Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 WIP Pictures
The data... for the 3d printing, so we can start.
First parts for the printer.
Front suspension.
Front area completed.
Seat, mirrors and stearing wheel.
Rear wing.
Engine cover and rear suspension.
3d printing work finined.
All parts of the car.
Start of primer painting.
Glued the hole chassis to one piece.
1st colored paint layer.
New glass transparent...
Adjustment of the bottom of the seat area to glue the complete chassis to one piece.
Cant't wait for an little fitment test
Decal work...
Try to create some carbon fibre effect.
Prepared the area around the Halo, cutted the resin glass to attache the new printed transparent parts.
The exhaust system drilled out and the missing holes also made.
Rear light also printed in transparent resin.
Attaching the hump on the nose. Here, too, I have printed an additional part afterwards.
The antenna - drill the hole to countersink and glue in, a small 3d print part made of resin and an aluminum wire with a thickness of 0.3mm (the length has to be adjusted).
The work on the decals is largely complete.
Various brass pins used and the front suspension and the front wing to be better attached. And did another fitness test.
Again made another update and cut of the small wings on the front suspension from the model in order to be able to represent the Bahrain GP.
Leftover from the decal work - I finished it. 😄
The Master stripe, after a lot of tests, fitments and adjustments.
Primer work finished, some precoloring of the cockpit area.
Start with painting the silver fin.
These colors have to be enough for the small steering wheel 😄 …here too I added the carbon effect.
1st time black coating.
Carbon decals for the seat, some upholstery like the original seat in the head, back and buttocks area.
The upholstery.
Belt buckle and adjuster, own design from the 3D printer based on the original parts from OMP.
Belt buckle and adjuster painted.
Assemble the seat with the belts and additional PE parts.
Finished painting with the silver fin. Next step - clear coat.
Installed seat...
Decal work on the front wing.
Some more details on the front wing.
Carbon decails for the front suspension.
The decals arrived, so we can finally start bringing them to the model.
Silver highlights on the Petronas decals, like on the original.
Start with decals on front wing…
Next step nose area…
Decaling of the cockpit area.
AMG livery on the engine cover and fin.
Finished CF decaling of the front and rear suspension.
The tires and rims prepared and a little assembly with the finished wheel suspensions.
Finished the front wing with clear goating.
CF and sponsorship decals on rear wing.
Finished also the rear wing with clear coating.
Some more detailing on the Rims... colored wheel hub and air vales.
It's not 100% part of the project, but I thought it would fit in quite well. I once tested the 2022 18-Inch Tires similar to Lewis Hamilton with the Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 on the Imola Circuit on April 20, 2021.
I decided to remove the two cameras and install new, self-designed versions that are more detailed. So I had to saw this off and sand the area. Then prime again in preparation for the red paint. I had also prepared decals, but these could not be applied well and I decided to paint the area and only apply the black edge strip as a decal.
Airbox area after red painting.
Applying the decals for this area.
Unpainted new 3D printing cameras in real 2021 design.
Current status without suspensions and wheels / tires. The next step is to apply additional carbon decals to the chassis so that the clear coat can then be applied.
Finished wheels and rims...

No, not my design. I only scaled, adjusted and printed the parts in resin.

If we all got 3D printers that can produce this quality. Who would need to buy plastic kits any more. ? Different. !

I also love to build plastic, but sometimes it just has to be printed when it's not there yet 😄

The future ahead may be just that we have our printer at home (or some local printing service) and we buy the option to print it from lers say Tamiya, and receive instructions, decals PE, by mail.....

Impressive! This is great work.
What type of printer are you using?
Those new F1 cars looks like alien devices for my eye 😄 😉

Yes, I love my Mars and I think Saturn will be great, because I can print larger parts directly in one piece and I don't have to cut up so much anymore.

Incredible work Thomas! Once you finished it, you should send it to the Mercedes-Petronas F1 team.
I'm sure they appreciate it

Thomas, if you need any close-ups of Lewis' car, let me know. I was in his garage at the Austrian GP last weekend
