Eduard ProfiPack Fw-190A-5

Album image #1
This is the Brassin engine. It is well done and comes with a lot of PE parts.

Album image #2
I replaced the ignition cables with EZ-Line Fine and used sprue rod instead of the flat PE for the oil lines between cylinders.

Album image #3
I've been trying to build the kit as a series of sub-assemblies.

Album image #4
This will get initially weathered before it is mounted on the aircraft.

Album image #5
The underside and side of the aircraft sprayed with RLM76.

Album image #6
Finally getting back on this project. Mounting the Brassin engine and panels took a lot of fitting and aligning so I needed to think about it for a while.

Album image #7
I will hold off on adding the MGs, additional plumbing and more wiring until I get the aircraft topside painted RLM74 & 75. I didn't want too many bits and pieces hanging out there to break off and snag on things.

Album image #8
The RLM74 and 75 is painted on top and the landing gear are mounted. I use a home made template to get the correct angle on the landing gear legs.

Album image #9
The fuselage MG bay is still empty. I did start mounting some of the hold-down clamps on the fuselage and worked on the wing cannon bays. I'll need to be very carful not to bump the small parts or break them during the rest of the build. The cannon barrels are 1mm tubing.

Album image #10
The port side of the fuselage. This side will have the access panel behind the exhaust dropped.

Album image #11
I did some weathering on the underside and in the wheel wells before I mounted the mortar tubes. I also moved the tail wheel just for something different.

Album image #12
The engine panels with hold-downs mounted. The exterior still needs some highlighting in the rivet holes.

Album image #13
The interior of the engine panels with some shipping and staining. I thought it might be best to get the panels weathered before they get mounted.

Album image #14
The fuselage machine guns are from the Eduard Brassin set. The plumbing and wiring in the engine compartment and on the guns is primarily lead wire from .2mm to .4mm. I found PE representing round wire and hoses was not what I wanted.

Album image #15
The starboard side.

Album image #16
I went with a light weathering effect. It may need some additional stains on the front cowling, but I don't know if I dare working around all the engine panel closures.

The mortars took a long time to mount and line up.

Thanks for the kind comments. ,I noticed Jim J built some of the Eduard fw 190s. Anything to watch out for?

@JW - I've built several of the Eduard FW 190 kits based on the 2017 tooling — it looks like you're building an earlier kit. My understanding from reviews and build logs is that the earlier kits are a little more complex but still deliver a fine result once built. The main difference is that the new kits don't include an engine and open cowl panels. Good luck! I'll be following along.

I finally gave up on the kit's control surfaces. The rudder and ailerons have some serious sinkholes that can't be corrected without destroying the surface detail. Time to place another order with Sprue Brothers.

Beautiful details and result with this oldskool eduard kit. also when it comes to würgers a-5s are scarce to come by in scale modeling for some reason so it's always a welcome sight. 🙂
