The Blytonian
Thanks David. Most helpful.
When you say the new tool Raiden kit, are you referring to Zoukei-Mura's or Hasegawa's? Contextually I'm presuming Hasegawa, but just to be sure as Hasegawa's 'new tool' Raiden has actually been out 13 years this year.
Very excited about it, I recently bought Hasegawa's 1/32 J1M3 kit 08882. Already decided I'm building it in the plainer 302 FG Atsugi base scheme. I have had a look at the instructions and sprues shortly after receipt of course, but had forgotten re that radio detail as I did buy several of Hasegawa's 1/32 kits during a too good to refuse opportunity pre-Christmas sale. I would have noticed it when checking it out originally, as I have built Tamiya's venerable 1/48 J1M3 kit with its of its era scant internal deck detail.
Ordinarily I build aircraft in 1/48, but find I'm enjoying the detail and presence of 1/32 more these days, and the larger scale is much friendlier to aged eyes and fumble fingers.
My 1/32 Raiden is still in the stash awaiting its turn as I'm currently finishing off their 1/32 A6M5c Model 52 bought at the same time. Not sure which will be next, but a fair bet it'll be either Hasegawa's Ki-61-1 Hei or Bf 109F-4 Trop.
Many thanks again for that info. I haunt J-Aircraft & Aviation of Japan too. WWII and pre-1941-1945 war IJN & IJA aviation is one of the SI of mine.

Very cool! The Frank is probably my favorite WWII IJA aircraft. Oh, very nice scheme too, unusual for the Ki-84. 👍

Thank you ! I used the 1995 Decal set from SuperScale International 1:48 48-0526 -
Nakajima Ki-84-II Hayate 47th Sentai Hq Flight & 520th Interceptor Regiment
This was one of my first aftermarket decal sets that I bought , I fell in love with the 47th Sentai Camouflage markings .
These were the clinching factor along with the 2 Kill Mark on the front fuselage - I also used on this , for the first time , the Landing Flaps etch set by Eduard .
That etch set plus the cockpit , and exterior - Very impressive upgrade of detail .
I also used an aftermarket 1/48 Fukuya Pitot brass tube. The Engine is by Vector
( I used this wonderful aftermarket resin engine , not the Kit engine )

Thank you -
This was a superbly detailed kit which is nevertheless a bit hung up on its BMW engine and weapons. It's designed to have everything on show via appropriate panels and an open cowling. It no doubt looks great displayed in this way as Eduard intended for the kit.
However with my model , I wanted to keep the panels closed.
It was not too problematic; I just needed to sand the interior detail off the wing root gun panels or the panels won't close properly otherwise ( test fit it yourself to see what I mean ). But the fuselage gun cowling was different; The gun tray and bulkhead needed to be eliminated. The over-wide fuselage then needed to be braced around the gun cover and carefully super glued into place. Finally, the instrument bezel had to be secured to something as the gun bulkhead was gone.
Once this ' little procedure' had been performed, I was able to proceed with the rest of the build.
