some seatbelts and masks (I've deconstructed it as far as it can go, replaced all of the lost or broken parts, and have painted the bottom). After that, I should be ready to start painting it up.

Nice. I bought some extra markings from Hannants. I thought it might look good with the 1:24 Bently parked next to it too. Love the fact your dad built it.

Looking good Derek. Funny I just finished a 1/24 Spit a few months ago. I did not even put up any pictures of it.

Very nicely done sir! I like the not been on the front lines too long look. A hint of weathering, but not the been flying the whole freaking war look.

Thanks, all.

Donald, I'm not a huge fan of severe weathering as are some of my peers. It's a completely subjective evaluation on my part, admittedly. There is certainly some great weathering work done, and I look upon those with amazement. Too often, though, I find that people use weathering as a way to hide flaws, not to try to give a nod to realism. That's just my two cents though. I'm becoming a bit of a curmudgeon. lol

I gave it to my dad already (it is a father's day present, but I didn't want it sitting around my house with a toddler and two dogs for any longer than it had to) and he was very touched by it. That made the whole thing worthwhile.

As an aside, how do I rotate pictures? So often they upload at these odd angles.

I dont know. I have not had that issue.

The problem with the picture may not be the site but how they were taken and the program that you use to see them in your computer. I have seen some programs that rotate the pictures based on the information from the camera. So if the camera is rotated 90 degrees, when you see the pictures in the computer, they are rotated so they look good. but the program does not change the pictures, so when you add them to the site, they are in the original condition, and therefore rotated.
you may want to try to check the pictures with some other program prior to upload.
you can test it for example, taking some pics of a model, and rotate the camera in some, then check how they look in the computer, and then upload them into a test album. i hope it helps

i think the cockpit green and in the wheel wells is to bright it should be darker

Charlie, I don't disagree. This was a refurbish not a build. Those colors were as they were (or close to it) from what was built by my dad 40 years ago.
