Got engines built and installed into frames. This ancient kit is showing its age on the molds, and instructions and basically everything. Certainly Not for beginners but I'm not doing a serious build and will muddle through it just fine without getting too worked up.

Front suspension mounted to chassis of the factory T and rear suspension dry fit. Then dry fit the fenders for fun. There's a ton of black on your average model T. Mine will be an interpretation of the factory "commercial green" for the body and truck bed.

Got the factory T on its wheels and fenders on. I tried to break up the blacks a little with some greens and grays but it mostly just looks dark in pictures. Some nice contrast in real life though. A note to anyone building this kit. My torque tube was not long enough to center the rear wheels under the rear wheel arches. They ended up too far forward. I just added a small piece to the rear of the transmission to push the centerline of the rear end back just a hair. Seems to have worked well enough.

Thanks for the info on how to solve problems whed rear akel
And whed the colours
Just remember Ford would give you any colour you like as long as it's black lol

No problem Jv. Seems like it could be a common issue with this kit. Isn't a complicated fix but it makes it look a lot better. I Put up a pic of the new axle position now.

Yes a bit desapointing if its out
Can up put up pics of how you fixed it
The porcshe 959 from Tamiya I think has same problem

Stock 🙂 Sweet. The model kit box doesn't expect, that there is the "regualr" kit in with all it's tuning and customizing options included.

Christian, I honestly had no idea when I bought this kit that it was actually two entire kits. I just thought the model T hot rod would be cool to build!

Jv, I added a picture of my simple modification. I found a small circular part in my stash of unused stuff (I believe it may have been an ignition coil). I shaved it down, drilled the center and then inserted it into the back of the trans where the torque tube goes. Then I inserted the torque tube into my new piece. I circled it on the picture I added. The torque tube is the gray piece on the left, the transmission is the gloss black piece to the right and the small piece between them is my mod. Easy enough and I'll touch it up with some black to blend it right in.

Also got some headway on the hot rod. Blown Lincoln 430 dropped into the chassis and suspension put into place. This car has a bit more color to it than the stock T, that's for sure.

Body mounted to the stock frame assembly and seat, peddles and parking brake lever attached. Still need to do some detail painting such as the wood bed but we're getting there.

And now we have two model Ts with bodies. On the chopped coupe I used the rear of the orange tinted glass with the clear front windshield. Simply because I though the orange glass was cool and when would I get another chance to use that. But who wants to look through orange glass as they're driving

Hahaha. Thanks guys. Tom, airbrushed flames would fit this old nostalgia hot rod perfectly. Alas, I have no airbrush. I'm firmly encamped on the rattle can side of things. Have to look through the decal graveyard and see what I can come up with.

Factory T now at 90% complete. Top down enjoying a day off work…perhaps a Sunday cruise. Detailed the wonderfully placed under seat fuel tank with a brass cap and straps. Wood bed and headlights also installed.

As for the chopped T. Flames it is. Lol. And a touch of pinstriping on the duck tail. It's Also nearing the end. Should be able to knock these the rest of the way out tomorrow.

Both of these cross the finish line. Really had a lot of fun with both of these little kits. Not much to say other than that. Some tricky fitting pieces and a ton of flash to clean off but they turn out pretty cool!

Nicely done, Kyle. They came out really great!

No chance you'll try airbrushing? It is quite a journey to get decent with it but I do love the results now. It's like its own hobby really.

Thanks Jv.

Thanks Tom! I had fun with this…I have gone back and forth with the airbrush thing quite a bit. There are a lot of benefits, to be sure. And I'd imagine it's very satisfying once you get it down. Just not sure if I want to add another hobby to my hobby. 😂 I've only considered getting one about 100 times or so, just haven't talked myself into it yet. Maybe I will down the road one day.

Totally understand. It can be a rabbit hole for sure and the results you have are great.

Didn't you use an airbrush? 😮 Can you explain your technic to achieve such a nice shiny result with brushes?
1 November 2022, 03:40
Kyle DeHart
Thank you for the compliment about my finish! I've never owned an airbrush or even touched one. Rattle cans, my friend. I've been using them since I first started model building. I use the hairy stick to do all detail painting and painting of small parts, but all the body work and big stuff I shoot with rattle cans. Nothing special at all.

So do I. I'm familiar with airbrush too but I'm preferring rattle cans. "Quick and dirty" 😄
I use my airbrush mostly with clear coat or when I have a couple of part of different kits to be painted in several colors. Mostly black flat and semi gloss, aluminum, iron. Only for the big parts like chassis and interior tube.
If I use the airbrush then not only for a handful of parts. The benefit sometime is to less on my point of view. When the preparation and cleaning takes more time than the brushing 🙂, then I take rattle cans.
The only collection I completely paint with airbrush are my silver Corvette. Just to be sure that the body color has the same color. By using rattle can it could be a small different by changing the can from one to another.

Evening gentlemen. Just to add my thoughts...
I was an avid rattle can man, and I had some great results with them, back in the day. However, for shells and bodies, large stuff, etc, I wanted an airbrush, for the numerous colours, that you couldn't get? It took me a while, to find my own techniques and get everything right, but now it's second nature. I basically love the control, and the lack of wasted paint. Yes, I still screw up, but that's because of my own stupidity, not the equipment. People talk about the cleaning up after, but I just run some cellulose thinner through all my airbrushes, and that's it. Maybe once a month, I'll strip them down, for a thorough clean, but that depends on usage? But, I definitely think that a decent airbrush, is the key. My Badger 360, was the best investment that I ever made. I also have the Badger Rage, for my detail stuff, a Neo, and a couple of cheap Chinese copies, for clear coating, etc. And definitely, I still tinker with the hairy stick, for the finer details. I hope this helps you all?

Christian, Bozzer, I appreciate the insights. I definitely see the advantages in color control, wasted paint, custom colors and all that. I'm not against an airbrush by any means. Just isn't something I'm ready to add to my arsenal yet. But I never rule it completely out for the future! I'll never give up my hairy stick though. Lol

Here lately, my TS sprays have been setting with flat areas in them. I don't know if the paint is old or what. The thing I find with an airbrush is less paint getting under the masking tape since I can control the air pressure, where as with the can, it's like blasting your model with a fire extenguisher. But I certainly understand hating the clean up of an airbrush. The cup alone takes 10 minutes, then the feed, then the pin.....and with me, I have to clean all the shit off the airbrush itself....and by then, the garage is a cloud of thinner....awful.

I've had some dud cans from Tamiya as well bossy. Had a silver one that did extremely odd things. Eventually for a decent coat down but it was quite wasteful. And I'm really not a very good modeler, I even use krylon and rustoleum cans from the big box stores every now and then if I Like a color. Always worked ok for me. Anyways, like I said, I know the benefits of the airbrush are there, I still just can't bring myself to add that to my hobby at the moment. It's a limiting factor but one I can live with so far.
