Incidentally, I had someone on another, larger forum try to tell me that according to "his" references this airframe did not participate in those tests. I replied that I happen to meet the Navy pilot that this exact aircraft and side number is modeled after! 😉

Album info

In 1960 the U.S. Navy acquired several F-104 Starfighters from the USAF to evaluate the then-new AAM-2 (later AIM-9B) Sidewinder missile on a high-performance airframe at the Naval Ordnance Test Station China Lake. While one Starfighter did crash and was eventually written off, the rest were returned to the Air Force.
